LOGINThe special fur cloth was useless against the furnace-like heat of this chamber.
A few seconds ago, I was terrified, thinking I was going to freeze to death, and now I feared I would not just burn but melt to death. If you asked me to choose my fate, I'd choose freezing to death every single time.
Not like I wanted to die but staying outside was much more better than being inside this burning hell hole.
The room was dim, touched with a faint shade of red from the blood moon shining through the glass window. The place smelt of explosives, burnt wires, and tires. My legs were already starting to burn, and I wasn't sure how I was supposed to stand in one place for too long.
Look straight ahead, you're going to see a giant black air conditioner. That is the cooling system.
I recalled Rhodes' voice, but I could barely concentrate with the sight before me.
The bloody Alpha was chained to the floor like a caged animal. He looked very different from the warlord in a suit. He was sweating profusely and shaking like he'd just been struck by a thousand bolts of electricity. A second later, he jolted upright with an ear-piercing groan. Thick veins stretched from his chest to his head like they wanted to tear him apart.
Shivers ran down my spine. I haven't seen something like this in my years of existence before.
Look away, Lila. Look away, I told myself. Just do what you were sent to do, fix the system, and run out of this place before the fur completely loses its purpose and you melt to death.
But I couldn't stop staring at him. I felt my eyes sting with tears. No one deserved to go through this kind of pain.
He tried to crawl, like he wanted to get away from the torture, but another loud scream ripped from his mouth. His body flexed painfully, and I could see smoke pulling from every corner of the floor.
Each scream from Reis made the systems in the chamber spark and fry themselves to bits.
As though he could feel my presence, he suddenly snapped his head up to stare at me. His eyes were bloodshot red, his fangs longer than the ones I normally saw, and he looked very different. Vulnerable, yet still staring at me like I was his prey.
I was terrified of this man, but the pity I felt for his situation was enough to override the fear. The wolves were having the time of their lives in the den while he was down here receiving the kind of torture that could raze the entire Tartarus Pack to the ground in the blink of an eye.
I forced myself to pull my eyes away from his. If I wanted to help him, I had to work as fast as I could on fixing the cooling system. I began approaching the gigantic air conditioner when a strong force suddenly yanked me backward, and before I knew it, I was in the arms of the burning Alpha.
My eyes squeezed shut tight, expecting my body to start melting or my head to disconnect from my body at any second, but nothing happened. Something was strange. I just couldn't place it.
Slowly, I opened my eyes. Reis was holding me tightly, but he wasn't growling or burning. It was like I had sucked the pain out of every pore in his body.
To be clear, I touched him and confirmed that, somehow, I could actually touch him.
"Don't let go," he whispered, his lips quivering as he held me tighter. "Stay with me... please."
He was begging. The bloody Alpha, who never asked before taking lives, was begging me to stay with him.
I was so confused about what was happening, but I did as he asked and held on to him, brushing my fingers through his soft hair. It was the same way I used to put Marcy to sleep or calm her whenever she was in a bad mood. Somehow, my touch was calming Reis. His breathing relaxed with every passing second.
"Don't go," he kept pleading.
"I'm here, okay? I'm not going anywhere," I assured him.
The chamber had changed from lava-like heat to a lukewarm temperature. I heard the transformer power down, and the loud screeching sound of the gate opening followed shortly after by footsteps. I knew they belonged to Vane and Rhodes.
"Shh. It wasn't easy getting him to sleep. I don't think you'd want him waking up," I whispered softly as Vane approached closer, staring at me like he couldn't believe his eyes.
Rhodes had the same expression on his face. "You're touching him," he mumbled, not even waiting for my reply before turning to Vane. "Can you see this, Vane? She's touching him."
Vane ignored him. He kept staring between me and Reis, too stunned to speak. He was trying to process how a burning Alpha could touch me, an ordinary wolfless omega. Even I was surprised. I didn't know if I should feel proud or terrified that an extraordinary Alpha as powerful as Reis might finally noticed me.
Come to think of it, this was nothing to feel proud about. I was supposed to be invisible. If Reis set his eyes on me, then it was certain I wouldn't be able to keep my longest-hidden secret anymore; that I was a null pretending to be a wolf. And what was worse than being a nobody in the Tartarus Pack was staying here illegally.
I wasn't just putting myself in danger, I was also putting my family in danger. It didn't matter that Reis was sleeping harmlessly in my arms like a baby. I knew for a fact that once the blood moon night was over, this bloody Alpha would go back to being the same bloody Alpha who killed without batting an eyelash.
Even if he didn't harm me, there was no certainty that he wouldn't harm my family.
I stared at Vane with pleading eyes. "Please, let me go after this. I don't want him to remember what happened tonight... please," I pleaded.
The look on Vane's face told me I was wasting my pleas.
The pack had finally found the long-hidden cure for their cursed Alpha.
If I wasn't battling a never-ending internal pain, I would have gotten to the Silent Blood Pack earlier than this. Physically, I'm not in good shape. Anyone with two working eyes could see that I could barely stand properly without holding onto the bar gates. But whenever I think about my Lila and how she was in the arms of a bastard, my energy spikes from zero to a hundred percent. The next thing I know, I'm ripping the giant gate of the Silent Blood Pack off its hinges."I need to see my Lila. Get out of my way," I whispered at the men, their teeth bared in snarls as they shifted into their half-wolf forms, ready to attack me.They came after me, and with a wave of my hand, they flew backward from an external force. I don't have the time to engage in any bloody fight. All I want is to see my Lila right now.My legs felt like heavy rods with every step I took. I could finally smell her sweet rain scent, the one that always gave me peace, and I just couldn't wait to see her and take h
After I was completely dolled up from head to toe, I sat alone on the bed, bracing myself for the next event. Every now and then, I glanced at the window, praying for darkness to take a little longer to arrive. I wasn't ready for whatever was about to happen, and if there was a way I could reach Reis, I'd tell him not to bother coming. I'd tell him to forget about me, to abandon me like he did on our wedding night."Sissy, what is going to happen tonight?"Marcy was sitting on the floor in her part of the room, staring at me with the most curious expression I'd ever seen on her face.Every now and then, one or two people marched in and said something like, *Alpha Cillian wants you to do this tonight. Alpha Cillian wants you to do that tonight.* And every single time, Marcy listened."It's nothing." I shook my head, forcing a smile. "It's going to be okay.""Sissy, you know you don't have to lie to me anymore. I know you think I'm still a kid, but I'm a smart kid. I know nothing is goi
Blood running.Danger. Tension. Closer. Closer...I jolted awake by some unknown force, finding myself panting heavily. Instantly, Alpha Cillian's voice rang in my head. He wanted me to kill Reis with an intimidating blade infused with all the poison in the world, and then he wanted to mark me and make me his Luna.He said I was Reis' fated mate, the only one who could break his curse. And I couldn't help but wonder if Reis married me because I was his fated mate and he wanted to break the curse. But then Cillian pointed out that the Alpha must mark the Luna first, and Reis made no effort to mark me. Instead, he resisted quite a lot, even when I willingly gave myself to him.I'm not sure how long I'd been blacked out, but when my eyes finally opened, I found myself back in the historical building Alpha Cillian had introduced me to earlier. My head throbbed. Carefully pulling the duvet off my body, I climbed down from the king-sized bed. The room was so vast it creeped me out."Sisi."
I have never felt this weak in all my years of living. I've been in bed for goddess knows how long. I'm not sure if my damn legs even work anymore. Another sudden pain struck me, forcing me to grip the white bedsheet tighter. My chest rose and fell heavily, the faint warning of the torture I was about to receive tonight striking me like flashes of lightning. The pack weather forecasters predicted the blood moon would rise tonight. I haven't fully recovered, and I wasn't sure how I would cope with the torture it would bring.Deep down, I know I'm doing this to myself. I'm locked up here, suffering and hiding from the only woman who could anchor us; me and Keal.A few minutes from now, Rhodes and Vane are going to arrive and attempt to lock me in the obsidian chamber, so I'm just lying in bed, feeling as useless as I can while I wait for them to come pick me up.My ears automatically twitched as I sensed Vane's approaching presence, but this time it carried tension. I waited for seconds
"Welcome to my den, Lila." Alpha Cillian, standing in front of me, spread his arms wide toward the old-fashioned-looking penthouse before us. "It's not as impressive as the Tartarus Pack Alpha's penthouse because this one has history," he said with a smile."I'll give you a house tour after we have some tea. Come on in." He stepped aside, motioning for me to move forward. "Ladies first."Comply with him, Lila. He has your sister, remember.I told myself, plastering a fake smile on my face and forcing myself to step inside the historical building. The place looked like something he had inherited straight from his ancestors, and no renovations had been done since. The vibe of the den was seriously creeping me out. Eccentric paintings hung on the walls, and the hallway was lit by fancy candles mounted along them. I followed him carefully, not missing a single step.I didn't trust this place one bit. A trap room could be hiding somewhere, and you wouldn't even know until you fell into it.
The woman looked nothing like Zoey. She didn't have that sweet, angelic smile that could wash away your problems. In fact, I wasn't even sure she knew how to smile at this point. She looked strict, strong, and with a slight touch of creepy."Sissy... what's happening to Zoey?" Marcy asked fearfully beside me.I gripped my sister as tightly as I could, slightly hiding her behind me. I wanted to tell her it was going to be okay, but I didn't even know how to convince myself of that.Forcing a lump down my throat, I finally opened my mouth."Zoey? What's going on, and why are we here?"The woman slowly turned her head toward me as though I were some stranger."No Zoey," was all she told me."Why did you bring us here?" My question came out as a demand, and I tightened my grip on Marcy.I could easily turn back to the exit and try to run, but there were sentinels guarding it behind me. There were also some by my sides and others in front of me. I was surrounded, and Zoey... or whoever in
We finally arrived at the cage disguised as paradise and by that, I mean we had arrived at the Tartarus Pack. As we stepped down from the plane, a black SUV was already waiting across the street for us. Reis grabbed my hand and led me toward the car that was going to take us to his bloody den.A se
“Vile blood,” Rhode muttered, raising the cotton swab he used to take a sample from Malakai’s open wound.Rhodes had arrived in London earlier than expected when Reis requested him, but I was afraid his arrival was already too late for Malakai. Earlier, he had been groaning, but now he just lay sti
I never failed to get a front-row seat every time I got invited to the Global Festive Run, but today I felt more powerful and excited because I had my Lila sitting beside me. I tried my best to make sure she was comfortable, but still, she always tensed up each time she sat beside me, and I didn't
The next day, we began the journey for the festive run, just as Reis had said. Currently, we're sitting in the car, just me and the bloody Alpha, while another car followed behind where Malakai and Vane stayed together. My hands were cold as we almost arrived at the arena. I've seen it a lot on TV,
