LOGINKIARA'S POV
If anyone had told me there would be a day I would run so hard for my life, from the place I call home I would have run a sharp blade through their gut.
“Stop her..”
I couldn't hear her voice from behind me, desperate and shameless.
She fucking killed my mother.
The sky began to darker and the sudden rain drop began with that infinite thunder that only Seraphine could cast still I hadn't reached the gate.
Spells cracked through the air behind me bright and vicious, splitting the dark in blue and white bursts. One clipped the ground three inches from my left foot and I felt the heat of it through my bare sole.
Keep moving. Keep moving. Keep….
Flash.
Smoke. Black and thick. Her voice is somewhere inside it.
I blinked it away and kept running anyway, the ground was wet beneath my feet, grass giving way to mud giving way to stone, the terrain shifting faster than I could track it.
Not until I was out and running through the wrong places….ciff. that was a cliff gated to nowhere but death….
I stopped just to stumble and lost my balance.
Spells against gravity were useless, my heart beating so hard, tears dripping, my mind going blank, all I wanted to see now was “mama.”
Her face. Her eyes steady and open even as everything came down.
My hands were on the locked door that day…I had tried…..I had tried to save mama from the burning fire. .
She was already gone. She was already….
My back collided with a sharp pointed rock ....”Arghh….” My bones rattled, I felt my spine break in half…as my body kept on rolling down the hills that used to be covered in clouds.
I grabbed for something, anything….my nails tearing, spells firing uselessly into the dark.
Until all I saw was void and complete darkness.
“Mama!”
The word tore out of my throat before I could stop it, the fire was everywhere, walls, ceiling, floor… the fire erupting through the whole building.
Around me witches were running, pouring out of every exit, casting spells and flying through the smoke thick air in a burst of desperation.
But I couldn't see her.
I couldn't see my mother.
I ran toward the building.
I could hear voices…screaming my name from behind me, yelling and casting spells to pull me back, but the moon goddess and the witches forbid I let my mother die.
The smoke hit me the moment I crossed the threshold. Thick and black and suffocating, filling my lungs faster than any spell could clear it. My eyes burned. My chest seized. I pushed through anyway, casting blindly, following the sound of her voice somewhere deeper in the collapsing dark.
I found her in the back room.
Crawling helplessly on the ground.
"Mama…." My voice broke. I dropped to my knees beside her, hands already reaching, already pulling. Her eyes found mine through the smoke and what I saw in them made my chest tightened.
"Kiara." Her voice was barely sound. "Go. The building is going to…."
"I'm not leaving you."
"You have to…"
"I said I'm not leaving." I got my hands under her arms, started pulling. Above us something groaned the ceiling, the beams, everything holding the structure together giving its final warning. "Hold on to me. Just hold on…"
The fan overhead collapsed.
She shoved me. Both hands, every ounce of strength she had left, pushing me backward and away.
“Go….” she said. Or maybe she didn't say it at all. Maybe I only felt it, in the press of her palms, in the way her eyes stayed open and steady even as the ceiling came down between us.
“Mama!!”
Beep beep beep.
I opened my eyes to be faced with the plain white ceiling. My chest is still doing it.
Everything seems unfamiliar for a moment.
Not the particular cold damp of Volkron mornings at all.
A thin tube taped to the back of my left hand running up to a clear bag hanging beside the bed.
I stared at it.
What? It's in my arm.
I tried to sit up but my bones…. blinking against the light, taking inventory.
Hospital gown. Both legs are present. No veil, obviously, because apparently world had no concept of privacy.
I mean who saw my butt bare?
A monitor beside the bed making a steady, indifferent sound.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
I looked at the tube in my hand again.
My magic reached for it automatically , that instinctive witch reflex, classify the unknown and came back sluggish and slow.
That was new. That was not good.
The door opened.
"Oh thank the universe you're awake…"
Chloe hit me like a small hurricane. Both arms around my shoulders, face buried in my neck, squeezing hard enough that the monitor beside me beeped in mild alarm.
"Chloe!"
"Don't." Her voice cracked. "Don't say anything yet just, just give me a second."
I gave her a second.
She pulled back. Her eyes were red. It had been red for a while by the look of it.
She grabbed my face in both hands and looked at me like she was checking for damage.
"You absolute idiot," she whispered.
"Good morning to you too."
"It is not morning." She released my face and sat down hard in the chair beside the bed. "It's 4PM on a Thursday."
"Thursday." I looked out the window. Grey sky. Rain. "I fell on a…." I stopped. "What Thursday."
Chloe looked at me.
"Chloe."
"You've been unconscious for almost four months, Kiara."
The monitor kept beeping.
“Can this shit shut up?”
“Not kidding kaira, what happened?
‘Four months.’
"That's not…." I stopped."That's not possible. I fell last night, I was running and the cliff and the storm ...."
"Four months."
"I've been here every day. The doctors couldn't explain it. You weren't in a coma exactly, your brain activity was all over the place, like you were somewhere else entirely. They were talking about transferring you to a specialist in…" She stopped. Pressed her lips together. "It doesn't matter now. You're awake."
I looked at my hands. The scrapes were healed. Skin smooth where the cliff face had torn it open.
Four months.
"The babies are healthy by the way."
"The…." The word didn't come out right. I tried again. "What?"
Chloe reached over and very carefully pulled the edge of my hospital gown to the side.
I looked down.
The swell was real.
My ears were ringing.
The oath. The coven oath. Whatever you give birth to belongs to Volkron.
Whatever you give birth to..
"Twins,"
"Both healthy. The doctors are baffled because apparently your…… and I am quoting here… ‘cellular regeneration is unlike anything they've seen in medical history’ which, yes, I know, but I've been smiling and nodding for four months now."
“This can't be true?”
“Apparently it is, did you sleep with him that night?”
CHLOE'S POVThe moment I heard the alarm bells echo through the pack, my heart nearly stopped.Warriors were running in every direction.Women hurried children indoors. The gates were being reinforced.Something had happened.I grabbed the arm of a passing warrior."What's going on?""The Coven."He didn't stop running."They're outside our borders."The color drained from my face."No..."I whispered."No... what are you doing, Seraphine?"I hurried toward one of the watchtowers overlooking the pack borders. The moment I reached the top, my breath caught.Hundreds...No.Thousands of witches stood beyond the forest.Completely surrounding the territory. At their head...Seraphine.She stood as calm as ever, staring directly toward the Alpha's house.I clenched my fists."This wasn't the plan."She couldn't attack now.Not now.Not while Rowan's mark had only begun awakening. Not while I was still inside the pack.If war started now, everything we had spent years planning could be destroyed
KIARA'S POVI couldn't stop thinking about the portrait.Even after Kael led me back to our room.Even after he searched every hallway, every empty room, and every hidden corner of the pack house. He found nothing….No secret passage….No footprints….No signs that anyone had been there. But I knew what I had seen.It wasn't another vision. It wasn't a dream. It was real.It had to be.The moment we entered our bedroom, my eyes immediately searched for Rowan. He was still asleep beside Ryder. His tiny chest rose and fell gently. The mark on his back had faded slightly, but it was still there.Watching him brought a little relief to my heart.Just a little.Kael closed the bedroom door behind us."You shouldn't be walking around alone."His voice wasn't angry this time.Only tired."I know.""You scared me."I looked at him."I'm sorry."He sighed and wrapped an arm around my shoulders."You've apologized enough tonight."I leaned my head against him."I really did hear someone.""I know you be
KIARA'S POVThat night, no one slept.Kael refused to leave Rowan's side.I refused to leave either. The room was illuminated only by the soft glow of the fireplace, casting long shadows across the walls. Ryder slept peacefully in his crib while Rowan rested in my arms, his tiny breathing uneven but steady enough to ease my heart, if only a little.Kael stood by the window, his arms folded tightly across his chest, staring into the darkness outside.Neither of us spoke. There were simply no words left.Every few minutes, my eyes drifted to Rowan's back. The mark was still there.Dark….Unnatural….Waiting."What if she was right?" I whispered.Kael turned to look at me."Who?""Seraphine."His jaw tightened immediately."I don't care what that woman said.""What if she was telling the truth?""She won't get our sons.""You don't know that.""I do."His voice was firm."I'll die before I let anyone touch them."The room fell silent again.Then...A knock echoed against the bedroom door.Three
KAEL'S POVThe moment Kiara and I stepped into our room, all the warmth from our conversation disappeared.Rowan was crying again…Not loudly…Weakly….Painfully.The sound was enough to make both of us rush toward the crib.Olivia was already standing beside him, gently rocking him in her arms while the witch doctor knelt nearby with several herbs and small bowls spread across the floor. The old woman's face looked grim.Very grim. The second Kiara saw Rowan, she hurried over and carefully took him from Olivia."My baby," she whispered as tears filled her eyes again. "Mommy's here."Rowan's tiny fingers curled around hers. His crying softened. But it didn't stop….It never truly stopped.I walked over to Ryder's crib.Unlike his brother, Ryder was sleeping peacefully. His little chest rose and fell steadily.Healthy….Strong.Seeing one son perfectly fine while the other grew weaker by the hour was torture.I turned toward the witch doctor."You said the mark changed."She nodded."It has.
KIARA'S POVBy the time I returned to the pack house, the entire place was in chaos.Warriors were running across the courtyard.Voices echoed through the halls. The moment I stepped through the front doors, every conversation stopped.Dozens of eyes turned toward me.Relief washed over their faces. Then fear.Because they all knew exactly where I had been.Olivia was the first to reach me.Without saying a word, she wrapped her arms around me."Oh, thank the Moon Goddess," she whispered shakily. "You're safe."I frowned."What happened?"She pulled away, tears shining in her eyes."What happened?" she repeated. "Kiara, you've been gone for hours!"My heart sank."I—"Before I could finish, a deep voice thundered through the hallway."Kiara."I slowly turned.Kael.He stood at the end of the corridor. His clothes were covered in dirt, his hair was disheveled, and his breathing was heavy. It looked like he had searched every corner of the forest. His golden eyes locked onto mine. For a momen
KIARA'S POVI couldn't sit and wait anymore. Not after what happened to Rowan. Not after seeing that mark burned into my son's tiny back.Every second I stayed inside the pack house, wondering what the Coven was planning next, felt like another second I was failing as a mother.Kael had doubled the guards around the pack. The witch doctor hadn't left Rowan's side.Olivia barely slept.Everyone was preparing for an attack. But I wasn't.I was done waiting for one.Just before dawn, I quietly slipped out of bed. Kael was finally asleep after spending the entire night beside Rowan's crib. His hand was still resting protectively on our son's blanket, as though even in his sleep he refused to let him go.My heart broke at the sight.I leaned down and kissed Kael's forehead."I'm sorry," I whispered. Then I kissed each of my boys."Mommy will be back."I wrapped a cloak around myself and quietly left the pack house before anyone noticed. The forest was cold and silent.Every step carried me farthe
"Chloe?" I yelled to her, rushing over quickly.Kael fell to the floor. "What happened?" I asked.'That coven happened? They attacked us with fireballs and lightning strikes. They got him good." I looked down at his wounds. He had already gone unconscious."Why can't he heal himself?" I asked her.
KIARA’S POVWe've been trying to access my hidden memories for days now. Every time we would get close, my mind would shut us out and I would end up unconscious for hours."I think we should take a break," Stefan said."I need to know oaky. What demons lurk behind my past that are so bad I locked t
KIARA’S POVI heard the cry of a baby and I ran toward it.They got louder and louder as I got closer. The trees seemed to get denser and the sky darker it felt like I was running forever. I got to a clearing and saw two babies laid down on the forest floor crying. I tried to go to them, but I co
KAEL’S POV After the meeting I had with the elders in the pack asking me to give them an heir that would pass the wolf legacy down I decided to leave the pack for some days to free my head. But still I couldn’t get her off my mind. It's been four months and just a one night stand. All I knew was t
