LOGINMy office was a freaking burning ozone.
It was hard for anyone to breathe in the tight air, thick with the smell of melted plastic and wires, mixed with the irritating sound of tiny wet firecrackers popping from different corners. Sparks burst out from computer systems and high-tech hardware, frying themselves into destruction.
Adding to my frustration, a low rumble kept vibrating in my chest.
"Let me out, Reis!" Keal, my wolf, growled.
Another spark shot from the corner of the room. Blue and white flickers jumped between two pieces of metal like tiny jagged lightning bolts, and an iron rod melted into a disgusting black liquid right before my eyes.
"Get it together, Keal. We are both suffering from this pain," I scolded.
In response, a sharp pain tore through me. The office lights flickered violently, and the room trembled as computers threatened to fall off their desks.
Keal was throwing these tantrums because the blood moon was approaching.
This was usually a time of freedom for wolves. They shifted, took full control, and ran wild to release everything building inside them.
But not Keal.
He was trapped inside me, all thanks to a generational curse the Moon Goddess had placed on my bloodline.
Aside from being one of the strongest packs in history, the Tartarus Pack’s alpha descendants were known for two things, never finding a mate and never shifting into their wolf.
And it wasn’t a peaceful fate.
It wasn’t just death. It was a gut-wrenching, excruciating pain that returned every full moon and blood moon, especially the blood moon. It was the kind of pain that made me understand what these burning systems felt like. My bones felt like they were being fried from the inside, like I was being torn apart slowly.
It felt like lifting a thousand pounds with each arm, every second stretching longer than the last.
The pain I went through every full and blood moon would crush anyone into dust. But I wasn’t just anyone. I was Alpha Reis Throne. I was practically indestructible. But until I find my god-damn fated mate, I would suffer this pain from the blood moon till death.
"Alpha, you're not getting any younger. If you can't find your fated mate, you can choose one and produce an heir, so the Tartarus Pack will have a future leader to look up to," one of the pack elders I was having an online meeting with suggested. The other elders on the call nodded in agreement.
I could never escape this damned topic. It was how my generation survived. The Moon Goddess had made finding our fated mates nearly impossible. At this point, I didn’t believe they even existed.
I mean, who would give a true mate to an usurper?
The room suddenly turned blue, and a siren blared and the call automatically disconnected.
*Unauthorized party accessed. Tighten security*. The monitor alarm echoed through the office.
Shit.
This always happened every year. When the blood moon approached, rival packs used it as an opportunity to attack, knowing I wouldn’t be at my strongest.
"Vane!" I barked.
In a matter of seconds, my beta was already in front of me. He was almost as tall and as jacked as I was, dressed in an ash-colored suit, his hair pulled into a short ponytail. A claw-like scar ran across his left eye.
"Inform the technologists. The rivals are trying to bypass the firewalls. Tell them to activate extra security mode," I ordered.
"Yes, Alpha," he nodded, leaving immediately to carry out my command.
I walked toward the giant monitor in the center of the office, tapping on the virtual keys to work as quickly as I could, when Keal struck again.
The pain was sharp and vicious this time. It felt like he had sunk his claws deep into my stomach and twisted, like he was trying to rip his way out from inside me.
Angrily, I connected my fist to the wide screen in front of me, disabling it instantly.
The room shook harder this time. The lights flickered repeatedly, and several systems sparked violently.
Alert! Alert! Software and hardware compromised!
The system alarm blared as every monitor in the office was suddenly covered with a red, triangle-shaped warning sign.
"Are you happy now, Keal?" I yelled at my wolf.
I didn’t know why he was extra moody today, but he had just successfully taken down the main security system protecting the Tartarus Pack from rivals.
I was furious, and even more furious that I couldn’t take it out on Keal.
"Vane!" I barked once again, marching out of my office.
With every step I took, wolves were pushed aside like an invisible force surrounded me, like I carried some kind of external pressure.
"Yes, Alpha!" Vane was in front of me.
"Our main security system just got fried. Rival packs could be here any second. I need outside security tightened immediately. And whoever is fixing the software; tell them I need that system up now!" I barked, my voice sharp with anger.
Vane understood. He didn’t question me, didn’t even look fazed. He simply nodded and left to carry out my orders.
But I couldn’t wait, not even for a second. My body moved at hyper speed, and in the next moment, I found myself somewhere I've never been before, since the ruling of this pack.
The omegas’ workspace.
A growl rumbled deep in my chest again.
"She’s here," Keal growled impatiently.
Before I could process what me meant, the door burst open violently, tearing off its hinges and crashing against the wall, glass shattering in the process but I didn’t care.
Something had pulled me here. Something strong… something I couldn’t explain.
Everyone dropped to their knees, trembling, as expected. Who wouldn’t fear a warlord like me?
But I thought too soon, because someone sure as hell wasn’t afraid. I should be mad at the young woman, still on her feet like she my graceful presence meant nothing to her, but the moment my gaze landed on her, a strange rush washed over me.
The young lady was dressed in a worn-out PPE suit, her hair messy, goggles resting over her eyes. Still, they didn’t hide the soft blue of her gaze. She held a micro-soldering tool, looking completely confused.
She was supposed to look like a mess. But instead… she looked like a damsel in distress.
Something electric surged through my bloodstream. My vision shifted from brown fading into a glowing gold. My canines extended, and my nails lengthened into sharp claws.
And as we engaged in the intense staring contest, I felt something no one in my bloodline had ever felt before.
I didn’t know this woman but something dark and possessive rose inside me, urging me to pull her close to me, rip off her clothes and claim her… right there, right now.
If I wasn't battling a never-ending internal pain, I would have gotten to the Silent Blood Pack earlier than this. Physically, I'm not in good shape. Anyone with two working eyes could see that I could barely stand properly without holding onto the bar gates. But whenever I think about my Lila and how she was in the arms of a bastard, my energy spikes from zero to a hundred percent. The next thing I know, I'm ripping the giant gate of the Silent Blood Pack off its hinges."I need to see my Lila. Get out of my way," I whispered at the men, their teeth bared in snarls as they shifted into their half-wolf forms, ready to attack me.They came after me, and with a wave of my hand, they flew backward from an external force. I don't have the time to engage in any bloody fight. All I want is to see my Lila right now.My legs felt like heavy rods with every step I took. I could finally smell her sweet rain scent, the one that always gave me peace, and I just couldn't wait to see her and take h
After I was completely dolled up from head to toe, I sat alone on the bed, bracing myself for the next event. Every now and then, I glanced at the window, praying for darkness to take a little longer to arrive. I wasn't ready for whatever was about to happen, and if there was a way I could reach Reis, I'd tell him not to bother coming. I'd tell him to forget about me, to abandon me like he did on our wedding night."Sissy, what is going to happen tonight?"Marcy was sitting on the floor in her part of the room, staring at me with the most curious expression I'd ever seen on her face.Every now and then, one or two people marched in and said something like, *Alpha Cillian wants you to do this tonight. Alpha Cillian wants you to do that tonight.* And every single time, Marcy listened."It's nothing." I shook my head, forcing a smile. "It's going to be okay.""Sissy, you know you don't have to lie to me anymore. I know you think I'm still a kid, but I'm a smart kid. I know nothing is goi
Blood running.Danger. Tension. Closer. Closer...I jolted awake by some unknown force, finding myself panting heavily. Instantly, Alpha Cillian's voice rang in my head. He wanted me to kill Reis with an intimidating blade infused with all the poison in the world, and then he wanted to mark me and make me his Luna.He said I was Reis' fated mate, the only one who could break his curse. And I couldn't help but wonder if Reis married me because I was his fated mate and he wanted to break the curse. But then Cillian pointed out that the Alpha must mark the Luna first, and Reis made no effort to mark me. Instead, he resisted quite a lot, even when I willingly gave myself to him.I'm not sure how long I'd been blacked out, but when my eyes finally opened, I found myself back in the historical building Alpha Cillian had introduced me to earlier. My head throbbed. Carefully pulling the duvet off my body, I climbed down from the king-sized bed. The room was so vast it creeped me out."Sisi."
I have never felt this weak in all my years of living. I've been in bed for goddess knows how long. I'm not sure if my damn legs even work anymore. Another sudden pain struck me, forcing me to grip the white bedsheet tighter. My chest rose and fell heavily, the faint warning of the torture I was about to receive tonight striking me like flashes of lightning. The pack weather forecasters predicted the blood moon would rise tonight. I haven't fully recovered, and I wasn't sure how I would cope with the torture it would bring.Deep down, I know I'm doing this to myself. I'm locked up here, suffering and hiding from the only woman who could anchor us; me and Keal.A few minutes from now, Rhodes and Vane are going to arrive and attempt to lock me in the obsidian chamber, so I'm just lying in bed, feeling as useless as I can while I wait for them to come pick me up.My ears automatically twitched as I sensed Vane's approaching presence, but this time it carried tension. I waited for seconds
"Welcome to my den, Lila." Alpha Cillian, standing in front of me, spread his arms wide toward the old-fashioned-looking penthouse before us. "It's not as impressive as the Tartarus Pack Alpha's penthouse because this one has history," he said with a smile."I'll give you a house tour after we have some tea. Come on in." He stepped aside, motioning for me to move forward. "Ladies first."Comply with him, Lila. He has your sister, remember.I told myself, plastering a fake smile on my face and forcing myself to step inside the historical building. The place looked like something he had inherited straight from his ancestors, and no renovations had been done since. The vibe of the den was seriously creeping me out. Eccentric paintings hung on the walls, and the hallway was lit by fancy candles mounted along them. I followed him carefully, not missing a single step.I didn't trust this place one bit. A trap room could be hiding somewhere, and you wouldn't even know until you fell into it.
The woman looked nothing like Zoey. She didn't have that sweet, angelic smile that could wash away your problems. In fact, I wasn't even sure she knew how to smile at this point. She looked strict, strong, and with a slight touch of creepy."Sissy... what's happening to Zoey?" Marcy asked fearfully beside me.I gripped my sister as tightly as I could, slightly hiding her behind me. I wanted to tell her it was going to be okay, but I didn't even know how to convince myself of that.Forcing a lump down my throat, I finally opened my mouth."Zoey? What's going on, and why are we here?"The woman slowly turned her head toward me as though I were some stranger."No Zoey," was all she told me."Why did you bring us here?" My question came out as a demand, and I tightened my grip on Marcy.I could easily turn back to the exit and try to run, but there were sentinels guarding it behind me. There were also some by my sides and others in front of me. I was surrounded, and Zoey... or whoever in
The short trip to London to attend the Global Festive Run felt like the longest year of my life. Before now, it had usually been a calm period for me. I've never been this restless, and Keal has never been this worked up. The funny thing was that this restlessness wasn't because we were worried abo
I've been at the Tartarus Pack company many times, but today felt like I was coming in for the first time. It was the first time I was going to the company in a fast car, my face covered in makeup, my hair all done, and dressed like one of the Alpha's bimbos. My fingers tightened against the side w
“This is my Lila. I want you to transform her into a queen,” Reis spoke to the group of women dressed in matching uniforms, all standing in a horizontal line. “Take her and wash her thoroughly. Apply some good makeup on her face. I want her to look stunning.”“Yes, Alpha,” the women said in unison
For thirty-one years of my life, the night of the blood moon had always been a whirlwind of screaming nerves, endless gut-wrenching pain, and the loud roars of the wolf crying inside me. But last night was different. I've never experienced that kind of calm in the storm before. I've never felt so f
