Chapter 3

Four months passed.

I was completely used to this hot body.

Every late night, I would curl up on Caleb's broad chest, pressing my cool skin seamlessly against him.

"Throw away that damn incense. It gives me a headache."

Caleb's soul hovered by the headboard, rubbing his temples in annoyance.

This top Alpha who ruled the North became incredibly clingy in his soul state. He had an almost obsessive possessiveness over my scent.

The next day, I secretly tossed the super expensive calming incense into the trash.

I switched back to my usual cheap peach body wash.

When that sweet scent mixed with my body heat and filled the bed, Caleb's soul let out a satisfied low groan.

I got bolder, too.

In the dead of night, I was too hot to sleep.

My fingertips unconsciously wandered over his hard chest, lightly tracing the scary old scar over his heart.

"Don't touch."

Caleb's soul sounded crazy raspy.

He stared at my mischievous fingers. His translucent Adam's apple bobbed hard.

"When I get back in there... I'll settle this score with interest."

I wasn't scared of him.

As long as I got the five million and the estate, he could settle it however he wanted.

The turning point happened late one night a few days later.

The bedroom was stiflingly hot.

My sweat and body scent fully mixed, brewing in the closed space.

Without warning.

The Alpha's body on the bed suddenly jerked.

The next second, a pair of arms locked tightly around my waist.

"Ah—" I gasped.

Relying on his terrifying Alpha instincts, Caleb's body shoved me hard against his chest.

He turned his head. His hot breath hit my neck.

Then, he bit down hard on my collarbone.

"It hurts... let go..." I sucked in a cold breath from the pain. Tears pricked my eyes.

Caleb's soul in mid-air froze, too.

He watched his body's rough instinctive reaction. Extreme, thrilling red lust instantly flared in his eyes.

"He recognizes you." Caleb licked his phantom lips. His voice dripped with deadly danger and pleasure. "Even in the most feral, mindless state, my wolf still knows you are mine. Marking what's his."

He let go.

A clear bite mark was left on my collarbone.

At the end of the fourth month.

The doctor came for a routine check-up. He looked at the data on the monitor, hands shaking with excitement.

"A miracle! An absolute miracle! His temperature is down, the wolf is waking up, and the silver poison is mostly cleared!"

This was definitely good news.

I was only one step away from my five million and freedom.

But I didn't expect this news to attract a vicious bitch.

That afternoon, wrapped in a long robe, I went to the hallway outside the bedroom to get some water.

I had just poured a cup of warm water.

Slap!

A brutally loud slap hit my face.

The glass dropped and shattered. Hot water splashed on my ankles.

My cheek instantly swelled up, burning with pain.

I looked up.

Stella stood in front of me, arms crossed.

She wore perfect makeup, but her eyes were full of unhidden jealousy and malice.

She realized I had survived without a scratch and was about to reap the rewards.

"I heard he's waking up soon?" Stella cornered me, looking down her nose at me.

I held my face and clenched my teeth, saying nothing.

"You slut. Do you really think sleeping with him for four months makes you a Luna?"

Stella grabbed the collar of my robe.

"Listen carefully. The second Caleb opens his eyes, I will tell everyone that for the past four months, I was the one who risked my life, stripped naked, and slept with him every night!"

"If my body could move right now, I'd rip her apart myself."

Caleb's soul charged right through the door.

His eyes were blood-red, bursting with killing intent. He reached out to choke Stella!

But he was just a phantom.

His hands uselessly passed through Stella's body.

"Delusional bitch." Caleb's soul pulled his hands back, his eyes ice-cold. "My soul watched who slept in my arms every night. There's no way I'd ever mistake my mate."

Of course, Stella couldn't hear the soul's declaration.

She eyed me with disdain and arrogantly patted my stiff, angry cheek.

"Be smart and get the hell out of here now. When Caleb wakes up, I'll rightfully take the Luna throne you traded your body for. And you won't get a damn thing."
