Chapter 7

Author: Axcellent
A faint, cold smile tugged at Dominic's lips. "So now I have to report everything I do to you?"

The remark set Isabella off instantly. She sprang to her feet, her voice sharp. "What kind of attitude is that? I was speaking to you calmly, and you—"

Her words faltered as surprise flickered across her face.

Dominic laughed mockingly. "What's wrong? Did you remember something?"

Isabella's expression darkened. She had remembered that she had said those exact words to him just two weeks ago.

It had been a rare weekend. Dominic had cooked a large dinner at home, planning for the three of them to eat together before taking a drive through the countryside. But just as they had been about to sit down, Isabella had received a call from Alexander. He had claimed that he had cut his leg, and she had panicked, snatching her purse and rushing for the door.

Dominic had tried to stop her, demanding to know where she was going.

Agitated, she had snapped, "Stop asking, will you? Do I have to report everything I do to you?"

She had tossed the words over her shoulder before slamming the door. Dominic had stood frozen in the living room for what felt like hours.

Now, back in the present, guilt flickered across Isabella's face. Nonetheless, she pressed, "You should at least let me know beforehand. I came back early today, and you weren't even home."

On ordinary days, Dominic would drop Lilith off at school, head straight home, and do chores or read. But today, Isabella had returned early to find the breakfast dishes still on the table, untouched. He had been gone all day.

Dominic shook his head, gathered the dishes, and said quietly, "You should learn to handle the chores yourself or hire a housekeeper."

Isabella frowned. "What's that supposed to mean, honey? Don't I already have you?"

Dominic paused mid-motion, turned, and looked her straight in the eye. "Was I born just to do housework?"

His gaze was sharp, and it made her flinch. For years, his eyes had held only gentleness. But now, something had changed.

Isabella felt an invisible weight pressing down, unsettling her. "That's not what I meant."

She drew a deep breath and forced the unease away. "I went to the office today. Alex showed up even though he's hurt. He said he wants to explain things to you, and I don't think you should—"

"Don't you dare bring up that bastard to me!" Dominic barked and slammed the dishes down hard.

Isabella had never seen him like this. She bristled in return, her own tone sharp. "Are you done, Dominic? You're blowing this out of proportion over baseless suspicions. Alex never once blamed you, even after you hit him, yet you keep clinging to this. Don't you think you're being unreasonable?"

"Unreasonable?" Dominic scoffed, pointing at himself. "Fine, I'm unreasonable. Do you have any idea how it feels when you keep calling him your dear brother? You think he's talented and considerate? Then go to him! I won't stop you. We'll file for divorce tomorrow!"

His anger boiled over.

Isabella's eyes widened. "Y-You're bringing up divorce again?"

"Why not? Should I just sit back and watch you and your so-called brother flirt like lovers?" He shot her a cold look before turning toward the kitchen.

"Say that again!" Isabella gritted her teeth and grabbed his shirt. "There's nothing inappropriate between Alex and me! You're slandering me. You owe me an apology, or I won't let this go!"

"Get off." Dominic shook her hand away without hesitation.

She stumbled back and fell to the floor. Meanwhile, Dominic walked into the kitchen without looking back.

She sat there, dazed, for a long moment.

"Mommy, why are you on the floor?" Lilith appeared, looking at her nervously. In every parental fight, the child always bore the brunt.

Isabella forced a smile and pulled herself up. "It's nothing, sweetheart. Mommy and Daddy were just playing around."

"Don't fight with Daddy," Lilith whispered. "He's the best daddy in the world."

'And I'm the best mommy in the world too…' Isabella felt wronged, her eyes reddening.

She sniffled, then held her daughter's hand gently. "Daddy and Mommy weren't fighting. We were just discussing something."

Lilith hesitated before asking cautiously, "Are you and Daddy going to split up?"

She was only six but perceptive enough to understand.

"Of course not." Isabella shook her head firmly. "Lily, Mommy and Daddy will never split up. We'll always live together as a family."

Relieved, the girl smiled brightly.

Isabella picked up her backpack with a soft smile. "Now go to your room and do your homework."

Once Lilith was settled, Isabella stepped out and closed the door.

Dominic had already washed the dishes and leaned on the balcony, smoking.

The heat of the argument had cooled, and Isabella had calmed as well. Her expression mixed resentment with fear as she approached him from behind and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Honey, let's not fight anymore. Lily was scared."

Dominic remained silent for a long moment before speaking. "I told you to fire him and cut all ties yesterday. Can you do that?"

Isabella froze. She hadn't expected him to bring it up again. Her face tightened. "I've already told you. There's nothing between us. You're mistaken. He's talented, and the company needs people like him…"

Dominic laughed bitterly and pried her hands from his waist. "So you can't do it. Stop dressing it up as some noble sacrifice for the company. What's the point?"

Isabella's company, worth over 10,000,000 dollars, was backed by the Sinclair Group, a billion-dollar empire. What did one intern who had been there three months matter? Nothing.

She hesitated before speaking. "Don't be angry, honey. I promise I'll try to keep my distance from him. But firing him… I really can't do that."

Dominic shook his head and went back inside. If she could have kept her distance, she would have already done so. Many so-called innocent relationships between men and women escalated over time. Maybe she already had feelings for him.

The thought cut into Dominic's heart like a blade, leaving only pain.

Inside the private ward, Sebastian's bloodshot eyes blazed with fury as he roared, "I'll kill him! I swear I'll kill him!"Half his body was wrapped in bandages. Although his severed arm had been recovered that day, he had been shot four times, and much of the tissue had already died. Reattachment was no longer possible. In other words, from that day forward, the Anderson heir was truly disabled. The middle-aged woman beside him held his hand, tears welling in her eyes as she called his name, "Sebastian...""Mom! Why hasn't the family acted yet? That bastard Dominic cut off my arm. Is he really going to get away with it?" Sebastian snarled. At that moment, Xavier walked into the room and spoke calmly. "What punishment do you want him to receive?"Grinding his teeth, Sebastian said, "I want him dead!"Xavier replied coldly, "So you still see him as some rich bumpkin from a small city?""I—""When Dominic caused trouble at the Hale estate, the Harris family had already publicly

Genevieve didn't look angry at all after Dominic stated it so bluntly. Instead, she smiled. "I've heard about your exploits."Dominic smiled. "What, do you admire me?"Genevieve chuckled softly. "Admire you? Not quite. But taking on eight experts by yourself certainly attracted a lot of attention."A glint flashed through Dominic's eyes. "Attention? To deal with me? Or perhaps... to find out what my trump card is?"Genevieve smiled. "Do you know when a wolf is most dangerous?"Without waiting for an answer, she continued, "When it's hidden in the shadows. It crouches low, fixes its gaze on its prey, and keeps its claws concealed. That's when it's at its most dangerous."But once it reveals itself, it loses that advantage. Because no matter how fierce a wolf is, it can't withstand a hunting rifle."Dominic, no, Mr. Fleming, do you agree?"Dominic applauded lightly. "Miss Genevieve, that makes a lot of sense. But what if the other side isn't a wolf? Would that hunting rifle still

"You..." Derrick's eyes turned bloodshot. Like a man possessed, he threw a punch straight at Kendrick, smashing his fist into his face. "You're asking for death!"His shout drew the attention of everyone nearby. The blow sent Kendrick staggering back several steps. If the wall hadn't been behind him, he would have fallen to the ground.Instinctively, he touched his nose. When he pulled his hand away, it was covered in blood."You... You dared to hit me? I'm gonna kill you!"A single punch was nowhere near enough to extinguish Derrick's rage. Roaring, he charged forward again. However, a group of people quickly rushed over. They were the bar's security guards, and they immediately restrained Derrick. The manager's face darkened. "Sir, fighting isn't allowed in Dreamscape. Yo—."Dominic calmly interrupted him, "If Shaun Jones were standing here himself, he wouldn't dare stop this."Hearing that name, even the bar manager froze. "Mr. Jones?"Derrick continued struggling, his eye

"Reserving a table?" The man's expression grew even more disdainful as he sneered. "First time here? I'm in a good mood tonight, so I won't stoop to your level. Get lost."Everyone knew that Dreamscape was essentially a gathering place for Daryon's elite heirs. As for the people nobody could afford to offend, no one had ever seen them come in personally to reserve a table. One phone call was enough for the bar manager to set aside a private room for them. The man appeared to be in his 20s. He was clearly someone of status, so he naturally didn't take a newcomer like Derrick, who was obviously visiting for the first time, seriously."You!" Derrick immediately clenched his fists. At that moment, Dominic grabbed him and calmly said, "Enough. Let him off the hook."It wasn't because Dominic was afraid. If Derrick started a fight, whether he won or lost, it would be difficult to explain to Charles. After all, it was the Vitro Festival, a day meant for family reunions. The man looked a

Dreamscape was one of the largest bars in Daryon. Rumor had it that its connections were extraordinary. The owner behind the scenes was a member of the Jones family, which was the only reason the bar could operate in the capital's highly coveted inner district.Naturally, the prices inside were outrageously expensive. There were even rumors that the building's electrical wiring was made of gold.Dominic drove with a cigarette hanging from his lips as he spoke. "So you've heard all these stories, but you've never actually been there?"Derrick sat in the passenger seat and replied awkwardly, "I don't dare. If I did, my uncle would break my legs."Dominic laughed.Thinking about it, though, it made sense. The Harris family came from a military background, so their children's upbringing was naturally stricter. Derrick had only just turned 18, and most of his life experience had come from school. He was completely different from Jessica. Before long, the two arrived at Dreamscape's en

As parents, neither Charlie nor Linda was qualified.Linda didn't argue. Her face merely paled slightly, and her proud chest rose and fell, making it clear she wasn't calm.Dominic scoffed. "But it doesn't matter anymore. If you won't love Jessica, I will! From now on, whoever dares hurt her, no matter who they are, don't blame me for turning my back on them."Linda turned to look at him, her beautiful eyes fixed on his face. After a long silence, she finally said, "Dominic, I underestimated you."Dominic let out a mocking laugh and didn't bother responding. Not long afterward, the car pulled up at the entrance to the Harris estate.Dominic said flatly, "Thank you, Mrs. Hale."With that, he stepped out of the car.Linda watched his departing figure, a complicated look appearing in her eyes....Isabella was sitting in the living room. The moment she saw Dominic return, she called out happily, "Honey! You're finally back!"Dominic nodded and glanced around. "Where's Jewel?"
