Adrian POV

When morning came, I made my way back to Shadowfang Pack not with the imposing march of a King, but with the hurried steps of someone desperately trying not to be seen.

I was a mess. Dirt stained my skin, and my clothes were filthy and wrinkled. What was left of them, anyway. Since I couldn’t find my shirt, I had to dress my suit without anything underneath. And my appearance wasn’t the only thing in shambles.

My mind was in far worse shape.

Though I hadn’t been drinking, I couldn’t remember what had happened last night clearly. Everything became blurry the moment I was struck by that enthralling scent. Yet strangely enough, I remembered her vividly.

The mysterious girl I had found in the forest… She was the most magnificent female I’d ever laid eyes on. Beautiful, delicate, and so delicious. There was no doubt about it. She was my second chance mate.

Still, I shouldn’t have given into desire. It was a mistake. Pursuing her would have consequences. Allowing that night to happen had already put me in a tough spot.

And to top it off, my stupid wolf wouldn’t shut up.

“Mate! We need to find our mate!” he howled in agony, pacing frantically in my head.

“No, we don’t!” I barked at him. “You’ve done enough already. How dare you steal control of my body to mate with a she-wolf we don’t even know? You put our reputation at risk!”

“I don’t care about our reputation. All I care about is her!” he snapped back. “And I know who she is. She’s my mate. Mine! She’s ravishing, sweet, marvellous—”

“And a mistake!” I cut him off. He was so loud he was giving me a migraine. I couldn’t entertain this nonsense for another second. “Get your head in its place and forget about her.”

At last, he fell quiet, a low whimper leaving him as he lowered his ears. “How can you say that?”

Before I could answer him, I realized I had reached the guest cottage Alpha Ryan had prepared for me. I pushed the door in a haste, praying to find some silence inside. I’d completely forgotten my Beta was sharing the place with me.

“Morning, sunshi— Wow! Did you get hit by a train?” Dylan’s eyes grew wide, but not as wide as his smirk. “Or maybe… a hungry she-wolf?” he suggested, wiggling his eyebrows. “Did the mighty Alpha King get pinned by a female in heat? Who’s the lucky one?”

I normally tolerated his jokes, but the accidental accuracy of them struck a nerve this time.

“There’s no lucky one. I have no space in my life for anyone but my daughters,” I shot back instinctively.

I immediately regretted it as I watched the humor drain from his face, turning into understanding. It was obvious my seriousness had given away that he was indeed correct. If I’d played along, maybe I could have avoided the questions I knew would follow.

“Wait. Are you serious? Did you actually sleep with someone last night?” he asked quietly, but as his excitement rose, so did his voice. “Who is she? How was it? What are you gonna do now?”

“She’s my second chance mate but I don’t even know her name,” I deadpanned. Dylan’s jaw threatened to hit the floor. Before he could further pester me, I went on, “As for my plans regarding her, I’ll make sure to reject her if we ever meet again.”

I tried to keep my voice steady and confident as I said it, but to be honest, the idea of rejecting her made my stomach twist.

When my wolf stole control after he scented her, I gave into my most primal instincts. We didn’t just sleep together. I came very close to marking her. And that wasn’t even what unsettled me most.

It was the fact I’d slept so well beside her.

Ever since my first mate’s betrayal, I avoided women completely. I only had occasional one night stands, and threw them out as soon as the deed was done. I refused to share my bed with someone who could stab me in the back.

Yet this stranger… She made me feel safe. Relaxed. Like I hadn’t felt in years. Maybe she was different.

No. I couldn’t let these irrational feelings poison my thoughts. I had been burned once and learned my lesson. I wouldn’t fall for that again.

“Well, if you were actually present at your daughter’s engagement party, you wouldn’t be in this mess,” Dylan pointed out, pulling me from my thoughts.

I waved him off. “I don’t fit in these youthful celebrations.” A frown crossed my face. “Besides, I’m the one who killed Alpha Ryan’s father. Though he begs to differ, I know better than to believe he holds no resentment towards me. My presence would’ve only served to ruin their night.”

My Beta raised an eyebrow. “Then why did you agree to their union in the first place?”

“Anything my daughter wants, she gets. She’ll always have my support,” I replied promptly. “Ryan, on the other hand, should be careful. If he ever hurts my princess, I’ll make sure he suffers.”

“Alright, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?” Dylan said, trying to keep my temper under control. “For now, you should take a shower and rest. Don’t forget we’re meeting the groom and bride for lunch later,” he reminded me, tapping my shoulder as he walked past me. “I’ll give you some privacy.”

As my Beta left the room, I decided to take his advice and dragged myself straight to the shower. At first, I was thankful for a moment of peace and quiet. But the silence left space for my mind to wander.

I couldn’t keep my thoughts from drifting back to the mysterious girl. Flashes of our night together took over my mind, forcing me to remember her taste on my mouth and the fragrance of jasmine that stubbornly clung to my skin. And before I could stop it, one thing became clear.

I had to find her.

Elena’s POVAlong with the searing inferno, panic surged. Why was I going into heat right now? This shouldn’t be happening. Not so soon after my last one. Unless…My eyes widened in horror.Ryan must have mixed something into the champagne. As terror crept up my spine, I turned around just in time to find Ryan spitting out the sip he had taken earlier. He’d never swallowed it. My heart thrashed against my ribs as he wiped his mouth with the back of his arm before a sinister smile spread across his lips. Then he started walking towards me.“No! Stay back!” I screamed frantically, trying to crawl away, but another wave of liquid fire spread through my veins, locking me in place.“Why? I can help you, Elena,” he suggested huskily, crouching as he approached. A jolt shot through me as his fingers brushed my cheek. “Wouldn’t you like that?”“G-get away from me,” I stuttered.Though I was desperate to escape him, the rising temperature made me dizzy. My vision blurred until it seemed like

Elena’s POV“Elena! Elena! Goddess, where are you, you useless Omega?!” Fiona shrieked.I dragged myself towards her, tiredly replying, “Yes, my Lady?”“Finally! There you are!” She huffed. “This is not the time for you to slack off! My wedding is tomorrow!” she stressed. “Go get the last decorations. Bring them to the Grand Hall.”“Yes, my Lady,” I repeated automatically, almost robotically. For these days, I had pretty much become Fiona’s shadow. I barely got to spend time with Judy or my mother, as I had to follow the princess around everywhere. She constantly ordered me around, whether it was assisting the other servants or acting as her personal maid by bringing her food and whatever else she needed. At this point, I was starting to doubt if I could make it to tomorrow. As soon as I returned with the last, heaviest box of decorations, Fiona started barking in my ear again. “Elena! Where’s the guest list?”“I don’t know, my Lady,” I confessed exhaustedly. Her face turned red with

Elena’s POVOnce the Alpha King left the guest suite, I needed a moment to stabilize myself.Everything had been crazy intense from the moment he’d found my clothes covered in Ryan’s scent. From the fear that struck when he started yelling to the relief that followed when he finally believed me, my emotions were all over the place. Shaking my head to rid myself of the emotional whirlwind, I drifted through the hallway toward Adrian’s room. I felt nervous being there, so I moved straight to the closet, hoping to quickly pick something and leave as fast as I could.Yet I was stunned the second I opened the double doors. There were dozens of different outfits—more than I had ever owned—and this was only what he’d brought for his daughter’s wedding. Not only that, but each piece looked more expensive than the last. There were so many options, and none of them seemed fit for an Omega like me.What shirt should I even pick?“I like the white one,” my wolf suggested excitedly.“Why?” I curi

Adrian’s POVMy eyes locked on her, and my wolf went from enraged to hungry as I scanned every inch of her exposed skin. Beads of water rolled down her shoulders, making her skin glisten, and I caught myself wishing I was the one tracing her curves. She looked nothing short of divine. Before I could stop it, memories of our night together flooded my mind. I was transported back to the moment we met for the first time. She looked just as ravishing now as she did then. If only I could have her again, only to remember what she tasted like.“Mate! Claim her! Now!” my wolf roared restlessly inside my head, clawing underneath my skin as he tried to break free and do exactly what he was telling me to do.For a brief, fleeting second, I almost listened to him.I almost gave in to the temptation to relive what we had shared.Yet before I lost control, I held onto my anger and let it anchor me. I refused to let the poisonous matebond cloud my judgment again.“Why is Ryan’s scent all over your c

  • The Alpha King’s Unwanted Omega   Chapter 26

Elena’s POVMy legs and arms were trembling by the time I had made it back to the Alpha King’s guest house. Fiona’s dress was heavy, and carrying it for such a long way on an empty stomach had left me so light-headed I almost stumbled climbing up the stairs to the front door.I knocked twice, but received no answer. Since I was tired and just wanted to get this over with, I pushed the door open anyway, poking my head through the crack. There were guards stationed at the front of the entrance hall and busy servants cleaning the house, but no sight of Adrian.“Alpha King?” I called and waited, but got no response. In the end, I assumed Judy and her father must have not come back from training yet and entered the house quietly. The servants and guards eyed me with caution, but they knew I worked for the Alpha King now. No one tried to stop me as I dragged my exhausted self to Fiona’s room.Carefully, I set the dress down on the edge of her bed before flopping onto the floor. I just neede

Elena’s POV“Ah!” Ryan gasped, his hands flying to his balls as he stumbled back in pain.I didn’t miss my chance.Shoving him out of my way, I rushed to the door. Ryan tried to follow me, but the pain slowed him down. I made it to the door first, and he froze in his spot as I flung it open.“Get out! Now!” I ordered him.Ryan sneered. “Fine. I’ll wait for you outside.” As he walked past me, he whispered in my ear, “I can’t wait to see you in a wedding dress.”Once he was gone, I closed the door in a rush, locking it behind me. For a moment, I just stayed there, waiting for my pulse to even. The episode had left me shaken. My anger hadn’t completely subsided when I remembered I didn’t have much time. Fiona would be furious if I left her waiting any longer, and I was sure she would be telling her father about it. I couldn’t risk that.Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to walk towards the first dress. It was silvery-white, glistening under the light. The cut was elegant and sophisti
