I stood staring at the black-haired girl that lay on the bed.
“Human.” I cursed and ran my hands through my hair.
The Moon goddess shouldn’t have done this. It was obvious I would reject the bond.
I would clearly not take in a mere human as a mate. Humans are weak and inferior. This very mate of mine had only become unconscious just by my mere touch.
Marking her or mating with her would obviously get her bedridden for god knows how long.
I gently shut the door of the room and moved to scan her face. I leaned closer, my breath cooling her still face.
I accessed every bit of her face, from her dark long hair that was scattered on the bed to her thick eyebrows and then her tiny lips that were pure pink.
I swallowed hard; she was really beautiful.
Humans were actually very beautiful here in Lycaonia.
I backed off and dipped my hands into my pocket. I heaved terribly before heading to the chair at the far end of the room.
My gaze returned to the human girl lying on my bed, and the thought of throwing her out came crawling into my head. But for some reason, I knew I wouldn’t. I just had to assure myself I will.
I had earlier on bought her for reasons I couldn't even explain, and now she turns out to be my mate.
I grabbed the bottle of an abandoned whiskey on the desk and a glass and poured out its contents.
I sipped on the liquor while I waited for Austin.
My gaze was fixed intently on the human to know when she moves an inch.
I watched keenly as her limbs moved.
I sprang up from the chair and walked over to the bed. But she lay still, and only the pulsating sound of her chest could be heard.
“Pathetic beings," I spat.
I hissed and was heading back to the chair when the room door flung open.
“Alpha,” Austin called and hurried over towards me.
“The priestess has been called, and the council of elders advise she shouldn't be sent away," Austin said, his voice pleading.
I looked at his face and nodded. Austin was an honest beta, and he had really helped in finding my mate for the longest time.
I walked over to the desk and took hold of the glass and sipped on the liquor again. This time around, gulping it down once. Then poured more of its content onto the glass.
"Alpha," Austin called and held the glass, preventing me from taking the liquor.
He knew how I hated humans and was more draining as a mate.
“I think you should stop taking more of it till the priestess arrives.” He dropped the liquor on the desk.
I nodded again and headed back to sit.
“You can go on Alpha while I watch her.” Austin voiced, pointing at the girl.
I shook my head in disapproval. Something in me wouldn't let me leave her sight.
“You can go, Austin, while I watch her.” I said slumping on the chair.
Austin walked back towards the door, he pulled out an old book from the shelf above the door.
As he lifted it out, dust scattered into the air, nearly choking the both of us.
“What's that Austin?” I struggled to speak, coughing out loudly.
Austin walked towards the desk with the book in his hands. “The mega-ancient book," he said and dropped it on the desk.
I stared at the long-aged book with thorn edges and thorn backs. I watched Austin as he opened the book, flipping through the pages that stuck together.
He tried to separate one page from another, each page revealing the ancient diagrams of the extinct wolves.
“Why do you need them, Austin?. All wolves there are extinct and long gone.” I queried.
Austin didn’t respond but kept flipping through the pages of the book. He flipped forward and backward; his expression changed into a frown that showed disappointment.
“Wrong book." He hissed and walked over the shelf and dropped it.
He looked over the books arranged on the shelf, and his gaze rested on one. His lips curled into a triumphant smile, and he pulled the book out and headed to my desk again.
"Adrain, what’s with you and the books?" I raised an eyebrow, confused and irritated by the unnecessary search of the book.
“Volume two of the mega-ancient book. He said, his eyes fixed on the book.
"Okayyyyyy," I dragged, confused at where the information was heading.
He started flipping through its pages again.
I watched him for quite a while, sighed, and rested my head on the chair.
I brought my eyes down to see Austin still flipping through endless pages of a book and pausing once in a while to glance at Emilia.
He flipped and got to the end of the page, then stared down hard at the image on it.
He glanced at me then back at the image.
He carried the book in his palm and headed towards the human girl that lay lifelessly.
He glanced at her upper arm and then back at the book before signaling me to come.
I hesitated for a while before finally moving towards him.
“The mark Alpha, it's the same.” Austin said, his voice more like a whisper.
I stared at him before taking the book from him.
I stepped a little closer to her, and my gaze dropped to the mark in her upper arm and then the exact image and it was crystal clear.
I stood still and froze at the spot.
Looking into Austin's eyes inquiringly.
~Ava~“Dad!" I muttered in shock and stood up abruptly from the bed.He kept glancing at the girl and then back at me.He adjusted his glasses to see clearly before walking in fully."Ava.” He called and hurried over to the servant sitting on the floor."She is bleeding.” He continued."What happened here, Ava? She is bleeding.”I was confused at what to do next and prayed silently for a thought to cross my mind.I have never been caught off guard without finding an escape. This present situation won't be an exception.“Tell me what happened here." He yelled and turned to the girl, glaring at her for her to speak up.But I found my voice before the girl could speak.“She tripped and fell, breaking the glass of water she brought for me in the process.”My father shot her a cold stare, like he was going to tear her apart the next second. He hated it when people destroyed things. He didn't care if it was a family member, and worst still, this situation involves a servant. He will never t
~Ava~I bardged into my room still fuming from my encounter with Nyx.She just made my day a mess!A complete mess. What happened there was far from what I planned.I paced around my room and suddenly felt suffocated.I looked down at my hand, realizing I still held the bag Nyx threw on that disgusting floor.I tossed the bag to the floor, and let out a loud hiss.I looked at my palm; the injury was still there; I only managed to tie a bandage around it, to prevent the blood from dropping down.Still in pain, I clenched my fist tightly as I burned in anger. The incident still left me in a rage as I recalled what Nyx just did. And for no reasons, I noticed my heart was skipping like I was in big trouble.“How dare Nyx humiliate me!” I said to myself. This whole drama was all because I needed her help.I slumped into my bed, still in thought on what to do. "How do I get a solution to this?” I asked myself calmly.I needed to do something real quick before I loose everything.I was about
~ Emilia ~I didn't step out of my room the whole day. Ivy came back to apply the ointment like she had said earlier and returned in the afternoon when she wanted to serve me my lunch.I ate almost everything she brought, because I was so famished at the time she came.I decided to sleep when my head began to bang and then woke up now to realize the day was almost over.I tossed on the bed, still feeling very tired and exhausted, like I had been working the whole day.I reached for my phone under the pillow, and I was shocked to see the time; it was 4:56 pm.I rolled out of the bed, not feeling the pains I felt on the leg before. It means the ointment worked perfectly and the hot water too.I owe Ivy dearly for the treatment she applied on the leg.She really outdid herself to make sure I was okay, and it worked. The leg isn't healed completely, but at least almost all the pain is gone.I sat down on the edge of the mattress and supported my body with the bedframe before standing on m
~Emilia~“Ivy!" I screamed, jolting backwards as the water threw on the floor. She stepped backwards, her hands raised to the air in confusion."I'm so sorry, Luna Emilia; I didn't mean to throw the water on you.” She fell to her knees and began to plead. But this was not my problem. The water was no longer too hot, so it didn't amount to any injury, just that parts of my shorts were wet and the ointment washed off completely from my leg.My main concern was where my phone was beeping earlier. I was sure it came from her direction, but why would Ivy have my phone to herself without giving it back?“Please forgive me, Luna Emilia; I will apply the ointment again." She continued to plead.“I know, Ivy; you didn't do it intentionally. You can now stand de…" I didn't finish the sentence when the phone beeped again and I grabbed Ivy by the wrist.“My phone, where are you hiding it? It beeped now and in your body. " I yelled, but her next reaction was even more shocking.Ivy freed her hand
~Emilia~Luckily, I met Ivy almost immediately after I left Adrian's room as she helped me walk back to my room. She was deeply sorry for what happened and said she was coming back to treat the wounds.Telling lies isn't just worth it. I have gotten myself into terrible pain because I have lied this whole time, and now it's time to face the consequences of my actions.I lay flat on the bed, waiting for Ivy and thinking about what happened in Adrian's room.My cheek burned in excitement when I remembered the way he carried me from the floor to his big comfy bed.The way he looked at me when he saw me trying to open his dresser.I must say, Adrian knows exactly what suits him well. The tattoo on his chest suited him perfectly, as did the earrings and the way his hair was always styled.I began to wonder if he was really a human or maybe a lost god.He must be among the angels sent to save the world but refused to return when he finished with his own assignment. He looked too beautiful t
~Ava~Nyxaraia's laughter echoed round the room as the papers burned. She stared at me and didn't stop laughing; she even made the laughter louder when our eyes locked.I clenched my fist in frustration, suppressing the anger that was crawling up my spine. Nyx has pushed me to the wall, and if I didn't punch her right now in the face, my body wouldn't be at rest.“Watch them burn, Grayson." Her laugh echoed louder as she slid the lighter into her pocket and began to clap. She stopped clapping and stomped out the fire on the money with the sole of her shoe and then spat on it severely. She watched the smoke evaporate into the air before she cleared her throat and walked over to where the half-burnt paper lay on the floor, dropped to her knees, and picked it up.She scooped every piece of the ashes into her palms and walked back to where I stood."Here, Ava.” She smiled and grabbed my wrist, opened my palm, and stuffed the money into it.“Here is your money, Ava. And this…" She grabbed
~Emilia~Ivy jolted, seeing me on the door.I didn't walk into the room immediately.I still stood at the door, shocked to find her in my room. She turned fully towards the door.“Luna Emilia." She muttered with a sly smile and then lowered her head.I took a few steps into the room, using my eyes
~Adrian~“I will say everything I know.” he forcefully repeated the words again and wanted to wriggle out of my grip but I held him tighter.“If you try not to spill all you know….” I paused and let out a small dry laugh.“I won't try to kill you. You will suffer gradually until you beg for your ow
~Ava~I walked in to see my father sorting files on his desk.He looked up immediately; his door creaked open and gave me a warm smile. “Ava." He called, still smiling. My father never hid his love for me any day. He made it clear I was his precious daughter who was going to inherit everything th
~Ava~I don't know if Nyx intentionally refused to pick my calls or she didn't see the call. I just dialed her line for the fifth time, and she didn't pick up.I was about to give up on her when she sent a text. [I will call you in an hour or two. I can't pick up now.] I read the message aloud a
