Immediately I got home, I called a company that deals with changing locks. Despite the fact it was quite late, I had them change all the locks in the house. I changed the passwords to my laptops and my phones. I was determined to flush the parasite that was Aiden Knight out of my life for good. As I crashed into bed after taking the smoothie I made for dinner, his threat came flashing through my mind. What had I done to draw his attention anyway? Was it the way I had dressed or the way I looked? That was when something occurred to me. For the Director to have personally directed Aiden to my office, that meant he was someone important. I grabbed my phone, typing his name into the search box on the internet. There was little to no information about him except a family picture that had been taken with a younger Aiden scowling at the camera. My insides tightened with anxiety as I read the information underneath the picture. Apparently, he was the son of Ares Knight, the Chairman of Gerok group of company, who was rumored to be the king of the underworld in New York. That meant I couldnât dare say anything against him unless I wanted to get buried and never see day light again. But that didnât mean I would cave in to do hisâŠcrude biddings. I was going to fight till I canât anymore. First, I had to get him off my client list. --- âGood morning, pretty boyâ Aiden calls out as soon as he walked into my office, a small smirk on his face as he spread onto the sofa opposite me. Just like he did the first time. My knuckles tightened over the notepad in my palm as his smile got bigger. After I had tried to get him off my patientâs list, I had noticed things in my house finding their place in areas I definitely hadnât placed them in. I suspect he had somehow found a way to break into my house again. âGood morning, Aiden. How are you doing today?â I asked, my voice calm, devoid of the turmoil I was experiencing inwardly. âYour bed is very soft and comfortable; I laid on it for a couple of hoursâ he said in reply to my statement. My brain whirled as I tried to think of when he could have done that. âWhen did you break into my home?â I questioned, my heart pounding fast. âI loved the way that black underwear framed your ass last night, you should keep wearing them, I enjoyed the sight last nightâ My blood ran cold at the extent at which he was obsessed with me. Fear filled me then, my trembling hands feeling as if it wasnât for me. âDonât space out on me now, baby. Unless you want me to ground you again with a kiss, but trust me, it wouldnât end with a kissâ At his mildly covered threat, I found my body obeying him as if he had control over it more than I did. âI am older than you by the way, you should accord me with respectâ I said, my tone shaky but otherwise calm. He let out a mirthless chuckle as he stood to his feet. I didnât move an inch from where I sat, I wasnât going to give him the satisfaction of knowing he affected me. âI would fuck out that feisty attitude out of you. You have just today to decide or elseâŠâ He trailed off, his eyes glinting with wicked glee. He walked away with a slight press of his thumb against my lips. I watched as he walked out of the office, my body thrumming with fear and arousal all at once. The next session after that Aiden didnât show up, causing me to feel disappointed and relieved all at the same time. The good part about it was that I was in control. It just happened that I had a special case to present to the senior doctors in our department. âGood morning, the chief psychologist, the head of department and my fellow doctors. Here is a case ofâŠâ I froze at the video playing on my laptop, I swung my gaze towards the projected screen, my brain scrambling with things to say to counter the image when I saw that it was blank. âIs everything okay, Dr. Moore?â Dr. George asked, a worried expression on his face. âIâŠIâŠuhmâŠI am fine, excuse me pleaseâ I let out shaky as I flew into the bathroom. I opened the tap at the wash-hand basin with unsteady hands, my breathing harsh and sharp in the quiet space. I couldn't afford to have an episode now, not with all my coworkers right out the door. Aiden had played a dirty but powerful trick. This just showed how much power the video he has in his arsenal has to destroy my whole life in the blink of an eye. Once I was calm again, I stepped out and finished presenting the case. By the time I got back home, I was too exhausted and mentally drained to try to eat anything. My phone dinged with a message then, causing me to stiffen as I sat up to see who had messaged me. Adjusting my glasses properly on the bridge of my nose, I peered at the message on the screen of my phone. Unknown number: You better freshen up before I get there, I am bringing food for you to eat. My eyes went wide as I reasoned who it could be that would message me confidently like that. It was Aiden. My fingers hovered over my screen as I debated whether to reply and block him or just brush him off, calling off his bluff about exposing the video. Unknown number: Come open the door before I break it open. I scrambled off my bed, my heart in my mouth as I walked to the entrance. Immediately I opened the door, I saw him. The one man who seemed hell bent on destroy my whole public image. âThere you are pretty boy, have you decided yet?âELIANI should have known something was wrong the moment Aiden refused to tell me where we were going.People with good intentions usually answered simple questions but Aiden only smiled. âYouâll see.ââI honestly now hate that sentence.ââI know.ââIt usually ends with me regretting something.âHis grin widened as he unlocked the passenger door of his car. âGet in.âI folded my arms. âYou really enjoy ordering people around, donât you?.ââNo.â He waited until I looked at him. âI enjoy ordering you around.âI sighed dramatically before climbing into the car. âOne day,â I muttered as I buckled my seat belt, âyouâre going to meet someone who refuses to entertain your nonsense.ââI already did.â He shut the door before walking around to the driverâs side. âYou.âI pretended to look out of the window so he wouldnât see the smile threatening to appear but it didnât work as nothing ever escaped him.âYou smiled.ââI absolutely did not.ââI saw it.ââYea well.. You imagined it.ââI have exce
EMILEâWhat a sight for sore eyesâ I sarcastically muttered..The restaurant occupied the top floor of one of Manhattanâs most expensive hotels. The kind of place where people smiled too much and spoke too softly because everyone present was either rich, powerful, or trying desperately to become both.I hated it.Naturally, it was one of Fatherâs favorites. The balcony overlooked the city skyline while fragile glass railings separated us from a drop that would kill a man instantly but as usual Father claimed the view helped him think.Personally, I suspected he simply enjoyed looking down on things, including people.. Especially people. The mid morning breeze rolled across the balcony as I sat opposite him while a bottle of whiskey rested between us yet either of us had touched the drink or the food. That was typical.. Business always came before eating.Father folded his hands on the table. His silver hair reflected the city lights while his brown eyes remained as sharp as ever.Age
ELIANâNo.â I calmly replied as I stared at him.Aiden did not even blink.I still stood in the middle of my kitchen with a coffee mug in one hand while he leaned casually against the counter looking entirely too pleased with himself. The expression alone made me suspicious.âNo?â he repeated.âNo.ââThatâs your final answer?ââYes.âAiden nodded thoughtfully for a couple of seconds then he pointed toward the hallway.âGo get dressed.âI stared at him. âAiden, were you listening to anything I just said?ââPerfectly.ââAnd?ââAnd youâre getting dressed so I can take you out to calm your doctor-y mind.âA sigh escaped me. âYou are genuinely impossible.ââI hear that a lot.ââYea.. I wonder why.âHis grin widened and I should have known something was wrong the moment he started smiling like that.It was the smile he wore whenever he had already decided how a conversation would end and unfortunately for me, he was usually correct.I took another sip of coffee and narrowed my eyes. âWhere e
ELIANThe first thing I noticed when I finally woke up after my 3am ordeal was that somebody was watching me.The second thing I noticed was that the somebody in question had made himself entirely too comfortable.Aiden was sitting in the armchair across from my bed with one ankle resting over his knee and a mug of coffee in his hand.My mug.I stared at him and he stared back then he lifted the mug slightly. âGood morning my early birdâI looked toward the clock thenI looked back at him then I looked at the clock again. It was 7:50amâWhy are you here?â I quickly asked because asking him how he got in my house was a waste of my precious brain cells.. He was Aiden so yea that was answer enough.âItâs Sunday.ââThat doesnât really answer my question.ââIt answers most questions.âI groaned and buried my face in my pillow. Unfortunately, that only made him laugh and the sound drifted through the apartment and settled somewhere beneath my ribs.I hated that I was starting to recognize th
EMILEI wanted to sleep but I just couldnât..The area surrounding my estate looked different at night perhaps it was because darkness hid things like cracks, stains, the ugly truths people spent their entire lives trying to bury beneath expensive clothes and polished smiles.Or perhaps it was because New York had always reminded me of the family I was born into.Beautiful from a distance.. Dangerous up close.I stood beside the windows of my study and watched headlights move nearby. The glass reflected my expression back at me.. Calm, controlled and unimpressed well at least on the surface. The truth was far less pleasant.. Aiden was spiraling again and whenever Aiden spiraled, somebody usually ended up regretting it.Sometimes permanently.I lifted my whiskey and took a slow sip while my attention remained fixed on the file spread across my desk.Photographs.. ELIANThe first thing I heard as early as three in the morning was my phone vibrating across the nightstand.âArgghhh what the hellâThe second thing I heard was myself groaning into the pillow but I didnât move. The phone vibrated again then again.Whoever it was had clearly decided that peace was optional. With a sigh, I reached blindly for the device and squinted at the screen.Leah.Leah!! The hell was she calling for..I stared at the name for several seconds till the call ended then immediately started again.I closed my eyes. âPersistent as ever.âThe third call came before I could finish the sentence and against my better judgment, I answered.âWhat?ââWell good morning to you too.âI sat up slowly.Sunlight streamed through the curtains, painting the room gold.âWhat do you want, Leah?ââOuch.ââYou called three times.ââYou ignored the first two.ââThat should have been your answer.âHer laugh floated through the speaker and for some reason, it made me tired instead of happy
