Ethan Blackwood is the third son of Alpha Liam and Luna Angel. In a family of seven, he’s the only one who hasn’t found his mate besides his underage sister. His oldest brother became the pack’s Alpha, his second oldest brother is their company’s CEO, and Ethan is currently in school to become the CFO. The human university was not exciting and fun like he was hoping, finding it difficult to hide who he is and bored with the females who only wanted casual relationships. Ethan is past ready to find his mate and settle down. Sophia Hart is a human who was abruptly introduced to the werewolf world when she started dating a man she thought was human. It didn’t take long for him to bring her to his ‘pack’ and then refuse to let her leave. His aggressive, violent ways terrified her, and she tried to leave, but he refused to let her go. One night, in the middle of a big party, Sophia finds her opening and escapes, running as fast as she can. When Ethan and the other Guardians realize that humans are being taken into werewolf packs as slaves and omegas against their will, they will have to make a stand, to fight as they always do for those who cannot fight for themselves. Ethan doesn’t care that his mate is a human. He trusts the Moon Goddess to give him the mate that is meant to be his. But Sophia doesn’t want to live around the violent werewolves. She just wants to be left alone. Can Ethan convince her that he’s not like other wolves while keeping her safe from the one who is hunting her?

Chapter One: The Night She Ran

Sophia Pov

Run.

The word echoed through my mind as I tore through the forest. Branches clawed at my arms. Thorns ripped through my dress. Sharp rocks cut into the soles of my feet, but I didn't stop. I couldn't. If they caught me tonight, I would never escape again. My lungs burned as I pushed myself harder.

Behind me, voices echoed through the darkness. "Find her!"

"Spread out!"

"She can't have gone far!"

Fear shot through me. They were getting closer. I stumbled over a tree root and crashed to the ground with a painful cry. Dirt covered my hands as I scrambled back to my feet.

No. No, no, no. I couldn't let this be the end. Not after everything. Not after finally finding a way out. Tears blurred my vision as I forced my exhausted legs to keep moving.

The moon hung high above the forest, illuminating the path ahead. For two years, I had dreamed of this moment. Two years.

Seven hundred and thirty days of fear.

Seven hundred and thirty days of lies.

Seven hundred and thirty days trapped inside a nightmare. And it had all started because of a man named Damien. At first, he had seemed perfect. Handsome. Charming. Attentive. Everything a woman could want.

I had met him during my second year of college. He brought me flowers. Remembered my favorite coffee order. Made me laugh when I was having bad days. He had made me feel special. Safe.

Loved. God, I had been such a fool. The truth revealed itself three months after we started dating.

One night, Damien brought me to what he claimed was a family gathering. A large estate hidden deep within the mountains.

The moment I arrived, I knew something was wrong. People stared at me strangely.

Some looked sympathetic. Others looked amused. Almost as if they knew something I didn't.

That night, my entire world changed. I discovered werewolves existed. Real werewolves. Not stories. Not myths. Not legends. Monsters hiding among humans.

Damien wasn't human. His family wasn't human. The hundreds of people living on that estate weren't human. And once they brought me there, they refused to let me leave.

At first, Damien promised it was temporary. Then he claimed it was for my protection. Then he stopped pretending altogether. The loving boyfriend disappeared. The real Damien emerged.

Controlling. Cruel. Violent. Possessive.

Every time I tried to leave, he found a reason to stop me. Every time I argued, he punished me. Every time I cried, he laughed. I became a prisoner. A possession. Something he owned. A human living among wolves.

The worst part? Nobody helped. Nobody cared. They all watched. They all knew. And they all allowed it. Another shout echoed behind me.

My heart nearly stopped. They were close.

Far too close. I pushed through a cluster of bushes and entered a small clearing. For a brief moment, I allowed myself to breathe.

Then I remembered why I was running.

Earlier that evening, Damien had thrown a party. Dozens of neighboring packs had gathered inside the estate. Music. Drinks.

Laughter. A celebration. I had spent most of the evening pretending to be invisible.

Until I overheard a conversation that changed everything.

I had been carrying drinks down the hallway when Damien's voice drifted from his office. I froze. Another man was speaking.

"What are you going to do with the human?"

Human. That was me.

Damien laughed. "I've grown tired of her."

My stomach dropped. The other man chuckled. "Then sell her."

Sell her. As if I were property. As if I weren't a person.

Damien remained silent for a moment. Then he said something that still made me sick. "Maybe."

The room erupted with laughter. My entire body froze.

"I know an Alpha willing to pay well for a healthy human female," the other man said. "Especially one that young."

More laughter. I couldn't breathe. Couldn't think. Couldn't move. For two years I had prayed Damien would change. Prayed there was still something good inside him.

That conversation destroyed those hopes.

I wasn't his girlfriend. I wasn't even his prisoner anymore. I was merchandise. Something to be traded. Bought. Sold. Used.

The moment the party became crowded, I made my move. I slipped through a side entrance. Jumped the fence. And ran. Now they were hunting me.

A howl shattered the silence. My blood turned to ice. Werewolves. Not men. Not guards. Wolves. The sound was terrifying.

Powerful. Predatory. Hungry.

The howl was answered by another. Then another. Then another. They were shifting.

My pulse exploded.

They were using their wolves now. I was running out of time. The trees began thinning. A road appeared ahead. Hope surged through me. Civilization. People.

Help.

I burst from the tree line and nearly collapsed. Headlights suddenly illuminated the darkness. A vehicle approached from the opposite direction. My heart leaped. A car. A real car.

I stumbled onto the road. The vehicle immediately screeched to a stop. For one terrifying second, I wondered if it belonged to Damien.

Then the driver's door opened. A man stepped out. Tall. Broad shoulders. Dark hair. Powerful build. He looked younger than Damien. Maybe mid-twenties.

Even from a distance, something about him felt different. Strong. Steady. Dangerous. But not cruel. His eyes locked onto mine.

The moment they did, the world seemed to stop. Confusion flashed across his face. Then shock. Then complete disbelief. The stranger inhaled sharply. His entire body went rigid. As though he had just seen a ghost.

I didn't understand why. I didn't care. All I knew was that wolves were coming.

"Please," I whispered.

My legs finally gave out. I collapsed onto the pavement.

The stranger moved instantly. He caught me before I hit the ground. Strong arms wrapped around me.

For the first time in two years, I felt safe.

Then a savage growl echoed from the forest. Not one growl. Several.

The stranger's expression darkened. A dangerous look entered his eyes. The kind of look that promised violence. The kind of look that promised protection. The kind of look that belonged to a predator.

And for the first time that night, I saw genuine fear appear on the faces of the wolves emerging from the trees.

The stranger stared directly at them.

His jaw tightened. A low growl rumbled from his chest. One word left his lips.

"My mate."

And suddenly, every wolf in the clearing froze.
