LOGINILYANA’S POV.
This must be a dream. One I didn’t want to wake up from. I don’t know what I was expecting when he placed his lips on mine, but not something this soft and warm. He bit down on my lower lips, a gasp escaping my mouth only for me to feel his tongue and everything inside. It was messy, but it was good. Like the kind of thing that completed someone. His hand found its way to the back of my head, pulling me closer as he kissed me—soft and rough at the same time, moving slowly, then deeper, like he was making sure I followed his pace. Everything disappeared. My entire soul was lost in this one kiss. I shut my eyes, letting him use my lips, something new blooming inside of my body. His hand trailed forward to my throat, running a finger down it and down to my chest as a moan involuntarily escaped my mouth. Suddenly someone cleared their throat and he immediately pulled away from me. I opened my eyes to meet his own. For a second, he looked… surprised. Almost unsure. Then it disappeared. A small crease formed between his brows, and in a moment, his cold expression was back. Why? He cleared his throat and turned to a man that was trying so hard not to grin, “Carius, take her to the car.” “Of course, your highness.” The man stepped forward, his grin still dancing on his lips as he bowed a little, “this way, my lady.” My eyes widened as I stuttered, “I’m…I’m no…lady..…I’m just…” His grin further widened and he turned, walking away. I didn’t want to embarrass myself further so I just clamped my mouth shut, my head bowed as I followed him outside. I ignored the shocked looks from everyone present, my mind still reeling from the kiss and the sudden change of the Alpha king’s mood. I couldn’t help but think this was too good to be true. The man, Carius, opened the car door and pointed for me to enter, “Just wait here, we’ll be back soon.” I bowed cringely back, pasting a smile I had no idea where I pulled from before entering the car. The moment I sat on it, every taut muscle in me lessened, the softness and perfectness of it warming my body up. The insides smelled like luxury, like it was meant for just greatness and people that deserved it. Not exactly for people like me. What had I done my entire life besides being rejected? “Suffered, Ilyana. You’ve suffered. We deserve this,” my wolf Elara mumbled happily. The door opened, jolting me out of my thoughts as the alpha King entered, his aura menacing and oozing from every part of his body. His glare was harsh and cold, and he flicked his eyes to mine just a bit before looking away. My heart was racing in my chest, not knowing what to make of this. Didn’t he just call me his? And also kiss me? Why was he also acting so cold like I was Alpha Theo? “Take that off.” He suddenly said, I looked at him, only to see his eyes drop briefly to my chest before returning to my face. “What…what do you mean?” “Your clothes. They’re wet.” His gaze lingered this time, slower. “Take it off.” My eyes widened. I was only wearing a bra under and I had no other thing to wear. If I take it off now, I’ll practically be half-naked. “Your….your highness…” “Are you shy?” I swallowed, my fingers trembling a little on my laps, different emotions racing in me, “no…. In a flash, he moved, seated now in front of me. He leaned forward, close. Too close. With a slight moment from either of us, our lips could touch again. The thought made something pool down inside of me, “We’re mates now, Ilyana.” He said quietly, His hand lifted slightly, hovering near my collarbone for a brief second, not touching. “Do you think your lips are the only thing I’ll be touching?” My heart skipped. The air in the room suddenly felt hot, stifling. I could hear my heartbeat, the sound so loud. My heart stopped as he leaned back and immediately removed his shirt and dropped it to my lap. My mouth watered at the sight of his chest. A necklace with a wolf head pendant sat on his neck, the wolf head tattoo covering half of it. His ribs, his muscles… I darted my traitorous eyes away quickly, unconsciously clenching my thighs. “I’ll let it go tonight. Change into that.” He said and suddenly closed his eyes. I hesitated for a minute, making sure his eyes were closed before unbuttoning my top and removing it, and placing it beside me. I picked up his shirt and wore it, and the moment it touched my skin, his scent was back and my wolf yearned inside of me, to feel him again, to smell it directly from his body. “You whore,” I mindlinked her, “stop it.” She purred sadly before shutting it down. He opened his eyes and checked me out, “Good. Now get some rest, it’s going to be a long ride,” he said flatly, spreading more into his chair and shutting his eyes. There was something different in his voice. Something distant. Something that made me feel like this was not the fairytale of my mate choosing me like I wanted. But if this was a fairytale that might come to an end, then I better enjoy it. The car. His scent. That kiss. Even this. I leaned back slowly, pulling his shirt tighter around me and drinking in more of his scent. He was my mate, and I’ll be lying if I didn’t feel something for him. And I’ve vowed, this would be my last rejection. So I’ll take whatever part of him he was willing to give before he rejects me just like the others do.ILYANA’S POVFor a minute, it felt like the world had stopped, leaving just Kael and I in it.“What?” I asked, wide-eyed and shocked. He didn’t falter, “Marry me. Be my wife.” he repeated. My mind was at a loss for words, spinning with nothing. How? Why? I frowned, not understanding, unable to comprehend.“I know it might come as a shock to you, and I don’t know when all of it started happening. But I can’t afford to lose you, not now or ever. I want to marry you and call you my wife, and invite every alpha to see that you now belong to me and I belong to you. Something has shifted, Ilyana. And I want it with you.”“Stay with me. Not just as my mate or as a breeder.” he said, and tears formed in my eyes from the warmth in his voice, “Not just as my Luna for the pack, but as my wife. Mine alone.”A happy sob tore out of me and I threw myself into his arms immediately. His words were beautiful, always too dreamlike, making it feel like they were not meant for me.“Yes,” I said, “Yes, I’
KAEL’S POVIlyana shook with terror as I carried her from the chair and set her on a sofa, patting her and making sure she was not alone. My wolf growled inside of me, angry and fuming at having put her in this situation.“What are you—” Maeve asked, but I snapped at her, “Do not even do anything right now.”I turned back to Ilyana who looked like she was now getting her senses back.“Ilyana, are you alright?”She didn’t answer, just staring directly at the priestess, her eyes wide and not blinking. She didn’t move, not a damn inch, as she just kept staring past me at the priestess.“Ilyana, talk to me.” I said, my voice getting sterner. I leaned forward and placed a kiss on her temple, but her eyes didn’t even budge towards me. Anger rose inside me as I blocked her line of vision, but her eyes were still not focusing on me.“Ilyana!” I snapped, using my alpha voice, and she immediately blinked in fear, jumping a little away from me as my heart recoiled. I hated this. I don’t ever wan
ILYANA’S POVI had no plans on leaving Atasha if I saw her in the dream, but I knew Kael was worried and I understood him. We were both important to him, and he was already planning on the outcome. But there was no outcome for me, Atasha cannot die. She’s my friend. My last living friend. And I’ll do whatever it takes to save her.For a while, I didn’t feel anything happening. The priestess’ grip on my hand was tight, and I held Atasha’s strongly but nothing was happening. Maeve was chanting something, her white orbs on mine. Something was off about her, about all of this, about the excitement I could feel coming from her but I put that all aside.Atasha was the priority. And if this would save her, then I’ll do it a hundred times if I have to.Suddenly Maeve’s chanting took a heavy turn, louder and faster, yet nothing happened.I didn’t want to ask but I opened my mouth only for someone to beat me to it.“Are you sure this is right? Nothing is happening,” Ryder said.Maeve did not an
KAEL’S POV“And is there any danger in this ritual?” I asked the priestess and she turned to me, “Not too much, Alpha. And even if there is, I’m sure your mate can handle it.”I growled inwardly, my body and self not fine with the idea of putting Ilyana through anything dangerous and most especially in the hands of the woman who knows that I have to lose her to prevent an upcoming war.“Is there no other solution besides this?”“No other that can wake the girl up as quick as this can. If we decide to try any other thing, I’m not sure she’ll still be alive by the time we’re done.”I clenched my jaw, my head and mind spinning.“I’m not putting her through this. We can find another way. Think, do anything, but not Ilyana,” I snapped at her.Ilyana faced me, “It’s fine, Kael. I’ll be fine, but we have to do this. For Atasha’s sake.”“No, you don’t have to,” I said gently, “We have the doctors, the priestess. I’m sure once they put their heads together, they can arrive at something other t
ILYANA’S POV“No,” the word left Kael’s mouth before it could even leave mine.I didn’t like the priestess, and the last thing I wanted was for her to get her hands on Atasha in any way at all. “Go in, do your jobs, wake my sister, by any means possible,” Kael said, his tone final, leaving no space for argument as the doctors rushed back inside.Carius sighed heavily, like he wanted to say something, but Ryder beat him to it, “What if we just call her to be sure? There’s no harm in trying.”“I agree with him,” Carius added.“I don’t want that woman touching Atasha.”“She’s not going to do anything to her, Kael. We’re all here. What would be the harm in trying?” Carius argued, “If you don’t know, there’s nothing Louise and the rest can do. It’s evident on their face. They’ve not seen this before.”“And what if there’s no priestess, would Atasha die?”“But there is one,” Carius shot back, eyeing Kael, “The point is to save Atasha, not let her die. Or don’t you agree, Ilyana?”They all t
ILYANA’S POVWe rushed from the packhouse to Atasha’s home, and the scene before us was scarier than Ryder had described. She was on her bed, shaking violently, but she wouldn’t wake up no matter how much anyone called her.“Get the pack doctor now,” Kael ordered, and Ryder bowed, leaving the room.I tried to shake her awake, “Atasha! Wake up! Wake up! It’s just a bad dream. Wake up!” But no matter what I said, it just got more violent, her body pulsing on and off on the bed. One minute she was shaking, the next she was lying so still, like she was just sleeping. The pack doctor arrived, all three of them, and ushered everyone out of the room. Kael was pacing back and forth. Carius just stood there, his expression unreadable, and Ryder was biting his nails.“Walk me through the incident before this happened,” Kael turned to Ryder, his expression cold and icy.He was back to his normal self, “We were together all evening, just joking and playing around…”My eyebrow lifted at playing ar
ILYANA’S POVI didn’t know how we got out of the tub, or how I got into the bed and slept off. I just knew I was unconscious, sleeping so well in a warm embrace until it felt cold and I had to open my eyes to check where my warmth was. I opened my eyes groggily, a yawn escaping my lips as I looked
ILYANA’S POVI’ve never felt as tired in my life as I feel right now. My body was on fire, my legs most especially. When Kael said run twice, I thought he was joking or not being serious, but he meant every single word. I was going to put in for Ryder tomorrow. No way was I going to continue this w
ILYANA’S POVI half expected Kael to be in bed with me the next morning, but when I woke up he was gone, the only trace of him was the warmth he left on the other side of the bed. I wasn’t happy about it. I couldn’t fully remember everything from last night, but I knew we talked, and I thought we h
KAEL’S POVThe alphas’ meeting dragged through the entire day, but not once was my mind inside that room. Their voices blurred into noise, their concerns drifting past me like smoke I couldn’t hold onto, because every time I tried to focus, Ilyana filled the space instead. The way I’d snapped at he
