I slowly dropped my hands, slow and awkward, earning laughter and looks from the others. He looked at me exactly the way he did yesterday. Not angry. Not shocked. Just… blank. Like he has not seen someone familiar. “The nerd is shocked he has seen someone breathtaking.“ I heard someone say and laughter rippled again. “Nerd” was what they mostly called me in college. I watched the lecturer call attendance, he wore a pair of glasses and I could still recognize him. “I'm Enzo Grayson.“ He finally said, adjusting his glasses. His voice was low, rough, and steady. “Professor Grayson.“ He added. I didn't get to hear his voice last night. “Oh my God!“ Avery mouthed as she tapped my arm. “He's so hot and he has an attractive voice.“ She whispered to me. I swallowed hard. Attractive voice? Maybe. But if she had seen him wielding a knife to another man’s throat last night, she’d never be saying that. We left for the lawn after ending classes for the day. “Argh! I’m so tired,” she groaned, collapsing onto the grass. “Why can’t we get at least one weekday off?” “I also wish.” I said, sitting beside her. “Why's Mira happily expecting you to come over today?. I asked. “Oh.“ Her face brightened. “She told me she has a big story to share about something that happened in school. I can't wait to hear from her.“ She giggled. Avery stayed with Mira whenever I worked late regardless of the shabby place we stayed unlike hers. Avery is almost like an older sister to Mira though both of them bicker playfully between themselves. I chuckled as I thought of Mira's words this morning. “Mira thinks you like me.“ I said and we both burst into laughter. Avery’s laughter burst so loud than mine before turning to me. “Are you serious?” “Well, we hang out all the time. It’s not her fault she thinks that way. But just so you know, if you ever get a girlfriend and don’t tell me, our friendship is over.“ She warned. “You too,” I shot back, smirking. “Of course, when I get a man like Professor Grayson to be mine, you'll be the first to know.“ She smiled to herself as she clasped her hands together. I was so sure she was imagining a fake scenario with that professor. “What if Professor Grayson is not who you think he is?“ I asked, more like spill the question, before I could get myself. She raised a brow. “What’s that supposed to mean? Wait, speak of the devil.” We both watched as he passed by, coffee in hand, dressed in a fitted blazer and tailored pants. Every outfit screamed expensive. The girls stared. A couple of guys looked too and he didn’t acknowledge a single one. Avery sighed dreamily as Grayson walked out of sight. “You were saying?” I turned my book open on my lap. “Nothing. Forget it. Let’s study.” “Study?“ She groaned like I’d asked her to lift a truck. ∆∆ ~ FIVE STAR CLUB AND BAR ~ At nightfall, I watched as police moved in and out the club, asking people questions before each customer entered. My stomach sank. I managed to get in and quickly changed to my work outfit and flagged down a coworker. “What’s going on?” I asked. “You don’t know?” His voice trembled. “They found a dead body in Room 19.” My blood froze. Room 19. The same room I served last night. The same room where Professor Grayson held that knife. I nodded nervously as my chest tightened. My hands sweated under the thin gloves. I began to panic as I thought about it. Could Professor Grayson be the killer? Not long after, I overheard an officer leaving my boss’s office. “That will be all. Thank you for your time. We’ll continue interrogations outside.” Panic clawed through me. What if they questioned me? What if they found out I’d been in that room? Many questions ran through my mind as I stood on a spot nervously. A few minutes later, Mr. Kyle, the owner, gathered all the workers. His face was cold. “I’m sure you’ve heard. A man died here last night,” he said. “This place will be investigated, and some of you will be interrogated. But listen to me clearly, whether you saw something or not, you don’t speak a word to the cops. Do I make myself clear?” He left before we could answer. I stood frozen. I’d seen everything. And now, Room 19 was linked to murder. The truth was clawing at my throat. I needed to tell Mr Kyle what I had seen last night. I hesitated, then forced myself toward his office. If anyone needed to know, it was him. “Nick,” Mr. Kyle said when I was given the permit to enter, his bodyguard looming at the door. “What brings you here?” “I… I thought you should know,” I stammered. I panicked so hard I thought I’d faint. “Last night, I delivered drinks to Room 19. I walked in on something… unsettling.” His gaze sharpened. “Go on.” I told him everything, how I saw professor Grayson holding a knife to another's throat, how the attacker was my Italian professor, and how I fled. My voice shook the whole time. “I want to remain anonymous,” I quickly added. “If this goes to the police, I don’t want my name tied to it.“ I added and leveled down my head. Mr. Kyle leaned back in his chair and studied me for a while. “Then you’ll have to keep this information anonymous to yourself as well.” I looked up and blinked. “What?” “You heard me, Nick. Forget it ever happened.” He turned back to the files on his desk as if I hadn’t spoken at all. My throat dried. Somehow, he already knew about this. I was escorted outside as my heart was hammering, my head filled with questions. I returned back to my station as I tried to follow my daily routine across the counter. But when the door opened again, my blood turned to ice. It was him. Enzo Grayson walked into the bar with calmness and without glasses this time, his eyes were colder this time. He chose a corner table, sat down, and signaled for a drink. Minutes later, Mr. Kyle joined him. I froze behind the counter as I watched them talk. But then it happened, Grayson’s eyes lifted, meeting mine across the room. That stare again. I swallowed hard, forced my gaze down, and prayed my trembling hands wouldn’t give me away.LORENZO GRAYSON\ VADIM KERZHAKOV ©Nick held my coat as I led him out of the room. I gently took his injured hand in mine as we walked downstairs.“What happened up there? Is he okay?” Kyle asked as he walked over to us.“Yes, sir. I'm fine,” Nick replied, quickly pulling his hand away from mine. He winced the moment he did.“How did you hurt your hand?” Kyle asked, noticing the injury.I sighed and took his hand into mine again.“I need a first aid kit,” I said to Kyle.Kyle looked at me for a moment before giving a small nod.We followed him to his office, where he placed the first aid kit on the table.“I've got some business to take care of in the club. I'll check on you later,” Kyle said.I nodded, and he left the room.“I need to check if there are any glass shards in them,” I told Nick.He stayed quiet and just stared at me.I opened the first aid kit and took out the cotton wool and tweezers before carefully removing the pieces of glass. He winced and bit his lip as I gently r
LORENZO GRAYSON\ VADIM KERZHAKOV ©I sat in the lounge of my house, quietly sipping from a glass of whiskey. The house was empty. It was just like the way I lived before Vanya came back from Russia. The silence surrounded me, and my mind couldn't help but drift back to the time I was sick.I still couldn't believe Kyle brought Nick to my house to take care of me.I sighed.I found myself thinking about the kid again. When did things between us become this complicated? Before I could think further, I heard the door open. The sound of heels echoed through the room.“Drinking here all by yourself?” Vanya asked as she walked toward me.“There are so many ways to avoid seeing Nick at Kyle's, Vadim,” she said and took a seat on the bar stool.“When exactly are you leaving?” I asked with a slight grunt.“This again?” she asked, taking a sip straight from the bottle of whiskey I had placed on the table.“I’m here as Antonio’s right-hand person…” she started, but she didn’t get to finish befor
LORENZO GRAYSON\ VADIM KERZHAKOV ©Nick held my shirt tighter, like he wasn't ready to let me go.And maybe that was the problem.Yes. I was making a mistake. And that mistake involved Nick.I was risking him again. I had put my own feelings before his safety.I slowly pulled away from the kiss and looked at his face. What the fuck was I doing? This wasn't right.A professor getting involved with his student wasn't something that should happen. It was something no one could know about, especially not my father.I was putting Nick at risk. He doesn't even know who I truly was.And if one day he found out my real identity, what would happen? What if I lost him?“Enzo.”He reached out to hold me, but I quickly moved away.“No... no, we can't… we can't do this,” I said.I didn't know what I was doing. Why on earth was I kissing him?I let out a breath and ran my hands through my hair.I was so stupid.I escaped from my father in Russia after he released me. I knew he would make me go thr
LORENZO GRAYSON\ VADIM KERZHAKOV ©I should have known better. Things shouldn't have gone that far with him. He was my student, a very young student. He was off limits. What was I doing? How could I risk him by putting my own desires first before his safety? He was young, but whenever we were together, all that didn't matter.Just because I cared about him didn't mean I should put his life in danger because of my feelings. How was I supposed to protect him?Nick didn't even have anyone. He was the one protecting his little sister. How was I supposed to protect him when Antonio finally came after me?He would hurt the people I cared about first, and that included Nick.I really needed to stay away from him.I needed to keep my distance for his own safety.Nick Walker.I wondered how he walked into my life and how I ended up letting myself get so close to him. Now, he was someone I couldn't ignore.I just needed to pull myself together and fix whatever was going on between us.I palmed
NICK WALKER ©For the entire day at school after I broke down, Avery didn't bring up the matter.Or maybe she just didn't want to talk about it yet.I felt embarrassed after everything happened. It had been a long time since something like that happened. The last time was when I searched for my mum after she left Mira with me and left.“Let's go out this weekend,” Avery said, pulling me out of my thoughts.I turned to her.“Go out?” I asked and she nodded.“Yeah. Mira, you, and I,” she said as she opened the door to the house.“Well… the semester exams are coming, and we need to prepare for them,” I reminded her.She groaned.“Boring. That's exactly why people call you a nerd,” she said before walking inside. We met Mira working on her assignments when we entered.“Mira, what do you think about going out this weekend?” Avery asked as she sat beside her on the floorboard.“Going out?” she asked, looking up at me.“With Nick too?” she added and Avery nodded.I dropped my bag on the couc
NICK WALKER ©I was that nineteen-year-old boy who didn't have his life figured out like everyone else seemed to.It wasn't an easy life, but I had no choice but to pull myself together. From the moment my mother left, I planned the path I wanted to follow.Stay by Mira's side until the very end.Work until I had everything settled for her.And earn a scholarship to college to avoid college bills.Nothing about me mattered as long as I had everything figured out for Mira. But why did I suddenly want something for myself for the first time? There was only one thing I wanted to get so bad.And it was the man standing right in front of me.I couldn't understand why, but I knew one thing for sure.I didn't want to stay away from him.I wanted those moments between us to continue.Lorenzo Grayson.I didn't truly know what I wanted from life, but somehow, I knew I wanted him to be part of mine. Was that wrong?“Then get on your knees,Nick,” Enzo said, holding my gaze as my heart pounded so
NICK WALKER ©Whatever happened yesterday was never going to happen again. It was already in the past, and last night ended whatever I had with him.“Are you okay? You don’t look fine,” Mira said as I quietly combed her hair.“I’m fine,” I said with a forced smile.“Well, you don’t look like you're
NICK WALKER ©The last two days had felt strange. After what I saw in Enzo’s office, I had not seen him again. Only the female professor. And Avery? She had been acting strange too. For the past two days, she had been quieter than usual, and for some reason, it disturbed me.I kept waiting for her
NICK WALKER ©“Tell me you were not about to ask him what he said to me that day,” I asked Avery as we walked into the IT building.“No,” she whispered. “I just wanted to know where he’s from. If he speaks that language again, it might help you figure out whatever he's going to say.“We both looked
NICK WALKER © I stared at the interactive whiteboard, but my mind was somewhere else.I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened earlier. No matter how hard I tried, it stayed in my head.I did not even have the boldness to ask Enzo why he did it. I felt too embarrassed to bring it up.I too
