IRIS.

“Did you enjoy riding him the whole night?” Constantine roared as the belt landed on my back for the second time. I didn’t answer, and I refused to scream despite the pain.

I had learned that defending myself would only lead me to more punishment. So I swallowed it all and refused to scream. Tears fell from my eyes as I clutched the small fabric that covered my breasts, terrified that the continued whipping would eventually rip it.

My body jolted as he gave me another one. I kept swallowing the pain, but this time I couldn’t stop the sobs that escaped my throat. “Enough, please…”

Constantine had never whipped me with more than two lashes. He never punished me twice in a week to allow my body to recuperate. But this was already my second punishment in just four days.

“Enough? If you had followed my instructions, you wouldn’t be receiving this!” He said it with so much anger in his voice, and my body began to shake as I braced for the next hit.

I could barely hold myself. I was curled on the ground, trying to make myself smaller, hoping he’ll miss my frame and hit the floor instead.

His hand raised, and my hands flew to my head to cover my face as my body continued to tremble in fear. But the whipping didn’t come.

Instead, a loud voice ripped through the air and echoed around us. “If you hit her one more time, you will regret your actions!”

“Alpha Draco…” Constantine acknowledged him, and I slowly opened my eyes, peeking through my arms crossed over my face.

“Who gave you the right to hurt her?” He asked in a cold voice as he strode to where my husband was standing.

“She… disobeyed me.”

“And?”

“I don’t like it when she doesn’t do what I asked her to do…”

“I don’t fucking care! Apologize to her!”

Constantine shook his head as anger flashed on his face. “No! No!”

“I’m ordering you one more time, apologize to her!”

“Don’t treat her as if she’s anything special. I will never…”

He was not able to finish his statement because Alpha Draco’s hand had already moved and clutched the collar of his shirt. And before I could even let out a breath, he grabbed him and swung his body, hauling him until  Constantine ended up flying, his body slamming against the wall at the far end of the corridor with a loud thud before he eventually fell onto the floor.

I gasped in shock and tried to move my body away, terrified his anger would fall on me. My movement made Alpha Draco’s attention shift back to me. He remained standing, towering over me as I lay on the ground. “What’s your name?”

“I…Iris.”

He then crouched and held my arm, but he touched the part that was painful, so I flinched.

“Dammit,” he murmured. “Go to your room and get yourself something to wear.”

I nodded and scampered to my feet. My whole body was aching, but I did my best to move as fast as I could. I slipped inside my room and closed the door, but instead of rushing to get dressed, I placed my hands on my ears as I tried to block the noise from outside my room.

I could hear shouting and something or someone being slammed, and it terrified me. I wasn’t sure if I should be thankful that Alpha Draco had interfered, because I knew whatever he had given Constantine, my husband, would give it back to me. And it would be way worse than that.

Tears fell from my eyes as I continued to tremble, but I stifled my cries. I didn’t want anyone to hear me. This was my fault. I shouldn’t have fallen asleep. I should have done what I was told to do.

The noise outside subsided, and it was only then that I moved and put on decent clothes. I wiped away my tears and began removing my makeup with wet wipes before applying loose powder to my face. I grabbed the lipstick that I had on my broken dresser and applied a thin layer on my lips before I smudged a bit on my cheeks. I stared at my pale reflection in my mirror. Despite the red coloring, I still looked like a ghost.

Why did my life come to this?

I wish my mother didn’t die. I wish my father hadn’t taken me under his roof. I wish I hadn’t met his family. Maybe I was better off alone.

But then, being alone didn’t necessarily mean I would have a better life. Because Constantine found me while I was alone. So maybe this was exactly what my life was meant to be. I could only catch glimpses of happiness but could not fully embrace it.

I swiped the tears about to fall from my eyes and puffed my chest. I needed to come out of my room. The more I hide here, the more my husband will find a reason to beat me.

I also needed to find Alpha Draco before he leaves. I wanted to thank him for saving me, even though I know in reality what he did would only cause me more harm. Still, I wanted to see him.

After I downed a pain reliever tablet, I walked out of my room with my head held high. I was trying to act brave. But I was aware that no matter what face I showed the people in this house, they already knew the truth. I was merely a slave to my own husband and his mistresses.

I headed to the kitchen, ready to start the day by helping out with breakfast, when I was met by one of the helpers, who also seemed entitled. No one in this house valued me as the legal wife. Because again, my own husband didn’t see me that way.

“You’re late. You’ve been sleeping so well while we are toiling hard here because we have a guest!” She snapped at me.

I swallowed but ignored her and walked past her.

“Hurry! Master Constantine wants this delivered to his office. He doesn’t like keeping the guest waiting.” I heard her say those words to someone.

I swiftly turned around and snatched the tray from her hands before she could give it to the woman she was talking to.

“I’ll take this,” I said with a firm voice.

She didn’t let go of the tray and glared at me. I returned the glare, which I had never done before, and kept my hold on the tray, making it tremble between us. She must have seen something in my eyes because she let go and stepped back.

Without any words, I turned, holding the tray, and walked out of the kitchen. I headed for Constantine’s office, continuing with my brave front.

I knew what could happen to me, but the urge to have a glimpse of Alpha Draco was stronger. I had nothing to lose. I’d been suffering all my life, but at least I could make all the pain worth it.

I hope something resonates in alpha Draco. He takes her away. But what happened to his wife; her sister? Why is he there in Constine’s house?

  • THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA   Chapter 216 - Home

PRINCESS CASSIOPEIA Soon to be Queen of the Wicker Forest. It felt like lightning struck me in the head and then the rest of my body but it didn’t hurt at all. Instead, I was cocooned in a comfortable embrace as the pixie dust of memories filled my mind. One by one, my memories returned from the moment I was able to see the Wicker Forest with my own eyes as a little fae—my first step, my first magic, and my first introduction to the Imperial Faes’ ways of living. Even without knowing who my mother was, laughter and love surrounded me while I was growing up. I never ran out of it. I had a good childhood. But everything shifted drastically over the last two decades. I saw greed growing in my father’s eyes. He kept telling me that his plans were for the betterment of the Wicker Forest, and I believed him.I didn’t know that the lectures I was given were no longer part of the regular school for Imperial Faes. I was being prepared for a war I had no clue was about to happen. At that

  • THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA   Chapter 215 - Pixie

IRIS. “Iris…” She turned to look at me again. “Mama…” “Tell me… Why could I do what I did? And why were you able to show me that thing in your hand?” She asked, and this time, I noticed that she hardly stuttered. And when I looked at her again, I noticed many other things. Her hair became longer and shinier, and her skin became clearer. The color had returned to her face and lips. Her cheeks, once hollowed out, were returning to normal, and her lashes were longer. She looked like someone who was made up for an event and not someone who was almost choked to death earlier by a Dark Fae.So I knew I could no longer delay letting her know everything because her body was slowly returning to her Dark Fae Form. “Mama…” I held her hands, covering the dark ink on her skin with my hands. “There are many things I will tell you, but first, I want you to retrieve that memory you’ve lost. The memory that Franco said you had lost in an accident.”“Will it tell me who my family is?” She asked.

  • THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA   Chapter 214 - Successor to the Throne

IRIS.I woke up and Mama was still asleep, which was nothing unusual. She let out a full magic earlier, so it had depleted her mana. The only reason I wasn’t worried was that she was breathing steadily and smiling in her sleep. She looked too relaxed for someone who just brutally decapitated a head. Dad was back at the forest where we left Eox’s body. He went back with Brute, so the Guardian could check if he was really dead. And that also eased my worries, because I felt like the Raiders would come and attack us if they hadn’t heard back from their king. But Brute told Dad and Draco while I was asleep that once the Dark Fae King dies, the whole Wicker Forest will feel it. And until the next ruler stepped up, they would not be allowed to leave the realm. And it resulted in Draco asking who was the rightful successor to the throne upon the king’s death.Brute said a dark vein mark would be passed on from one ruler to another. In Eox’s case, the person who stopped the beating of his

IRIS.I should have believed Draco when he told me there was no way Eox would leave the Orebrus unguarded, but the stubborn part of me was so sure Eox had no idea that I knew about the Orebrus. And it was too late to regret that because Eox already held my mother’s life in his hands. So, throughout the confrontation, I tried my best to remain calm, but the moment he tightened the vines around Mama’s neck, I lost it. Everything happened so fast after that. The next thing I knew, I was rolling on the ground with Draco’s beast protecting me. Draco also cut loose the thorny vines that Eox had wrapped around me. But instead of the vines dying or vanishing, they remained alive and were crawling back to Eox. The rolling eventually stopped and I immediately stood up with Draco’s wolf beside me.I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My mother, despite not remembering who she was, was letting out a power I had never seen from any dark fae before. Her vines were thicker and deadly-looking.

  • THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA   Chapter 212 - Princess Cassiopeia

DRACO.In seconds, I was pulled into a limbo. I already knew where she was taking me. Earlier, I sent people to locate Vaidas and Cassiopeia, and they found them in one of the streams inside the forest, which was twenty minutes away from our home. They were enjoying their picnic. There was no danger around them, so we just let them stay and continue with their day.My feet landed on the forest ground and I immediately let Iris stand on her own.“No!” Iris screamed as dried leaves rose from the ground, circling together with a big dust tornado. I couldn’t see anything, but I pulled Iris closer so her back rested against my torso, and I placed my arm over my forehead, trying to shield my eyes but still peeking enough to see my mate.“Calm down, Princess Diallica. So we can talk…” Eox’s voice boomed but I had no idea where he was. Iris’ chest heaved, but the dust tornado slowly vanished. I was finally able to see what made Iris scream.Vaidas was tied up around a tree, unconscious. H

  • THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA   Chapter 211 - Dark Heart

DRACO.“Do you know why you can’t manipulate the Orebrus?” I asked her.“What do you mean?”“Because your heart’s not into it. You want it to change a memory that you, yourself, could never let go.”Her eyes watered as she held on to my hand on her face. “My heart is turning black like Dark Faes. I have the desire to punish those who took my family away… But at the same time, I don’t want that to happen, Draco. I don’t know what I want or who I am anymore.”“Look at me, Little Bird.” I pulled our faces closer before I continued. “You are Iris. Not the Omega Iris. Not the Dark Fae Iris. You are my Iris. But like anyone in this world, regardless of species, you are capable of love and caring. But also of anger. Of frustrations. Of hatred. You are capable of thinking negative thoughts against other beings. But it doesn’t make you bad. As long as you don’t act on it and as long as you try to do the right thing, you will remain you. My Iris.”Her tears fell, and I wiped them with my thumbs

  • THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA   Chapter 110

IRIS’ POVI felt a hand hold mine and squeezed it gently. When I met Princess Adessa’s gaze, she didn’t smile but she uttered words that made me relax a bit. “Don’t worry. I’ve got you.”“What are you doing here?” The princess asked the moment Felicity stopped before us. “Just walking around. It’s

IRIS’ POV.After we finished our tea, we decided to move and sit under a tree so we could find a more relaxing position. We had just sat down and were giggling as she shared stories of how she met Alpha Kael when they came back. I held my breath as I watched Draco walk toward me. He no longer had h
