The click sounded like an explosion in Noah’s ears. His heart hammered against his ribs as if trying to escape his chest. Beyond the door, the cold, silent hallway of the De Luca estate greeted him with dramatic, dim lighting. Noah didn't have time to admire the minimalist architecture, which surely cost enough to feed an entire province. He had to move. Now.

With agonizing care, Noah slipped out. The marble floor felt icy against his bare feet. Damn it, he hadn't even had time to find proper shoes, just the casual clothes he’d found in the guest closet—which thankfully fit—and his own battered sneakers, which had been tossed carelessly by the entrance. He jammed his feet into them in a rush, not bothering to tie the laces. He had one priority: get as far away from Matteo as possible.

Noah knew perfectly well that this security system was no joke. During the hack he’d performed yesterday, he had found a fatal loophole in the CCTV camera synchronization protocol that occurred every day at 5:45 AM. There was a foursecond window while the system handed over data to the backup server—a frame rate drop intentionally left there to keep from overloading the central processor. To him, those four seconds were the gateway to freedom.

"Crap, if I'd been a second late, I'd be dead," he whispered, his voice raspy. His body still felt wrecked. The soreness in his lower back and the lingering scent of Matteo’s cologne on his skin were constant reminders of what had happened a few hours ago. Noah shook his head hard, trying to chase away the image of the Don’s hungry gaze. Focus, Noah. Focus.

He crept past the massive pillars, counting the seconds in his head. One... two... three... As the camera in the corner of the ceiling swiveled with the nearly silent hum of its motor, Noah bolted like lightning across the open area toward the side access door. His legs felt heavy, his lungs began to burn, but adrenaline outweighed everything. He pressed Matteo’s spare access card against the biometric scanner.

The indicator light flashed yellow. Noah held his breath. Come on, you piece of junk. Just work with me!

Beep. Green.

The door opened with a soft hydraulic hiss. Noah slipped out and found himself in the expansive backyard. The humid morning air stung his skin. He didn't run straight for the main gate—that would be suicide. Instead, he headed for the perimeter wall on the west side, an area that, according to the digital map he’d stolen, had motion sensors that frequently triggered false positives from overhanging tree branches.

He climbed the concrete fence with great difficulty, his fingers scraped and bleeding against the rough stone, but he didn't care. Once his feet touched the ground outside the De Luca complex, Noah didn't look back. He ran through the morning fog, tracing the quiet asphalt road toward the city center.

About thirty minutes later, Noah reached a commercial district that was just starting to stir. He found an old, 24hour internet café in a narrow alley. With hands still trembling, he rented a computer in the darkest corner. This was the most crucial part: the erasure of his digital identity.

His fingers danced across the sticky keyboard with incredible speed. He logged into his hidden server, triggering an autodestruct script for all his social media accounts, fake residency data, and even the bank activity logs he had used. He created a "data explosion" that would leave a false trail leading in the opposite direction—making it look as if he were headed to the international airport, even though he had no intention of going there.

"Goodbye, old Noah Valen," he muttered. He pulled out his burner phone, popped out the SIM card, and snapped it in two. On the computer screen, lines of green code scrolled rapidly, wiping away every trace of his existence in the digital world in seconds. Clean sweep.

Noah left the internet café as the sun began to peek from behind the highrises. He walked toward the intercity bus station, forcing his pace to look casual even though every joint protested from sheer exhaustion. He bought a ticket with cash—no ID required, thanks to a little verbal manipulation of the sleepy ticket agent—for a small coastal town that wasn't even on the tourist map.

In the station bathroom, which smelled of urine and disinfectant, Noah stared at his reflection in a cracked mirror. His face was pale, his eyes bloodshot, and he used his jacket collar to cover the red marks on his neck. He dropped his phone into a trash can overflowing with dirty paper towels, making sure it was buried at the bottom.

"I’m starting from zero. You won't find me, Matteo. Never."

The old bus bound for Havenport wheezed, emitting black smoke as its engine turned over. Noah boarded and took the back seat, resting his head against the vibrating window glass. As the bus began to pull slowly out of the terminal, the weight on his shoulders felt a little lighter. He closed his eyes, letting the overwhelming exhaustion pull him into the darkness.

However, just as the bus cleared the terminal and hit the main road, the roar of a familiar sports car engine shattered the morning silence. Noah jolted awake, his eyes widening as he stared out the window.

From the opposite direction, a convoy of jetblack SUVs sped toward them at breakneck speed. In the lead, a luxury sedan with deeply tinted windows—one he recognized all too well—shot past like a black bullet. The convoy was heading straight for the bus station he had just left.

Noah froze in his seat, holding his breath. Through the blurred bus window, he could almost feel the cold aura of rage emanating from that sedan. Matteo De Luca was awake. And the predator had begun the hunt. The bus kept moving, but Noah’s heart began to race wildly; he realized his escape had only just begun, and the stakes were far higher than he had ever imagined.

The explosion that rocked the base of the penthouse wasn't a death knell; it was a wake-up call. The floorboards beneath Noah’s feet groaned like a wounded animal as the structural integrity of the De Luca skyscraper groaned under the impact of remote charges. The building was hemorrhaging, and according to the cascading data red-lining on Noah’s screen, they were officially offline. "The main lobby’s gone," Noah muttered, his fingers blurring over the tactile feedback keyboard he’d pulled from a spare housing. "They triggered a secondary support collapse in the subterranean garage. Enzo is trying to bring the whole structure down to bury us alive."Matteo didn't blink. He was still standing over Leo, who had retreated to the bunker's back corner with an efficiency that made Noah’s heart ache. The Don was re-loading his sidearm, the sharp metallic click of the magazine seating itself providing the only beat in their grim rhythm. "He’s desperate. That’s a mistake. If he wanted to kill

The monitors in the command center flickered, a frantic pulse of green against the darkened room. Noah’s eyes traced the flow of data—a torrential river of information—but his brain felt like it was fracturing. Every time he successfully suppressed a Riccardi probe, two more sprang up like the heads of a digital hydra."They aren't just hitting the banks now," Noah snapped, his voice tight. His fingers moved with a rhythmic desperation, striking keys so hard the desk vibrated. "They’re going after the secondary grid, Matteo. They’re trying to lock down our private transport lanes. If they get control of the freight signatures, they can divert your shipments halfway across the world before you realize they're gone."Matteo leaned over Noah’s shoulder, the heat of his presence feeling like a heavy wool blanket in the cooled room. He tapped the glass display. "Cut them off. Don't fight the signals—collapse the path. If they’re using the logistics ports as an entry point, shut the port do

The command center was a cavernous expanse of cold steel, blue light, and the hum of a thousand servers. Noah sat at the main terminal, his fingers hovering over a laser-etched keyboard, while Matteo paced the platform behind him like a panther gauging the strength of its enclosure. "The Riccardi firewalls are evolving," Noah announced, his voice raspy. "They’re using an adaptive algorithm, a self-learning code. It's aggressive, Matteo. They aren't just trying to extract money; they're trying to mirror our transaction structure to ghost the syndicate.""Stop them," Matteo replied, his tone chillingly level. He stopped pacing, his gaze fixed on Leo, who was sitting in the corner with Luca, of all people. The enforcer was showing the five-year-old how to disassemble a deactivated tactical flashlight. It was an image that made Noah’s skin crawl—the heir of a software prodigy and a mafia kingpin being trained in the logistics of hardware and lethality."Leo, stop fiddling with the hardw

The scent of expensive coffee and stale gunpowder hung in the air of the De Luca penthouse like an unwanted houseguest. Noah stared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror—pale, dark-eyed, and looking like a ghost in the gleaming, obsidian tiles. Every inch of his body hummed with the phantom ache of the night before, a reminder that the cage wasn't just physical; it was carved into his skin by the man who owned the keys.A sharp, impatient rap on the heavy mahogany door echoed through the suite. "Thirty minutes, Noah. Don't make me come in there." Luca Marino’s voice was clipped, lacking the lethal warmth of his employer, but filled with enough threat to stop anyone’s heart.Noah groaned, splashing cold water over his face. He threw on a silk-lined charcoal sweater that had been provided in his wardrobe, fitting far too well to be accidental. It was a brand he had never heard of, soft enough to feel like an insult against his desperate need for armor. He walked into the living area

The sterile, monochromatic interior of the De Luca penthouse did nothing to dampen the oppressive weight that descended on Noah the moment the doors hissed shut behind him. He clutched Leo’s hand so tightly his knuckles turned white, but Leo, having witnessed the grim efficiency of the De Luca enforcers, remained unnervingly silent. He walked with a poised, rhythmic step that mimicked his father’s, though it was unclear which father he was imitating."Get them cleaned up and keep the boy in the secondary suite," Matteo ordered without looking back, his voice an absolute decree that cut through the recycled air. Luca Marino bowed his head, already beckoning a housekeeper to take Leo."No!" Noah lurched forward, instinctively shielding Leo behind his legs. "He stays with me."Matteo stopped in the middle of the foyer. The sprawling marble space was accented by velvet dark-gray furniture and minimalist abstract art, but to Noah, it was just a gilded cell. Matteo pivoted on his heel, his

Noah’s fingers were shaking like crazy as he pressed the final 'Enter' on his grimy mechanical keyboard. On the monitor, a line of neon green code flickered once before finally turning into static text: MESSAGE SENT. ENCRYPTION TUNNEL CLOSED.The world around Noah seemed to slow down instantly. His breath hitched, and the smell of stale coffee on his desk suddenly became sharp and nauseating. He had just done the stupidest—or perhaps the most genius—thing in his life: he had given his GPS coordinates to Matteo De Luca. The Devil he had been dodging for five years."Leo, listen to Daddy," Noah whispered, his voice hoarse. He turned to the five-year-old boy who was still blinking sleepily beside him. "We’re playing hide and seek, okay? But this time it’s hardcore level. You have to hide in the 'Secret Place' and don’t come out, don’t make a sound, until Daddy himself opens the door. Understand?"Leo, who had grey eyes exactly like the man Noah had just messaged, could only nod slowly. H
