Chapter 2 Bleeding

Author: Litchi Froot
Her account showed Jonathan going on a trip to see the aurora borealis with her. There was even a day where he rented a whole island to celebrate their anniversary. They laughed together in places I could not even afford to dream of visiting.

It felt as if something had wrapped around my throat, tightening little by little, squeezing the air from my lungs.

Late that night, the door creaked open. Jonathan walked in and frowned. "Why's it so cold in here?"

Although the neighborhood was in the city center, the apartment itself was old, and the heating barely worked. The tenants had moved away because they could not stand the cold. I had only stayed because the landlord promised to waive six months of rent.

The door was ajar. I said nothing. Only a sigh escaped me, turning into a faint white mist in the freezing air.

Jonathan went into the bedroom and came back with a blanket. Then he wrapped it around me. "This is how you take care of yourself while I'm not around? How do you expect me not to worry, Linda?"

I shoved him away. "Don't act like you care! Is lying to me your idea of fun?"

Ever since the pregnancy, my body had become slow and heavy. I staggered before finally steadying myself.

In the past, whenever I threw a tantrum, he would give me a helpless smile and raise both hands in surrender. "Sorry I got you mad, Linda. You can do anything to me."

But now the look on his face was icy. "How much longer are you going to be a child?" A pause later, he added, "Natalie's young. She can't handle a lot of stuff herself."

My emotions exploded. "That's your excuse for being her boyfriend? What about me? Why did you pretend to be poor in front of me? Do I look rich to you?"

Pain flickered briefly in his eyes. Then he hugged me tightly from behind. "Calm down, Linda!"

I tried to tear myself away, but my strength wasn't enough. "Don't touch me!"

Something creaked. The door, which had been left ajar, slowly swung open. Natalie appeared seemingly out of nowhere, and she stared at us in disbelief. "You…"

"Natalie? What are you doing here?" Then realization struck him, and his face darkened. Coldly, he said, "Why did you come?"

Natalie's face was covered in tears. "You installed a GPS in your phone so I could find you anytime. What do you mean what am I doing here? You want me to turn a blind eye to the fact you hooked up with this old woman?"

She shoved me. "I trusted you, and you seduced my boyfriend?"

I nearly fell. Jonathan quickly caught me, then shot Natalie a sharp glare. "Stop!"

That only broke her further. "You liar! You said you'd marry me!" Then she turned and ran out in tears.

Jonathan immediately wanted to chase after her, but I grabbed his hand. "There's something I want to tell you."

He shook me off. "Let go! She might run into danger running around this late at night!"

He ran off without looking back. I lost my balance and crashed to the floor. My abdomen struck the corner of the table.

A sharp, twisting pain surged through me. Then a terrible warmth spread beneath me. I reached down with trembling fingers. When I lifted my hand, my mind went blank.

It was blood.

The pain made my thoughts slow and scattered. Without thinking, I called Jonathan. "Help… My stomach… It hurts…"

Right before my consciousness faded completely, I heard Jonathan's impatient voice on the other end. "You're at home. You're in no danger. I just managed to calm Natalie down, so stop making trouble."

"What are you talking about? What child?" Jonathan stood there in stunned disbelief."Of course you wouldn't know. Back then, you were too busy comforting Natalie, telling me to stop making a scene. I called and begged you to save me, to save our baby. "But you chose Natalie instead. Jonathan, how do you have the nerve to ask for my forgiveness?"Seeing the shock on his face gave me a strange sense of satisfaction."I… I didn't know. I'm sorry, Linda. I really didn't know."But even if he had known, what would it have changed?Deep down, Jonathan had always looked down on me. Even if we had truly had a child together, would he really have told me who he was and taken me back to the Mueller family?Or would things have turned out even worse? Would he have kept pretending to be poor and let me live my whole life as a fool?Looking at his pale face, I spoke each word with absolute clarity. "Jonathan, you destroyed every hope I ever had. You killed our child. You drove my mother t

The moment I saw Jonathan standing in Zach's front yard, I froze. After all, I had never told him my hometown's exact address. At most, I had mentioned the name of the state. The fact that he had managed to find me spoke volumes about how much time and effort he had put into tracking me down. The second he saw me, his eyes lit up. "Linda, I finally found you."He rushed toward me, reaching to pull me into his arms. But before he could, someone stepped in front of him.Zach moved protectively in front of me. "This is my house. You need to leave."A flash of alarm crossed Jonathan's face, his gaze quickly turning into a cold glare. "Who are you? Linda's my girlfriend. What gives you the right to interfere?"I let out a mocking laugh. "Jonathan, there hasn't been an 'us' for a long time."The fact that I was willing to speak to him seemed to encourage him."No, Linda. It's not what you think. I never loved Natalie. Everything I did was for you."Under my scornful gaze, Jonathan

Jonathan seemed to have lost his mind. As if, by refusing to admit it, I would not be the person found in that ward. As if we would still have a chance at a future together if he denied it.Natalie could not believe he was treating her this way because of me. Something deeper than fury flickered in her eyes, but she feigned innocence. "I'm sorry. I won't say that again."The assistant hurried to smooth things over. "Sir, we should wait for the police to conclude investigations. Perhaps Ms. Linda is fine."Jonathan slowly regained a trace of sanity. He let go of Natalie. But deep down, his heart was already telling him the answer he feared most.He clutched his chest, and something painful stabbed through him. Then he fainted. When Jonathan woke up again, he was already back at the Mueller family estate.Philip Mueller, Jonathan's grandfather, let out a cold snort. "You made a fool of yourself for a woman. Natalie used his black card and spent as much as she wanted. For some reason, Jonathan's heart felt uneasy, as if something precious had slipped out of his grasp.Natalie was oblivious to this change. She kept holding clothes before her body. "Which one do you think is better, Jonathan?"Jonathan was troubled, and he gave the clothes a cursory glance. He was about to voice his opinion, but Natalie muttered to herself, "I'll just get both. I'll throw them away if I don't wear them. You'll get new ones for me anyway, right?"Though Natalie swore she would be self-sufficient, she kept spending Jonathan's money like it was nothing. He used not to care about that.
