Chapter 2

Author: Lynn Green
"The child you left behind all those years ago is long gone. She didn't even have a proper name, so your parents sent her to an orphanage," I said.

"That's enough!" Jody snapped, cutting me off.

She continued, "Back then, Henry and I left our child with you while we traveled around the world. I know you're still angry about that, but Henry is her biological father. Give the kid back to him!"

Once her words fell, she shoved me aside and snatched Natalie out of my arms.

Natalie frantically struggled against her hold. Her face turned bright red as she screamed, "Let me go, you bad lady!"

Jody, however, turned a deaf ear to her cries and immediately handed her over to Henry.

Henry handled Natalie roughly and left several red marks on her arm. Despite that, he acted as if he hadn't noticed and continued to grip her arm tightly.

"I'm your actual daddy, sweetie," he told her.

I felt my chest tighten. While Jody blocked me from reaching Henry, I could only watch helplessly as Natalie screamed and struggled to break free.

Leaning close to me, Jody asked in a cocky and smug voice, "Did you miss me, Dami?"

Miss her? I wanted nothing more than for her to disappear right this second.

"Move out of the way, or I'm calling the police!" I demanded.

At that moment, Natalie suddenly lowered her head and bit down on Henry's wrist. When he cried out in pain and loosened his grip, she immediately rushed back to me.

Standing between me and Jody, she stretched out her arms and said, "Stop picking on my daddy, you bad lady!"

Clutching his wrist, Henry instantly burst into tears.

"I know Damian is still mad about our relationship, Jody, but the kid is innocent. He must've taught her to reject her biological parents. Otherwise, there's no way she'd treat us this way," he cried.

Upon hearing his words, Jody grew furious. She marched forward and grabbed Natalie before lifting her off the ground by her collar.

"You ungrateful little brat!" she spat. "How dare you hurt your own father? I'm going to teach you a lesson!"

Natalie's face paled as she dangled in midair. She kicked and flailed around desperately while crying in fear.

I was mortified. Natalie's clothes were custom-made from silk. It couldn't withstand that kind of rough handling at all.

"Put the child down, Jody! We can talk this out," I urged.

More and more travelers began to gather around us.

The crowd whispered among themselves, but I could barely register what they were saying. All of my attention was fixed on Natalie's collar, which looked like it could tear apart at any moment.

All of a sudden, Henry dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms tightly around my legs.

"If you're upset at me, you should've just hit me or berated me. How could you deliberately turn my daughter against me?

"It's one thing to stop her from acknowledging me as her father. I can't believe you taught her to hate her mother too. Jody has never stopped thinking about you and Natalie…"

Jody turned toward me and flashed me a disappointed and angry look.

"Dami, I entrusted my child to you because I believed you'd take good care of her. I can't believe you taught her to reject her biological parents! How can you be so evil?" she spat.

She continued, "Now that Henry and I are back, this kid should come with us. From now on, you should stay out of her business."

I found her words utterly ridiculous.

Back then, she abandoned a child with congenital heart disease and eloped overseas with Henry without so much as an explanation. If Ivy hadn't stepped up and chosen to marry me, I would've become a laughingstock.

Henry dropped to his knees and started to grovel as well. "We're really sorry, Aunt Ivy, Damian. Please let us go. This won't happen again, we swear!"Staring at them emotionlessly, I spat coldly, "Do you really think you can make up for what you've done with a simple apology?"Turning to Jody, I said, "You ran away from our wedding, abandoned your own baby, and deliberately tried to harm my daughter. Every single one of those acts was unforgivable."Then, I looked at Henry and continued, "You destroyed someone else's marriage, eloped with Jody, and ditched your child. On top of that, you also deliberately hurt Natalie. Did you really think you could get off scot-free?"Ivy gestured for the bodyguards to pull Jody and Henry apart. Then, she took out a document and tossed it onto the floor in front of them."This is a disownment agreement from the Simmons family," she said coolly. "Once you sign it, you'll no longer be a member of my family."She paused briefly before adding, "Als

"Why did you abandon me?" the baby's voice cried. "Dad? Mom? Don't you want to be with me?"Jody kicked at the empty air in front of her, sending dust flying everywhere. "Who's there? Stay away!" he yelled. "Don't come after me. Go to her instead! She's the one who gave you to Damian!"Jody, whom Henry was pointing at, immediately went pale. Her lips trembled uncontrollably as she screamed, "If it weren't for your sperm, I would never have been able to get pregnant!"Then, she added, "He's your father! Go to him instead!"The eerie light flickered as the sound of a sobbing baby contin

Ivy and I bent gently pulled Natalie into our arms. Natalie buried her face in Ivy's neck and whispered, "I protected Daddy, Mommy. I bit the bad man, but I didn't get to beat the bad lady…"Ivy instantly teared up. She gently patted Natalie's back and replied, "You're amazing, Natalie. You're our little sweetheart. You protected your father, and I'm so proud of you."I wasn't sure if Natalie fully understood Ivy's words, but she nodded anyway. Afterward, she snuggled up against my chest and said, "I'm not in pain anymore, Daddy. I'm just a little hungry."My heart ached. Placing a kiss on her forehead, I said, "Once you're feeling better, I'll make you your favorite mac and cheese."…Later that night, Ivy took my hand and led me out into the hospital corridor after Natalie had fallen asleep again. She leaned against the wall and caressed my cheek. In a low voice, she asked, "How do you want to deal with Jody and Henry, Dami?"The dim corridor lights cast a soft glow over her

Ivy looked absolutely murderous. She strode forward and kicked Jody to the floor.Jody let out a pained cry. Her wrist struck the corner of the table and immediately began to swell. When she lifted her head and realized who was standing before her, her eyes widened in alarm."A-Aunt Ivy?" she stammered. "When did you get back?"Ivy didn't spare her a single glance. She drove her foot into Jody's chest and kicked her out of the way.Jody was sent skidding across the floor. Clutching her chest, she doubled over and coughed hysterically, unable to utter a single word.Henry instantly stiffened. He instinctively tried to hide Natalie behind him. But before he could do so, Ivy grabbed his wrist and tightened her grip."Ah—that hurts!" he cried out in pain before loosening his hold on Natalie. Ivy carefully cradled Natalie in her arms. Then, she brushed her fingers across her bluish face and the blood at the corner of her mouth. Trembling, she rasped, "It's okay, Natalie. Mommy's h

Henry stretched out his arms to block my way. Holding back tears, he croaked, "Damian, I've tolerated your behavior and continued treating you with respect because you've looked after my child for the past five years. However, I never imagined that you would deliberately lead her astray and ruin her life like this."He added, "You taught her to hate her own parents and even fed her food she's allergic to. What exactly are you trying to do?"At that moment, Jody hurried into the room. She had overheard everything Henry had just said. With an icy look on her face, she snapped, "Didn't I just tell you to stop causing trouble, Damian? Taking over Simmons Corporation is incredibly important to me. I don't have time to deal with your childish outbursts."Suddenly, Natalie started coughing violently, and her tiny body began to convulse uncontrollably.Unable to hold back any longer, I roared, "Ivy Simmons is my wife and the mother of my child! If you continue to stop me from taking Nat
