LOGIN"This is Omari's sister," Kairo introduced his date. Short and to the point. He never wasted energy on excess words, did he.
"Oh my gosh," the woman's squeal startled me. "Callum Hayes! I am such a fan." Her voice was high-pitched, and she beamed like a hundred-watt light bulb. She turned her gaze at me, envy in it and a fake smile on her lips. "You are such a lucky female. To be Callum's girl."
"Aww, thank you," Callum grinned, his hand roaming down my back. Usually it comforted me, but right now it set me on the edge. "This might help in convincing her to move into my room at the Nightfang Keep. But truthfully, I am the lucky guy."
He leaned in again and kissed my neck. It was so wrong to remember how Kairo's lips felt on my skin while Callum kissed me, but here I was remembering that fire the ruthless man ignited while my sweet, thoughtful boyfriend worshiped me.
I swallowed hard, a bitter taste on my tongue. I wouldn't think about Kairo's lips.
Instead, I focused on the conversation. Ah, yes, moving in with Callum. He'd been hinting and asking for months now, but I kept delaying my decision. Though I knew for sure, this was neither the time nor place for a conversation about us moving together. I smiled tightly, and it probably looked fake as fuck. Unsure how to respond appropriately to either one of their comments, I just decided not to respond.
"I can't wait to have Nia in my place," Callum continued, oblivious to my tension. "To see her every morning and every night."
Kairo's eyebrow raised ever so slightly, a smirk curving his beautiful lips.
"Ohhhh, you should do it," the female gushed all over herself as she continued. "That would be such a dream."
The way she spoke, it seemed like it was her dream.
"And you and Kairo," I snarked softly in my passive-aggressive voice, ignoring the comments about me moving in with Callum. "You found yourself a winner there."
She turned her eyes to Kairo, and I swore there were stars there. "He's the best." My sarcasm was lost on her.
"Yeah, sure," I muttered. There might have been a tiny bit of bitterness mixed with that sarcasm, but she completely missed it. Good thing Zuri wasn't here because she would have picked up my sarcastic tone immediately.
Leaning closer to Callum, giving him a glimpse of her low-cut dress, she murmured to Callum, "Would it be pushy to ask for a picture with you?"
Callum was immediately in friendly warrior mode for his fans. "No, not at all. Babe, how about you join in?"
Yeah, that would be a hard pass.
"Ummm, I'll wait here. You go ahead."
Callum turned his gaze at Kairo.
"I'll pass." Of course he would. He bowed to nobody; people admired him, not the other way around.
And those two were gone, leaving me standing next to the man that made my body burn with lust. I watched those two walk away from us and suddenly wished I'd gone along for the pictures. Enduring photos would have been better than staying alone with Kairo; tension and nervous energy seeped through each pore of me.
God, this man was making me nervous. Even after all those years, he succeeded in rattling me. I was older and wiser now; nobody should impact me like that.
"How've you been, Nia?" His question startled me, and I almost spilled my drink.
"Good, thanks." I sucked at small talk. With Kairo Adeyemi, I sucked at everything. I wished we weren't in public, so I could just turn my back on him and walk away. Or flip him a middle finger and tell him to go fuck himself. "You?"
"Not too bad. You are living in the city center, huh?"
After our one-night stand where Zuri's oldest brother used me for his blood oath retribution, I avoided Kairo like a plague. The secrets I couldn't have even fathomed came out into the light and changed things forever. He granted me one thing—we wouldn't tell Zuri and Kellan what my mother had done to his family, if I kept to myself that I had slept with him. I agreed.
"Yep."
In order to avoid looking at him, my eyes traveled to Callum and his fan. She was giggling like a little schoolgirl, trying to get as many pictures out of him. She was very pretty, with her long blonde hair and her tall frame. Somehow her and Kairo fit well together. Unlike me, I thought wryly. I was barely pushing five foot five, my skin looked pale compared to his permanent tan, and my thick hair was too dark for my complexion.
"I never took you for a big city wolf."
My skin tingled with awareness, his body too close but not close enough. His gaze lazily traveled down my body, melting every inch of me into a wanton puddle. How was it possible that even after everything, my body reacted so strongly to him?
"Well, I'm not a girl anymore," I retorted. "It's fun living here."
"Do you still run in the forest?" I was surprised he remembered I liked running in the Whispering Moon Woods. I annoyed Zuri with it all the time, but when Kairo was around, I tended to listen more than talk.
"Sometimes." God, I wished Callum would just come on. I didn't want to stand here with this man and make small talk. My skin tightened with tension and that familiar tingling sensation that only happened around him. It threatened to burst into fireworks, and I suspected it wasn't the good kind.
I watched Callum and the female giggling some more, and my annoyance grew by the second.
"You look good, Nia." My skin flushed at his compliment, and I knew my cheeks blushed crimson red. His flattery flared the anger within me, and the hurt I buried deep inside.
"Don't make small talk with me, Kairo," I murmured, meeting his eyes. He was still the most handsome wolf I had ever seen, but I wouldn't forget that he considered me his enemy. I was his revenge. For something I had no control over. An Adeyemi always settles the score. "And let's not pretend we are friends."
Without a backward glance, I strode to Callum and his fan with my back stiff, painfully aware of Kairo's eyes on the back of my head. I plastered a fake smile on my face as I approached my boyfriend, letting her snap another photo. Geez, how many pictures does a person need? I wondered.
"Babe." Callum wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into his body. I couldn't help but compare my body's response to Callum's touch and Kairo's proximity. The latter didn't even have to touch me and I was putty for him. Callum's lips met mine, and although I regularly hated over-the-top displays of affection, I let him in hopes of erasing the hyperactive awareness of Kairo in the room. It didn't work.
"Ready to go home?" I murmured low against his lips.
"Yes." Callum waved behind me at Kairo and tilted his head.
I'd need another five years to recover from seeing Kairo Adeyemi tonight.
Lucien Draven POVThe past week had been completely dead inside the Scarlet Council Wing, with Lyra Ashbourne acting icy and distant. I knew it was for the best, but my vampire beast craved her scent until my chest physically ached. Selah Whitlock and I had cooled down before things even started, mostly because she still did not buy my pathetic excuse about Lyra being just a family friend.I showed up to the Crimson Throne Chamber late, which was becoming a habit, but so was walking out before the sun set. My dark eyes narrowed the second I walked into the council wing—Cassian Valecrest was standing right behind Lyra’s desk, and the two of them were laughing together like lovers, arms wrapped around each other in a warm hug.Cold rage flooded my veins, making my teeth ache to extend my fangs. When Lyra looked up and caught me staring, her bright smile instantly vanished, replaced by pure contempt."I am sorry to interrupt," I said, my voice dripping with forced formality as I tried to
With a shaky breath, I thrust two fingers back inside my wet hole, curling them upward to hit the soft, spongy wall of my g-spot. I pumped my hand fast and hard, my hips bucking off the fur cushions until a fierce, shattering orgasm ripped through my lower belly, forcing me to bite my forearm to stifle a scream.I could not stop there. My body was starving for his raw heat. I kept stroking, flicking my sensitive clit with my thumb while pretending it was Lucien's rough, dark hands pinning my wrists above my head. I came a second time, my whole body shaking as my core drenched my thighs.Desperate to cool my burning skin, I pulled on my tiny scarlet string bikini, hoping the bold red silk would make Lucien's dark eyes turn black with instinct if he caught me. I walked out into the cool night air and slid into the thermal pool, letting the enchanted waters submerge my pale hair. I floated on my back for nearly an hour, watching the dark sky until the sudden sound of a heavy carriage doo
Lyra Ashbourne POVI felt completely sick over the whole Cassian Valecrest situation, knowing Lucien Draven was only lashing out because his vampire beast was furious. If the vampire lord truly wanted nothing to do with me, why would he promise that Selah Whitlock was just a coworker, and why did he keep giving in to our filthy heat? He would not. Lucien never touched what he did not crave, a brutal fact I had learned about the Lord of the Draven Vampire House long ago. That precise ruthlessness was what made every time he claimed me against his mahogany desk feel so addicting. He had telepathically linked me earlier in the day, apologizing for his savage rough handling—a rare moment of vulnerability from a High Lord that had made my wolf whimper in gratitude. He mentioned he had to fly to the Black Hollow City council chambers on pack business, but promised he would link me the moment his carriage returned to the keep. I made him swear on his vampire blood oath, and he insisted it mi
Lucien Draven POVI pushed Lyra Ashbourne back down onto her knees, and her blue eyes flared with spite as she took my thick cock into her mouth. Her wet lips kissed the broad head of my shaft, her tongue snaking out to lick my slit before she swallowed me deep. I rolled my head back against the leather of my throne, my fangs extending as a low growl tore through my throat. She had a mouth made for sin, and it looked incredible stretched wide around my length.I rocked my hips into her mouth while she strained against the silk bindings tying her wrists behind her back. "Just the mouth this time, wolf. No hands allowed."Lyra leaned into me, bobbing her head and working my shaft fast until she pulled back, rubbing her cheek against my pulsing tip. Then she took me deep again, shoving her face down until the rim of my head popped past her throat with a thick, wet gag.I clamped my dark hand in her blonde hair, pinning her head tight against my thighs as I eased even deeper into her thro
"I told you where we went," I gasped, my core throbbing with a sudden, violent wave of heat as his scent flooded my senses. "That is the only place we went, Lucien.""Did his hands touch your skin?""No," I bared my teeth in a small wolfish show of defiance. "But what if they did?"Lucien’s dark face twisted with pure possessive rage. In one lightning-fast motion, he spun me around, slammed me face-down onto the cold mahogany desk, and flipped his heavy throne back. He dropped into the seat, yanked me over his powerful thighs, and brought his heavy palm down across my rear with a deafening smack.A sharp scream tore from my throat, the sting instantly melting into a wet, heavy ache right between my legs."You have grown entirely too bold lately, little wolf," Lucien growled into the nape of my neck, his hand striking my ass a second time, harder. "You think because you carry Epsilon blood that I will not discipline you?""You are not my Alpha!" I squirmed against his heavy weight, my
Lyra Ashbourne POVI had tried everything under the sun to trap Lucien Draven’s attention inside the Bloodmoon Dominion headquarters, stopping just short of invading his private Shadowfang Fortress again. With his vampire daughter Kaia away from the manor, I knew barging into his private domain would only make his beast snap, and I could not risk driving him completely out of reach. The Scarlet Council Wing was neutral ground, so I spent every shift spinning my wolf charms around him whenever he was within arm's length.Cassian Valecrest was proving to be a useful tool in my game, even if his bloodline did not realize he was walking straight into a fire by flirting with an Epsilon wolf right beneath the vampire lord’s nose.Cassian glided into the wing fifteen minutes before midday, his red eyes burning with easy amusement. I reached for the blood-glass communicator to alert Lucien that his council ally had arrived, but Cassian raised a heavy hand to cut me off. "Do not bother, little
"Put down the cup, Nia," Kairo said. His deep voice vibrated straight through my bones. My whole body jumped, and my heart went fast, hitting hard against my ribs. I turned around quick, my bare legs shaking in my short pink dress.Kairo Adeyemi stood right there in the middle of the crowded party.
"You look beautiful, Nia," Callum said. His eyes burned as his hands wrapped around my waist. I wore a sleeveless, V-neck red dress that fell down my body, softly hugging my curves. It revealed more skin than I was used to, but it fit this type of elite gathering hall. My hair was up in a fashionab
I opened my eyes and saw Kairo watching me. He was sitting at my small desk, his huge body looking way too big for the wooden chair. He had his pants on, but his bare chest was on full display. I could not believe last night. I had liked him since my first year at Moonridge Academy, and I never tho
"Get off the bed, Nia," Kairo growled. He pulled up his dark pants and zipped them fast, but then he froze. I looked down to see what made him stop. There was bright red blood on his skin.I bit my lip hard, my face burning super hot with embarrassment. I looked up at his face. His eyes were wide,
