LOGINAmanda's POV
“What did you just say?” Duncan demanded, finally standing from the bed, hastily dressing as if the words I had just spoken had jolted him out of the spell Kattie had wrapped him in.
Even Kattie froze, eyes wide in shock. Before, I had always clung to Duncan, never wanting to let him go, excusing his coldness and punishments, even when she was the one clearly in the wrong.
I had hoped, year after year, that he would change, that he would see me for who I was and accept me fully. But now, seeing him shift so violently at my defiance, I realized just how much control he had always held over me and how little of it had been mine.
“You’re an omega, Amanda. A servant as well, and an orphan with no one to fall back on. Without me, you’re nothing. How dare you speak to me in that manner?” he snapped, his words slicing through the air, laced with authority and venom.
“You rejected me three years ago, Duncan,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging in my chest. “I am only finally accepting that rejection. Why does that seem to rile you up?”
“Stop trying to act tough, Amanda. You and I both know that Duncan is speaking the truth. Just stay as he wants you to. Stop trying to provoke him. He wants you to remain his mate so don’t push your luck with emotional blackmail,” Kattie spat, rising from the bed, the mark on her neck blazing like a defiant challenge.
She had shifted her clothing just enough to reveal it fully to mock me.
“Shouldn’t you be happy with what I want to do?” I asked, voice cutting through the tension. “After all, you’d be the first person to benefit when your Duncan and I are free of the mate bond binding us together.”
Her face faltered, and for a brief moment, she had nothing to say. My words had hit home. She would indeed benefit, first and foremost, from my absence.
“Duncan, she’s right. Look at it this way,” Kattie spoke, voice trembling slightly as she attempted to reason with him. “She’s finally accepting the rejection, which is something we’ve always wanted. She…” But Duncan didn’t seem to want to hear any of it.
“You’re mine, Amanda, and you’ll only be free when I want you to be. If it’s because I marked Kattie that you’re acting this way, you need to understand why I did it. You’re wolfless, and I didn’t want the people to bully you. That’s why I took Kattie as my Luna. You still have all your rights as my mate, you…”
“Just stop it, Duncan!” I shouted, cutting him off. If it had been any other time, I might have been too happy to hear this from him, mistaking it for care or consideration. I would have believed that he truly saw me, that he had considered me.
Earlier today, I had even felt a flicker of hope, a stirring of my wolf, and I had wanted to tell him about the strength I felt coursing through me. I had imagined that he would mark me publicly, claim me at last, and that I would finally wolf out in response to the bond we shared. A tear streaked down my cheek, but I wiped it quickly, refusing to let him see it.
“You’re nothing without me, Amanda. And unless I give you permission to accept my rejection, a wolfless reject like you has no right to!” His voice had shifted now, dark and possessive.
He didn’t want me to accept his rejection. He didn’t want to lose his strength. He didn’t want to become weak. Three long years I had endured the agony of being rejected by him, clinging to the hope that he would accept me again. And now, the cruel irony of him not wanting that same pain settled in.
“I, Amanda Patrick, accept your rejection, Duncan. Our bond shall be annulled, and we are nothing together anymore!” I shouted, my voice steady despite the storm inside me.
“How dare you, Amanda?” Duncan roared, collapsing to the floor as the weight of my words hit him. Pain twisted his features, his body trembling in a way I had never seen him before.
“I am an alpha, and I have alpha blood in my veins! Do you think you can survive this rejection? Go down on your knees and apologize to me! If not…” His voice broke into a threat, though he could barely rise, clutching the floor, as Kattie scrambled beside him to help.
I winced at the sight, feeling a pang of sympathy but not nearly as deep as the years of pain I had carried in silence. I had suffered silently, enduring his rejection and disregard.
He had never acknowledged it. I had lived with the weight of every dismissal and nothing had come from my endurance.
And now he writhed on the floor, acting as if my words had struck him to his very core. I thought bitterly to myself. Why was Duncan acting as though the pain of rejection would kill him, when I had carried it for years without complaint? I had behaved better than this, despite being an omega, despite being “weak.” Did he realize, finally, that perhaps I was stronger than he was?
“Take back those words, Amanda!” he snapped again, blood flecking his lips as he coughed violently. “This is your last chance! I’ll mark you too. I’ll make you the Luna! Whatever you want!” His voice was raw with desperation now, crawling toward me, trying to reclaim what he had lost.
“What are you saying, Duncan? What do you mean by that?” Kattie questioned, pulling his face to her, but he shoved her away, pushing forward, his eyes focused entirely on me.
I had never expected it to be like this. Not that simply accepting his rejection would send him into such a state, making promises I no longer had any interest in. I felt a strange satisfaction, but also a weariness knowing that this was not truly him.
Footsteps approached behind me, and I turned to see the guards entering the room. And then, to my surprise, Duncan’s father appeared, his face twisted with disgust as he looked at his son.
“Why did you reject him, Amanda?” he snapped at me.
I stared at him, confused. His son had rejected me years ago. He knew it. He had only forced him to take me because of that rejection. He had known all along that his son would weaken if I accepted the rejection, and that was precisely why they had tried to make me stay, why they had tried to chain me to this life.
“I’ll be leaving the pack,” I said firmly, my voice echoing in the room, “since nothing ties me here anymore…”
“I’ll pronounce you a rogue, Amanda! I’ll term you an outcast and make everyone treat you like an outlaw if you dare leave! You know how they are treated like nothing!” Duncan spat, rage and fear mingling in his voice.
I was already used to being treated like nothing, so his threats barely registered. I glared at him, my silence a defiance he did not want to accept.
“Don’t let her leave the pack!” he suddenly ordered his guards, noticing how adamant I was. “If she dares leave this pack, I’ll have every member of your families beheaded!”
I froze, shocked at the cruelty of the threat but I did not bend. Years of being treated as nothing had steeled me. I had nothing left to fear from them, nothing left to lose, and everything to reclaim.
Ambrose's POV“How is she?” I asked as Thor walked up to me and he bobbed his head. “She’s doing alright. I offered to call in her personal maid but she insisted on staying alone..” he responded. “Why?”“I didn’t ask further..” he responded and I nodded. “First thing in the morning, make sure to bring in the very best healers to stand by in the palace. They’ll be around her until she carries full term, is that clear?” “Understood, your majesty..” “Now come with me. I have something important to do first.” I ordered and ge trudged behind me. As I walked through the rowdy hallways, everyone stood aside and lowered their heads until I walked through. The only thing I could think of at the moment was how I almost made the greatest mistake of my entire life. I almost let Jane ruin something I had been yearning to have for the longest… heirs. I could have fallen back to nothing if I let Jane manipulate my decisions the way she just did and I reeled with rage. If not for anything, fo
Amanda's POV I couldn’t believe what was happening right in front of me. I’d never even seen the maid in my entire life. I sent her to sell jewelry? This was Jane’s doing and it was as clear as day to me but surprisingly not to Ambrose. “I don’t know what she’s talking about.” I said. For some reason I was calm, panicking felt like a wild card to play so I stayed calm and kept my gaze fixed on Ambrose, my anger rising with each passing minute. I turned to the maid. “Why are you lying? I have never seen you before.” I said, my voice dripping with disdain. “No! You’re the liar.” Jane cut in, her red hair almost falling out of the bun she put it in. Ambrose stamped his feet hard on the ground and everyone went still. “Silence both of you.” He roared and I almost jumped out of my skin. He turned to me, his eyes piercing. “Do you have anything to say? How do you explain all this evidence against you?” He asked. I shook my head. “I have nothing to say you can go ahead and believe ev
Amanda's POV“My lady, where do I even start with my questions?” Emily groaned as she brushed my hair. I stared into the mirror and my reflection stared right back, almost unfamiliar. “I don’t think I have the answers you seek..” I muttered back. That’s untrue, but she doesn’t need to know that. My heart was heavy with a mixture of excitement and anger. Excited that I finally reached my wolf and not only did I transform, she spoke to me!Nothing on the face of this earth is able to rip the joy of that from me. As for the anger, I won’t rest until I find out why Kattie and Jane are now on the same team to the extent of planning an ambush and kidnap. Was I that much of a threat? Jane I could understand… but Kattie? Emily was done brushing my hair and held it up with some pins. I needed nothing more than to just lay in my bed and savor the beauty of my white wolf. But a knock on my door pulled me back to the present and I glanced towards it immediately. “Come in!” I ordered. Thor wa
Thor's POVLady Jane is someone I despised even more each time I saw her. And I hate that she parades herself around the castle like it belonged to her, like she didn’t reject King Ambrose for another man only to come running back like the world was hers. I remember how much the king suffered from this. The effect of the rejection tore him to shreds and just when he was recovering, just when he was starting to find something new she thinks she can ruin it. The news of her missing family heirloom was a ruse no doubt and so during the search, I kept my eyes on her the whole time. Following her every move and noticing the changes in her body language. Soon she spotted something in the grass, I stood behind a tree and watched her cover it up with leaves. After she left, I stepped out of my hiding and walked up to where she stood and there in the cold dirt lay Lady Amanda. “That vile woman.” I whispered but I knew better than to raise an alarm. If she was found at that moment, she woul
Ambrose's Pov As I got closer to the gates of my territory, a different kind of wind settled on my body and I let out a soft sigh. The castle was oddly quiet. Not that there used to be any noise before now, just that I felt a difference in the air. Darkness was creeping in faster and all I wanted was to freshen up and have dinner immediately. “Welcome his majesty, Alpha Ambrose!” Thor announced as I climbed out of the carriage and every servant halted, lowering their heads until I could see the center of each head. “Thank you Thor…” I muttered, patting his shoulder before handing him my coat. “Is dinner ready?” I asked the moment I walked in and the house keeper walked up to me. “Yes, your majesty.” She said and stepped aside. I went up to my room and had a quick cold bath before returning to the dining room. The sweet aroma of food watered my mouth and I dropped into my chair, diving into my meal without wasting any time. Halfway into dinner, I noticed the hall felt empty fo
Amanda's POVI turned into the majestic white wolf. The same one I thought had deserted me for good, it was there and I’d never felt more glorious. The rogues froze in place, their eyes wide with shock. Of course they knew what it meant to be a white wolf and I took a minute to relish in their surprise and disappointment. “I thought she was meant to be wolfless!” The leader growled, his voice cracking on the last word.No one responded, they were all too busy looking at me realizing they had made a mistake.“We must complete the mission, white wolf or not.” He spat. They were still going to kill me, I had to make a run for it. The leader’s voice cut through the silence and straight into my bones while I stood there thinking of a way out. “No one runs,” he barked, eyes locked on me. “She doesn’t leave here alive.” He added, taking a step closer. He dropped his head low, shoulders rolling. His body and bone muscle shifted under his skin with a wet, brutal sound that made my stomach
Amanda's POV I could hear the buying and snarling of their teeth as they surrounded me. I turned around, desperate for a chance to flee but there was no way out. They surrounded me. With the part of my sanity that wasn’t clouded by fear, I counted about seven of them. Three to my right, two to m
Ambrose's POVIt took us about an hour to reach the council territory after the messengers left. An hour of silence, dust, and the worst ride to a complete waste of my time. “Silliest news ever” barely described it. Thor rode beside me, jaw tight. Our four-man convoy kept a fast pace behind us, b

Amanda's POV I woke to bright light filtering in through the windows I usually never forget to close. Thin, gold rays cut across the room and found my eyes before I was ready for them. I pried them open, slow and gritty from sleep and my hand lifted on instinct immediately shielding my gaze. T
