"I would like to thank everyone for coming to this event. Eleven years ago, my wife and I, as you all know, lost our only son together with his family. But today is a special day for us to introduce to you the one that keeps us strong, the one why we were still fighting up to this day. Let’s all welcome our one and only granddaughter, Jacyn Lou.”

The audience looked up at the stairs with expectant eyes. They were all eager to know who was the granddaughter that Grandfather Hou Lou was referring to. After all, no one had heard about her since the incident that happened eleven years ago. Naturally, people were so adamant to know her and introduce themselves in order to gain something. She was the only heir of the Lou group and she will have massive inheritance. The mothers wanted to introduce their sons to her in order to have connections and step up the ladder. In fact, people who attended this party were not here to sympathize or really celebrate with them, they all had their own personal intentions.

The music stopped and the spot light was on the edge of the stairs. One, two, three seconds but no one appeared. People looked at each other and started gossiping. Maybe the granddaughter was too shy to appear, maybe she was ugly and so on and so forth.

Uncle Wang Lou smiled to himself. Maybe there’s really no granddaughter at all. He heard that the couple was talking about this granddaughter a few months ago but he never saw one. Every time he visited the old couple, he was hoping to see her in hopes to gain her trust. He was the acting president and CEO of the Lou Group, but he didn't yet get the full trust of the old master. This old master, though his old age remained the Chairman of the Board and still had the full authority. He heard that today, the heiress will be named and introduced to the public. He and his wife, together with their daughter, Winnie Lou, attended the event, hoping that he will be named the heir. But to his dismay, a non-existent granddaughter was introduced instead of him.

The spot light was suddenly turned off. The darkness silenced everyone as a clicking sound of a footstep can be heard from a distance. There were slow and calculated steps, making everyone hold their breath in anticipation. Slowly, the spotlight was turned on focusing on a pair of sexy feet in red stilettos. People gasped as the spotlight slowly showed her body. She was wearing a red dress which was perfectly cut to accentuate her small waist and showcased her long legs. The dress exposed her snow white skin. People were in awe upon seeing her face finally. She was so beautiful and people couldn’t stop looking at her. She was wearing a charming but arrogant smile. The lady in red slowly descended from the stairs as people were admiring her. She was like a queen and the people were her subordinates. The men were all fascinated by her beauty while the ladies were envious of the attention she was getting.

Finally, she made it to where her grandparents were. She smiled at them genuinely and hugged the pair so tight as if she was afraid to lose them. Both of them were teary eyed, looking at the fine woman in front of them. They felt that all the years they’ve spent apart were already enough. They were lucky enough that even though they were apart, it made their granddaughter strong and be a wonderful woman.

“Everyone, our granddaughter, Jacyn Lou," her grandfather introduced her once again as he gave her the microphone for her to speak.

“Thank you everyone for coming today. I am Jacyn Lou and I hope for wonderful cooperation with you all. Please enjoy the rest of the night.” Her message was short and concise but her delivery was powerful enough to make people respect her.

People continued partying, eating and socializing with their kind. The mothers were all looking for a chance to introduce their sons to her but to no avail. Her grandparents introduced her personally to a few people who were close to them. But as soon as the introduction was finished, she disappeared.

Uncle Wang Lou was not given a chance to be introduced to her. As he was busy looking for a chance to look nice in front of her, she disappeared from his line of sight. He was so angry that he cursed himself. If only the company was already given to him a long time ago, then this newly found niece will not get on his way to the inheritance. He was so afraid that she would take over his position soon. There’s no way he will give her a chance.

On the other hand, Winnie Lou was seething in anger. Her father told him that today he will be named the only heir of the Lou Group of Companies. She was so happy that she invited her fiance, Marco Liang, to come along. What she didn’t expect was to see Marco’s “friend” to be named as the only granddaughter. She saw how Marco looked at that woman a while ago. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. She saw how he openly admired the other woman. And it made her go crazy with jealousy. No, she will not give her a chance to steal her fiance away.

“Achoo…” Jacyn suddenly sneezed. “ Was somebody thinking bad about me?” she thought to herself. She went her way to the garden, admiring the night view before her. As she found parties annoying, she wanted peace and calm surroundings. She looked at the sky, the stars shining above as if telling her that everything will be alright. “Mom, Dad… I’m back. I will not let your death be in vain. I will look for them. I will make them pay for what they have done to our family. I will not show mercy to anyone who has done evil things towards us. This time, I will not disappoint you.” She wiped the tears in her eyes and spread her hands looking up at the sky, she looked a little sad. “From now on, I, Jacyn Lou, will make you proud. I miss you Mom and Dad..”

  • The Forgotten CEO   71. The Logistics of a Craving

The executive floor of the Lee Group was notorious for its brutal climate control. Designed to keep data servers pristine and three-piece-suited executives from breaking a sweat, the air conditioning hummed at a relentless, icy frequency.Jacyn sat at her desk, her fingers flying across her keyboard as she finalized the psychological profile for Director Song. She was completely in her element, her eyes sharp and focused. But unconsciously, she rubbed her bare arms against the chill, letting out a tiny, barely audible sigh as her stomach gave a quiet rumble.I should have grabbed that strawberry matcha pastry from the bakery downstairs, she thought idly, eyes never leaving the screen.Jawn Ng, sitting three feet away behind his privacy screen, didn't look up. But his ears, trained to detect the slightest variance in the executive floor's audio landscape, captured the sigh. He clicked a button on his internal communicator, his face a mask of solemn duty.Three minutes later, the froste

  • The Forgotten CEO   70. A Fracture in the Foundation

The morning sun over City B was sharp, cutting through the tinted floor-to-ceiling glass of the Lee Group executive floor with a deceptive, cold brilliance. To anyone looking from the outside, it was just another Tuesday. The stock tickers hummed, the scent of fresh espresso drifted from the breakroom, and the junior secretaries moved with their usual, terrified precision. But for Liam, the world had fundamentally shifted the night before. He sat behind his massive mahogany desk, his posture rigid, staring at the financial monitors. Across the screens, the Lou Group’s proprietary indicators were bleeding a subtle, creeping shade of red. The emergency injunctions he had ordered Uncle Chen to execute through their legal proxies had struck at midnight. By 4:00 AM, three of Wang Lou’s largest offshore dummy corporations had been flagged for predatory compliance audits. By 7:00 AM, his personal credit lines had been quietly suspended pending a "system security review."Wang Lou’s financial

Slowly, Jacyn pulled back just enough to look up into his face, her thumb lightly brushing the back of his hand. "You hold me like you're trying to shield me from a storm, Liam, but the storm is inside you. What did that message say?"Liam looked down into her clear, trusting eyes. She had sharpened her claws over the last three months, memorized corporate law, and prepared herself to face her uncle Wang Lou in the boardroom. She thought she was fighting a greedy relative for a corporate throne. She didn't know she was walking into a room with a murderer who had partnered with the very syndicate they were trying to uncover. He couldn't tell her. Not yet. If she discovered the horrific truth right now, the raw trauma would break her focus right before the final battle. He needed her to stand proud and unshakeable at that board meeting."It's just a final update from our legal proxies regarding the Lou Group's upcoming annual election," Liam lied smoothly, his voice effortlessly masking

Three days after Xueqin Yan’s quiet departure from the country, the Lee Group headquarters was slowly returning to its usual, clockwork rhythm. The glass-and-steel monolith always ran on a strict diet of high-stakes negotiations, frantic typing, and the intimidating hum of corporate authority.Jacyn was back at her desk, stubbornly refusing to take any more sick leave and was currently finding her own way to cope with the lingering stress of her recovered memories. Perched right beside her mechanical keyboard was a small porcelain bowl of purple grapes. Every few minutes, she would toss one high into the air, tilt her head back, and attempt to catch it in her mouth.Thud. Another missed grape rolled across her desk.Jawn pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a heavy, long-suffering sigh. "Miss Lou," he whispered sharply, keeping his voice low so the other secretaries wouldn't overhear. "You are currently sitting in the nerve center of a multibillion-dollar empire. Eat them norma

The aftermath of the gala was quiet, heavy, and drenched in a dull, lingering pain that seemed to seep directly out of the villa's walls.Liam had carried Jacyn out of the hotel through a private exit, ignoring the flashing cameras of the press. He hadn't spoken a single word during the entire drive back to Lee Villa. His focus had been entirely on her—on the way her small hands wouldn't stop shaking, and how she clung to his jacket as if the fabric were the only thing keeping her anchored to the earth.Once they were upstairs, he didn't leave her side for a single second. He didn't change out of his clothes. He simply discarded his heavy tuxedo jacket, rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt, and sat in the armchair beside her bed. For hours, through the dead of night and into the gray dawn, he watched her fitful sleep. Every time she whimpered or flinched from the fading echoes of those phantom gunshots, his grip on her hand would tighten, silently reminding her subconscious that h

The atmosphere inside the mahogany‑lined walls of Liam’s private study was suffocating. While Jacyn slept soundly upstairs, exhausted from the emotional whiplash of her fragmented memories, Liam stood by the floor‑to‑ceiling window, a burner phone pressed to his ear.For a moment, he didn’t speak. His gaze lingered on the faint glow of her bedroom window above, the fragile peace he had fought to protect. Only when the line clicked alive did his voice drop into its cold, commanding register.“Speak.”On the other end, his head investigator, Uncle Chen, spoke in low, hurried tones. “Young Master, we managed to track down the retired forensic accountant who handled the Lou family’s estate liquidation after the accident eleven years ago. He confirmed what you suspected. The white van that chased her parents car was funded through a shell company registered in the offshore accounts of the Lou Group’s rival at the time—the old Han Syndicate.”A cold, lethal fury bloomed in Liam’s chest. His
