MasukHunter’s POV
My eyelids were so heavy they felt glued shut, weighed down by sleep and something thicker, as if I was sinking in a warm fog. Slowly, I forced them open. The light in the room was soft, but still it made my eyes sting. It took a while for everything to come into focus: the scratch of the rough sheets under my hands, the low hum of someone breathing nearby, and a faint, sharp, herbal scent in the air.
As I turned my head, I saw Emily half lying on my arm and Jalen sleeping in the armchair. Two people in my life care for me.
Emily, I whispered. Her head snapped up, and she looked so cute with her hair all messed up.
Hunter, she jumped on my neck, kissing my cheek. I’m so happy you’re okay.
"What happened?" I asked.
You were poisoned. Emily glanced at the dart resting on the nightstand, worry etched in her face. "I recognized the toxin," she said softly. "Once I knew what it was, I made you drink something from that old diary to try and counter it." She paused, voice quivering. "Everyone thought you would die. While you were unconscious, Jalen fought Kaden. Your grandfather was crushed when he saw you. He locked himself in his room and left me here with you, hoping I could save you." Emily’s hands trembled as she reached for mine, the ordeal etched in her features.
I took a chance, Hunter. This is dangerous. I don’t know much about medicine, as I read from that diary.
"Come here, my brave mate, kiss me,"
That’s all you can think right now, she said, looking at me.
Thank you? I said and kissed me. We laughed, and Jalen woke up.
Don’t ever fucking do that again, he shouted, you took that shot for me. This pack needs you, Hunter. You can’t…then he stopped.
You’re my best friend, and how many times have you saved me?
Oh, so do you keep count? He joked. Get better. I sent the food for both of you. Then rest.
Beta Jalen, Emily said, thank you for believing in me. He nodded and left. Her head dropped on my chest.
I’m mad at you, Hunter. You can’t leave me. It’s scary. I’m human, alone in this pack. Sometimes I wake up in the night, and I forget where I am, and then I remember I’m surrounded by werewolves who could tear me apart if they changed their minds about me. No one here really trusts me except you, maybe Jalen. I try to act brave, but I feel so small here, so breakable. I know you think I’m strong, but I’m terrified. I need you to be careful. I need you to stay with me.
He chuckled. Is that the only reason?
Of course not, I like you too much… her cheeks go pink again.
Oh, you do? Please do tell, but then someone knocked on the door. She walked and got the tray of food.
Emily set the tray down and turned. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her on top of me. I need a kiss, Emily, I whispered.
Hunter, please, you're still recovering, then she kissed me as my arms tightened around her. Would I ever get enough of her? Nope.
She pulled away, and I sat up as she fixed the pillows behind me. Then, fed me the soup.
Now you were saying something about…
I don’t remember her feigning memory loss. But now you have to rest, your body is still fighting it. She took her pants off and got into bed under the covers. My hands wandered on her body because I had almost died, and I thought I would never touch her again.
Hunter, I promise that when you feel better, we will continue.
Fine, I closed my eyes while my hand played with her hair, and her scent wrapped around me. I slept.
Emily’s POV
As soon as he slept, I put my pants on and walked outside. Jalen looked at me, confused.
Go back. Emily is still not safe for you here.
I need more of these herbs to make the tea. Can you come with me? Please.
Okay, make it fast, I don’t want to die at Hunter’s hand. I dreamed of my death as a brave warrior.
I laughed. Sorry, I like your sense of humor. I can see why Hunter chose to trust you.
Emily, you do understand the situation. Maybe Hunter means well, but when it comes down to it, he is a werewolf.
Yes, thank you for being bluntly honest. I know what I got myself into. He saved me. There is no life for me out there. At least here, I know the rules. Among humans, there was always hunger, violence, and cruelty hiding behind smiles. After everything the virus had done, people turned on each other—trust was impossible; survival meant hurting someone else first. Humans may be worse than werewolves. Here, at least you all are honest about what you are.
Seems like the virus had a worse effect on them. Brainless.
You’re brave to be with him; the pack hates humans, and they tolerate them because they can breed. But by doing so, we become vulnerable to them. What I mean…
These women might be spies, I got it, Jalen. My brain didn’t get affected as much. We laughed. Okay, I found them. Picked a bunch of them and started walking back. We were almost to the alpha’s house when Kaden cut my path.
Human girl. He sniffed the air, eyes narrowing with something sharp and unfriendly. Finally, he tasted you. I'm surprised you're walking outside. Most don't survive a bite, let alone get a second chance. You are either useful to him or very lucky. Breeding. But luck runs out fast here.
Jalon stepped in front of me and gestured for me to go.
"Not so fast. Why are you not working?" Kaden demanded.
Because Alpha Hunter said so, now back off or suffer the consequences.
"How is he? Alive?" Kaden laughed.
I walked faster inside, then closed the door and let out a breath. I turned to see Hunter’s angry eyes on me.
Emily’s POVDraven took a deep breath. Yes, no, yes… okay, yes…how do you know?“ Promise you won’t freak out?" he nodded. My wolf told me.Well, don’t keep me waiting here; tell me…It's a boy.A boy… he stammered, let out a breath. How did I get so lucky to have you? Now you’re giving me a boy.“ I don’t know," I said. "Now kiss me," I demanded. His kisses were desperate and deep; I felt the emotions behind them. Draven was my true mate; I did not doubt it. But then again, in a past life I trusted Nolan with my life, only to have that trust shattered by his betrayal. I never saw it coming—the words he spoke, cold and final, still echo sometimes in the back of my mind. Please, Goddess, let me live this life fully; I do love him.He went to the meeting without me; I woke up at almost lunchtime. Rested for a change. I took a shower and changed. He walked inside and grabbed my middle, kissing me deeply.Draven, we are never going to get out of the room at the rate you're going. He chuck
Draven’s POVShe lay there pale, and I felt guilt creeping inside me. I was supposed to protect her, not the other way around. I kissed her hand softly as the door opened.Alpha Hunter walked in. Our healer said she used all her strength and needs to recover. He was staring at her, his brows furrowed. Was there anything else? I asked, holding her hand tightly. No, but if you need anything else, please let me know.I do appreciate your help and alliance; we need to talk tomorrow morning. After he left, I undressed and got into bed next to her. Vex was slamming hard against me.Sia is tired, he said.Yeah, buddy. She used all her energy to save us. Now let’s rest; tomorrow we'll figure out how else we can help her.I woke up alone; panic gripped me, and I stood up in bed looking around. I heard noise in the washroom. Opened the door to see her splashing water on her face.Draven…my lips crashed on hers. Then held her tight against me as her hand wrapped around me.My little wolf saved m
Emily’s POVDraven almost went into a rage. I hugged him tightly until he relaxed. Then his hand caressed my head. I pulled away gently to look at his face. His eyes glowed amber but were calm as he inhaled my scent.Emily, how did you know?I didn’t; I smelled it. It's weird, just like an instinct. Ever since everything happened with Draven, sometimes my senses pick up things regular people can't. Smells, feelings in the air, even danger—it all comes to me without thinking, almost like something inside me guiding my actions. Bartos stood there, unable to make a sound. It's not his fault; he didn’t know Draven. I can’t understand how I…You saved me again, he said, almost defeated. Liam? No, this has a woman’s touch, Draven, more like Cordelia. Cordelia was the healer who sometimes helped our group, with eyes always watching more than she let on. His head turned to Bartos.Find her and bring her to me; send scouts. Then he remembered we had to leave. When you do get her, place her in
Draven’s POVThe first name that came to my mind was Liam, but he wouldn’t dare; he knew that would mean death. I turned to see Emily’s pale face. The healer spoke. Alpha, Emily is no ordinary she-wolf. The moon Goddess has blessed her with gifts—she can call silverlight that heals wounds, sense dark intentions, and sometimes glimpse threads of fate itself. Her body is still frail; she can’t hold it.Keep this to yourself. Do not leave this room, or I will have your head. After they all left, I was about to wash when she opened her eyes.Draven…she said, holding her head. Then saw the blood on my chest and arms; her eyes turned to panic. You’re hurt, you’re …I took her hand fast.Emily, the blood is not mine. Now forgive me for what I’m about to do. You need a lot of rest. My hand went over her face, and her body went limp back on the pillow. I sighed.I cleaned up and changed. When I exited the bedroom, the guards were already placed, two at the door, two at the end of the hallway. B
Emily’s POVOne week had passed; Liam never appeared in front of me, and Nolan watched me from afar. I suspected they had a second chance too, yet to kill me, and I wanted badly to know why. Was my past life a huge lie, a game they played with me, my innocence?I walked into Draven’s office to see him at the window. He turned and smiled, and my heart skipped a beat. I’m falling hard for him, and I begged the Goddess to guide me; I do not want to be wrong in this life. His arms held me tight, my body relaxed against his. My little wolf, why are you so serious?"Draven," I said, pulling gently away. "I think it's time for me to tell you everything. " Goddess blessed me with my past life memories. He sat down, and I went into his lap and laid my head on his shoulder. I launched the story from the beginning. His body tensed several times, and when I finished, he touched my face.First, I want you to know, in this life I will protect you…Make you happy… Are you happy, Emily, with me, this?
Emily’s POVLiam was shouting orders as everyone lined up. His eyes were cold on me, almost a hint of hatred. I racked my brain, wondering if there was something I had done to him or his family, either in this life or the last. Maybe it was because of Draven, or maybe he recognized something about me that I couldn't remember. What could I possibly have done to him in the past life that he hates me so much?I turned to the woman he paired me with, throwing the long stick at me.Ex is: Let’s start; everything is in the core. Focus with every move, read your opponent, he kept shouting to everyone. She attacked first, and I blocked all the moves. I could see she was getting angry. That’s when I hit her, first on the leg, then her shoulder.Enough, stop, he shouted at me. He went behind the woman, his hands on her middle, whispering something in her ear while his eyes were coldly staring at me.I smiled. Are you giving her pointers or feeling her body?He looked shocked at me, then walked
Hunter’s POVWrapping her in the towel, as I tried to control my wolf. Emily was so beautiful, all of her. Innocent and humbled. Why my wolf stirred beats me. After all, she is human, but I think having so many humans, we have lost what a wolf should feel—his mate. I felt so attracted to her, and I
Hunter’s POVShe was dirty, smelly, and so beautiful. Mine. Finally, something only mine.I was sick and tired of the endless parade of women, whether she-wolf or human, that kept coming to my bed. They were always there, looking for comfort, for something from me, but it never felt right. It was j
Hunter’s POVI look at her beautiful face, and of course, I want her and mark her. But does she want me?Hunter, her hands cupping my face, I want this…her lips kissing mine softly. I growl, and I don’t know why; my wolf is acting fucking weird.I yank her shirt off, her beautiful breasts just my h
Emily’s POVI listened to all the rules as we walked together, our footsteps crunching over gravel and dry leaves. The sky faded from gold to deep purple, casting long shadows over the worn path. A cool, earthy smell lingered in the air, mixed with the faint tang of pine and woodsmoke blowing from
