LOGINREIGN'S POV
Sonya signs the contract with shaking hands.
I watch every stroke of the pen, every hesitation, every moment she considers backing out. But she doesn't. Because she's loyal to a fault, even to someone who doesn't deserve her loyalty.
Derek doesn't deserve shit from this woman.
The moment she finishes signing, I lock the contract in my desk drawer. It's done. She's mine now. For six months, at least.
Though I'm betting it'll be much longer than that.
"Congratulations," I tell her. "You're now mine."
"For six months," she corrects quickly, and I almost smile at how she's already trying to maintain control.
"We'll see."
The truth is, six months won't be enough. I already know that. I've known it since last night when I saw her hiding in those bushes, looking at Derek like he hung the fucking moon.
She deserves better than pining after my idiot brother.
She deserves someone who sees her. Who wants her. Who'll burn the world down before letting anyone hurt her.
She deserves me.
My phone rings, and I look down to see my Beta, Landon, calling.
Timing couldn't be worse.
"I need to take this. Wait here." I step into the hallway, answering. "What's the matter, Lan?"
"We have a problem, Reign," Landon says. "Ronan found out Derek came to you. He's pissed. Word is he's sending men to make an example before the forty-eight hours are up."
Fuck.
"How long do we have?"
"An hour, maybe two. I've already sent some gammas to look after Derek, but Ronan's people are fast."
"Send more gammas. Now. And prepare the guest house, we're having a permanent visitor." I glance back at my office door, where Sonya's waiting. "Actually, prepare the Luna's suite. Connect it to mine."
"The Luna's suite?" Landon sounds surprised. "Reign, I thought this was just a contract thing?"
"It is. But she's under my protection now. That means she gets treated like my Luna. Full stop."
"Understood. What about her apartment?"
"Send someone to pack her things. Everything. I want her moved in by tonight."
"On it."
I hang up and head back inside. Sonya's staring at her phone, clearly texting Derek. Her face is conflicted with guilt, fear, and determination, all mixing together.
She has no idea how beautiful she is. How her emotions play across her face like an open book. How badly I want to kiss away every doubt she's feeling.
"Change of plans," I tell her. "We're leaving. Now."
She looks up, startled. "What? Why?"
"Because the Rogue King just found out Derek sent you to me for help. And he's not happy about it." I grab my jacket. "Which means Derek is in immediate danger, and you're coming with me to my estate where you'll be protected."
"But I need to…"
"Pack your things? Already taken care of. I sent someone to your apartment a minute ago." I take her arm, feeling how delicate her bones are under my grip.
She's so much smaller than me. Vulnerable. The need to protect her is almost overwhelming. "You signed the contract, Sonya. That means you follow my rules now. And rule number one is your safety comes first."
"You sent someone to my apartment? Without asking me?"
"Yes."
"That's insane!"
"That's life with me, little omega. Better get used to it."
I can see her wanting to argue, wanting to fight back. And fuck, I love that fire in her eyes. Most people cower when I use my Alpha tone. She just gets angry.
Perfect.

In the SUV, Landon's driving and I'm on the phone with my head gamma, coordinating Derek's protection detail.
"I don't give a shit what Ronan wants," I tell him. "Derek Savage is under my protection now. Anyone who touches him answers to me."
I hang up and look at Sonya. She's staring out the window, her face tight. Still processing everything.
"Your ex-boyfriend is an idiot," I say.
"He's not my boyfriend."
"But you want him to be." I study her profile, the curve of her neck, the way her red hair falls over her shoulder. "Tell me, Sonya, what is it about Derek that makes you so desperate? Is it the way he ignores you? The way he fucks other girls while you pine?"
"Stop it."
But I can't stop. I need her to see what's right in front of her. "Or maybe you just like the idea of him. The safe, familiar choice. Because the alternative, admitting what you really want scares the shit out of you."
"And what do I really want?" She turns to face me, those hazel eyes flashing with challenge.
My wolf howls in approval. Yes. Fight me. Show me that fire.
"Me."
I close the distance and kiss her before she can respond. Before she can think. Before she can talk herself out of what we both know is inevitable.
She tastes like vanilla and something sweeter. Her lips are soft, hesitant at first, then hungry. Her hands fist in my jacket, pulling me closer instead of pushing me away.
Through the kiss, I feel it, the connection that's been building since last night. The pull that goes beyond physical attraction. The bond that makes my wolf recognize her.
‘Mate,’’ he whispers. ‘Ours.’
I pull back before I completely lose control in the back of my SUV with Landon right there.
"That," I say, stroking her swollen lips with my thumb, "is what you really want. And I'm going to give it to you. Every filthy, forbidden bit of it."
She's staring at me with wide eyes, lips parted, breathing hard. Aroused and confused and completely perfect.
"Welcome home, little omega," I murmur as we pull through my estate gates. "Your new life starts now."
SONYA'S POVI can't see anything, and somehow that makes everything else sharper. The cool air against my bare skin. The soft give of the leather cuffs around my wrists, just tight enough to remind me they're there. The sound of Reign moving around the bed, unhurried, like he's got all night and intends to use every single second of it on me.There's something strange happening in my chest while I lie here waiting. Not fear. The opposite of fear, actually. I keep thinking about Melvanie's facility, about being chained in a cell, about feeling my own body move against my will because some contract demanded it. And then I think about this, about choosing to put my wrists in his hands, about the fact that I could say one word right now and every single thing would stop. The difference is so massive it almost makes me want to cry. Almost. Mostly it just makes me want him more."I want you to understand something first," Reign says, his voice closer now, right above me. "This isn't Melv
REIGN'S POVI take Sonya's hand and lead her down the hallway. The door to the room is heavier than the rest of the cabin, solid wood, no windows. I built it that way on purpose. Soundproofed too, though after this morning's little pack gossip, courtesy of Landon, I'm starting to think soundproofing should've been priority one in the entire cabin.I push the door open and flip the light switch, and Sonya goes still beside me, taking it all in.The bed's bigger than the one in my main bedroom, solid wood frame with restraint points built into the headboard and footboard. There's a padded bench against one wall, a dresser with drawers I know the contents of by heart, and the flogger and paddle hang on a hook by the door, prominently visible, not hidden away like something shameful."Reign," she breathes, her eyes wide. "You built all this?""I had it built. I'm an Alpha, not a carpenter." I shut the door behind us, the click of the lock settling anticipation low and hungry in my chest.
SONYA'S POVThat night, I skip the pack celebration. Everyone's still talking about the trial, about Garrick getting dragged off and about Derek's banishment, but I've had enough of crowds and council halls and people staring at the mark on my neck like it's the most interesting thing in the world.Reign finds me sneaking out the back of the estate while everyone's still drinking and toasting."Going somewhere?" he asks, leaning against the doorframe with that smug grin he gets when he already knows the answer."I need a break from all this. Just for a bit.""Good. I had the same idea." He holds out his hand. "Come on."We walk through the woods in comfortable silence, my fingers laced with his, the noise from the celebration fading behind us until it's just crickets and our footsteps on the dirt path. After everything, the kidnapping, the trial, the chains, the screaming, it's strange how much I needed quiet. Just this. Just him.We end up at the lake. Our lake. The one where he firs
SONYA'S POV"Alpha Garrick Savage. You stand guilty of treason, conspiracy, and endangering the lives of pack members." Elder Moira pauses, and the whole room follows her gaze to Reign. "However, Alpha Reign, you swore an oath to reinstate your father should his information lead to your mate's rescue. Do you intend to honor that oath?"Reign stands. "I do. I'll honor it."The room erupts with protests and muttering, a few people half-rising from their seats before Reign's glare settles them back down."I swore I'd reinstate him with full Alpha privileges," Reign says. "But I never swore to make him Pack Alpha again. He's an Alpha. Not the Alpha. And he doesn't get his council seat back.” His eyes cut to Garrick. "That was always the deal, Dad. You just didn't think I'd actually take it that literally."“That's not…” Garrick's mouth tightens, and he doesn't argue. There's nothing for him to argue with."Is there an objection to this reading of the oath?" Elder Moira asks the room.Sile
SONYA'S POVThe pack's main hall is packed by the time we arrive, every bench full, people standing along the back wall just to get a look at what's happening.Derek's already seated at the front, his hands resting on the table in front of him, bound in suppression chains. He looks calmly defiant. Too calm, actually, like he still believes there's a version of this where he walks out fine.Garrick sits a few feet away from him, dressed expensively, not a hair out of place, looking like he's here for a business meeting instead of a trial. There's no chains on him though. He came on his own, the way the oath he and Reign swore probably required, and he's wearing that fact like a shield.I sit with Phoebe near the front, my mom on my other side. Reign's already up near the council table, his arms crossed and jaw set.Elder Moira sits at the center of the council with the other elders, the Moonstone Blade resting in a leather case on the table in front of her, gold light barely leaking t
SONYA'S POVI'm halfway through a piece of toast in the dining room, still blushing at the memory of this morning's unfinished business with Reign, when Phoebe drops into the chair across from me, grinning like she's got a secret she's dying to spill."Sooo," she teases, stretching the word out way too long. "How was yesterday?""Fine.""Just fine?" She raises an eyebrow at me. "Because for a house built of stone, this place has absolutely no sense of privacy, and Landon told me he had to walk past Reign's room like four separate times yesterday and every single time…""Phoebe!""I'm just saying. Four times, Sonya."My face is already on fire. "We were busy.""Oh, I bet you were busy." She steals a piece of my toast, completely unbothered. "Busy being loud, from what I heard.""Oh goddess."My mom, sitting at the end of the table with her coffee, doesn't even try to hide her smile. "I think it's sweet.""Mom.""Reign almost lost you, dear. Twice. He's allowed to be a little enthusiast
SONYA'S POVI stare at the ceiling in my room, my mind racing.Still unable to wrap my head around the fact that Derek has feelings for me.Derek. Has. Feelings. For. Me.Six years. Six years I've waited to hear those words, and now that I have, all I can think about is Reign. The way he looked at
SONYA'S POVI storm into the house ahead of Reign, fury replacing the heat still coursing through me from the car.“Sonya,” Reign calls after me possessively as he follows."You don't own me, Reign," I snap, whirling to face him as he closes the front door with a heavy thud. "I signed a contract, n
SONYA'S POVThe drive back to Reign’s estate is silent.Reign's hands are white-knuckled on the steering wheel, his jaw clenched so tight I'm worried he'll crack a tooth, and the tension in the car is suffocating, pressing down on my chest. That's it, I can't take this anymore."Are you going to sa
SONYA'S POVI'm in the shower when my phone rings. And of course it's Derek. Because the universe has a sick sense of humor.I wrap a towel around myself and answer, water still dripping from my hair. "Hello?""Finally." Derek sounds relieved. "I've been trying to reach you all day. Are you okay?"
