BOYCE

I watched her come into the room, shoulders braced, lips pursed up tight like she was facing a storm. My storm. I leaned up against the window, coat open, hands jammed into my pockets like I didn't have a care in the world.

"Close the door," I whispered.

She hesitated, glanced over her shoulder at the voices in the living room, then listened. The closing of the door was one I never did tire of—privacy. Control.

I let the silence drag out until she fidgeted, crossing her arms.

JASSONThe night had mostly passed after the slap which rang across the ballroom, but I couldn't help feeling that something was off. I needed air. I needed answers. That was when Jared saw me.He wasn't like the others skirting the borders of rumor. He didn't appear to be here to pick at scabs or surf the tide of scandal. He just approached, cool, steady, as if he'd been waiting for me."You okay, Jasson?" he asked, his voice even.I laughed out, low and without humor. "Define okay."He cocked his head, regarding me. "Come. Let's speak somewhere less noisy."I followed him to a side hallway where the music receded to a muted hum. He rested against the wall, arms folded across his chest, and for the first time that night I felt like somebody wasn't hovering nearby waiting to judge me."You boys carry a great deal," Jared said. "A great deal more than the majority of your age should. And I think you have a right to know. why things are the way they are."I furrowed my brow. "What are y

JADENThe thing about these charity events? They’re all noise and lights until someone cuts through it, and tonight that someone wasn’t Boyce with his fake smile, or my mother with her perfect poise—it was Steel. He’d been lurking on the edges all night, drinking like the whiskey owed him rent, watching her every move like she was oxygen he couldn’t get enough of. I’d felt the tension rolling off him even before he moved, before he shoved his glass into someone’s hand and started toward her and I didn’t even think. I just stepped in.“Not tonight,” I said, blocking his path.Steel narrowed his eyes at me, the stench of liquor strong enough to sting. “Move, kid.”“No.” My voice was even. Firm. The kind that made Jasson glance at me, smirking like he was waiting for a fight to break out.Steel leaned in close, his height doing nothing to rattle me. “She’s not yours to guard.”“She’s not yours to destroy either,” I shot back. For a moment it looked like he’d swing. His jaw worked, his ha

  • STEEL'S CURVY SIN & SECRETS   CHAPTER 57: UNEXPECTED KISS

BOYCE The thing about charity events is—they’re mine. Not the kind of “mine” where I actually care about the starving kids or the dying forests or the clean water wells that are supposedly being funded by tonight’s bottomless champagne and overpriced silent auction. No. I mean mine because every flashbulb, every headline, every spotlight—it comes with my name attached. Boyce Philanthropist. Family Man. Devoted Husband. And there she is at my side. The jewel in my crown. Sinclair. My wife. My perfect wife. Three years and not a crack in the mask. She still lets me drape an arm around her waist, still tilts her head just so when photographers call for the couple shot, still smiles that serene smile that makes the world believe she’s happy to be mine. She tolerates it. She tolerates me. These three years after almost dying, I have grown apart from some things, part of which is my grandfather's strict will putting me on chokehold as I am very grateful to her to sticking via

JADENThe first thing I remembered when I woke up was warmth. The second was pressure. Melissa was spread out across my chest like a starfish, her leg thrown over my belly, her hair disheveled across my throat. And the third? The unmistakable throb of being hard once more, because apparently my dick didn't get the concept of rest.I opened a single eye. Jasson was on his stomach on the other side of the bed, snoring like he'd just finished a marathon session of sucking half the air out of this motel room. Melissa shifted, mumbling into my chest, and I knew she was trying to get away.Oh, no.She thought she was going to get up, wash off, and just walk out like she hadn't begged us to corrupt her all night? No way."Where the devil do you think you're going?" I snarled, my throat hoarse with sleep. She froze mid-exit from the bed, hair tousled, lips puffy. "Jaden, I— I was just gonna—"Nope. I yanked her wrist and pulled her back down. She landed on my chest with a squeal, glaring at m

MELISSAThe bass thrummed straight through my chest like it wanted to disrobe me.Or perhaps that was just the tequila.I was somewhere else. Not drunk—somewhere else. Spinning, laughing, hips pressed against whoever was behind me on the dancefloor. It did not matter. My head felt light, my throat was burning, and my body was one huge bruise. Every beat is a throb between my legs."Mmm, fuck, I need—" I muttered under my breath, tossing my hair away from my face as I leaned forward at the waist, grinding down. A pair of sweaty hands tried to wrap around me, but I batted them away. "Not you, asshole."That was when a hand encircled my wrist. Hard. Cold. Familiar."Melissa."My belly bounced on the ground even before I managed to turn. Jaden. A tall, crisp suit jacket flung open halfway, his face resembling chocolate with a disappointed sigh. His eyes tugged over me like a magnet."Ohhh, great," I slurred, smiling. "Babysitter arrived."His jaw was clenched. "You're drunk."No shit. I s

KNOXCatalina walked into the house like she'd left her soul on the porch. Shoulders cinched up, eyes somewhere else entirely, her bag falling down her arm like it weighed a ton. I'd seen her like that before—when she was keeping something from me or chewing herself up in worry, when she didn't want anyone near enough so she could bear the burden alone but I wasn't "anyone.".I stood braced against the doorframe of the living room, arms crossed, and observed her as she kicked off her shoes as if they were combat boots."Long day?" I remarked. My tone is half-hearted, half-insistent.She looked up at me, produced a small, forced smile which didn't extend to her eyes."You could say that,"I stepped off the frame, moved towards her cautiously. "You're not fooling me, Cat. Something's eating away at you."Her lips opened and closed. She shrugged, pushing me around onto the couch. "It's nothing. Just tired."I held onto her wrist lightly, not tight enough to catch her, but tight enough to
