LOGINHigh in the night sky was the moon.
Full. Bright. Unforgiving. The night wind gently tugged at Elsie's pale dress as she stood in the middle of the clearing behind the Alpha estate, the cool grass brushing against her bare feet. They could almost feel the weight of what was about to happen in the stillness of the forest around them. There was no celebration here. There weren't any lamps. No sound. No wolves cheering. There is no sound. The elders' expressions were solemn as they stood in a half circle near the ancient stone altar. Even though the tension in his jaw betrayed him, Edward maintained a rigid posture as he stood in front of her wearing dark ceremonial robes. Sara was standing in his stead. Her hand rested protectively over the slight curve of her stomach. Elsie made a conscious effort not to look at it. Her father was worried and stood next to the older people. There were only a few people in attendance. Family. Heads of the pack. Witnesses. Nothing further. The oldest member of the council leaned on his carved staff as he slowly came forward. “Tonight, we gather under the gaze of the Moon Goddess to witness the severing of a sacred bond,” he said, his voice softly echoing through the clearing. Elsie's fingers at her sides curled slightly. It was never intended to be broken the mate bond. It was designed to last forever. However, fate had already been altered. The older continued, "Edward Blackwood and Elsie Whitmore were bound by destiny." Nevertheless, this union must end by choice or circumstance. The older man looked at them both. "The connection between your souls will be severed forever once the bond is broken." His focus remained on them. “Do you both understand the price of this?” The voice of Edward came first. “Yes.” His response was firm. Confident. However, Elsie noticed that his hands were clenched at the sides. She forced her own voice to remain steady while swallowing. “Yes.” The elder gave a nod. "Then proceed forward." They did so. The distance between them was reduced by two measured steps. Edward gave her a genuine look for the first time that night. genuinely looked. He looked at her face like he was trying to remember something. He murmured quietly, too low for anyone else to hear, "You don't have to do this." Elsie's chest tightened. However, she raised her chin. She said softly, "You already did it when you rejected me." They were separated by the words like a stone. The older man aimed the tip of his staff at the moon. "Cut your hands in a fist." Before putting her hand on Edward's, Elsie paused for a moment. Their bond erupted violently as soon as their skins touched. Her chest was throbbing with a rapid pulse. Her chest tightened. Edward also took a deep breath. The old sayings were started by the elder. "By the moon goddess's light... by the wolf's blood... by the bond that fate once gave...” They appeared to be being squeezed into the air. Under her skin, the connection between them burned like fire. "Let this bond be broken now." Elsie's chest went through a raging ache. It came quickly. Violent. She felt like something was being ripped out of her. As the invisible thread that held their souls together began to unravel, she gasped and felt her knees nearly buckle. Her hand was held in a tighter grip by Edward. He let out a low groan as the pain also hit him. The older man went on. "Let their hearts follow different paths." The bond split once more. This time, it's harder. As the agony permeated her veins, Elsie cried softly with a trembling body. Her wolf seemed to be being taken apart piece by piece. Edward's face had turned pale as he stood next to her. Now his breathing was labored. However, he continued to stand. The last words were said. "And under the gaze of the Moon Goddess... This bond has been severed.... Elsie felt something break inside of her. She was hit by an intense, blinding wave of pain that was unlike anything she had ever experienced before. As he clenched his chest, Edward stumbled back and let out a choked sound. Still, Elsie— Elsie was unable to maintain her balance any longer. Violently, the world spun. Her vision became hazy. Her father yelling her name was the last thing she heard. She was then completely swallowed up by the night. Elsie gave out and fell to the ground. Unconscious. While the embers of their connection consumed him like fire, Edward fell to one knee beside her and clung to his chest. Since becoming Alpha for the first time Edward seemed terrified.Silence settled over the room. The assassin's lifeless body lay sprawled across the marble floor while the shattered windows allowed the cold night breeze to sweep through the chamber. No one moved. No one spoke.Elsie's eyes never left Rowan. She could still picture them. Those golden eyes. For a brief moment, they hadn't belonged to the man she'd come to know over the past few weeks. They had belonged to something...Ancient.Powerful.Terrifying."...Your eyes," she whispered again."They changed."Rowan's hand was still wrapped gently around hers.He looked into her eyes, searching for fear.Instead, all he found was confusion.Curiosity.Concern."My Alpha."Frank's voice broke the silence."The palace must be secured."Rowan didn't look away from Elsie."Take the body.""Search every entrance.""No one leaves the palace until I give the order.""Yes, Alpha."Within moments, guards flooded into the room, carrying away the assassin while servants hurried to clean the broken furnit
Rose's terrified scream echoed through the palace."My Luna! The prisoner is inside the palace!"Rowan reacted instantly. In one swift movement, he stepped in front of Elsie, placing himself between her and the door. His entire demeanor changed in the blink of an eye. The gentle husband who had kissed her only moments ago disappeared, replaced by the feared Alpha of Nightcrest."Stay behind me," he ordered.Elsie nodded without argument.Heavy footsteps thundered through the corridor outside.Then.....A loud crash. The chamber doors burst open.A palace guard stumbled inside before collapsing onto the floor, blood soaking the front of his uniform."My... Alpha..." he gasped."He... he's heading..."Before he could finish, his eyes rolled back, and he lost consciousness.A dark figure stepped over the fallen guard. He was dressed from head to toe in black, his face hidden beneath a hood. Twin daggers glinted in the candlelight as he slowly entered the room."So," the man said with a m
Shadows Beneath the Moon........The faint warmth of Rowan's kiss lingered on Elsie's forehead long after he had left. She sat motionless before her vanity, her fingertips unconsciously brushing the same spot over and over again. It had only been a kiss on the forehead.Nothing more.Yet somehow...It had stirred something inside her that she could no longer deny. The loneliness she had felt over the past week had eased, even if only a little. For the first time after arguing with Rowan, she slept peacefully. The next morning, Rose helped Elsie dress in a simple sapphire-blue gown embroidered with silver thread."My Luna," Rose said with a smile as she adjusted the sleeves, "you look beautiful."Elsie smiled politely."Thank you."Just then, a maid entered carrying a breakfast tray."My Luna, Alpha Rowan requested this be served in the garden."Elsie's eyes brightened almost imperceptibly."He remembered..."Rose smiled knowingly."The Alpha always keeps his word."The palace gardens
Elsie's breath caught in her throat. The reflection staring back at her wasn't Rose.It was Rowan. For several long seconds, neither of them moved. His large hands still held the silk ribbon loosely between his fingers while the long strands of her hair rested against his palms.Elsie remained frozen on the stool, unable to bring herself to turn around."When did..." she whispered."When did you come in?""A few moments ago."His voice was as calm as ever."I dismissed the maids."Only then did Elsie notice the room had become completely silent.Rose and the other maids had disappeared without her realizing.Heat immediately rushed to her cheeks. She was only wearing a thin ivory nightdress that reached just below her knees. It wasn't inappropriate, but it was far less modest than anything she had ever allowed Rowan to see.She instinctively reached for the robe lying beside her. Before she could grab it, Rowan gently caught her wrist."You don't have to hide."His words only made her

The carriage moved steadily through the forest paths, its wheels crunching softly against gravel and fallen leaves as Bloom Pack slowly disappeared behind them.Elsie sat quietly near the window, her fingers resting lightly on her lap while she watched the familiar lands fade further into the distance. She should have felt something stronger.Sadness.Fear.Regret.But instead—There was only silence inside her.A strange calmness she still didn’t fully understand.Across from her, Rowan sat with one arm resting lazily against the seat, his silver eyes occasionally drifting toward her before returning to the passing scenery outside.Neither of them spoke much during the first day.Or the second. The air between them wasn’t awkward exactly,Just unfamiliar.Like two people slowly learning the shape of one another.By the third day, the tension had eased slightly. Not completely. But enough.Their journey to Nightcrest Pack was long, requiring both carriage travel and occasional stops t

Elsie did not remember falling. One moment she had been standing beneath the cold silver light of the moon, her hand in Edward’s as the elders spoke the ancient words that severed their bond.
