Noah’s ears rang loudly, a high-frequency sound that felt like it was trying to tear his eardrums apart and drown out the ticking of the wall clock. His focus blurred, fixed only on the snow-white lab sheet in Dr. Iris’s hand, yet it felt as heavy as concrete ready to crush him.

"Sixth... week?" Noah’s voice came out as a hoarse whisper, barely audible. His throat suddenly went as dry as a desert.

Dr. Iris Vale adjusted her glasses, her gentle but sharp eyes watching Noah with an empathy that only made him feel more exposed. "Yes, son. From the physical exam and the blood test, the results are absolute. You aren't sick from a virus or simple exhaustion. Your body is just reacting to a massive hormonal shift."

Noah tried to take a breath, but his lungs seemed to reject the oxygen. Insane. This was absolutely insane. He had just managed to escape the most lethal mafia syndicate in the country, crossing borders with a fake identity he’d created with trembling hands, and now the universe had decided to play the sickest joke in history on him.

"I... I mean, this is impossible," Noah stammered. He tried to find a logical loophole, a bug in the medical system. "Maybe the equipment is broken? Or the blood samples got switched? Doc, I just got into some major trouble; I don't have time for jokes like this."

Iris sighed softly. She rose from her swivel chair and approached Noah, placing a warm hand on his shoulder, which was as stiff as a stone. "I’ve been a doctor for twenty years in Havenport, Noah. I know the difference between malnutrition and pregnancy. You fainted in that bakery because your blood sugar plummeted, which is expected for someone in your condition who hasn't eaten properly in twenty-four hours."

Noah turned his face away, staring at the ivory-painted clinic walls that were peeling in several corners. The memory of that night hit him like a tanker truck. The scent of Matteo’s expensive, masculine cologne, the dominant grip of his hands, and how the man looked at him as if Noah were the only thing of value in this rotten world. That passion hadn't just been an escape; it was a trap now locked inside his womb.

Dammit. Matteo De Luca really had managed to leave his mark, even after Noah had erased every digital trace of himself from the face of the earth.

"Who’s the father?" Iris asked gently. "Is he the reason you had to run to this small town without a clear identity?"

The question made Noah flinch. His hacker instincts immediately flashed red. Danger. He couldn't trust anyone. If the name 'De Luca' ever left his mouth, or even if he gave an indication he was running from a powerful man, Havenport would no longer be a safe haven.

"There is no father," Noah replied quickly, his voice now a bit firmer despite his hands still shaking under the thin hospital blanket. "That guy... he’s dead. There's no point talking about it."

Iris fell silent for a moment, her eyes searching for any lies on Noah’s pale face. As a doctor in a coastal town that often served as a refuge for troubled souls, she knew when to stop asking. "Okay. I won't push. But you need to know one thing, Noah. In your current condition, stress is your primary enemy. If you keep panicking and not eating, you aren't just torturing yourself, but that fetus as well."

"I want to leave," Noah said suddenly. He began to pull back the covers, trying to get off the exam bed even though his head still felt like it had been hit by a sledgehammer.

"Wait, you’re still very weak—"

"I have to go, Doc. Thanks for everything, but I can't stay here long." Noah stood up; his legs felt like jelly, but he forced himself to stand straight. He fumbled in his jacket pocket, making sure the rest of his cash was still there.

Iris held him back by grabbing his arm, her movement firm but not rough. "Listen, I don't know what you’re facing, but it’s safe here. I won't report your... suspicious identity to the police. But at least, take this."

The doctor took a small plastic bag containing prenatal vitamins and a still-sealed home pregnancy test. "Check again tomorrow morning if you still don't believe me. And please, eat something nutritious. The bakery downstairs has a grain soup that’s good for your stomach."

Noah accepted the bag with stiff movements. "Thanks. And... please, don't tell anyone I'm here. Anyone."

"Patient confidentiality is my priority," Iris answered with a solemn tone of promise.

Noah rushed out of the clinic, passing through a narrow hallway that smelled of disinfectant. The humid, salty Havenport evening air greeted him as he stepped onto the sidewalk. The sun was nearly set, leaving a reddish-orange hue that reminded Noah of the color of the cognac Matteo often drank in his office.

Noah’s mind spun violently. How could he possibly raise a child while on the run? What if the child had the same eyes as Matteo? Those cold, powerful eyes? It would be a permanent reminder of the man he wanted to forget. Noah felt nauseous again—this time not from hormones, but from pure fear.

He walked back to his rented room above the bakery, locking the door with the three manual locks he’d installed himself, then slid down against the door. The room was dark, lit only by the streetlights filtering through the gaps in the old curtains.

Noah tore open the seal of the pregnancy test Iris had given him. He needed a second confirmation. He needed physical proof he could see with his own eyes, not just the words of a stranger or rows of numbers on a lab sheet.

Five minutes later, in the cramped, dim bathroom, Noah stared at the small device in his hand. Two red lines. Clear. Bold. Not a shred of doubt.

"Shit... it’s real," he cursed softly, the tears he’d been holding back finally spilling over. He gripped the edge of the cracked porcelain sink, bowing his head until his forehead touched the blurred mirror.

Inside there, inside his thin, emotionally scarred body, something was growing. A 'legacy' from the most feared Don. If Matteo knew, the man wouldn't let Noah go. Matteo would lock him in a golden cage, claim the child as De Luca property, and Noah would become nothing more than an incubator for their bloody throne's successor.

Or worse, if Matteo’s enemies found out... this child would be a target before even taking its first breath in the world.

Noah stroked his still-flat stomach with his cold palm. An instinct he had never felt before—something stronger than fear, more primitive than the will to survive—began to crawl in his chest. It was the protective instinct.

"I won't let you find out, Matteo," Noah whispered into the darkness. His voice no longer trembled. It was cold and fueled by resolve, as sharp as the lines of code he typically typed to dismantle an opponent’s security system.

He would remain a ghost. He would build a wall stronger than any firewall he had ever created. He would raise this child alone, even in the darkest corner of the world, as long as Matteo De Luca’s bloodstained hands could never reach them.

Noah grabbed a lighter from the wooden table beside his bed. He set fire to the lab results from the clinic, watching the flames devour the paper until it turned to ash in the ashtray. There could be no evidence. No trace.

As the fire died out, Noah stared out the window toward the harbor, which was beginning to disappear into the night mist. He knew his escape had just become a thousand times more dangerous. He wasn't just carrying forbidden data anymore; he was carrying the future of the De Luca family. And he swore, by the life now pulsing inside him, that he would never let Matteo touch his child, even if he had to burn the whole world down to ensure it.

The explosion that rocked the base of the penthouse wasn't a death knell; it was a wake-up call. The floorboards beneath Noah’s feet groaned like a wounded animal as the structural integrity of the De Luca skyscraper groaned under the impact of remote charges. The building was hemorrhaging, and according to the cascading data red-lining on Noah’s screen, they were officially offline. "The main lobby’s gone," Noah muttered, his fingers blurring over the tactile feedback keyboard he’d pulled from a spare housing. "They triggered a secondary support collapse in the subterranean garage. Enzo is trying to bring the whole structure down to bury us alive."Matteo didn't blink. He was still standing over Leo, who had retreated to the bunker's back corner with an efficiency that made Noah’s heart ache. The Don was re-loading his sidearm, the sharp metallic click of the magazine seating itself providing the only beat in their grim rhythm. "He’s desperate. That’s a mistake. If he wanted to kill

The monitors in the command center flickered, a frantic pulse of green against the darkened room. Noah’s eyes traced the flow of data—a torrential river of information—but his brain felt like it was fracturing. Every time he successfully suppressed a Riccardi probe, two more sprang up like the heads of a digital hydra."They aren't just hitting the banks now," Noah snapped, his voice tight. His fingers moved with a rhythmic desperation, striking keys so hard the desk vibrated. "They’re going after the secondary grid, Matteo. They’re trying to lock down our private transport lanes. If they get control of the freight signatures, they can divert your shipments halfway across the world before you realize they're gone."Matteo leaned over Noah’s shoulder, the heat of his presence feeling like a heavy wool blanket in the cooled room. He tapped the glass display. "Cut them off. Don't fight the signals—collapse the path. If they’re using the logistics ports as an entry point, shut the port do

The command center was a cavernous expanse of cold steel, blue light, and the hum of a thousand servers. Noah sat at the main terminal, his fingers hovering over a laser-etched keyboard, while Matteo paced the platform behind him like a panther gauging the strength of its enclosure. "The Riccardi firewalls are evolving," Noah announced, his voice raspy. "They’re using an adaptive algorithm, a self-learning code. It's aggressive, Matteo. They aren't just trying to extract money; they're trying to mirror our transaction structure to ghost the syndicate.""Stop them," Matteo replied, his tone chillingly level. He stopped pacing, his gaze fixed on Leo, who was sitting in the corner with Luca, of all people. The enforcer was showing the five-year-old how to disassemble a deactivated tactical flashlight. It was an image that made Noah’s skin crawl—the heir of a software prodigy and a mafia kingpin being trained in the logistics of hardware and lethality."Leo, stop fiddling with the hardw

The scent of expensive coffee and stale gunpowder hung in the air of the De Luca penthouse like an unwanted houseguest. Noah stared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror—pale, dark-eyed, and looking like a ghost in the gleaming, obsidian tiles. Every inch of his body hummed with the phantom ache of the night before, a reminder that the cage wasn't just physical; it was carved into his skin by the man who owned the keys.A sharp, impatient rap on the heavy mahogany door echoed through the suite. "Thirty minutes, Noah. Don't make me come in there." Luca Marino’s voice was clipped, lacking the lethal warmth of his employer, but filled with enough threat to stop anyone’s heart.Noah groaned, splashing cold water over his face. He threw on a silk-lined charcoal sweater that had been provided in his wardrobe, fitting far too well to be accidental. It was a brand he had never heard of, soft enough to feel like an insult against his desperate need for armor. He walked into the living area

The sterile, monochromatic interior of the De Luca penthouse did nothing to dampen the oppressive weight that descended on Noah the moment the doors hissed shut behind him. He clutched Leo’s hand so tightly his knuckles turned white, but Leo, having witnessed the grim efficiency of the De Luca enforcers, remained unnervingly silent. He walked with a poised, rhythmic step that mimicked his father’s, though it was unclear which father he was imitating."Get them cleaned up and keep the boy in the secondary suite," Matteo ordered without looking back, his voice an absolute decree that cut through the recycled air. Luca Marino bowed his head, already beckoning a housekeeper to take Leo."No!" Noah lurched forward, instinctively shielding Leo behind his legs. "He stays with me."Matteo stopped in the middle of the foyer. The sprawling marble space was accented by velvet dark-gray furniture and minimalist abstract art, but to Noah, it was just a gilded cell. Matteo pivoted on his heel, his

Noah’s fingers were shaking like crazy as he pressed the final 'Enter' on his grimy mechanical keyboard. On the monitor, a line of neon green code flickered once before finally turning into static text: MESSAGE SENT. ENCRYPTION TUNNEL CLOSED.The world around Noah seemed to slow down instantly. His breath hitched, and the smell of stale coffee on his desk suddenly became sharp and nauseating. He had just done the stupidest—or perhaps the most genius—thing in his life: he had given his GPS coordinates to Matteo De Luca. The Devil he had been dodging for five years."Leo, listen to Daddy," Noah whispered, his voice hoarse. He turned to the five-year-old boy who was still blinking sleepily beside him. "We’re playing hide and seek, okay? But this time it’s hardcore level. You have to hide in the 'Secret Place' and don’t come out, don’t make a sound, until Daddy himself opens the door. Understand?"Leo, who had grey eyes exactly like the man Noah had just messaged, could only nod slowly. H
