The EKG machine beeped steadily, its rhythm cutting through the silence of the ward.

Anna yanked her eyes open slowly, reluctantly. Everything around her swirled at first, formless and blurry, the white ceiling above her refusing to hold still. She moaned softly, pressing her palms against the mattress and trying to push herself upright.

"What happened?"

She tried to reach for the memory and found nothing, just a hollow gap where the last several hours should have been.

Then she felt it.

  • The Crescent Heir    One Big Problem

Jebediah looked into his mother's eyes and realized she wasn't joking — not even a little. He'd seen her serious before, the way her blue eyes dimmed the moment all humor drained from her face. But this was different. Maureen was dead serious."Like, right now, mother?" Jebediah said, surprise coloring his own voice."Yes, son. And it can't wait." Maureen's tone left no room for negotiation.Jebediah glanced behind him, making sure no one was within earshot. The muffled voices of Anna and Loretta drifted faintly through the air until they vanished into the building. He turned back to his mother."But mother, this isn't a good time. Anna's mom just arrived. Shouldn't we be giving her a proper welcome, at least?""Alright, I'll make it brief, then." She grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him toward the corner of the security booth, just as a staff member walked briskly past them, headed for the garage."Mother, you're making me nervous, keeping me in suspense like this. What urgency co

  • The Crescent Heir    The Safe Arrival

The Porsche slowly slid into the estate's garage, quiet and soundless, the engine reducing to a low hum before dying altogether.Anna had met Maureen's question with silence, her hands busy with her phone, thumb jabbing the redial button over and over. Her face wore a panic that was really alarming, the kind that drained color from a person's cheeks and made their hands shake without them even noticing.Maureen let her have it her way, watching her with her side vision, worry etched deep into the lines of her face. She'd raised enough children to know when silence needed to be respected, and when it needed to be broken."Anna love, don't panic much about it, I believe it's alright. Probably network issue." Maureen tried to comfort her, despite knowing deeply that it wasn't helping. The words felt hollow even to her own ears, but sometimes hollow words were better than none at all."My mom's phone has never gone off, Mother. It's too odd to me." Anna came with a worried tone, voice tig

  • The Crescent Heir    He Can Trade The World For You

Maureen didn't answer immediately. Her hands steadied on the wheel, her eyes fixed on the road ahead. Anna stared at her, wondering if she'd even heard the question. She had — clearly — and was deliberately keeping quiet. Anna felt embarrassment creep up her neck at the silence that met her. She shouldn't have asked that. Not like that, not so bluntly. Her eyes dropped low, gaze sliding away from Maureen toward her own hands folded in her lap. She'd known, somewhere underneath the question, that it wasn't wise to ask it out loud."Baby girl." Maureen's voice came calm and soothing, practical even. Anna's gaze snapped back to her. Maureen breathed out, and smiled in a knowing way. "Do you believe Jebediah truly loves you enough to bear both you and the child of another?"The question was simple enough sitting there in the open air. The answer was the problem. Anna opened her mouth to say something, and found her brain had nothing waiting there to fill the space. Her mouth shut again o

  • The Crescent Heir    Mama's Puppy

"Puppy?"Loretta's voice came slow and surprised, like she hadn't quite processed what her ears were telling her."Mama! It's really you!" Anna screamed from her seat, nearly shaking her seatbelt off her shoulder."My goodness, puppy! Aaaaaa!"The inside of the car detonated.Anna's wild shriek collided with Loretta's booming expression over the phone — loud and completely unbothered by the fact that she was standing in the middle of a public terminal. Maureen covered her ears with one hand while keeping the other firm on the wheel, eyes steady on the road ahead. She now knew, with absolute certainty, exactly where Anna had gotten her personality from. Very typical. She smiled through most of it, letting the chaos wash over her like background music, because beneath all that noise, she could see it for what it really was. A quiet, tender moment between a mother and her daughter. She let them have it.---"Mama, you didn't even bother to let your little puppy know you were coming." Ann

  • The Crescent Heir    Between Bruises and Blessings

The night had not just turned into a nightmare — it had become the single worst experience of Romulus's entire existence. He barged out of Sophia's apartment like a man fleeing a burning building, except the fire was his dignity, and it was already ash."This was all a test." He muttered it first like a confession, then growled it like an accusation as he dragged himself along the corridor. "All of it. She made the whole thing up just so I'd fail woefully." His voice dropped to something between a hiss and a whimper. "All that talk about BDSM and awful riddles. What does she even know about sex and lovemaking if she claims to be a virgin? All for purity and desire." He threw his hands up. "That Ashworth woman is completely crazy. Who names a whip Godzilla? Who, in their right senses, believes love blooms through torture?"He stopped walking for half a second, jaw tight, fists clenched."A beauty with unadulterated evil in her heart." He resumed his march. "Puuta!!"It never stopped. H

  • The Crescent Heir    The Test

The moonlight was deliberately doing too much tonight. Like it had reserved it's light specifically for this occasion. It poured through the windows uninvited, catching the edges of everything — the bedframe, the glass on the nightstand, Sophia's skin. Especially her skin. Romulus noticed that last part in a way that was becoming difficult to manage. His hands found her hips, and the sound that left him was low and involuntary."You're so beautiful," he breathed. A moan escaping him lips.Sophia stopped. Not slowly, not with warning. She simply stopped, the warmth evaporated from her voice like it had never been there."What was that now?"Romulus blinked. "Uhh... I said you're very—"She was already gone. She unmounted herself with the calm of a woman who had never once lost control of a room, and sat at the edge of the bed, one hand rising to smooth her hair, like nothing had happened. Like she hadn't just pulled the floor out from under him.Romulus sat there — confused, breathless

  • The Crescent Heir    Luxury Or What ?

"Whoa."The word left Anna's mouth before she could dress it up into anything more articulate. She stood at the entrance of the estate's garage — or rather, what she had assumed would be a garage but which revealed itself, with each passing second, to be something else entirely. Something that defi

  • The Crescent Heir    What Stirred On The Inside

"JB!" Janette's screamed at the top of her lungs, her voice bouncing off the high, expensive ceilings of the hallway, sharp and utterly shameless, the kind of scream that rattled picture frames and startled sleeping cats twenty yards away.Jebediah didn't even flinch. "I did not see your moon-rin

  • The Crescent Heir    I'm Alright, Mama

The silence in Anna’s apartment became so thick that the rapid thumping of her own heart felt like drumbeats. She stared at the phone on the small wooden table, her fingers trembling as she pressed the speaker button."What? Puppy? Is that really you?" Lauretta’s voice came through, thin and waver

"Easy there, Segan," Anna whispered. She patted the great black stallion’s neck. The horse shifted, his heavy hooves echoing against the flagstone floor. Anna had woken before the world, moving through the soft predawn light with a sense of peace that had been foreign to her for months. She felt l
