Chapter 2

Autor: Eggs Tomato
“Adults can't lie! You’re going to get Pinocchio's nose!

“Your husband is so handsome! Can I see the pictures of you two together?”

I was quite dumbfounded upon hearing this. It just occurred to me that despite having been together for so many years, the photo on my phone case was our only picture together.

Ethan had always insisted he was not fond of pictures. That was the reason the only picture we had together was the one we took on the day we got married.

The child’s mother must have noticed something was off. She proceeded to pull the girl away from me before excusing her daughter’s manners embarrassingly, “Sorry about that, it’s just kids being kids.”

I brushed it off and commented no further.

Then, I grabbed my phone again and scrolled mindlessly.

As soon as I opened my feed, I saw a new post Cecil Greene made only a minute ago.

It was a screenshot of a post Ethan had shared on his page, captioned, [Loving you was the best choice I have ever made.]

I froze the moment I saw the post. My fingers were shaking when I proceeded to go to Ethan’s profile.

His page was set to only display posts from the past three days. It was empty.

A thought suddenly occurred to me. I found myself logging into my alternate account before directing myself to Ethan’s profile again.

This time, I saw everything as clear as day.

His latest post was made only ten minutes ago.

He had attached two pictures to the post. One was of himself and Cecil with their cheeks pressed together, and the other was a shot of a table splayed out with a variety of dishes.

I looked at the food on the table. They were the same dishes Ethan had prepared for me today.

The caption read, [Happy Birthday. I would do anything for you.]

There was also a pinned post on his page. It was a picture of him and Cecil from three years ago.

After staring at the picture for a while, I proceeded to extract the picture we took together from my phone case.

It was a nearly identical picture with us standing in the same background, but that was the extent of the similarity.

In the picture with Cecil, he was smiling tenderly.

In contrast, he looked annoyed in the picture with me. I remembered we even had a scuffle on the morning of the picture.

My fingers were shaking when I scrolled through his profile.

He had been making posts nearly every day, sometimes even several posts a day.

I clicked on a random one and was met with a picture of him and Cecil kissing under a burst of fireworks.

I remembered that day. It was New Year's Eve.

I had been waiting for him for ages with a bouquet of flowers in the square, all just for him, to send me a text telling me he was working overtime and that I should head home to get some sleep.

This whole time, he was in the same square as I was. While I was shivering in the cold with a bouquet in my hands, he was hugging and kissing another woman.

I clicked another post. It contained a picture of them sharing an affectionate kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel.

I remembered the day as well. I had a terrible fever and was trying to ask him to bring some medicine home for me. It took countless calls before he picked up at all.

In the end, he ended up bringing a pack of digestive supplements home.

Now that I had seen the post, I realized that the pack of pills wasn’t even meant for me. He was only buying them for Cecil and got some extra for me as a matter of convenience.

My eyes were reddening when I clicked on yet another post. It was one of him taking Cecil's dog to the vet for deworming.

I remembered that day too. It was a day I would never forget.

My grandmother was sick and was on her deathbed at the time. Before her passing, she held my hand tightly and expressed her wish to see Ethan one last time.

I called Ethan again and again until he finally picked up. When he finally did answer, he grumbled impatiently, “I have something urgent at work and had to leave for a business trip out of town. What do you expect me to do? I can’t rush back.”

With that, I turned off the livestream and went straight to the airport.Ethan pestered me with countless calls on my way there, but I decided there was no point in picking up anymore.Since I wasn’t picking up, he sent a barrage of messages.“Honey, what’s the meaning of this?”“Honey, please answer the phone! Did you watch the livestream?”“Honey, it's not what you think it is. I only said what I said so she wouldn’t do something reckless.“Honey, could you explain what the divorce document you sent to her is about? What divorce? Didn't we agree not to get divorced?”I was getting annoyed by the constant stream of whiny messages and decided to block him for good. Before boarding the plane, I turned to take one last look at the city I had spent the last ten years of my life in.My eyes glowed with anticipation for the future. After landing in my grandmother's hometown, I found a random guesthouse to lodge.I spent the following period in the most relaxed state of mind I had

Tasha came up to me and hugged me tightly. Her voice was full of concern as she said, “Babe, you've lost weight.”I chuckled and gently nudged her away before teasing her, “Come on, I was never fat to begin with, alright?”After leaving her law firm, I went for a mindless stroll in the street. In an ironic twist of fate, I spotted Ethan and Cecil only a short distance away from me. I had to wonder if this was mere coincidence or his way of manipulating me.I overheard their conversation.“Don't you ever think about texting Venice again. I’m never going to divorce her!”Cecil cried out, “Ethan, I’m only doing this because I love you!”Ethan was unfazed. “Now that the plan has been exposed, you should abort the baby. I’m not going to let you keep the baby if it means it’s going to upset Venice.”I smirked when I saw them going at each other. So much for cutting ties with Cecil. He must truly believe I was that easy for him to manipulate.I could not help but feel a sick sense

The moment Ethan leaned in closer, my first instinct was to shove him away.He was visibly disappointed by my reaction. “Honey, why are you pushing me away?”I backed away from him to avoid his touch while brushing him off indifferently and said, “I’m sick. I don’t want you to catch a fever from me.”With that, I ignored him and turned away to sleep. It was so quiet in the bedroom that I could hear him sighing again and again next to me throughout the night. In the past, I would have turned around to hug him. I would have done anything to comfort him and take away his pain. But now, all I felt was irritation.“Do you want to go back to your room to sleep? I can’t sleep with you here.”As soon as I said so, he descended into a deathly silence. After a while, I could feel him getting out of bed and walking out of the room. After he was gone, I drifted off to sleep again. That night, I had the best sleep I had ever had. When I woke up the next morning, the first thing I did wa

“No way! Did you begin to have second thoughts when he told you you were pregnant?”I forced a sardonic smile before slowly forming a reply, “I don't know. All I know is that my head wasn’t in the right space at that moment.”“Babe, it’s been almost a decade. He’s no longer the man who loves you with his whole heart. You’re the one who hasn’t changed.”When I looked at Ethan, memories from the past suddenly rushed through my mind.We grew up together since childhood.Funnily enough, we were the kind of childhood acquaintances who never got along with each other growing up.Things changed when my parents got divorced and went off to start their own families. Since they both refused to take care of me, I had to live with my grandmother instead. It was one of the toughest periods of my life.People would make fun of me and call me an unwanted child. Some even spread rumors that I was the one who caused my parents to divorce.Eventually, I became severely depressed.Ethan was the

I picked up my phone, opened my conversation with Cecil, and showed the picture to Ethan.“Do you have anything to say about this?”The moment Ethan saw the picture, his face turned ghostly pale. He immediately reached out to grab my hand, “Honey, it’s not like that. It’s not what you think it is.“She must have photoshopped this. She's trying to sabotage our relationship! You're the one who's pregnant!”I shrugged off his hand and stated plainly, “Alright. If that’s what you think it is, then I’ll go get tested again.”A strange look came upon his face upon hearing this. He turned away from me and assured me uncertainly, “No need for that. You’re the one who is pregnant.”“How long are you going to keep lying to me?”When I looked at how he was still keeping up the charade, my emotions reached a tipping point. He must have sensed how upset I was by then and realized the cat was out of the bag. With that, he took my hand and started to plead with his eyes reddened, “Honey, it's

“Honey, it’s your pregnancy test report! We’re going to have a baby! You’re going to be a mother!“We’re finally going to have a child! We’re going to be parents!“Honey, why aren't you saying anything? You must be so happy you can’t even speak!”Ethan was smiling from ear to ear while he waved his hands in front of me. His eyes were sparkling. This sudden revelation of pregnancy sabotaged my plans. I blankly stared at the report while a mixture of emotions tossed around inside me.“I’m pregnant?”Ethan smiled and nodded jubilantly. Then, he stepped forward, gently caressed my neck, and spoke in a tender voice, “Yes, you're pregnant.”I set the pregnancy report on the table. Then, I went to the refrigerator, where I grabbed yet another can of beer.Ethan frowned instantly upon witnessing this. He jabbed a step forward and snatched the can while lecturing me, “What’s this about? Haven’t I told you I don’t like seeing you drinking? Besides, you’re pregnant! That’s the last thing
