Tommy couldn’t stop talking about Mr. Miller, the new substitute teacher and how amazing he was. Light and admiration filled his eyes as he narrated Rodney’s (Mr Miller) attack on our bodyguards to the kids that didn’t go to school. Forget all the super heroes he’d seen in movies. Mr. Miller was now his favorite hero. He didn’t know why Rodney attacked the bodyguards but figured they deserved it because they attacked him first. I tried to stop him from talking about the story but he wouldn’t stop. Ethan had been doing the father duties for a long time and I didn’t want him to feel bad when he returned because my son was nearly worshipping another man. When he finally settled down and slept, I went to my own room to relax. But I couldn’t. How could I relax after seeing Rodney? My wolf was excited, restlessly pacing through my mind and my body was still on fire from his near touch earlier. Every time I recalled the few minutes we shared, my heartbeat skyrocketed. It took me all the way back to the past. I was about to get out of bed when I heard sounds coming from outside. Footsteps? I sat up to listen properly. Suddenly, I heard the sound of glass breaking and jumped out of bed. Tommy! I had to go check on him. There was a loud crash and agitated voices followed, shouting angrily. They were many so I rushed to Tommy’s room and opened the door. Thankfully, He was still asleep and completely unaware of the situation outside. “Tommy, wake up.” I said, shaking him gently. He stirred almost immediately. “Mom?” “Get up now, baby.” A loud bang echoed through the house and I realized the front door must’ve been forced open. I grabbed Tommy and pulled him close. “Stay with me no matter what happens. Do you understand me?” His eyes were wide now and he was trembling, not from cold but fear. He nodded just as another crash occurred. This one was closer and footsteps filled the hallway. Judging by the scents, it seemed like a whole pack of wolves were in the house. “She’s in here.” One said. “She’s the reason he’s dead.” “She deserves to pay.” I frowned. What were they talking about? Who was dead? “Mom…?” Tommy clung to my arm. “What’s happening mom?” “Stay close,” I whispered. Suddenly, the door burst open and angry warriors flooded in. Their eyes traveled from me to Tommy. “There she is.” “She brought the Alpha down.” “I didn’t do anything,” I said quickly. “What are you all talking about? What are you doing here?” A warrior stepped forward. I recognized him because he was one of the top ones in the pack. “Because of you, our Alpha is dead.” “What? Ethan is dead?” But they didn’t answer. They moved forward at once and I backed up until I hit the wall. Tommy was shaking beside me so I grabbed and held him. One of the warriors looked like he was about to grab him. “Don’t touch him,” I growled, my wolf threatening to come out. He lunged forward and I screamed. “Mom!” Tommy cried out as a man grabbed him while another tried to stop me from reaching out for him. A sudden drop in temperature made everyone pause. The air turned cold out of nowhere and ice was beginning to form on the floor. “What’s going on?” someone asked. “What the hell! It’s not even winter.” “Give me my son,” I yelled at the warrior holding him. Out of nowhere, someone appeared at the door and all eyes turned towards him. Rodney stepped inside the room with long, steady strides. “Alpha Rodney,” a warrior said “He’s the one who killed-” Rodney didn’t let him finish. With A flick of his finger, ice erupted across the floor and the man was thrown backward instantly. Rodney walked forward and the attackers started stepping away. The man holding Tommy put him down and quickly tried to run but Rodney grabbed him by neck and knocked his head on the wall. A crack sounded and the man fell to the floor. I rushed over and grabbed Tommy. This was one of the few moments I was grateful for Rodney’s violent nature. But when did Rodney get the power to freeze things? I held Tommy tight as Rodney turned to the cowering warriors. They had tried to flee only to run into the ice block, blocking the doorway. Now they were trembling like cowards, as if they hadn’t just threatened me. “How dare you touch what’s mine.” he barked at them. Some slid down to the floor, kneeling before the alpha. “We’re sorry!” many of them said. The temperature dropped even lower and frost crawled up the walls, making us all shiver. Rodney grabbed one of the warriors by the neck. The man trembled so much he ended up peeing himself. “Mister Miller?” Tommy said. Rodney turned, stared at Tommy for a while before letting the warrior go. “Break down that ice,” he ordered the warriors who quickly looked for blunt objects to use. One produced a hammer from his coat pocket and started using it. If he could create the block, why didn't he just use his powers to break it? Usually, a person who controls water can freeze and unfreeze things. “Are you okay?” Rodney asked, coming close to us. His body was so close I could feel the coldness radiating from him. Why was he so cold? Had the Moon Omega give him powers? Thinking of her made me furious. “What are you doing here? Did you follow us?” Rodney raised a brow. “I save you and that's all you have to say?” By now the ice block had been disintegrated. Although there was a means of escape, the warriors stared at him as if they were unsure of how to proceed. "Get out!" Rodney barked and the men scrambled out like they had been waiting for the command all their lives. “I’m taking you back home,” he said to me “No. You're not.” I said. “That was not a request,” he said.Evie.An uncomfortable silence filled the car as we drove back to Crescent Pack. The kiss was still in my mind. I remembered his mouth on mine and the way his arms tightened around me in the forest like he never wanted to let go. I hated how much it affected me.Rodney sat beside me, one hand resting against the seat between us. His breathing had become steadier after touching me, but some frost still lingered under the skin of his throat.I caught him looking at me whenever he thought I wouldn't notice. After some time, I couldn’t take it anymore. I crossed my arms over my chest and stared straight ahead. “Just because I agreed to help you doesn’t mean I want you back. You’re not allowed to touch me inappropriately.”He didn't say anything. Neither did he pry his eyes off the road.“I’m doing this for Tommy,” I continued firmly. “He deserves to have his father alive.”Rodney watched me for several seconds before speaking. “And not for me?”The question irritated me. “This is exactly
Evie.Standing near the edge of the cliff path, I shivered as cold wind blew over me. The witches hid nearby beneath concealment spells, waiting for Rodney to arrive. The trap had been set, ready to swallow him whole.I stared down at the phone in my hands. The call log glowed faintly on the screen. Rodney. 1 hour.Evie? The sound of my name in his voice had nearly decimated my will power and I almost told him not to come but I’d forced myself to continue and asked him to meet me near the Cots Mountain Ridge. The sound of footsteps behind me pulled me from my thoughts. I turned and saw Cora approaching.“You’re way too nervous.” she said, giving me a once over.“Honestly, this is not easy for me.” I confessed. “I know, but you made the correct decision.”Did I? Even now, I wasn’t sure. The witches believed tonight would end with Rodney weakened and alone. What they didn’t know was that I called Rodney when they were gone and informed him about their plans. I felt his presence befo
Evie.“You want to do what?” I said, entering the room. Although I hadn’t figured out how to use my powers, I wasn’t afraid of the witches. “We shall remove the child from Crescent Pack.” Cora said. “We have a plan underway to get him out as soon as possible.”I wanted to be with Tommy but after everything I heard them saying, he was very much safer in Crescent pack than with these evil witches.“Rodney will never stop using him against you.” Cora said. It was true but that was none of their business.“What exactly is your plan?” I folded my arms over my chestThe witches exchanged glances. Those who had risen went back to sit. “We received reports that the curse has worsened. He’s dying and desperate” she continued. “Which means he’ll come over the moment he believes you’re willing to help him.”“And?”“We lure him away from the pack house.”“Do you want Tommy alone?”“No.”“You’re letting emotions cloud your judgment.” One of the older witches sighed.“That’s my child!”“And Rodne
Rodney.By the time I reached, Evie’s apartment, the only thing left was her beautiful scent. The scent clung to everything in the house and I could feel it everywhere. There was another unfamiliar scent but it seemed human. Strange. I went to the dining table and read through papers scattered across the top while warriors searched the rest of the apartment. There were a lot of things in the apartment but none that could explain where she had gone or who had taken her.“Alpha, we searched the building security room,” a warrior said as he walked in. “The cameras outside were disabled for approximately twenty minutes.”I looked up. “Disabled how?”“We don’t know yet.”I was still processing this when another warrior entered from the hallway.“We found traces of magic,” he said. Now the camera issue made sense. That made my wolf snarl. Witches. The first one that came to mind was Cora but I didn’t think she’d come all the way here for something so small. My fist clenched and Ice spread
Evie.“Stop trying to control it like a weapon,” my mother said as we stood in the middle of the coven’s underground training chamber. “The Fireheart is not separate from you. It is you.”Sweat slid down the sides of my face as I stared at the dancing flames hovering above my palm. The training chamber was enormous, made entirely from black stone. Ancient runes glowed across its walls and candles lined the circular room. Their fire looked weak compared to the heat bubbling in my body.Because I was untrained, the fire kept reacting to my emotions instead of my commands. Thoughts of Rodney made them stronger because they came with too much anger.“I’m trying,” I said through clenched teeth.“No,” my mother replied. “You’re just fighting yourself.”I glared at the fire in my hand and it immediately flared higher in response to my irritation. Wonderful.“You inherited emotional magic,” she continued, coming closer to me. I sighed heavily. We’d been down there for two hours and I was alre
Rodney.“Again?” Tommy groaned dramatically from the training mat. “I’m tired.”“You need to be strong,” I said. No son of mine was going to be a weakling. My father raised a strong man, and so would I.“But I’m tired.”I folded my arms across my chest, staring down at the boy lying flat on his back in the middle of the training field. He was truly my son, which was honestly quite strange to take in. For years, I didn’t he existed but now couldn’t go a single day without thinking about him.Tommy looked up at me with narrowed eyes that looked very much like Evie’s.“You’re trying to kill me,” he gave me an accusing look. Instead of intimidating me, it made him look too adorable.“You’re breathing. So unfortunately, no.” “Did you hear that, Uncle Damien?” Tommy looked toward Damien, who stood nearby watching the training session with keen interest. “He admitted he’s evil.”Damien snorted. “I’ve been telling people that for years.”I ignored both of them. The early morning air was cold
