LOGINRyker’s POV
Eight years. We spent eight long years away in the Highlands. We trained our bodies and our minds to take back the Silverfang Pack. I expected many things when I came home. I expected a big party. I expected the Beta to give me reports. I even expected some enemies to fight us.
I did not expect a girl in a leather jacket to kick open my doors and shoot me.
I felt the silver bullet hit my shoulder. It was a sharp, hot sting. It ruined my expensive suit. I did not fall. I did not even move. I just stood in the shadows and watched the smoke come out of her gun. My blood began to boil. My inner wolf was angry. He wanted to kill whoever was brave enough to attack a King in his own house.
"You should not have come back, Anna," Ronald said next to me.
The girl, Anna, made an angry sound. She looked like a wild animal. Her red lips were pulled back, showing her teeth. Her eyes were full of rage. I stepped into the light. I was ready to kill her with my bare hands. I wanted to see her look afraid before I ended her.
Then, something strange happened.
The air in the room became very heavy. It felt like a bolt of lightning hit my heart. It made my blood feel like fire. My wolf, who wanted to kill her a second ago, became quiet. Then he started to howl with happiness.
Mate.
The word was loud in my head. It felt like the Moon Goddess was screaming it. It shook my whole soul. I looked at Ronald. He looked shocked, too. His eyes were wide. He was smelling the air. She smelled like a storm in a forest. She smelled like everything I ever needed.
I looked at my shoulder. I touched the cut from the bullet. I put my fingers to my mouth and tasted my own blood. My golden eyes looked at hers. She was shaking now. Her gun hit the floor with a loud noise.
"You have a good aim, little wolf," I said. My voice was deep and scary, like a predator.
I was not angry anymore. I was interested. This beautiful girl had tried to kill an Alpha King. She was wearing leather that showed her curves. Her smell was making me go crazy.
The big doors opened again. Derrick, our acting Beta, ran in with six guards. They had their claws out.
"Alphas! I am so sorry!" Derrick shouted. He looked pale and worried, but I knew he was faking it. "This crazy girl escaped. She has no wolf, and she is trash. Guards, grab her! Take her away to be killed!"
The guards moved toward my mate. I started to growl deep in my chest. It was so loud the windows shook. I was going to change into a wolf and kill them for touching her. But Anna moved first.
She did not look at the guards. She did not look at me. She walked straight to Ronald. My brother is a King. Nobody tells him what to do. But he just stood there like a statue. She shoved her phone into his hand.
"Record this," she told him.
I blinked. I looked at Ronald. He is the Alpha King. But he just stared at her. He held the phone and actually hit the record button. He was doing what she said.
Anna turned around to face Derrick.
"You think I am trash, Derrick?" she asked. Her voice was cold.
"You are nothing!" Derrick said. He felt brave because the guards were there. "You are just a broken orphan. I only used you. You were good in bed, but Joanna is a real wolf—"
He did not finish. Anna’s fist moved fast. She punched him hard in the groin. He flew off his feet.
Derrick made a high noise and fell over. His face turned purple. But she was not done. She grabbed his hair and pulled his head up. She slapped him so hard it sounded like a gun. He spun to the ground.
"That was for the lies," she said.
She got on her knees over him and started beating him up. She punched his face and his stomach. She was full of rage. Derrick was the man running the pack for eight years, but now he was crying like a baby.
I watched her. I did not stop her. Ronald did not stop her either. The guards were shocked. They looked at us for orders, but I held up my hand. I wanted to see what she would do. She was amazing. She had no wolf, but she was beating a Beta in front of two Kings.
"And that," Anna said, giving him one last kick, "is for the rain."
She stood up and fixed her leather jacket. She looked at Derrick like he was gross. Then she walked back to Ronald. She grabbed her phone from his hand. She did not even say thank you. Ronald just stood there with his mouth open. He looked at her like she was a goddess.
"I am done with this pack," Anna said. Her eyes were like fire. "And I am done with all of you."
She turned around and walked out. Her boots made a clicking sound on the floor. I couldn't stop staring at her. I watched her hips move as she left. The smell of her strength stayed in the room. It made my wolf happy.
Derrick was still on the floor, holding himself and crying for help. I did not even look at him. He was pathetic. He had a diamond, and he traded it for a rock.
I looked at Ronald. My brother was still staring at the door. He looked very impressed. His Alpha energy was buzzing.
I leaned back against the desk and smiled. My shoulder hurt, but I felt great.
"Well, Ronald," I said. "It looks like coming home will be very fun."
My wolf agreed. We found her. She was strong, she was violent, and she was ours.
"I like powerful girls," I whispered.
Anna's POVRonald’s words fell like heavy iron blocks into the dusty air of the archive room, and the sudden silence that followed was so loud I could hear the tiny flame of the candle eating through its wax. I sat up completely on the leather cot, my fingers twisting into the rough sheet, my heart hammering against my ribs with a fierce, burning heat that had nothing to do with the triad bond."My father," I whispered, my voice shaking as I stared at the crimson ink on the ancient page Ronald was holding with trembling fingers. "Magnus told everyone he died in a border skirmish, he told my mother he was a nobody who abandoned us before the purge even started.""He lied to the entire continent, Anna," Ronald said, his face completely pale as he stepped over to the side of my cot, holding the silver-bound text open so I could see the circular sun crest stamped into the parchment. "Look at the records, Magnus didn't just assassinate him for the Silverfang territory, he did it because yo
Ronald's POVThe heavy link snapped, and Anna collapsed sideways into my chest, her pale skin burning with a chaotic, golden heat that felt like a furnace against my ribs. I caught her tightly, my boots skidding in the gray ash of the northern ridge camp, while Joanna remained face-down in the dirt, weeping softly from the absolute destruction of her mental barriers."Ryker, secure the northern warriors, they are completely leaderless now," I barked, lifting Anna into my arms as her platinum eyes closed, her breathing turning fast, shallow, and terrifyingly hot."I have the perimeter, Ronald, get her back to the archives," Ryker roared, his massive fists clenching as he turned his yellow wolf glare onto the five hundred northern spearmen, who were already dropping to their knees in submission before our combined triad aura.I didn't waste a single heartbeat, shifting mid-stride into my silver wolf form with Anna slung carefully across my broad shoulders, tearing through the dense fore
Anna's POVThe fifty black wolves stood perfectly still in the flickering firelight, their breathing a collective, heavy rumble that filled the wide arena, their freshly turned platinum eyes reflecting the massive wave of energy humming inside my chest cavity. Joanna scrambled backward on her knees, her hands clawing frantically at the loose gravel as she stared at the animals that had just been ready to tear my throat out under her command."This is impossible," Joanna shrieked, her voice cracking into a high, panicked squeak that echoed off the high rocks of the northern ridge. "Get up, you mindless beasts, I am your Alpha, I am Magnus’s blood, I command you to shred her to pieces right now."The giant black wolf closest to her foot didn't lung forward at me, it simply bared its long, silver fangs and let out a low, terrifying growl that vibrated directly against her shins, forcing her to freeze in pure terror.I stood up slowly from the dusty ground, my torn shirt fluttering in the
Anna's POVMid-fight, Magnus's wolves attack the arena, and Marcus is killed by Joanna. The sight of Marcus’s lifeless body hitting the smoking dirt sent a violent, icy shockwave right through our shared triad link, but before I could even draw a breath to yell a warning to Ryker, a heavy, suffocating weight slammed into my back from the shadows. Two massive, pitch-black wolves crashed into my shoulders, their combined weight pinning my face directly against the sharp gravel, their foaming jaws snapping inches from my ears as they held my limbs flat. I fought against the pressure, trying to call upon the deep pool of platinum energy inside my chest, but a sharp, sudden kick to my ribs cut my breathing short, making my vision blur into dark streaks."Look at you, lying in the dirt exactly where you belong," Joanna hissed, her shadow falling over my face as she stepped into my line of sight, her fingers dripping with Marcus's fresh crimson blood."Anna," Ronald screamed from across the
Ryker's POVThe sickening sound of teeth tearing into my mate's flesh echoed across the quiet clearing, and the triad bond inside my chest didn't just snap, it became a raging volcano of pure, unadulterated fury that obliterated my control. I burst through the thick foliage at the edge of the northern ridge, my heavy boots tearing up the damp dirt as I moved faster than a bullet, my yellow wolf eyes locked onto Marcus's broad shoulders."Get your filthy jaws off her," I roared, a sound so loud it caused several wine glasses on the neutral camp tables to shatter into pieces, and my large hand slammed into the back of Marcus’s neck, gripping his collar with a brutal strength.I hauled him backward with a massive, violent heave, ripping his fangs clean out of Anna's shoulder, a few drops of her dark crimson blood splashing onto the dry grass between us. Marcus stumbled over a loose stone, his boots skidding in the dirt as his five hundred northern warriors instantly drew their heavy iro
Anna's POVRonald’s voice cut through the shared triad link like a jagged piece of glass, the memory of Marcus’s arrogant face splashing into my mind through our new connection, and a dark, cold anger flared right inside my chest. I stood up from the mahogany table in the palace war room, the platinum lines beneath my skin pulsing with a sudden, dangerous heat that made the crystal chandelier above us rattle against the ceiling."He wants what?" Ryker growled beside me, his yellow wolf eyes flashing with a lethal ferocity as his large fists clenched until his knuckles popped loudly. "I will tear his camp to pieces, I will slaughter every northern warrior before I let that bastard touch you, Anna.""No, Ryker, stay down," I said, my voice dropping into that deep, layered resonance that made him instantly freeze in his tracks. "Ronald is surrounded by five hundred fighters, and we need those numbers to hold the valley against Derrick, so we are going to play his game for a little while.
Anna's POVI sat on the hospital bed while the healer examined my shoulder again, the wound that should have taken weeks to heal was almost completely gone. Just a pink scar remained where the silver bullet had torn through my flesh."This is remarkable," the healer said, shaking his head. "I've ne
Ronald's POVI sat in the chair beside Anna's hospital bed watching her chest rise and fall, the machines beeped steadily which meant she was stable but I couldn't stop staring at the bandage on her shoulder. The head healer had told me the bullet missed her heart by less than two inches, two inche
Anna's POVWe drove back to the palace in silence, my mind was spinning with everything Lily had told me. I had three days to live unless we found another antidote, Elena was going to die, and I still didn't know what my real weakness was."We need to talk about this," Ronald said when we got insid
Anna's POVI stared out the window watching the sun set over the mountains, somewhere up there Elena was being tortured because of me."Anna you need to eat something," Ronald said, he'd brought food but I couldn't look at it."I'm not hungry.""You haven't eaten all day.""My strength won't matter
