It's another morning and it came with another news of death. I yawned and stretched my body, waking up is the hardest moment of my day. The second hardest moment is leaving my bed but responsibilities can not be overlooked. Going through my early morning routine, I wondered out loud to myself, ‘who is it this time? It has to be someone really important if the news of his death has warranted the alpha setting up a meeting early this morning with the elders”. “Well, yes. It's the commissioner in charge of intercontinental trade, Mr Cassian and his corpse, or what remained of it was found close to our security post”, my maid responded. I startlingly turned to look at her, unaware of her arrival . “Our security post? How did his body arrive there and our security didn't see the killer or the attack? How do we explain this to people? We ought to fire everyone on the security team, this is outrageous”, I replied, my voice laced with a bit of anger. “Um, Ma. Are you ready to go? The meeting is almost beginning and the alpha sent me to get you”, she said. “Yeah, I am almost done. Just come help me with my dress and we will be good to go”, I announced. She came up to me and in no time, I was looking like a true Luna, one who is never found lacking in her alpha’s side. I grabbed what I needed and rushed out of my room, with my maid behind me, bound for the conference room. “If I am done by the time my kids wakes up, send in their nanny to prepare them for school and stop by the kitchen to make sure their breakfast and lunch is ready for them to take with them”, I ordered “Yes ma'am, I will do just that”, she replied. “Leave! I know the way to the conference”, I added, causing her to abruptly stop and turn, leaving me with a few seconds to mentally prepare myself. ‘The death rate of both wolves and humans is sky rocketing these past few months, in fact , this is the third body this week. I sighed… Unfortunately, there all have one thing in common, which is ,some sort of connection to the alpha of blackthorn's pack, who , double unfortunately, is my beloved husband and I have no choice but to support him in this trying times’, I sighed loudly as the door of the conference room loomed closer. ‘Time to be the best wife out there’, I whispered to myself and pushed open the door, boldly stepping into the room. There was so much ruckus, the tension palpable, frustration etched on the faces of everyone in the room, especially my husband. Perfect I went to him, my arms opened to hug him and he rushed into me, his body begging for relief. I dropped kisses everywhere I could, following it with words of comfort and encouragement. He disengaged from me after a while, his eyes holding so much pain and confusion. “I don't know what's going on, the body was found by our security post. How do I make sense of this?”, he whispered, his voice breaking a little. “Isn't there any footage of what happened or are our security cameras not working anymore? “, I asked with a whisper and he shook his head. The door opened behind me and most of our security personnels trudged in, each of them visibly unhappy to be there. “Let's begin”, the beta announced and everyone took their seat, silence descending on the room. “How? How in God's name did this happen close to the post and none of you know nothing about it? Or even saw anything?”, I threw the questions at the guards. No one answered and that cause the alpha to finally snap, banging the table as he shot out of his seat, threatening, “I will pick one of you dumb and useless twinks every single day and personally tear off your heart and feed it to your families until someone gives me something, anything that explains why the man I escorted out of my pack yesterday was lying in pieces close to the post, the same post where most of you were positioned”. One of them visibly gulped and shivered. I stood up too, walked up to them and asked them to leave and they hurriedly did so “What did you do that for? We need them here”, Julien protested and I explained, “I don't think we do, especially if we need to move forward in this investigation. Having them here will keep taunting and pushing us to anger”. I went back to my seat and sat down, “now, let's talk about the situation at hand. We have a killer or killers that is targeting my husband,” I looked at him in time to see him settle back down, “or the people that have connections to him and it is not just ruining everything for us, it's destroying the pack. Cutting all of our chances at growth and peace, creating tension within us and it has gone on for too long. I can't bear this anymore and I am scared for my boys' lives. I'm scared they will go out there and I will never see them again. So, let's fix this before it destroys us completely as a pack”, I finished . No one reacted. “She is right, I am the alpha of this pack and it's my responsibility to see it in the best possible structure I can build it to be but with the recent deaths going on, it is getting close to impossible to achieve that.”, my husband said and nods accompanied his speech. Misogynistic fools!!! “We have involved the police, the CIA and every other security system available in and outside the country and still yet , nothing! We have nothing!”, complained the beta. “We at least know the killer's motive and it's 99% revenge. He or she is not attacking you directly, but it is evident in the way the person foils all your plans. Can you possibly guess who might be responsible for this? Got any enemy, a list of them? The best ones usually do”, someone said and suddenly, all eyes were on my husband including mine. Think deeply, think. He gave his best expression of being deep in thought for so long, I almost grabbed him by the neck. Speak already, do you have that many? “I can't think of anyone”, What??? “I have conquered everyone that had something against me. I didn't become alpha of this pack by being weak and I didn't stay alpha of this pack by letting my enemies live. I slayed everyone of them, I serve them their worst nightmare on a platter of bones and forced them to feed on it”, he said Oh really “Oh ok”, the beta replied, “so hypothetically, you have no enemies then this person could be the enemy to the pack. We have to investigate every other pack, tear into each and every one of them until we find who is responsible for this.”. “Unless”, someone else started, “unless, the person is among us. Look at the pattern of the killings, it is every person the alpha has tried to connect with in terms of financial growth of the pack and most of these meetings happen outside of the pack. In fact, it mostly happens without the knowledge of almost everyone here, so how is this person aware of the alpha's movement? It's obviously an insider, someone very close to the alpha, trusted blindly by the alpha and the person might not be the killer, he … oooor she might just be an informant”, he finished and slowly, all eyes turned to the beta, even kael was staring at him with a hint of distrust. “Wait”, the beta bit out, “wait for two bloody minutes and ask yourself “, looking pointedly at the alpha, “ what do I have to gain? I have known kael ....the alpha since birth, grew up with him and somehow, I'm supposed to be doing this to him? Why? I ask again, What do I have to gain? I can't even become the alpha if I ruin this for him. I'm not the informant nor the killer and I want you all to bear that in mind”. “Why are we blaming the beta when we have the Luna?”, a fool pointed out and I scoffed. Yeah right! “Do I have to prove myself to you all like the beta did or will your brain work for a few seconds and be reminded that the alpha is my husband and the pack is my pack and if it fails, I fail”, I answered, my face in a scowl. “Is this what we are gathered here to do? Point fingers at each other? Apportion blames and accuse my closest of being the ones behind my downfall? Huh? I barely even know everyone here on this table , any of you could be the killer, any damned one of you could be the informant but I don't care. All I care about is that we put our hands and heads together to get to the root of this problem and deal with it once and for all. That's all I ask of you, not your support, not your advice, nothing from any of you , I just want to know who is behind this so I could snuff out the life out of them. Now , everyone leave , except the beta and my wife, and for the rest of you, I need information before this day runs out”, the alpha announced. The rest of the men rushed out of the room while I stayed seated , watching them leave and when the last of them closed the door after him, I turned to look at my husband to find him watching me intensely. I stared back and waited but nothing. It lasted this way for minutes before the beta cleared his throat causing me to glance at him. “Why”, the alpha blurted. “Huh?”, I couldn't help but say, my brain coming up with different scenarios. “Why do you stick so close after everything?”, he asked and I smiled Don't you know? “Why won't I? After everything we have built? After loving you so much? Why won't I?” I answered and he smiled. I guess the whole thing is starting to get to him if he is starting to get sentimental about everything. “Thank you”, he said, reaching for my hands and squeezing it lightly. I smiled warmly at him. “Ummm, is there a reason why I am here sir or do I need to leave the room for the both of you”, the beta’s voice broke through. “No, no. Stay. I have a few instructions for you but I need you to get me through to the governor and set up a meeting with him. I need resources from him if I need to get to the root of this. Make sure you choose a place that is assuredly safe. I also need you to get me through to the family of the dead man and source out everything we need for a condolence visit. And, find a way to settle the unrest that is spreading through the pack, I want my people to feel safe”, kael finished. “Yes alpha, is there anything else?”Julien, the beta asked. “No, now leave. I will let you know if I do have anything else for you to do”, the alpha replied. The beta rose immediately and left the room. I was yanked into the lap of my husband the second the door closed properly. “I miss you”, he whispered and I blushed. “I am not the one travelling all over and ignoring his sweet wife”, I threw at him and he chuckled. “I know, I know and I'm sorry but you know why I had to travel a lot. I have a lot to fix but I am here now and I will make the most of this moment”, he gruffly said and I giggled. Shit, I can feel him hard under me “Now?”I asked and he nodded before dipping his head to capture my lips, his hands roaming around my body and easily removing my clothes that took two people to put on.
