The loud sound of music echoed in my ear and the club lights kept reflecting in my direction, but all that mattered to me was having fun that night and for once, forgetting I existed in a crazy world.
"A glass of whiskey please," I said to the bartender and rested my elbows on the counter.
I need to be drunk. They say alcohol helps, and I need that help at that moment. When I thought everything was falling into place, it was ruined before it even started.
I rolled my neck with my eyes shut, and I never noticed when she sat beside me.
"Here you go, ma'am." The voice of the bartender forced my eyes open but before I could pick the glass up, she snatched it away and replaced it with a glass of apple drink with little alcohol.
"C'mon sis, we aren't here to get drunk. We are here to have fun and you want to ruin it? You have a date with Kelvin tomorrow. You need to be lightheaded."
Right, I need to be light-headed and not get my planned date ruined with a hangover.
I picked up the drink she offered and took a sip from it. "I apologize. I just needed something to clear my head off my work." I moved my hand across my face and sighed deeply. "So many things are happening right now and they are so much for me. Why should my life be this miserable?" I questioned and batted my lashes, trying to blink my tears away.
Kimberly pushed closer and placed her hand on my shoulder, "That's why you need to get happy this night. Just watch everything and let's have fun. Go ahead, allow the drink to sink in."
I picked up the glass of juice and took a gulp. It tasted good. Kimberly is the only sister and friend I had. I lost my mother at birth and my father got married to another woman who has been the best mother I could ever ask for. I am ready to do anything for this family of mine.
My boss, Noah Grande has decided to make my life a living nightmare. He doesn't find anything I do worthy, even though I am his fiance's sister. He always finds a way to make my day terrible and recently, he threw my project, which I spent many sleeplessness working on, away. I mean, it was perfect and every other person testified. He just wasn't satisfied.
I emptied the glass and pushed my head back as a smile registered on my lips. I don't know if it's because of the drink or a sudden spell, but I felt so lightheaded. Like everything in the world doesn't matter.
I was in a different world and not walking, but flying. I was in a world of my own. I laughed and shut my eyes.
"I love this feeling. I suddenly feel so good Kimberly." I laughed and spread my arms out.
"What are you talking about? What is happening to you, Rachel?" I heard Kimberly's voice but it seemed distant. No right words for an answer were formed in my head. I wanted to say something but laughed instead.
"This drink had a little alcohol. I shouldn't have told the bartender to mix a booze with it. I forgot how intolerant you are." I heard her say again, but her voice was coming from different directions and I couldn't tell where she was.
I felt her hold my hand tight, "I need to take you to a room." She said again and led me to who knows where.
She opened the door and led me in. "Go sit down Rachel. I need to get our bags and call a cab. The inside is noisy right now. Please do not leave. I will be back, I promise." She said and left, locking the door.
I am all alone. I don't know what to feel about that, but I needed to do something. I felt as though I was in the middle of an ocean, walking on the surface of the water. I feel so free.
I staggered to the bed and made to sit, but I fell on a body. The lights came on immediately. I forced my heavy eyes open and raised my brow. Beneath me was a man, staring at me with open eyes.
Not just any man cause I recognized him immediately. It was Noah Grande. I gasped and pushed my face away from getting close to his. Noah Grande, Kimberly's fiance and my boss at work. What was he doing in the room anyway? Did he suddenly appear? Was he a ghost?
"Rachel?" He questioned and laughed. "What are you doing here?"
I should have gotten away from him, but there I was, still lying to him. "You evil boss, we meet again." I couldn't control my words. I let them out freely, not bothered about the consequences.
He laughed out and wrapped his arm around my waist, bringing my body closer to his. I should push him away. That's my sister's fiance. My brain kept screaming at me, but I shut the voice down. I could feel in-between my legs getting soaked and I guess, he had the same feeling as mine. I could feel a bulge pressing into my stomach.
This is bad!
"Should we stop? I don't know what is wrong with me right now, but I won't be able to stop myself." He whispered into my ear and kissed my earlobe. I shook my head, giving him the go-ahead to do as he pleased.
He drew closer to me and placed his hand on my butt cheeks, giving it a gentle squeeze. He is my boss and my sister's fiance. What am I doing? Kimberly would be back up in no seconds. I would be dead if she caught me with him. I need to go away. I need to force myself away from him.
"Kimberly-" I tried to call out, but I wasn't sure my voice was loud enough to his hearing. We will both regret this in a few minutes or when we wake up in the morning after we see the hurt look on Kim's face.
She was on her way back to the room. I can feel it. Noah suddenly pushed me to my back on the bed and laid on top of me. He kissed my neck and whispered into my ear. "Now there is no coming back."
Marcus arrived at Lion Skye Bank just in time. The very moment he stepped his foot in the bank building, he saw how everyone was looking at him like they were shocked about something.“So, he has been having sex with Josephine all along in the office?!” he heard a whisper from one of the employees whom he just walked past. But he said nothing. He walked right to the HR’s office. If any decision was made in their bank branch, there was no way it wouldn’t pass through Luke’s desk.“My goodness. Thank God you are here early,” Luke said immediately as Marcus barged into his office. He rose to his feet, tucked in his shirt more, better held Marcus’ shoulder.“When I read the email that they were going to terminate your employment with the bank, I called you several times, but your line was not reachable. What are we going to do now? Your sack letter is on my desk. Take a look.” He lied.Luke knew he was the one who gave Vivian the evidence to terminate Marcus’ employment with the bank. It w
Seeing this unknown number, Josephine called it immediately to know whom it might be. “The number you are trying to call is currently switched off. Please try again later,” she heard a robotic feminine voice sound at the other end of the phone. With this, she racked her head further, thinking about whom the caller might be. And that it was odd for a number who just called her to be switched off, right?“Or was it Marcus calling me with an unknown number?” the thought sounded in her mind immediately, but at the same time, Josephine knew Marcus's typical behavior. The text doesn’t sound like how he used to behave. But then, she doesn’t know him anymore, and he could still be the one, right? She minimized the call app and launched the Play Store app at once!In the search area, she launched her keyboard and typed “Truecaller.”Back at the bank she worked before she was sacked, she had always listened to Bianca talk about how she used the Truecaller app to fish out people who called her w
Seeing how muscular Julian was against him, Marcus stepped back. His heart raced a bit.He said nothing at this moment, and Julian said nothing as well but continued to stare dangerously at him.Knowing fully well that he could not go against this guy, Marcus awkwardly stepped away and walked into his car parked alongside the road. Hence, as he got into his car, he screamed like a frustrated man who couldn’t get what he wanted. He beat his steering wheel as if it was the one responsible for his misery. And just then,“I won’t back out like this,” he murmured.“You have my child in your stomach, and I won’t stand aside to see my child calling someone else his dad when I am still alive,” he resolved in his mind as he drove away.On the other hand, as Marcus left, Julian looked at Josephine again with his affectionate eyes.“Thank you, Julian. But you can leave now. Everything is fine now,” Josephine said to Julian, who reluctantly nodded his head.He had just reconnected with Josephine,
“You need evidence, Ms. Winters,” Human Rights Commissioner Mr. Bently said after listening to everything.Knowing she did not have evidence, she brought her hands to her jaw like a worried cow and thought about how to gather evidence against Marcus.Suddenly, a thought flashed in her mind, and just then, she said, “I will be back with evidence, Mr. Bently. Thank you for your time today.” She rose from her seat and headed out of the commissioner’s office.Marcus and Luke were friends. So, Vivian used to be friendly with Luke when they first started dating before she left him.During this time, Vivian had always noticed some signals from Luke. He often texted her on social media, asking to meet privately where Marcus wouldn’t be around or able to find out.Leveraging this, Vivian knocked on Luke’s door at his apartment.“Vi... Vivian!” Luke exclaimed.“What are you doing here?” Luke was shocked to see her as he opened the door, standing in the doorway. It had been ages since he last sa
