Exhaustion clung to me like a second skin, draining every last ounce of strength I had left. I could barely stand, barely think—completely at his mercy.

“I’ll take care of you after that ugly excuse of an alpha rejects you,” he murmured, his voice thick with cruel amusement. “You’ll be a good girl then… and warm my bed. Won’t you?”

My breath hitched as his hand rose, fingers brushing the neckline of my dress with deliberate slowness. The touch felt like poison crawling beneath my skin.

“Maybe I should make things easier,” he went on, his lips curling into something vile. “If I mark your body just enough, that beast will smell me on you and reject you instantly.”

A low chuckle escaped him. “No one wants something that’s already been used.”

My hands curled into fists, nails digging into my palms until they stung, but the pain barely grounded me.

Carter and I… we had shared something once. Something real. But after he unmarked me, it was as though it had all been erased—as though I had been given a clean slate. Untouched.

But if this man followed through with his threat… there would be no hiding it. Anyone would be able to smell him on me.

Before I could react, his hands gripped my sleeves and tore through the fabric.

I shoved at him with everything I had left. “Get off me!” I struggled, my voice breaking, but it was useless. He didn’t even budge. I was nothing compared to him now.

“No! Stop it!” I swung at him, aiming for his face.

He caught my wrist mid-air.

Pain shot through my arm as he twisted it mercilessly, pressing down on the already bruised spot. A cry tore from my throat, sharp and helpless.

My body was weaker now—ever since I lost my wolf, I didn’t heal the way I used to. And he knew it. He used it.

With a rough shove, he sent me stumbling backward.

I crashed onto the floor, the impact knocking the air from my lungs. A whimper escaped me before I could stop it.

Then I looked up at him.

And my blood ran cold.

I'm totally exhausted

For just a second… I saw it.

His wolf flashed in his eyes.

“You are mine to ruin… so you might as well accept it.”

His voice was low, almost amused, and it made my stomach twist. The smile on his lips was cruel—like he was enjoying every second of my fear.

Before I could move, his foot came down hard on mine.

Pain shot through me instantly.

A scream tore from my throat as black spots flooded my vision, the room spinning violently around me. My knees buckled, and I swayed, barely able to stay upright.

Everything felt distant… fading.

Was this it?

Was there really no escape for me?

My lips trembled, heavy and numb, as tears slipped freely down my cheeks.

“It’s okay…” I whispered to myself, my voice fragile, barely there. “luana… just relax… it will be quick…”

The words felt like surrender.

Like I was already giving up.

Then—

The door burst open with a deafening bang.

The sound shattered the moment.

A figure stormed in like a force of nature, his presence swallowing the room whole. Before I could even process what was happening, he grabbed the man and slammed him against the wall with brutal force.

“Get the hell away from her, you piece of shit!”

My heart lurched violently in my chest.

Through my blurred vision, I tried to focus on him—on the stranger who had just stepped in like a storm.

And then I saw his face.

Kyle.

Relief hit me so suddenly it almost hurt.

My body trembled as I struggled to stay conscious, my gaze locked on him. Even in my weakened state, I could feel it—the raw, suffocating power rolling off him in waves.

The air grew thick, heavy with dominance.

Terrifying.

Overwhelming.

Any other werewolf would have dropped to their knees without hesitation.

My fingers curled weakly against the floor as a thought forced its way through the fog in my mind.

My mate…?

My lips parted, and before I could stop myself, the words slipped out in a broken whisper—

“Is he… my mate?”

The room fell into a strange, heavy silence.

For a brief moment, something shifted in Kyle’s expression—something dark, something unreadable.

And suddenly… I wasn’t sure if I should feel safe.

Kyle's brows knit together, irritation flickering across his face. "I was passing by and figured I'd—" he started. Gina cut him off with a lilting voice. "Oh, just passing by? What a stunning coincidence."Kyle's tone dipped into a warning edge as he shot back, "Don't interrupt me while I'm talking." But Gina stayed unbothered, seemingly untouched by his commanding presence — or maybe simply too stubborn to care, and the latter felt closer to the truth. She rolled her eyes and turned toward me. "I'll leave you two be, Luana. Something tells me he didn't come all this way just to say hi. Isn't that right, brother?"Kyle defended himself. "I was coming back from the office." Gina kept needling him. "Ah, the workaholic alpha, slipping out of his office so early. How fascinating."A smile tugged at my mouth as I watched the two of them trade jabs. It struck me as strange, compared to the rest of the family — they bickered like any ordinary brother and sister."Just leave already," Kyle mu

There was clearly more to Gina than what showed on the surface — a sharpness that matched Kyle's own, maybe even exceeded it."I have no intentions of causing him any harm," I told her firmly. She merely scoffed, unconvinced."Words don't guarantee anything." She spun on her heel and swept out of the store, leaving an uneasy quiet behind her. The Masons, I was learning fast, were not a family that put you at ease.We ended up at one of the mall's cafés. Gina ordered two burgers before turning her attention fully on me. "I can't quite figure you out," she said, leaning in, arms settling on the table as her eyes raked over me.My head tilted before I could stop it, my pulse hammering. "What do you mean?"Like something pinned under a microscope — that's exactly how her stare made me feel, picked apart without mercy."You're brave," she mused, almost casually about it. "But there's an enigma to you." The word hung there, teasing. Her tone shifted, grew more probing. "I picked out outfits

She raised her brows. "You are so strange. Malls are honestly the best places on earth." She turned and made her way toward the security check. Security check? My hand moved instinctively to the pocket of my coat dress, pressing against the spot where I had hidden my antidepressant bottle. If it were discovered during the screening, Gina would find out without a doubt. Hello? Luana, are you even there? Are you coming?Gina waved me over, nodding in the direction of the security line. A cold sweat broke out across my forehead. The mall's security measures were no small thing — officers were methodically checking every person who entered, going through their belongings with careful attention. Was this place so prominent that it called for such rigorous screening? I managed a thin smile and forced my feet to move. We joined the short queue, and it quickly became clear that this mall catered to a rather affluent crowd. My heart knocked against my ribs like a warning as we shuffled closer

"You have to make sure you steal the show." I swallowed hard and gave a reluctant nod. "Oh, alright." She clapped her hands together. "Perfect. Now let's find you something worth wearing."I followed her into her room, and nothing could have prepared me for what lay beyond that door. The space was nothing short of opulent. Soft light pink wallpaper dressed the walls, while a neon pink sign on the left boldly declared Boss Babe to anyone who dared enter. At the heart of the room stood a lavish round bed, buried beneath a cloud of fluffy pillows in varying shades of white and black — a tiny tiger soft toy nestled proudly among them. Overhead, the ceiling stole the breath clean from my lungs, painted to resemble a pink galaxy scattered with tiny, twinkling stars that seemed to float in place. As my eyes roamed the room, Gina swept open a set of double doors, unveiling what could only be described as a fashionista's paradise. Her walk-in closet was a spectacle in itself. The racks, crisp

Our conversation, however, came to an abrupt halt at the sound of an unfamiliar voice."And who exactly is going to take her shopping? You?" The voice belonged to someone leaning against the doorframe, and the moment we both looked up, my breath caught. Of all people — it was Gina. She strolled in as though she owned the place, dragging a chair over and dropping into it across from us. Kyle's jaw tightened visibly. He didn't bother masking his irritation."What are you doing here?"She pierced a chunk of her salad with her fork and answered flatly, "Eating breakfast. Obviously."His eyes narrowed. "I was under the impression you'd joined the breakfast boycott committee."Gina chewed slowly, unbothered. "That's on them. I never agreed to stop having breakfast with everyone." A quiet smile pulled at the corner of my mouth. Honestly, I was glad she had shown up. I'd been carrying a weight of guilt over how Kyle's family seemed to be drifting further from him — and somehow, I felt respons

Money was a crucial factor for my future survival here. It was not only necessary for covering my daily expenses, but also for building a solid financial foundation that could carry me through the uncertainties ahead. I needed a stable source of income — something reliable, something I could count on when everything else around me felt so fragile and unpredictable. The question gnawed at me constantly, threading itself through every waking thought like a needle pulling at loose string. But how could I ensure that? How could someone like me, in a position like mine, carve out any real sense of security in a place that still felt so foreign? My thoughts came to an abrupt halt as I stepped out of my room and found Kyle waiting for me in the hallway. The sight of him standing there, calm and composed, sent a sudden rush of warmth crawling up the back of my neck. Memories of our actions from the previous night flooded my mind in an unstoppable wave, vivid and uninvited, and I struggled des
