LOGINAria's POV:
‘What was I thinking?’ The question echoed in my head so loudly it felt like it might split my skull open.
What kind of madness had possessed me to reject the offer of a man who could have killed me without blinking? A man who could have forced me to do his bidding with a single command, or a single flex of Alpha command, and no one would have questioned it.
Yet I, a slave girl who had been dragged here in chains, looked him in the eyes and said no.
My heart pounded painfully against my ribs as reality crashed down on me in waves. What kind of audacity did I think I had? What kind of courage, or stupidity had made me defy Alpha Luthor Darkmoon in his own home?
Still… none of it made sense.
One moment, he wanted breeders whose sole purpose was to bear his children and be discarded. The next moment, he wanted a wife for an entire year.
‘Something must've changed.’ I said to myself, mind drifting back to the man who had interrupted him earlier.
What did he say to Luthor outside those doors? What kind of argument could make a man like him change his plans so suddenly? And why me of all people?
The sound of his voice pulled me out of my spiraling thoughts. “Do you want time to think about it?” Draven asked calmly. “You may give me your answer later if you wish.”
I looked up at him slowly, my heart still hammering as his eyes met mine and I stiffened because they were cold in a way that made my skin prickle with unease.
There was no warmth there and it made me feel unsafe, because I had no idea whether this was a test or a trap. An Alpha giving a slave the illusion of choice was strange. Or maybe… maybe he truly was different from the rumors.
But I highly doubted that.
The silence stretched for a while longer, until my mouth betrayed me and I blurted out the first question clawing at my mind.
“Why?” I asked hoarsely. “Why do you want me to be your wife for an entire year?”
“My pack has a tradition that every Alpha must produce an heir before the age of thirty-five.” He said evenly. “And failure to do so means losing the Alpha title to the next bloodline, but I happen to be the last of mine. So if I don't produce an heir, then the title would be given to another.”
He paused for a second, clearly frustrated then he continued. “I intended to use a breeder but the Elders forbade it and insisted that the future Alpha must be born of a Luna, not a sex slave to keep the Pack’s spiritual energy stable.”
I let out scoff and tilted my head back slightly, staring at the ceiling as if the Goddess herself might be listening. “I will never carry your child.” I said firmly, and I regretted immediately but he did not get angry.
Instead, he said calmly. “You won’t.”
My gaze snapped back to him, stunned as he explained. “You will only pretend to be pregnant, while a breeder will carry my heir in secret. When she successfully births a son, I will take the child in and present him as yours. And when the time is right, we will divorce, for a reason the Elders cannot challenge.”
My stomach churned violently because his words were horrifying. And yet… strangely, he hadn’t forced me, compelled me, or threatened me.
That alone made the situation terrifying because my life had flipped upside down in the span of days. One moment I was walking home through the forest, exhausted but hopeful. The next, I was sold, beaten, transported, and now… standing at a crossroads that would determine my entire future.
If I said no, what if he killed me for daring to defy him? If I said yes, what if the entire year became a nightmare of politics, manipulation, and pack power struggles that broke me completely?
My hands trembled, but then another thought crept in. If I said yes… I would survive an entire year safe from physical abuse and I wouldn’t be discarded like trash for defying him. And once the year was over… I could walk away.
The choice, horrifying as it was, became clear, so with my fists clenched tightly at my sides, I said. “I will do it.”
A smirk curved his lips immediately. “You will do what?” He asked and I replied. “I will be your wife for a year.”
Then, he stood up and extended his hand toward me. I hesitated only a second before taking it, allowing him to pull me to my feet. “Thank you.” I murmured, my voice barely steady.
“It is quite late, we will discuss further tomorrow.” He began. But you should know this, by morning, I will inform the Elders that I have found my fated mate and intend to make her my Luna. Meaning that tomorrow onward, you will bear the title of Alpha Draven's mate so behave as one.”
He paused then continued. “The contract will be drafted and presented to you. You will read it, understand it, sign it and understand that once the agreement ends, you will be rewarded with anything you desire, as long as it is within my reach.”
I opened my mouth to thank him again, but he cut me off. “You should go, we will speak tomorrow.”
“I… I don’t know where to go.” I admitted. “I don’t know anywhere here.”
“Just ask any maid you see on your way out to take you to Madam Roxanne. Then inform her that you are one of the girls brought in earlier. She’ll show you where you’ll stay tonight.”
Thanking him, I bowed my head and hurried out. But as soon as I was about to reach the entrance, the man standing there, glared at me. So I lowered my head respectfully and moved past him without a word.
Stepping out of the garden, I had no idea whether to go left or right, but then chose right at random. After a while, I turned a corner and collided with someone.
“Oh! I’m so sorry.” I apologized and the plainly dressed looked at me, surprised. “It’s alright.” She said. “Do you need help?”
“Yes, please.” I nodded. “Can you take me to Madam Roxanne?”
“Of course.” She smiled. “I’m Nicolle, what’s your name?”
Before I could answer, my eyes drifted past her to see a little girl no older than five running down when she suddenly tripped and fell hard. Without thinking, I rushed forward and lifted her gently.
“Are you alright?” I asked softly, noticing that she didn’t cry or speak, she just stared at me silently.
Suddenly, a maid rushed forward and yanked the child from my arms. “I was just helping her up.” I said, stunned and the maid snapped. “I didn’t ask for your help.”
Nicolle hurried over. “Why do you look upset? Did she say something to you?”
“I helped the little girl, but her mother shouted at me.” I said quietly and Nicolle scoffed. “That’s not her mother, that’s her personal maid.”
“Why would such a small girl need a personal maid?” I asked and Nicolle let out a chuckle. “That’s not just any little girl, that's Alpha Draven'sdaughter, Ella.”
ARIA’S POVEvery step I took away from the pack house left me feeling emptier.By the time I was far enough, it was like there was a pit in my stomach. I could feel the raw unfiltered air in my abdomen.“I would ask if you’re okay, but you don’t look okay.”“Agatha!”I wrapped my arms firmly around her and wouldn’t let go.It was the first ounce of warmth I had felt in weeks.“Okay, big baby.”Agatha patted my back and consoled me as I sobbed uncontrollably in her arms.It took almost an hour to get my eyes to run out of tears and Agatha sat with me through every second of it.“I’ve lost everything, Agatha. Everything.” I lamented. “Even in death, Logan still manages to win somehow.”“Shhh…don’t say that.” She said softly.“It doesn’t feel like a lot right now, but you survived.”She was right. As far as I was concerned, I was better off dead. Death was better than the empty life I now had.“Logan only wins if you let him…” she continued. “He is nothing but dust and ash now and if you
ARIA’S POVEvery bit of the renunciation broke me.The ritual was as physically painful as it was emotionally taunting.I passed out as soon as it was complete and was pulled away from Draven immediately.A smile covered my lips when I opened my eyes.“Baby,”Caleb and Aya were hovering over me and their face being the first thing I got to see filled a part of the emptiness I was feeling inside, following the renunciation ritual.“Mom,” they threw their little arms around me.A drop of tear trickled down my cheek as I recognized the room I had been placed in. The same room that served as a prison to Draven when he would lose it.“How are you?”Caleb ran to the door, unable to answer my question and leaving me confused there for a second.“Aya, we have to go,” he said, “They’re coming. We have to go.”The sense of urgency was alarming.“We were told we would only be allowed to see you under supervision and when you wake up, but we couldn’t wait and sneaked down here…”“Aya!”She had to
ARIA’S POVI stood by the bed, staring at his motionless body.I could not decide which was worse—that he was dead, which was my first thought, or that he was lying down here at the verge of death because of me.“Mummy, will he wake up?” The kids had tears in their eyes as they asked.Tears flowed down my cheeks.I hope that he would, but I knew better.Ragner walked into the room quietly with two maids and a guard.“Get them settled.”The maids pulled Caleb and Aya away from Ragner’s body.“The physician wants to speak with you,” I confirmed with a nod.“Is he ever going to wake up?” I probed, as soon as the man walked in.“There might be a way to make that happen,”My eyes lit up with something I hadn’t felt in a very long time—hope.“But you’re the only one who can make it happen.”“Say it. Tell me. I’d do anything.”The physician was not pleased by my enthusiasm and neither was Ragner, which was what led me to believe that there was more to this story.“You have to renounce the ma
ARIA’S POVAs soon as Agatha stepped out of the tent, the bell went off. The same bell that assembled and the entire camp reacted the same way they always did.I watched from the curtain of the tent as they all assembled.“They’re waiting for you,” Agatha said, walking to me and softly.“Me? You assembled them. What do you want me to tell them? That I killed Logan?”Agatha smiled. It amazed me how she could still smile amidst everything.Sure. Logan was getting on my last nerve and the whole essence of coming here was to find a way to conquer him, but I didn’t expect to claim his life with my bare hands.“I have never hurt anyone like that in my life before,” I stared at his body on the floor.“Listen to me,” Agatha held my face in her palms and stared directly into my eyes as she spoke. “That bastard hurt you. He had it coming.”She paused.“Quite frankly, if you didn’t do it and Madame Violetta hadn’t passed, she probably would have anyway.”I tilted my head to the side, agreeing wi
ARIA’S POV “Eventually, you would have to leave that bed. It’s been three days. Why are you acting like someone killed you?” I laid there in silence. I neither moved nor spoke. In the last three days, I hadn’t moved from the bed. I hadn’t eaten, bathed, or moved. I had barely done anything else other than breathe. Logan on the other hand had become the opposite of everything I knew. He was no longer obsessed with me, wanting to be everywhere I was, nor was he talking about our ‘dream family’. My whole life had crashed before my very eyes. I had lost everything. Lost myself. “Okay. I’m done having to deal with your nonsense. Get out of bed.” Logan charged towards me, pulling me aggressively out of bed by the arm. He had me on my feet but I collapsed to the floor as soon as he let go. “What the hell is wrong with you?” He kicked me hard in the stomach. Even with the extreme use of force, I did not respond. The pain was nothing compared to the emotional torture I had been facin
DRAVEN’S POV “I’m not comfortable with this, Ragner. I never was and I’m not sure how much longer I can hold on.” Ragner and I walked through the pack while he listened quietly as I ranted. “It’s been days, weeks even. What if there is no safe way out of all of this? Maybe we should just let Logan raid on us, whoever survives will.” “Why are you not saying anything? You supported her when she wanted to go. You said it was the only way. Now you have nothing to say?” “At this point, there really is nothing left to be said.” Ragner responded. “Our hands are…” “Arghh!!!” I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen. It was like someone snapped my intestine with a giant scissors. “What is it? Are you okay?” Ragner rushed to help me. He supported my weight from under my arms and did not let me get to the ground, but it did not help the pain in any way. I could not stop myself from yelling. I had experienced excruciating pain from becoming a monster, but this was nothing like it. This w
ARIA'S POV:“Ahhhhh!” I yelled at the top of my voice. The only thing preventing me from jumping out of my skin was his arms firmly wrapped around me.He jumped up, startled, then freed his arms. I watched him act very nonchalant, stretching out. “It's too early for tantrums,” he said, dropping fro
Draven's POV:“Would you look at that? A gift from the moon goddess herself,” Ragner teased as he followed behind me into my room.“Quit it!” I immediately hushed him, trying so hard to hide the smile on my face. Ragner and I would occasionally cross the lines of friendship. He had been with me for
ARIA’S POVHe kicked the door open and his presence came with literal light. “Hmmm!” I struggled since my mouth was wrapped with a piece of cloth.“What the hell!” Draven rushed to me. He untied my mouth first, before going behind the chair to undo the knots that held my hand behind the chair. “Wh
