Before Henry could get any closer, Zara panicked. She slapped him hard and shouted, “Help!”

The noise was loud enough that Margret and Ann came running, only to freeze in shock at the scene in Zara’s room. Henry stood there, looking startled, while Zara’s nightdress added to the confusion.

“Henry, honey!” Ann cried, grabbing his hands. “This woman is evil! She tried to ”

Zara froze, her mind racing. “That’s not true! He”

But Henry quickly jumped in with a rehearsed story. “I only came to ask for some water,” he said smoothly, “because you said she runs everything here. I didn’t want to disturb you since you were sleeping. When I reached her, she grabbed me, and I had no choice but to defend myself. She tried to make it look like I was the aggressor.”

Zara’s heart pounded. Before she could respond, Ann slapped her across the face. “How dare you try this with my man!”

Just as Henry moved to retaliate again, a strong hand gripped his wrist. Everyone turned in shock.

Dante’s eyes blazed. “That’s enough,” he growled, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife.

“Ann, my wife didn’t do such a thing,” Dante said firmly.

Everyone froze. Zara’s heart skipped a beat. Was he really siding with her?

Dante turned to Henry, his eyes sharp and cold. “I know you’re lying. But it’s late, and I don’t feel like being a bad man and throwing you out bleeding. It’s better for you to leave my house right now.”

Zara couldn’t believe it. Her husband defending her?

Henry snapped angrily but had no choice. He stormed out, with Ann glaring at Zara before following him. Margret simply walked away, stunned and silent.

Zara stayed frozen, staring at Dante. Is this the same man who burned my documents and pushed me earlier? Why is he siding with me now?

“Zara… are you okay? Did he hurt you?” Dante asked gently.

“No,” she whispered, still in shock, unsure what to make of his change in behavior. What is he planning?

Before he left, Dante added softly, “I’m sorry I pushed you. And about the documents… we can get new ones.”

He walked away, leaving Zara standing there, stunned. She had never heard him speak to her like that gentle, concerned, almost… kind.

A strange mix of relief and fear settled over her. Is Dante finally coming around?

“Henry, stop!” Ann called, grabbing his arm. “Don’t go, it’s late.”

“But your family thinks I’m a pervert,” he protested.

“I don’t think so,” Ann said softly, her hand still on his arm. “I believe you. Please… don’t go.”

Henry hesitated for a moment, then shook his head and left. Ann’s face darkened with anger. “You’re going to pay for this, you woman,” she muttered under her breath.

Meanwhile, Dante knocked lightly on his mother’s room.

She clapped her hands like a proud general. “Genius, my son! Bravissimo! You made her think you care about her, so she’ll fall right into our trap.”

Dante smiled, his expression cold and calculating. “Yes, Mother. We need to get her out of our way. And about Ann’s boyfriend I don’t think she could be that shameless.”

They both nodded, their hatred for Zara clear, though even they could admit it was obvious she hadn’t done anything wrong.

Later, Zara fell asleep with a faint smile, feeling a rare sense of relief. If Dante was truly on her side now, she thought, maybe just maybe things could start to get better.

Early the next morning, Zara went to check on Lilly and was surprised to find Dante happily playing with her daughter.

Her stomach tightened. What is he planning? she wondered.

“Mommy, come here!” Lilly called out. “Daddy’s been here since…”

Dante looked up and smiled. “Oh, good morning,” he said warmly.

Zara replied cautiously, her voice slow.

“I might not be able to go with you to the park,” Dante continued, “I’ve got work. But I’ve prepared a car for you to take her around and here are the tickets. Everything’s already paid for .”

Zara’s eyes widened. She hadn’t sat in his cars for ages.

Lilly pouted. “I thought we’d go with you?”

“No, honey,” Dante said smoothly, “I got busy. But you’re going to have lots and lots of fun.”

Zara couldn’t help but smile faintly at his words.

He rose from the bed, glanced at Zara, and added, “Okay, safe trip,” before turning to leave.

Zara crouched down and said gently, “Okay, little queen, let’s get you ready.” She helped Lilly dress, and soon they were done.

Happily, Zara led her daughter to the car, already fueled and ready. She helped Lilly into the front seat and fastened her seatbelt.

From the doorway, Dante watched them enter the car, a strange, unreadable smile on his face.

Dante turned to his mother, a satisfied glint in his eyes. “I think it’s done now.”

She raised her glass, and they toasted in quiet triumph.

A slow, wicked smile spread across her face. “Well done, my son,” she said, her voice dripping with malice.

Dante mirrored her expression, the corners of his mouth curling into a subtle, cold smile. Inside, both were pleased with the trap they had set everything moving exactly as they had planned.

179“Okay, enough of the sad stories,” Lilly said, pressing her hand flat against his chest and pushing him back half a step. “I came here to study, remember? Not to relive trauma.”Zane bent slightly to her level, holding her arms gently in his hands, his expression softer than the moment before. “You’re stronger than you think you are. I just want you to know that.” He paused. “And I’m genuinely glad you survived that night. You’re amazing, Mauli. I love your confidence — the fact that you can stand here and talk about it at all says something about you.”“It wasn’t my fault,” she said quietly, her voice losing some of its usual brightness. “He was just—” She stopped, swallowed. “He was a bad man. That’s all it was.”“And nothing like that will ever happen to you again.” His voice carried a weight underneath the gentleness, something protective and absolute. “Not while I’m around to make sure of it.”She nodded, pouting slightly despite the seriousness sitting in his tone, the two e

  • SAVED BY MY BROTHERS    Chapter 175

Lilly’s hands trembled as she clutched the edge of Zane’s desk, the worn wood cool beneath her fingertips. The dorm room felt smaller suddenly, the late afternoon light slanting through the single window casting long shadows across the scattered textbooks. She had come here for tutoring—nothing more. Yet the words had spilled out like blood from an old wound she had sworn never to reopen.Zane sat frozen on the edge of his bed, his usual easy confidence shattered. His dark eyes, which had teased her moments ago with that infuriating nickname, now held only raw horror. “Mauli…” he whispered, the name soft, almost reverent. He had started calling her that weeks ago, a playful twist on her full name that somehow felt intimate. Now it sounded like a plea. She shook her head, tears carving hot trails down her cheeks. “I didn’t deserve that, did I? I was just… there. Doing my duty as school captain. And he—” Her voice cracked. The memory surged again, unbidden.FlashbackThe high school aud

She was late again. It had become something of a fixture in her schedule — not deliberately, never deliberately, but consistently enough that she had started to wonder if some part of her simply enjoyed the small drama of arriving slightly breathless and scanning a room for a remaining seat. Today the music room was already half full when she slipped through the door, and she paused in the doorway, eyes moving across the rows.A hand went up near the front.Ethan. Waving, not subtly, with the particular confidence of someone who has never once worried about being noticed for the wrong reasons. He pointed at the empty seat beside him.Lilly crossed the room and slid into it as quietly as she could manage, given that half the room had already watched her walk the entire length of it.“You saved me a seat?” she asked, settling her bag at her feet.“I figured if you came in late again you’d end up stuck at the back with the people who don’t actually want to be here.” He smiled. “Also — so

  • SAVED BY MY BROTHERS    Chapter 173

Lilly stared at Hannah in disbelief.“Be serious, Hannah. Is this really the reason you told me you weren’t coming back to the dorm?” she asked. “What made you think that was a good idea? He’s a player. A typical player.”“Player or not,” continued quietly.“But what about your boyfriend?” Lilly continued looking angry . “Think about him. You cheated on him, Hannah. You cheated on Travis. How could you , I thought you loved him so much ?”Hannah sat down on her bed and sighed heavily.“Look, Lilly. I know what you think of me right now, but I had my reasons.”“Exactly!” Lilly exclaimed. “Those are the reasons I want to know. What could possibly make you cheat on Travis with anyone else… and of all people, Blade? Jesus Christ, Blade?”FlashbackHannah and Travis had started dating during their first year. At first, everything had been perfect. Travis was attentive, caring, and always by her side. Then things began to change. He stopped making time for her. Whenever they were together,

  • SAVED BY MY BROTHERS    Chapter 171

Lilly stepped out of the gate the next morning, already running through her plans for the day, and walked directly into someone she had no interest in seeing.Rue.She froze.Of course she lives near here, Lilly thought.Rue’s expression shifted from surprise into something far more satisfied. “Look who I found.” She tilted her head. “Done sleeping with the same man for money?”“What makes you think you can speak to me like that?” Lilly said, her voice steady but with an edge under it. “With that much confidence?”“Because you’re walking out of a house that isn’t yours.”“What makes you think this house isn’t mine? Or that it belongs to a man?” Lilly’s eyes narrowed. “Who do you think it belongs to?”“It belongs to her mother,” Maya said, appearing in the doorway behind Lilly, “who happens to love her very much.”Lilly hadn’t expected her to step in — hadn’t expected, again, that easy claim of mother — but there it was, delivered with complete composure.Maya looked at Rue steadily. “

  • SAVED BY MY BROTHERS    Chapter 70

Lilly sat on the edge of her bed feeling the particular weight of having said something she couldn’t unsay. She was angry — genuinely, fully angry — and underneath the anger something quieter sat waiting, a small voice that suggested she had gone too far, that photograph had been a cruel word to use against a woman who had carried photographs of her in a hospital wallet for over a year. But the anger was louder right now and she let it stay louder because dealing with the other feeling felt like too much. Her phone rang.Maya.She answered.“What’s wrong, baby?” Maya’s voice came through soft and immediate, attuned to something in Lilly’s silence before she’d even spoken. “You sound exhausted.”“I had a fight with Mum.” Lilly pulled her knees up. “She saw the picture of us. She didn’t take it well.”A pause — careful, measured. “I knew it. I knew this would happen.” Maya’s voice cracked slightly. “I’m so sorry, baby. You shouldn’t have to go through any of this because of me.”“It’s n
