Thora’s POV

The papers were filed on a Thursday. By Friday afternoon, Quentin had already struck back.

I should have known it would be fast. That’s who he was. He didn’t take hits and stay down. He came up swinging harder.

But knowing that didn’t make it easier when it actually happened.

It started with the phone call.

I was in the middle of trying to coax Avis into her school shoes when my lawyer’s number lit up my phone. My stomach clenched.

“Thora, are you sitting down?” she asked.

I laughed

MAYA'S POVHe wasn't willing to speak.I had no idea how Charles made him feel but it definitely wasn't good. It couldn't just be about the money he was offered. There was fright on his face…..like one that had been threatened.“Is there anything you are not telling me, Reynolds? If there is, you should speak now, before we inform the others about this.”“You know Luke and Quentin are all over me already to give them an update on my recent findings…”“You can simply tell them you have nothing. Would you be beheaded for that? After all, it wasn't our mess to start with!" He said in a loud tone.“Reynolds, are you going to take me to this person alone or should I involve the others? You and I know Thora won't be happy if she heard about this..”He went mute for a while.“He has ties everywhere. He can't be easily taken down. I don't think you understand. Whatever he did, he had every board signatory to it without them realizing it to the fullest…”“So what are you insinuating?”“You kno

MAYA'S POV“I’m damn sure of what I am saying….”I spoke with so much certainty. I realized how unbelievable it could be but worse things happen just when we are not paying attention.“If that be the case…you know very much…old letters aren't enough to use against him as an evidence…”“Not concrete enough!”Luke was right. For such a clever person, we need more than just mere documents to attack him in court.I paused…..“We need human evidence,” I said, after so much thought.“Human evidence? How are we supposed to get that? All we have is vague evidence and right now, he knows we are definitely unto him so we have to be smarter and faster ....” the voice of Luke Palmer rang in my earsI needed to prove him wrong. I can't help.Thora gets the peace she deserves. All that woman is a complete break from all of this. She has been through a lot already.“He isn't all that. I just need to find something concrete and we would have him by the balls ....”I had never been this invested in get

QUENTIN'S POVWhy am I finding this hard to believe?Uncle Charles can't be behind this. He has been with me all my life. His support was like no other. Sometimes, he would make me feel like he is filling up the place of my late father. But that is only right of him to do. He was the closest I have to family.I wouldn't have been able to run Palmer Holdings smoothly without his help.“It just can't be. Uncle Charles isn't the one they are looking for. Maybe this is all a setup and Luke is just so blind to see it..”But the letters tell a different story. He possibly knows something I don't know.“Coukd the letters be fake? Oh No, that's not possible. That is Dad's handwriting.”“Luke couldn't do such just to make me turn against Uncle Charles…”I sat and drifted into thinking.I still remember those days like it was yesterday.Bringing Uncle Charles into the board was something I was excited to have announced.“I’m making you a signatory to the other account, Uncle Charles. You have

THORA'S POVI fidgeted.Staring at the man as he walked out of this house. It was scary. How many more of the Palmers do I have to face before I get my peace? He got to the doorpost and turned back, giving me a really awkward stare that almost pushed me to the ground. The minute he left, I let out a heavy sigh and rushed to lock the door.“Mommy….” The voice of Avis startled me from behind.A heavy breath, “Oooh….Avis, you are up? How long have you been there?”“I just woke up, Mommy….is everything alright? Was that Luke at the door?” She asked.“No ... .Just one of mommy's guests. Go back to your room, dear,” I uttered. She just reminded me of how agitated I should be towards Luke. How could he allow such?I can't believe I just got an unfriendly visit from his covetous Uncle in the middle of the day!!This had to be the worst of days. That last time I had such a visit was years before I met Quentin. My ex-boyfriend, Paul. His mother was one hell of a woman and I was just the ‘under

THORA'S POVNow I have developed moods. And it switches every single hour. It was as though I had multiple personalities battling for control. This has nothing to do with the case or what is happening with love life.It was the hormones, the doctor said. I was seven and half months into and now my hormones are just all over the place. My belly had become bigger but thanks to maternity gowns, I had been able to cover up nicely without drawing so much attention to myself.I sat right outside the house, my phone in my hands, and my mind drifting back and forth.“How did I get myself into this in the first place?”“Should I blame love or random fate?”I had a lot of things going on in my head. I have a child for Quentin and now I am about to have another for Luke. Was I going to be shared amongst the two brothers or what exactly is going to happen to me?One is in prison, building up stories and accusations that are worsening the circumstances of my life, the other is out, trying to fight

Luke’s POVI had never been this indecisive my entire life. Was it the sympathy or the fact that I just wanted to do things right?Uncle Charles ought to be arrested for this but I guess a bunch of letters and assumptions cannot do just that.We had to find something concrete.“I’m gonna have to pay Uncle Charles a visit,” I uttered to Quentin who seemed to be lost in thoughts.“I don't think that's a good idea. You are only going to scare him off if really he is behind all of this….what is the other bitch saying?” He questioned.“What other bitch?”“The one with the woman you are trying to steal from me!”“Pffff….” I scoffed. He still had it in him and I wasn't less either but I was more keen on getting to the root of the matter than picking a fight with him.“If you mean Mara, then she is working on it already. With her leading, we could have a witness who might just be able to shed more light on this,” I said, hoping to get a reaction.“Can we trust her as well?” He asked.I smirke

Thora’s POVI was standing in the hallway and was not moving and the note that was in my hand felt like biting me.The building was quiet. Too quiet. No footsteps. No elevator hum. No door bang bang bang bang.Nothing but the faint hum of the fluorescent light above and my heart, beating its way

Thora’s POVI did not remember the way I got to the car.I could not recall how my hand was held by Cara and she led me into the doors of the courthouse. Thora’s POVMonday morning felt too bright. It was the kind of brightness meant for peaceful breakfasts, for sunshine falling softly across a balcony—not for an emergency hearing and lawyers handing you paper bags to breathe into.I woke up before my alarm. Cara’s POVWhen the office was emptied it was near the middle of the night. The copy machine had now died down to a hum and the only sounds that remained were the ticking of the wall clock and the humming low hiss of the city beyond.
