LOGINMy back slammed against the door, my breaths shallow and heavy, I tried to move but his hold remained firm. “ What are you doing? Chris is in the other room.” I whispered. He drew closer, the distance between us vanishing in one step. His tatted arms braced the door, caging me between them. “ The same Chris who's on a date with another woman?” His brows lifted almost mockingly. My pride took a hit but still I met his gaze, holding my ground. “ It's fake.” “ It isn't.” He tilted his head, I wanted to say something to defend Chris but when his lips rested on my nape in a soft subtle graze, the rest of my words died in my throat— “ If I had you…” he planted another kiss. “ I would never make you a second option.” ****** When Zinnia’s older brother has to leave the country for a year for a business trip, he sends her to live with his best friend who also happens to be Zinnia's secret long-distance boyfriend. When she gets there, she sees the man she loves in the arms of another. He tells her it's fake. That his parents arranged it for a business deal, that he'll come back to her. She believes him. But his older brother doesn't seem to agree. He mocks her, makes her mad but beneath? He wants her and would do anything to have her. A bet. “ If my brother leaves her for you, I'll vanish and never bother you again.” He leaned close, my throat tightened. “ But if he doesn't, I'll pursue you, endlessly.” Now Zinnia must do everything to ruin the marriage and also not hurt her boyfriend in the process but what happens when she starts to fall for the very person she swore she wouldn't?

“Have you landed?” Bruno asked, and I groaned, my body collapsing onto a wooden bench. “I landed three hours ago! And still no sign of Chris! He promised he would be here, and yet he isn’t.” I tried to control my anger. As much as I wanted to vent my frustration, I didn’t want my brother finding out that Chris and I were something more. It would kill him. And ruin everything. “It’s okay. I’ll call him. He’s probably busy.” “He probably is…” “Don’t move around too much. Just sit and wait for him, okay?” I rolled my eyes. “I’m 26, Bruno. I’ll be fine.” “But you’re still my baby sister, and I have the right to worry about you.” Classic Bruno. Treating me like a child even in my twenties. Once again, this proved my point, he would murder Chris if he found out about us. But I was going to tell him… soon. Or probably never… He ended the call, and I tried Chris’s line again, grabbing my suitcase as I headed toward a nearby restaurant. The call went straight to voicemail—it didn’t even ring. With a sigh, I made my order and returned to the bench. I exhaled deeply, refusing to let the negative energy ruin my mood. Instead, I focused on the good things—like what we would do together. Finally, Chris would be able to take me on a proper date. In public. Without my brother’s prying eyes. Ugh, it felt so good. My mind raced with possibilities, excitement bubbling through me. I took a small sip of my smoothie, savoring the taste, when a black Aston Martin screeched to a reckless stop nearby. I jumped, and my poor smoothie slipped from my fingers, crashing to the ground. Could my day get any worse? Before I could curse the driver out, a man stepped out, worry etched on his face. His eyes scanned me quickly before he exhaled in relief. “I am so sorry, miss—wait—” Realization struck. He pulled out his phone, glanced at it, then looked back at me. “You’re Miss Zinnia Maxwell!” I nodded slowly. He ran his fingers through his hair, exhaling. “Master Chris asked me to get you!” He didn’t forget me. I knew he wouldn’t. Warmth bloomed in my stomach. “Please, let me help you!” I smiled, handing him my suitcase. “You should’ve been here earlier. I’ve been waiting for hours,” I said, crossing my arms as he closed the trunk. “I’m sorry, miss. There was a bit of traffic, and I had to go pick—” “Mr. Axel.” A low, crisp voice came from inside the car. My gaze followed the sound, and a small gasp slipped from my lips. The man inside looked dangerously handsome. Brown, tousled hair fell over his forehead. His sharp features screamed perfection. Tattoos snaked over his skin… and his eyes—Brown and silver, hidden behind clear lenses. “Do I have to remind you that we have somewhere to be?” His voice cut through the air, and I realized I had been staring. Shit. Heat scorched my cheeks as I quickly looked away, focusing instead on a far less attractive trash can. “I’m sorry, sir. This is Miss Zinnia—the lady Master Chris asked us to bring,” Axel introduced, and I could feel the man’s gaze settle on me. I swallowed. How could someone be so intimidating? “Are you getting in, or would you prefer to walk?” he asked. I walked to the already opened door and stepped in. Axel offered me a smile before closing it behind me. The car hummed as the ride began. The man beside me remained silent, his attention fixed on a tablet as he typed away. The quiet stretched between us, thick and suffocating, mixed with the scent of his expensive cologne. Unconsciously, I stole glances at him, but quickly looked away, pretending to scroll through my phone. “Stop.” He finally spoke. The car came to a halt. He stepped out in front of what looked like a jewelry store, shutting the door behind him and for some reason, I could finally breathe. “Why did you stop?” I asked, turning to Axel. “Oh, Sir Grayson has to get a gift.” “A gift? For who?” “His brother. It’s his engagement party today.” My brows furrowed slightly. The door opened again, and Grayson stepped back in shortly after. The car resumed its journey, and a few minutes later, we arrived at a very expensive-looking building. My gaze barely lingered on it—especially when it landed on Chris. He stood outside, talking to an elderly couple, his lips stretched into a smile. It had been so long. So long since I’d seen him. We had FaceTimed and called countless times. Even though he was always busy, I still saw him—but now, now that he was right in front of me… He looked even more handsome than before. My heart skipped, my fingers itching to pull him close and breathe him in. As soon as Axel parked, I jumped out, my feet moving faster than I thought possible. But before I could reach him, a red-haired girl walked out from inside, meeting him with a smile—a smile too wide to be friendly. I froze. No. Before my brain could catch up, he leaned in… and kissed her. My steps faltered. My heart dropped, sharp and sudden, like something inside me had snapped out of place. I tried to convince myself I was imagining things. It was probably jet lag and Exhaustion. But when I blinked, the image didn’t disappear. No. It wasn’t true. He couldn’t. He wouldn’t. My eyes burned with unshed tears as I slowly walked toward him. “C-Chris…” My voice came out as a broken whisper. I could barely hear myself. He didn’t notice at first but when he did, something flickered in his eyes. Yet he didn’t pull away. “What is this?” My voice grew louder as I reached him, pulling him away from her. I ignored the glares and confused looks from the elderly couple. “What are you doing?” he snapped, yanking his arm back, his brows furrowing in anger. The girl moved closer to him, her face twisted with concern. “Are you okay?” she asked, checking his arm. “Who is she?” My voice trembled, clinging desperately to hope that they were just friends. Friends kiss, right? No. They didn’t. A voice whispered in my head, but I refused to believe it. “She’s my fiancée.”He pulled away, letting me breathe. He extended his palm. Hesitation lingered in my bones, but slowly, I melted, placing my hand in his.He bent down, his lips brushing against the back of my palm in a gentle caress. A small move—but it was enough to set fires ablaze in my chest. Then my mind drifted to Chris. He wasn't really that upset, right? Before I could stop myself, I pulled my hand away from his touch. "I'm sorry, I need to go," I said as I turned, heading in the direction he and Elara had gone. The pounding sound of my shoes against the asphalt filled the air, but it was nothing compared to how fast my heart was racing.I was on edge.On one hand, I had Chris, the man I'd spent the past seven years with. Then there was Grayson, who had stormed into my life like a hurricane, ruining everything I'd worked so hard to build.I didn't hate him.Even though I tried to convince myself that I did.
**Zinnia's POV**My heart banged loudly against my ribs as soon as I sighted Chris, arms crossed and his face twisted into a smile that seemed too cold to be genuine. He was pissed.Very pissed. As the car pulled to a stop, Grayson turned to me, pressing his hands over mine.“Are you okay? You're turning pale,” he asked, his voice tinged with genuine concern.I flashed him a smile that didn't reach my eyes.“I'm fine, don't worry.”Thankfully, he didn't push me. He simply stepped out of the car and walked to my door, pulling it open. But I stopped him before he could open it fully.Chris and Elara marched toward us. A swallow slid down my throat, my fingers scratching against the hem of my dress.“I see you two had an amazing time together?”A question? An assumption?I didn't know.Instead, I just smiled awkwardly.“Yeah, we did—”Grayson i
I reached the backyard, spotting the mechanic from afar, his head buried deep beneath the hood as he worked his magic on the car. When he spotted me, he spoke.“Oi, sorry for coming late, boss. The rain was shitty, but I'm here now.”His accent was funny. But that wasn't all.I also realized that Grayson was actually behind me.I didn't dare look back.“Here are the keys,” his deep voice came, sending a cold feeling down my veins. He sounded empty.Detached.Just like he had that night. The night we talked about his family. Was I treating him like a commodity again?I knew I shouldn't have cared, but some part of me did, and I couldn't control it.Before I could stop myself, I turned to look at him, but he didn't meet my gaze. He didn't say anything to me as he brushed past and walked toward the car, looking under the hood alongside the mechanic. The next few moments flew by, filled with Grayson speaking mechanical terms I couldn't understand and, thankfully, the engine humming again.
I had never wanted to murder someone so much until this very moment.I could already imagine his blood sprawled over my fingers after I'd successfully snapped his head off his body and wiped that God-forsaken smirk from his very disgusting, very attractive lips. Finally, my fingers found the red button, and I ended the call, turning to Grayson, my cheeks burning hot with rage.“Are you actually insane?” I said through gritted teeth, my nails bleeding into my palms. He slipped his hands from my shirt, his smirk widening as he pulled away from me, walking toward the bathroom door like he hadn't just ruined my life.I wanted to punch him.I wanted to kill him.But I knew I couldn't.One, I was sure those muscles weren't just for the female gaze, and second, I'd probably die if I tried.I ran my fingers through my hair, my mind in a haze. What was wrong with me?Why was I reacting this way to his touch? He just freaking touched me, and then boom—I was seconds away from an orgasm. There wa
I pushed myself up, aiming for the door, but Elara’s hand found my wrist, tugging me back. My jaw clenched.“Don’t do anything stupid.”Stupid?STUPID?!Rage and disgust seared through my bones. I snatched my wrist away.“You’re the one who’s making out with your fiancé’s brother, and I’m the one d
**Zinnia's POV**Chris tugged at my sleeve, pulling me along until we got to a room. Elara had excused herself to use the restroom, so it was just us. His nails dug into my skin, pain shooting up my arm.“Hey, let me go! What’s with you?” I snapped, his eyes burning with a mixture of rage and jealo

**Zinnia's POV**“She’s my fiancée.”I couldn’t hear anything else. The sound of my heart shattering rang in my ears, making me stagger.“What do you mean?” My voice trembled. “What the hell do you mean, Chris?!”She gave me a confused look, her gaze shifting between me and Chris.
