Greta entered the room and began opening the curtains. Sunlight flooded onto my face, forcing my eyes to squint. My eyes were still puffy from the previous night.
“Good morning, darling,” Greta called as she busied herself with removing the dinner tray. She brought in fresh fruit and toast for breakfast. The wonderful aroma of fresh coffee and cream filled my senses. I stretched my arms and rose to fetch the cup.
“The King wants you ready. He’ll be up momentarily,” I heard her say. I shuddered at those words; my shoulders hunched over, tense and frigid.
Today, I assumed, would be worse than yesterday. I remembered his words from last night when he pulled the silver cuffs. A chill crept down my spine. Maybe he would only “do things” in the privacy of my room, I told myself. But I knew that was a lie. He would have me anywhere he pleased.
I walked to the bathroom and decided to clean myself up. When I came back out, Greta was gone but a blue gown with gold sequins was lying on my bed. I took a deep breath and began getting dressed. The gown was stunning; thin straps that met high at the back with an open back, plunging incredibly low to my bottom. The front draped along my breasts, exposing my cleavage.
The King had chosen this dress. I purposely left my long hair down to cover my bare back. Dealing with the Alpha was risky business and I knew I was walking a fine line. I’d follow his rules to keep myself alive, but I wouldn’t encourage him in any way. However, I couldn’t outright defy him either. He could easily snap my neck with one motion. I felt a fraction of his strength yesterday as he squeezed my throat. Effortlessly.
The lock clicked and I held my chin up, ready to face him. But instead, it was a face I’d never seen before.
“I’m Beta Braxton. I’ll be taking you to The King’s office,” a tall slender man said, matter of fact. There was no emotion on his eyes. He had a strong build with a mature face. Wrinkles were already imbedded into his forehead above his dark brows. He did not look directly at me. Maybe the King had instructed his men to leave me alone. Well, that was a relief. I frowned as he pulled out the two small cuffs and placed them snuggly around my wrists. They were cold against my skin and I winced when I heard them fasten.
Slave ... I reminded myself.
“Take note of the castle. We may need to know our way around if we get a chance out,” Lily alerted.
As we left the room, I noticed several rooms before heading to a staircase. I glanced behind and it looked like there was another exit on the opposite end of the hall.
Voices filled the main corridor as we made our way to the next floor. Men and women turned their heads to look at me; their conversations hushed. I ducked my head down and tried to make myself smaller.
Did they know who I was? Did everyone in the pack know my purpose here? Heat filled my cheeks and felt my hands go clammy. The Beta led us down more hallways until we reached a room to the far end with wide double doors.
The room was enormous with high vaulted ceilings. The entrance to the office was lined with bronze statues of wolves. Swords and weaponry covered the walls. The clicking sound of my stilettos hit the floor with each step, announcing my arrival. His Beta closed the doors behind me as I walked in. A nagging feeling of dread fell over me.
The Alpha King sat behind his desk, head crouched over paperwork and ledgers. It was only the two of us. The thought of being alone with this man was unnerving. My stomach lurched, doing somersaults the longer I waited for him to acknowledge me.
“I’m here, sir,” I said, impatiently, nipping at my bottom lip. My fingers began fidgeting with the hem of my dress.
Without looking up, he said, “My King. Address me correctly.”
I scoffed.
“You’re not my King. You have taken me from everything I’ve ever known. You’re a monster!” My small voice was thick with venom. The room enveloped me... this man terrified me but I didn’t care. He was a bully and I wasn’t letting him intimidate me.
He set the papers down and rose from his desk, eyes darkening. I didn’t remember him this big last night; his build seemed to grow larger the closer he came. Even in heels, his shadow dominated me. My head sat below his chin, and I had to peer up to meet his cold dead eyes. But I refused to back down.
“Little dove, you have no idea what things I’ve done... in this very room. Monster? Do you want me to show you a monster?” And with a growl, he ripped his clothes off and his wolf began to emerge. His body was already massive, but the Lycan beast emerging was three times bigger. Its arms and legs swelled like a roaring tide and it swallowed the space with its enormous body. Black mangled hair shot from its skin and its mouth extended angrily, growling as its canines protruded.
I jumped back with a scream. It slowly walked around, encircling me in its snare. I cringed and held my breath as it began sniffing at my feet. Starting up my calves, it nudged its nose up my dress, snarling. Claws suddenly slashed violently up my dress, ripping the pieces up my left thigh. I cried out as I felt its talons pierce the flesh. It began moving up my side towards my neck, salivating. Its tongue licked my open neck and I hurried to cover it; afraid the beast would mark me.
A loud growl bellowed from the monster and the Alpha shifted back into form.
***GiselleNow if my time in this prison wasn’t bad enough, it was maintained by the Devlin Brothers. Rumored to be five of the most cocky and arrogant country boys, who ruled this desert with a cracked whip and iron fist… hence the name, Iron Claw.I had only met three of the brothers so far – Jacob, Gavin, and Asher. They often reminded me that my mouth… the venomous words spewed from my lips wouldn’t be tolerated. But what they didn’t understand was – I didn’t follow by their rules nor anyone else’s. And I wouldn’t be intimidated by these assholes. They didn’t scare me one bit.“Let’s go, princess. Beautiful morning, isn’t it?” Gavin Devlin taunted, glaring down at me from dark tinted sunglasses. He handed me a cup of water as he opened the door of the Blue Box, where I had slept the entire night before. I snatched it from his grasp and chugged the remains with a sneer. If I wasn’t so thirsty, I would have spit it back in his smug little face while he grinned like a Cheshire cat.
***GiselleAll night, I had been in this shit heap. The Blue Box.Every time I got in a fight – box. Every time I mouthed off – box. Every time I refused to do chores fit for a slave – box, box, box. But when they pulled me out, my face flushed red with an impenetrable fury and always… the same ragged snarl. Same nail-biting sneer emerged. To remind them who I was.The unbearable heat of the July sun rolled in, sweltering and thick, searing the skin from my back. Pools of sweat soaked through my top as my blistered and calloused hands wrapped around the bars of my mini jail cell. But if the men of Iron Claw thought they would break me, they had another thing coming. This was a work pack, the lowliest of the packs where criminals and convicts were set to work the mines and suffocate in the grueling summer blaze. It barely rained, almost never cooled. Only a glimmer of a breeze passed once nightfall finally came. But by then, your body ached and muscles cramped, nothing that a br
***AriesOur wolves frolicked and ran through the forest for hours. After shifting back, we cooled off by wading in the calming pool as the falls fell at our backs. We explored each other’s bodies once again and found ourselves naked on the grassy shore, wrapped in each other’s arms. The sun warmed the glistening beads of water from our skin and I traced my fingers along the tattoos stretched down his arms. We watched as the radiant hues stretched across the edging horizon. No fear swelled in my chest. No anxiety of the witch’s return panicked my insides as it neared sunset. It was only the two of us. Finally together. He kissed my forehead and pulled me closer, as if reading my thoughts. My mind was quiet, as serene waves washed over and tickled my feet. I placed my lips softly upon his, bathing in his warm caress. I laid my head on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart. His hands began fumbling with the wet strands of my hair.“Are you… are you playing with my hair?
***AriesFather walked me to the foyer. Bandages wrapped around his back, pulling tight across his shoulder. He embraced me and offered a half smile. I placed a hand on his arm; I didn’t need an escort for what was about to happen. I turned, lifting my chin and walked through the double doors, out through the entrance where she waited.Giselle.She tilted her head up. Those furious eyes glared at me. Soldiers stood beside her, one on each side, as her gaze raked over me with disdain. Voice sneered, “If you’ve come for an apology, you’ll be waiting a long time.”My face was void of any emotion, silent and still. Calm washed over me and I smiled.“Not at all. I’ve come to thank you. Had you not enlisted the help of the Shadow Boys, I never would have found Reinn. He was the one person that could have killed the witch and released me from this curse,” I gleamed, my eyes dazzling with victory. She scowled.I continued, “But you… you’ll never be free of whatever Hell you’ve chosen. You’re
***ReinnI pressed my head to her throat, buried myself in the familiar scent of my mate. Her skin had already grown cold against my mouth. I lapped anxiously at her wound, metallic grit coating my tongue. But it wasn’t working. She wasn’t waking… wasn’t responding. Her lips turned blue. Her flesh paled, the flush of her cheeks waning.“Please Goddess! Please save my Aries!” I begged the heavens above. She was too good, too pure to die now. I had defeated the witch, cursed her to this forsaken place for all eternity but still, Aries hadn't come back to me. My hands trembled as they curled around her pallid face. Blood covered my hands as I smeared trails across her chin. I pulled her to my bare chest, enveloping her with all the warmth and energy I could muster. The Luna ran to me, dropping to her knees at the sight of her bloodied child. She held Aries’ hand as she cried into her palms. Her eyes pleaded with mine, to do something. To save her. The Luna had just gotten her back... all
***ReinnThe Luna screamed a blood curdling cry as her arms clung to him. He crumpled to the floor and she followed suit, unable to keep him upright.Linc and I rushed to his side as I peeled off my shirt, applying pressure to the wound. But the blood kept coming, a river of red painting the ground under him. Pained groans murmured from his mouth as the Luna wailed beside him. His skin paled. The shock in his eyes, to see the witch attack in his daughter's very own skin.“You monster,” I hissed. Red only tilted her head, amused. She pulled a vial from her dress and placed it on the altar. I lowered my gaze, pretending to remain occupied with the Alpha as she took off the top and placed it to her lips, swallowing the contents. Within seconds, Red began to seize, shaking violently as she fell to the podium floor. I raced up the altar.“Gemini, do you feel her? Do you feel Aries’ wolf?” I urged, legs mounting the steps two by two.“Barely. It won’t be long.” That meant any moment I woul

***AriesI was worried about having to confront Giselle but to my surprise, she was already gone by the time I left for school. Emma pulled up to the house and her eyes spoke volumes.“Well, a little tongue, a little fondling and look who’s out of the box,” she smirked, eyeing my plaid skirt hiked
***AriesMy feet were dirty, tired and caked in debris. When I finally found my way out of the forest, I followed the gravel road back home. Every time headlights came around the bend, I hid in the bushes. I didn’t want to see Dallas… couldn’t face Giselle. Hell, I couldn’t deal with anyone right n
