SAY IT ISN’T NOTHING

DANIEL

Three hours after the Australia concert ended, I was still stuck watching Anne hover around Neo like a lost fly buzzing for attention—All for a cheap publicity stunt.

We were backstage, where the team had arranged for Anne and Neo to take a couple of photos—spearheaded by Vivian of course.

“Like this?” Anne asked, her hands cupping Neo’s face. She flipped her hair, and the camera guy took a shot. My eyes roamed all over him. Always him.

His hair was styled to fall

What I Left Behind DANIELThe motorcycle hadn’t left the garage in weeks.Dust clung to the fuel tank in a thin layer as I dragged a cloth across the black paint. The movement tugged at my shoulder, reminding me of the bullet graze. Neo had been hovering around me every day, insisting I sit still and not do too much to make the wound worse. Sitting still and doing nothing was not something I was used to. I ignored the slight pain radiating from my shoulder. The bike had always been easier to understand than people. Tighten a bolt, change the oil, replace a worn part. Everything had a solution. My phone buzzed on the workbench. I’d gotten several messages from anonymous numbers online. Some praising me, others wanting to hook up. People were crazy. It was probably another one from them.I ignored the phone and continued dusting the bike. Sweat stung my eyes, making me finally stop to take a look at the phone after the non-stop ringing.Justin.I’d not heard from him since he welcomed

President?NEOHe was supposed to be in bed.Of course he wasn’t.I found him in the kitchen instead, one hand braced on the counter while the other fumbled with the bandage around his shoulder. The gauze had already started slipping again, blood seeping faintly through the edge like he’d been ignoring it for longer than he should’ve.He didn’t even turn when I walked in.Just exhaled through his nose, like pain was an inconvenience rather than something worth stopping for.“Don’t tell me you’re trying to handle that yourself,” I said, moving toward him.The first thing I did after waking up was look for him. I was still thinking about the shooting, still replaying everything that could’ve gone wrong. I hadn’t even checked my phone like I usually did.Instead, I ended up bringing it downstairs with me.“I might have to call Mr. Bramwell. Your shoulder doesn’t look good,” I added.I reached for the gauze, but he leaned away.“I can do it.”“No, you can’t,” I said flatly. “Stop being st

Come Here, RockstarDANIELQuestions. Medical check-ups, plus a few claps on the back for being a hero. The next hour tested my patience like never before, with Neo pacing and freaking out in front of me. “I told you to stay put. It was a simple instruction, Neo.” I growled. The sight of him running toward me while the shooter was still out in the open had sent more panic crashing through me than having a gun pointed at my face.It didn't matter that I’d disarmed the shooter, what if he had another gun? What if he had a second gun I’d missed? Terror crawled over my body. I could handle getting shot. I couldn't handle Neo getting hurt. “You were shot, Daniel.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “What were you even thinking? That you’re Superman?” He heaved a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’d already neutralized the gunman, and I thought you were going…to….die.”His voice wobbled at the end and my anger vanished into thin air. Other than my unit buddies and a few peop

One Shot AwayNEO“Someone has to stop him.” Daniel tried to pull his leg away but I held it tightly. A cold sweat broke out all over my body. He couldn't possibly be saying what I thought he was saying. My mind couldn't stop playing out so many what-if scenarios. We had been having a nice conversation, one where Daniel was finally talking about himself and the next second all this happened.“It doesn’t have to be you. The police—”“It’ll be late by the time the damn police get here.” Daniel looked more serious than I’d ever seen him, scrutinizing the whole park with eagle eyes. “Don’t. Move.”And he was gone before I could continue arguing.I watched in horror as Daniel crossed the wide open expanse of grass toward the shooter who had a gun aimed at someone on the ground. A tree blocked my view of who the victim was, but then I crouched lower, and my horror doubled. Now I understood why Daniel had that expression on his face before he left. The gunman was pointing at a man and a c

For A Brief MomentDANIELThree weeks. That was how long Neo had been avoiding me. We’d been in the same space of course. Still attended interviews and rode in the same car. As a client and his bodyguard. Every conversation had ended before it started. Not when he was arguing with his mom one time and I tried to talk or when I found him sitting outside the pool in utter silence. He wouldn’t look at me. When I touched him accidentally or not, he pulled away. I couldn't look at him without thinking of the scars on his back.I could ask him, but that would be too intrusive and crossing the line, so I just let him be.Right now we are at a charity event. One Vivian had insisted that Neo attended last minute. The building was large the way these events always were. Music industry noise disguised as elegance. And of course, cameras blinking everywhere like a cherry on top.Neo kept checking the time on his phone, clearly wanting to leave as soon as possible but unable to. I watched as h

Faded, Not GoneNEOI could still feel Daniel’s fingers on my back. Not the good kind of touch — the one that had me rocking on his lap like I’d lost my mind. No. The other kind. The one that had brushed over those ugly, raised lines I never let anyone see.The scars. I thought years of countless surgeries were going to make them disappear. But things didn't work that way. It was still there, no matter how hard I tried to convince myself otherwise. My stomach twisted as I stared out the car window, the city blurring past. I’d yanked my shirt down so fast in that storage room I nearly tripped over a box. Daniel hadn’t said anything since, but I could feel his eyes on me in the rearview mirror every few seconds. Heavy. Questioning.I hated it.I hated how exposed I felt. Not just my body, that part had been easy, raw and desperate and wanted. But the scars? Those were mine. A reminder of my father’s cruelty. And now Daniel had touched them.“Neo.” His voice was low, careful. “You oka

Under His GripNEOThe second Daniel walked away, I knew the room felt wrong. Anne was still talking, but all I could hear was nothing—just the look on his face before he turned away. At The RooftopDANIELI shouldn’t have let him walk off alone.I knew the moment he stood up from that table, he was seconds away from falling apart. Neo hid things well.
