I don't see why you should go, you can just as well send any other person in the pack to go instead” My Beta, Zayne questioned as I filled my bag with a few clothes and essentials that I would need. “Firstly, this is very important for my career. I need this if I want to actualize my dreams, I have to go there and maybe while I am there I could keep an eye on things by myself” “No, you know that you do not. You are already so popular that attending some stupid seminar would not change anything, it is just bringing alot of publicity your way and endangering the pack My back turned to him, I gritted my teeth in anger . It was always the pack, the pack the pack. Don't get me wrong , I loved my pack, I was the freaking Alpha but for once, I needed to do something for myself and not just for the pack. All my life, I was raised with that statement being resounded in my head every few minutes. ‘The pack comes first, no matter what happened. And , yes, I agreed that the pack always came first but that statement had also made me lose everything I held dear to in life. It robbed me of my happiness and yet I had no other choice but to just continue, continue in the same footsteps that ruined me. “I know how you feel…” “No, you don't. You know nothing of how I fell, so don't act like you do “ I growled under my breath, trying to reign in the anger that was simmering just beneath my skin. “Look man, people are talking, they don't think the publicity is worth it. That's all “ “People? Or you? “ I asked, my eyebrow up on question as I stared at him. Before, I trusted Zayne with my whole life, I could literally put my life in his hands. He was my Beta and my best friend. But at the same time, he was the first to jump at the ruins of my life to devour it. “ I won't lie, I don't think it is a good idea. We both know that you might be recruited if you attend this seminar” “And?” I asked as I threw more things into my bag. “You would be in the spotlight, and that is not where you should be, if you're there, it would just be a matter of time before people start to notice things, to ask questions.” “Did this occur to you when you accepted to be part of the big hockey leagues?” I heard him suck in a harsh breath. “That does not concern this.” “Really? I mean, if not for the injury on your shoulder, and people asking questions on how such an injury would've healed, would you have left the team?” I paused everything I was doing, my gaze searching his face as the silence in the room became deafening. “I thought as much” I zipped up my bag and began leaving the room, my shoulder hitting his. “You know why I had to do that, why I had to go join the leagues” “Don't” I growled “You don't want to hear it? You don't want to accept it?” “Zayne!” I growled even louder “You don't want to hear about how I am a nothing because of your existence” “I did nothing to cause that” “Your mere existence is the cause of every disaster that has occured” My heart clenched in pain “You don't mean that..” “Is that what you think?” I could hear the smirk that I was sure was plastered on his face He knew just how much I sought his validation, how much I looked up to him. “I never asked to be written into any stupid prophecy” “Then walk away!!” My breath caught, bye knew what walking away would mean for me, for the pack, for everyone. He knew that , that would be the cause of my death. I began walking away then I stopped on my tracks, unwilling to leave without putting him in his place and letting him know that I was no longer that young boy from before that sought his validation in everything that I did. “For so long, you have coveted what does not belong to you. It seems you forget that I am the Alpha, the rightful Alpha and my decision is final and can not be opposed. It would be in your good interest if you try to remember that the next time you challenge me Beta. Remember your place, brother” I said with my Alpha voice and from the corner of my eyes I saw him struggle not to cower. A smile appeared on my lips when I saw his head go down in submission despite his will. I was his Alpha , no matter what he felt, that did not change the truth. As I say in the car driving me to the airport all I could wonder was if I was making the right decision. The pack all thought I was going in search of the child from the prophecy , the one that was meant to unite with me to defeat the enemy but how I could go in search of her if I did not believe in that prophecy. From birth I had known I was the other person who was spoke of in the prophecy and I hated the fact that , that was what I was known as, the prophecy child. No one saw me for who I actually was, Blake Del Monté, I was just the Del Monté son from the prophecy , the son that took his elder brother's spot as the alpha because he was the prophecy child. Pushing all those thoughts to my head, I had no idea what I was doing these days but at least I was sure of this one. Once, I had let my duties that had been drilled into me since birth rule my every actions but for once I was going to be Blake Del Monté, the latest recruit of the country's hockey team and not the Alpha of the Blood moon pack. With that thought ,I blocked the pack link and let it all fade behind me as I got closer to my dreamsBlake's POV-“You're fine.”What the hell was that?!I muttered to myself incredulously as I stalked down the hallway. All night, I had run over different scenarios in my mind and the different ways meeting her would play out, but what I had not anticipated was losing all sense of speech the second I came in contact with her.Something was wrong somewhere.Horribly wrong. She shouldn't have this kind of effect on me.It was not possible. She was just a human and I had a fucking mate. The thought should have settled something inside me.It should have reminded me of who I was and where my priorities were supposed to be. The prophecy, my ward, my mate, my fucking packInstead, it only made the frustration worse.Because if she was just a human, then why did my chest tighten every time she looked at me?Why did my heart beat like it was trying to break out of my ribcage whenever she was near? Why had I spent the entire night replaying our argument instead of getting some damn sleep?I ha
Rosaline’s POVI could not sleepNot even for a millisecond, my brain refused to shut down and let me get some rest.I was the girl that could fall asleep under any kind of condition, in school, at practice, at the club, anywhere but here, in the quiet of my room, in the cloudiness of my bed, one of my most expensive purchases, I was finding it so hard to sleep. My brain kept on running laps, all I could replay was Blake's expression when I got down from the car and walk away and all I could remember was that he had not come after me“But who the fuck was I kidding” I sat up on my bed muttering to myself “ You walked away to avoid him, to get away from him, why on earth would he come after you, this isn't some fantasy romance book where he would come begging me to come back to the car to fix things!” I huffed and fell back on my bedI remembered that hurt look in his eyes, the exhausted tone of his voice to the anger in his tone when he yelled, the way his eyes flashed so angrily. I h
Blake's POV I had not heard what she said initially, but when she all but screamed it the second time, her voice louder and sounding like she was panickingI pulled over, hitting the brakes so hard that we both lurched forward, but before the car could even come to a complete stop, she unbuckled her seat belt and was out of it, as if her ass was on fire.Like she could not stand being in the same space with me for a moment more and the thought of that tore at my insides Suddenly, she turned to look at me and our eyes met, for the very first time all night and immediately I regretted ever meeting her gaze I had expected to see rage, disgust on her face. I had expected to see the usual annoyance that she wore like a properly fitted mask whenever she spoke to me but instead I saw hurt, her eyes glistened with unshed tears. My insides squeezed at the sight of that and suddenly rage washed over me. Anger more than I had felt all night. For the first time all night, I felt like breaking
Rosaline’s POVI did not miss the side glances that Noah threw at me when he thought I was not looking and honestly, it felt like he’d been doing it every damn minute since we left the restaurant. Meanwhile, I had my forehead practically glued to the car window, watching the blurry lights streak past and pretending the silence between us didn’t exist.I had my gaze and my face fixed to the window, trying to ignore the conversation that he wanted to have because there was nothing I had to say to him concerning that.In fact, I wanted to thank him for going all cave like over my dignity, but that was the problem.Did he do it because it was expected of him or had he done it for some other reason?!The thought of that pissed me the hell off, I had to know and I was angry at myself for wanting to know.I let out a breath that I had not realised that I was holding in and he took that as a conversation starter“Are you going to just ignore me all night?” he asked , his voice low but sh
Blake's POV The rage that overtook me was insane, one minute I was sitting beside Rosaline and the next I found myself pulling Noah by his shirt and pushing him to the ground Immediately without thinking about it, I threw a punch on his nose and heard a satisfying crunch but that wasn't still enough to calm down the rage inside me All it took was Candace verifying what I already suspected was true, the mother fucker had hit her and he was not in the least remorseful for that What I hated more than anything were men that were pigs , that used that strength over women but were in fact weak. Noah was barely a struggle to contain, in fact, even without using my wolf strength, I could easily snuff the life out of him within a minute I threw punches after punches on Noah and it took Brock and Jack lifting me off him before I finally let go. Honestly, I didn't let go because they outnumbered me or anything of that sort, I let go because when I looked up at Rosaline, she was staring
Rosaline's POV The rest of the car ride after I had impulsively turned on the radio to avoid any kind of conversation was quiet I had thought that Blake would try to initiate some kind of conversation but for some reason he did not and I was meant to be happy about that, after all, that was the reason I had turned on the radio but when he made no move to start any conversation, I felt empty.“We are here” Blake said as he killed the ignition.I looked outside, and I could already see everybody seated at our favourite booth and my heart begun to race all over againSuddenly Blake entwined his fingers with mine. “Are you okay?” He asked with concern filled eyes while I just stared at his hands on mine, forgetting to register the fact that my heart had started racing for a different reason altogether “Are you mad?” “Mad? Why should I be mad at you?”“Because I brought you here and I didn't even tell you what you were walking in to and I know you are not a huge fan of theirs but…”“T
Blake Since I shut off the pack link , I carried with me a gnawing feeling of guilt that I was going against everything I was brought up to be. But that was the main purpose of it all, I was done letting a stupid prophecy control me If any of them were up to it, they could as well marry that g
Rosaline It had been a five months since I had last heard anything about those men, I guess it was all due to the changes I had made. That day had made me realise just exactly the amount of danger that I was in and also just how much I valued my life and still wanted to be alive. After that day,
Rosaline The cold autumn wind blew the strands of hair that had escaped from the bun I put it in and stuffed under my cap. I pulled down the sleeve of my top to cover my fingers, hugging myself as I stood In Front of my parents grave. All the mourners and family or at least, so- called family h
Rosaline Refusing to meet his eyes, I clutched my bag tightly deciding that the best thing to do at this point was to pretend like I had no idea who he was. “Mystery girl” “Don't call me that” I said in a rushed hushed tone, people had already began to notice the exchange between us and that
