ANMELDENIRIS.
“Did you enjoy riding him the whole night?” Constantine roared as the belt landed on my back for the second time. I didn’t answer, and I refused to scream despite the pain.
I had learned that defending myself would only lead me to more punishment. So I swallowed it all and refused to scream. Tears fell from my eyes as I clutched the small fabric that covered my breasts, terrified that the continued whipping would eventually rip it.
My body jolted as he gave me another one. I kept swallowing the pain, but this time I couldn’t stop the sobs that escaped my throat. “Enough, please…”
Constantine had never whipped me with more than two lashes. He never punished me twice in a week to allow my body to recuperate. But this was already my second punishment in just four days.
“Enough? If you had followed my instructions, you wouldn’t be receiving this!” He said it with so much anger in his voice, and my body began to shake as I braced for the next hit.
I could barely hold myself. I was curled on the ground, trying to make myself smaller, hoping he’ll miss my frame and hit the floor instead.
His hand raised, and my hands flew to my head to cover my face as my body continued to tremble in fear. But the whipping didn’t come.
Instead, a loud voice ripped through the air and echoed around us. “If you hit her one more time, you will regret your actions!”
“Alpha Draco…” Constantine acknowledged him, and I slowly opened my eyes, peeking through my arms crossed over my face.
“Who gave you the right to hurt her?” He asked in a cold voice as he strode to where my husband was standing.
“She… disobeyed me.”
“And?”
“I don’t like it when she doesn’t do what I asked her to do…”
“I don’t fucking care! Apologize to her!”
Constantine shook his head as anger flashed on his face. “No! No!”
“I’m ordering you one more time, apologize to her!”
“Don’t treat her as if she’s anything special. I will never…”
He was not able to finish his statement because Alpha Draco’s hand had already moved and clutched the collar of his shirt. And before I could even let out a breath, he grabbed him and swung his body, hauling him until Constantine ended up flying, his body slamming against the wall at the far end of the corridor with a loud thud before he eventually fell onto the floor.
I gasped in shock and tried to move my body away, terrified his anger would fall on me. My movement made Alpha Draco’s attention shift back to me. He remained standing, towering over me as I lay on the ground. “What’s your name?”
“I…Iris.”
He then crouched and held my arm, but he touched the part that was painful, so I flinched.
“Dammit,” he murmured. “Go to your room and get yourself something to wear.”
I nodded and scampered to my feet. My whole body was aching, but I did my best to move as fast as I could. I slipped inside my room and closed the door, but instead of rushing to get dressed, I placed my hands on my ears as I tried to block the noise from outside my room.
I could hear shouting and something or someone being slammed, and it terrified me. I wasn’t sure if I should be thankful that Alpha Draco had interfered, because I knew whatever he had given Constantine, my husband, would give it back to me. And it would be way worse than that.
Tears fell from my eyes as I continued to tremble, but I stifled my cries. I didn’t want anyone to hear me. This was my fault. I shouldn’t have fallen asleep. I should have done what I was told to do.
The noise outside subsided, and it was only then that I moved and put on decent clothes. I wiped away my tears and began removing my makeup with wet wipes before applying loose powder to my face. I grabbed the lipstick that I had on my broken dresser and applied a thin layer on my lips before I smudged a bit on my cheeks. I stared at my pale reflection in my mirror. Despite the red coloring, I still looked like a ghost.
Why did my life come to this?
I wish my mother didn’t die. I wish my father hadn’t taken me under his roof. I wish I hadn’t met his family. Maybe I was better off alone.
But then, being alone didn’t necessarily mean I would have a better life. Because Constantine found me while I was alone. So maybe this was exactly what my life was meant to be. I could only catch glimpses of happiness but could not fully embrace it.
I swiped the tears about to fall from my eyes and puffed my chest. I needed to come out of my room. The more I hide here, the more my husband will find a reason to beat me.
I also needed to find Alpha Draco before he leaves. I wanted to thank him for saving me, even though I know in reality what he did would only cause me more harm. Still, I wanted to see him.
After I downed a pain reliever tablet, I walked out of my room with my head held high. I was trying to act brave. But I was aware that no matter what face I showed the people in this house, they already knew the truth. I was merely a slave to my own husband and his mistresses.
I headed to the kitchen, ready to start the day by helping out with breakfast, when I was met by one of the helpers, who also seemed entitled. No one in this house valued me as the legal wife. Because again, my own husband didn’t see me that way.
“You’re late. You’ve been sleeping so well while we are toiling hard here because we have a guest!” She snapped at me.
I swallowed but ignored her and walked past her.
“Hurry! Master Constantine wants this delivered to his office. He doesn’t like keeping the guest waiting.” I heard her say those words to someone.
I swiftly turned around and snatched the tray from her hands before she could give it to the woman she was talking to.
“I’ll take this,” I said with a firm voice.
She didn’t let go of the tray and glared at me. I returned the glare, which I had never done before, and kept my hold on the tray, making it tremble between us. She must have seen something in my eyes because she let go and stepped back.
Without any words, I turned, holding the tray, and walked out of the kitchen. I headed for Constantine’s office, continuing with my brave front.
I knew what could happen to me, but the urge to have a glimpse of Alpha Draco was stronger. I had nothing to lose. I’d been suffering all my life, but at least I could make all the pain worth it.
IRIS.I slept the whole night after we took my mother home but the first thing I did when I woke up the next day was rush to her room—wanting to make sure that she was really alive—only to find her sleeping peacefully in my father’s arms. Dad motioned for Draco and me to leave the room without making any noise so even if I had many questions, we did as we were told. Dad eventually told us about what happened the night before but requested not to say a word about it, as he didn’t want Mama to be uncomfortable around him. So of course, I agreed. I was happy that Dad was putting her first. The days after that went by swiftly. Dad stayed with us and had been doing so well as her bodyguard. He was always around her and the only time he would leave her alone was whenever she was with me. He also moved to the bedroom beside hers, but I knew at night it was either Mama would go to his room, or he would go to hers. Dad kept saying they would only sleep, which I totally believe because that wa
PRINCESS CASSIOPEIA/PIA.My eyes snapped open, and I was gasping for air. I had another nightmare but I couldn’t remember it. All I knew was I was terrified. I pushed the blanket off my body and sat up before letting my eyes roam around the dark room. I saw a figure lying down on the other bed, and for a second, I thought it was Iris until the figure took form and I realized it was a man. Slowly, the memories of how Vaidas ended up there came to my mind. He was sleeping on his side, still facing me with his arms crossed across his chest. He looked cold, or maybe he just fell asleep in this position. But either way, I saw the blanket neatly folded at the edge of the bed. So I stood up and walked toward his bed. I carefully grabbed the extra sheet and just as I was about to cover him with it, he grunted in his sleep. Then his arms loosened, and one was positioned in a way as if it were waiting for someone to lay its head on it. I was just looking at him, biting my bottom lip. This w
*AUTHOR'S NOTE: I overlooked this detail from the previous chapter. Vaidas should be addressing Iris' mother as Miss PIA and not Miss Cassiopeia.PRINCESS CASSIOPEIA/PIA.I felt someone was watching me as I walked further into the forest, but no one was around. I couldn’t remember anything or how I ended up in this place. I didn’t even know what my name was or where I came from. All I knew was that it was cold, and the fabric of my clothes was so thin that I could feel the night air pricking my skin. I kept walking. The sun came up and went down and was replaced by the moon. But the moon vanished as well and another day started. The cycle continued but nothing had changed. I was still walking to the unknown. It felt like a never-ending journey, and I just found myself crying. I wanted the walking to cease, but my feet wouldn’t stop.“Please!” I screamed. My body jolted, waking me up from another nightmare.Tears trickled down my cheeks while I was panting hard as if I had been runni
PRINCE VAIDAS.“Hi…” A soft voice came and my body jolted, not expecting to hear anything. A soft giggle followed and my heart warmed in an instant. I felt nostalgia hearing her laughter, like I was teleported back to the first time I heard her giggle in the forest and had no idea where the sound was coming from. “I’m sorry… I startled you.”I smiled and shook my head as I helped her sit, placing a pillow on her back. “No need to apologize. But you shouldn’t be sitting. Maybe it’s better if you lie down.”It was her turn to shake her head. “I don’t like... I’d been… lying down forever.”“Very well then. Are you comfortable?”She nodded before her gaze focused on Iris. “Is I… Iris okay? What happened to her?”“She’s sleeping. We traveled far and she was sleepy, but she didn’t want to leave your side so she stayed here.” I replied, and I saw her shoulders relax. I was glad I had thought of this earlier so the answer came out naturally. “I see…” She spoke and met my gaze. I was doing my
DRACO. My feet landed on solid ground, and the first thing I checked was Iris. I wanted to make sure we were not separated and when I saw her still locked in my embrace, I let out the breath I was holding. I would never get used to this teleportation, but what choice do I have? Still, this power was a gift that had helped us in many ways, so I shouldn’t be complaining. Iris tilted her head back and our gazes met. I smiled warmly at her, raising my hand to remove the stray hair blocking her eyes, but then her body turned around and swayed. My reflexes moved quickly and I caught her even before she bent backward. “Fuck!” I growled. “Open a guestroom with two beds!”Roman sprang into action and ran toward the stairs.“Janice! Follow me and take two helpers with you.” I continued to order as I walked with fast strides to the stairs.“Is she okay?” Vaidas asked as he followed me with Cassiopeia in his arms. “I think she exhausted all her energy to make sure we ended up here. She needs
IRIS. It had been far too long since the last time I heard her, but I still knew her voice. It was the only thing that kept my hope alive during my darkest days. “I’m sorry…” The voice was throaty yet so soft. “I must have collapsed again. Thank you, for holding me.”My body immediately spun around, my eyes widening in shock—mirroring the expression that my father carried as he stared at the female he was holding. My mother, Princess Cassiopeia of the Wicker Forest, had her eyes open, and an embarrassed smile curled on her lips with her face flustered as she looked at my father. “I think... I can sit up straight now…” She added. It was only then that Dad adjusted her position so she was not leaning onto him, but he didn’t take his hands off her arms. He remained quiet, just staring at her, and there must have been too many questions in his head, but I was glad that through all of this, he didn’t let go of her. Or he wasn’t freaking out. “Mama...” I took one step but stopped the mom
IRIS’ POV.After we finished our tea, we decided to move and sit under a tree so we could find a more relaxing position. We had just sat down and were giggling as she shared stories of how she met Alpha Kael when they came back. I held my breath as I watched Draco walk toward me. He no longer had h
IRIS' POVDraco's laughter filled the room, and instead of getting upset about how he thought what I said was funny, I couldn’t help but giggle with him. “I can assure you this won’t be the last.” His eyes dilated when he said that. “Unless you don’t like how it tastes. So let me wash first.” I p
IRIS' POV.“What were you planning to do with her then?” I was scowling, my chest heaving as I waited for his response. “I didn’t know. All I knew was that she was Kael’s, and anything that Kael had, I wanted away from him. But even before she could reach my territory, Adessa had already created h
IRIS' POV.My morning began as wonderfully as how my night ended. I woke up with something pressing lightly on my left eye, and I began to scratch it. I heard Draco chuckling, making me realize that he was actually peppering kisses on my face. So my eyes snapped open at the sight of his handsome,
