Chapter 3

Author: Baron Champy
"Damn! Has George figured everything out? I think he's about to turn this around!"

Then I headed straight to the large staff lounge.

Two surgeries had just finished, so many of my coworkers were sitting around, taking a break while waiting for their takeout.

Nurses on duty were constantly walking through the room as well. I didn't believe Malcolm would dare attack me in a place like this.

I casually found a seat in the corner. Before long, Malcolm's furious voice came from the doorway.

"Where's George? Get out here! You selfishly refused to save your own wife. A heartless person like you doesn't deserve to be a doctor!"

Malcolm stormed into the lounge with more than a dozen people, throwing the entire room into chaos.

"The side dude finally showed up with the death certificate to make a scene!"

"But George was prepared. He should be okay, right?"

I raised an eyebrow when I saw the comments.

A death certificate?

I let out a mocking laugh. I had never issued a death certificate.

Besides, Malcolm didn't understand how the medical system worked. He had no idea that the piece of paper in his hand meant nothing.

The people Malcolm brought didn't even give me a chance to speak. They rushed at me aggressively, trying to break my hand.

But I had already prepared for this. I immediately stepped behind the patients' family members who had been called over. When the other doctors saw people causing trouble inside the hospital, they became furious.

One of them immediately shouted at Malcolm.

"Who are you people? This is the doctors' office. If you keep causing trouble here, we'll call the police!"

The doctor called the police as soon as he finished speaking.

Malcolm glared at him and shouted.

"How can you say we're causing trouble? Dr. Westcott abused his position to deliberately kill his own wife and unborn child! He's pure evil! Move out of the way! We're here to make George answer for what he did. If you insist on getting involved, don't blame us if you get hurt!"

Malcolm thought his threats would scare the other doctors into pushing me out to protect themselves.

Instead, the more he threatened them, the more doctors stepped in front of me.

He looked disappointed.

I sneered and asked, "Malcolm, what evidence do you have that I abused my position to kill my own wife?"

Malcolm let out a cold laugh. "You want evidence? Fine. I'll give you evidence!"

Then he pulled out the death certificate the comments had mentioned.

He looked completely confident, but I wasn't worried at all.

I carefully examined the death certificate and quickly spotted the problem.

Pointing at the issuing institution, I said, "Malcolm, the patient died in this hospital. That means the death certificate should have been issued by our hospital. Even if you didn't trust us, you should have gone to another major hospital or a qualified medical examiner's office. How could you get a death certificate from some random neighborhood clinic? And another thing—the doctor who actually treated the patient last night wasn't me. By the time I entered the operating room, the emergency treatment was already over. The operating room security cameras recorded everything!"

As soon as I finished speaking, one of the doctors who had actually participated in the emergency treatment grabbed the death certificate to examine it.

After reading it, the doctor's face darkened with anger.

"'The patient died because treatment was delayed'? That's complete nonsense!"

They had started their affair the day after Cindy and I got married. One video clearly captured a conversation between Cindy and Malcolm."Malcolm, do you think our plan will really work?""Baby, don't worry. It'll work for sure. You'll just have to put up with things a little longer.""That's fine. I never wanted this baby anyway. Every time I'm around George, I feel sick. If it weren't for his money, I wouldn't stay by his side for even a second."The shocking twist at the press conference kept the "drunk doctor case" at the top of the trending searches for an entire week."I can't believe this. Those two are monsters.""Those elderly people are just as evil. How could they do something like this?""She's a disgrace to the word 'mother' and doesn't deserve any sympathy.""I hope that whole family gets what they deserve."Amid the public's outrage, the judge handed down a harsh sentence. Malcolm was sentenced to five years in prison for deliberately framing an innocent person. As for

I had already finished the energy drink, but I dug the bottle out of the trash. Luckily, there was still a small amount left at the bottom.I gave the bottle to Andrew and asked him to send it to a certified lab for testing.Andrew began, "This energy drink was specially prepared for Dr. Westcott by Cindy Westcott. Laboratory testing confirmed that alcohol had been deliberately added to the drink."Before he could continue, Gavin jumped to his feet and argued angrily,"Are you saying Cindy deliberately framed her own husband? Why would she ever do that? I could just as easily say George added the alcohol himself to avoid punishment and then blamed Cindy. After all, the dead can't defend themselves. They can only be slandered by the living!"I let out a small laugh."Gavin, don't get so worked up. You can ask your questions after my attorney finishes presenting all the evidence."Andrew wasn't affected in the slightest. He brought out the second piece of evidence calmly. It was security

As soon as the news was released, Malcolm secretly leaked the story online.Because it involved sensitive topics like a doctor-patient dispute, murdering a wife, and performing medical procedures while drunk, I quickly became the target of public outrage.Wave after wave of insults and accusations flooded the internet.Under the pressure of public opinion, the police decided to hold a press conference about the case.I wasn't surprised at all. In fact, I stayed completely calm. The officers handling the case thought I was either heartless or mentally unstable because I showed no reaction. But they had no idea this was the moment I had been waiting for. Before the press conference began, I saw Malcolm, Gavin, and Amelia. They would also attend as the victim's family. When Malcolm saw me wearing a prison uniform, he sighed dramatically."Dr. Westcott, if you'd confessed earlier, maybe this wouldn't have ended up all over the internet. At the press conference, you should sincerely repent.

I didn't know what had made them so determined to frame me.But at this point, the reason no longer mattered.Since they had made their choice, they couldn't blame me for showing them no mercy.I turned to the police officer beside me."Officer, I'll fully cooperate with your investigation."The police took me away for a blood test. While we waited for the results, Amelia suddenly walked over and sat beside me.The sharp, mocking tone she had used that morning was gone. Instead, she sounded unusually gentle and sincere."George, listen to me. Before the test results come back, you should confess. I know you didn't mean for Cindy and the baby to die. Don't worry. As long as you admit your guilt, Gavin and I will write a letter asking the court to show you leniency."Looking into Amelia's caring eyes, I almost let my guard down. Then another comment appeared."Damn it, George! Don't sign anything! That letter can end up being used as evidence to prove you're guilty!"After reading the co

My words shocked everyone once again.Gavin's face turned pale, and breathed rapidly.Seeing his condition, Amelia immediately rushed over, pointed at me, and yelled. "George, you've gone too far! You killed Cindy and the baby, and now you're trying to hurt Gavin too?"Malcolm, who was also Amelia's godson, quickly stepped over to comfort her."Amelia, please calm down. Don't make yourself sick because of him. The police are here, and I'm sure they'll handle this fairly."Then he turned to me."George, what evidence do you have that Gavin and I framed you?"A new comment suddenly appeared."Haha! He's still so confident. He has no idea George already gathered the evidence. Trash like him belongs in prison!"After reading the comment, I glanced at the confident Malcolm."Then what evidence do you have that I performed surgery while drunk?"Malcolm pointed at the empty liquor bottle sealed inside the evidence bag."That's the strongest evidence."I sneered. "Or maybe someone slipped thos

"I started treating the patient the moment she arrived last night. I used every possible method to save her, and the operating room cameras recorded the entire procedure! You're not going to slander us!"Malcolm looked as if he had expected this all along, so he wasn't surprised. He ignored the issue and stopped talking about the death certificate.Instead, he pointed at me and shouted."It doesn't matter! The treatment was delayed because George refused to save the patient when the nurse called him last night! I begged him in his office for a long time, but he still refused to help. The nurse can testify for me! Two people are dead now. Can any of you honestly guarantee that George didn't deliberately refuse to save them?"The doctors in the lounge immediately fell silent. This involved two lives, so no doctor dared to guarantee anything for me.Seeing that, Malcolm smiled smugly. He put on a grieving expression and said to the people behind him, "He killed Cindy! He has to take respo
