Three days had passed since Sophia decided to end her marriage. And during those three days, she had not felt any relief. She thought that once she made her decision, everything would become easier. She thought that once she accepted that it was over, the pain would lessen but that wasn't how it worked.

Because no matter how painful the truth was, she still loved Adrian and that was the biggest problem. She didn't need to learn how to forget him. She needed to learn how to let him go while she still loved him. She was sitting in her small library on the second floor of the house.

The room was quiet, with only the soft sound of the wind coming from outside. Maybe that was better. At least the silence gave her mind a little peace.

In front of her was a blank sheet of paper. Beside it was an expensive fountain pen. A gift Adrian had given her on their second wedding anniversary. A bitter smile crossed her lips. She still couldn't believe he had done all of this.

Back then, Adrian knew everything about her. Everything. Her favorite color, her favorite books and even the exact coffee she liked.

But now? He probably didn't even know her favorite food anymore. It was sad to think about. But what else could she do?

Sometimes, love alone isn't enough to keep a relationship alive. She took a slow breath. Then she began to write.

~~~
Adrian,
I don't know how to start this letter.
Maybe because I never imagined we would reach a point where I would have to write you a goodbye letter.
When I married you, I believed you would be the person I would spend the rest of my life with.
I believed that no matter how difficult life became, we could get through it as long as we were together.
I was wrong. Not because I didn't love you. But because it turns out I was the only one still fighting for us.
~~~

Sophia stopped writing. Her vision was slowly becoming blurry not because she didn't know what to write next. But because every word she put on the paper felt like a knife slowly cutting into her heart.

Still, she continued.

~~~
I don't know when you stopped loving me. I don't know when I stopped being enough for you.  You know, for a long time, I blamed myself. I thought maybe if I were prettier, more understanding, maybe if I were a better wife and maybe you would have chosen me.
But now I understand.
I know I cannot control your choices. It is not my fault that you chose to break the promises we made to each other.
~~
A tear fell onto the paper. She quickly wiped it away. She didn't want the words to disappear. She didn't want to leave anything unsaid. Because this was probably the last time she would ever pour out everything in her heart.
~~~

I'm tired, Adrian. I'm tired of waiting. I'm tired of hoping. I'm tired of loving someone who stopped choosing me a long time ago. And finally, I have learned to choose myself. Not because I stopped loving you but because if I continue loving you this way, I will completely lose myself.

I hope you find happiness. I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for.

And I hope that one day, you will understand how deeply I loved you.

Goodbye.

— Sophia

~~~
For a long time, she stared at the letter. She barely moved. It felt as if a part of her had died while writing it.
Slowly, she folded the paper and placed it inside a white envelope. Then she wrote her husband's name on the front.
Adrian Gonzaga.
That evening, she ate dinner alone once again and Adrian still wasn't home. Of course, she wasn't surprised anymore and strangely, it didn't hurt as much. Or perhaps she was simply getting used to it.
A few minutes later, her phone buzzed. A message from Mia.
Her friend was probably worried about her. Ever since Mia had called her, Sophia hadn't replied much.
Mia: How are you?
A small smile appeared on Sophia's face. At least someone still cared.
Sophia: Still breathing.
Only a few seconds later, Mia replied.
Mia: And Adrian?
Sophia stared at the message for a long moment and then she slowly typed her response.
Sophia: I'm letting him go.
She didn't add anything else. She didn't need to. Mia understood exactly what those words meant.
Around eleven that night, Sophia heard Adrian arrive home. The front door opened and footsteps echoed through the house. The soft sound of keys being placed on a table followed.
Nothing seemed different. Just like every other night but everything was different now because inside her drawer was an envelope waiting to be given.
And inside that envelope was the official end of everything. Beneath the letter were the divorce papers her lawyer had prepared.
Only one thing was missing. Adrian's signature.
Just one signature and their seven-year marriage would finally come to an end.
Sophia closed her eyes tightly. As if she were praying. As if she were asking for strength because she knew the moment was coming.
Very soon.
She didn't know how Adrian would react. She didn't know if he would be angry. If he would laugh. If he would be indifferent or if he would feel nothing at all but one thing was certain.
Within the next few days, she would give him the letter. Along with the divorce papers. And after that...
There would be no going back. No second chances and no more hope. It will be over or at least, that was what Sophia believed because she had no idea that only a few days from now, an accident would change everything.
And the letter she had written as a farewell would become the beginning of a story she never expected to live.
    If someone had told Sophia before that the day would come when Adrian would almost faint in the delivery room while she was the one giving birth… She would have laughed and said it was impossible but here they were and somehow...That was exactly what was happening. Honestly, Adrian looked more stressed than she was."A-Adrian..."Sophia grabbed her stomach as another strong contraction hit. She squeezed her eyes shut and leaned against the kitchen counter, forcing herself to breathe. She had already counted to ten several times like the doctor had told her.It didn't help at all. If anything, the pain only became worse."Oh, God..." She gasped. "It hurts so much..."She was almost ready to faint herself. A loud crash suddenly echoed through the kitchen. Sophia quickly opened her eyes. She turned around and saw the glass Adrian had been holding lying on the floor in pieces.It had shattered. As for her husband, he looked paler than a ghost. Even through the pain, Sophia couldn't help
    Sometimes...Happiness comes when you stop chasing it. It comes when you're no longer looking for it. It comes when you least expect it. And whether she wanted to admit it or not, Sophia wanted to knock some sense into her younger self for not understanding that sooner.For so many years, it felt like she had spent her whole life fighting. She fought for their love. She fought for their trust. She fought for their marriage. She fought for their family.Most of all, she fought for Adrian. She had fought for him so many times that she had already lost count.Sometimes she even joked to herself that her husband had an unlimited subscription to trouble, and she could never stop fighting for him. There were days when she believed nothing good would ever come after everything they had suffered. There were nights when she cried herself to sleep, wondering if she would ever be enough.Wondering if the day would ever come when they could truly be happy together. Wondering if they would ever be
    Sophia didn't know how long she stood there, staring at Adrian. Both of them looked down at the divorce papers. The only sound she could hear was the fast beating of her own heart. Every time her eyes landed on the papers, anger rose inside her.She wanted nothing more than to burn them. The thought that everything between them could end with just one signature...She couldn't bear it. It felt like she would lose her mind. Adrian remained standing quietly in front of her. He didn't say a single word.Slowly, a small smile appeared on Sophia's lips. No.She wasn't going to let a few pieces of paper destroy their marriage. She slowly lifted the documents and shook her head."Sophia..." Adrian called softly.But she didn't let him finish. With trembling hands, she grabbed the first page. Then the second. Then the last.Before Adrian could understand what she was doing… She tore the papers in half. Adrian's eyes widened."Sophia..."But she didn't stop. Again and again. She ripped every
    Sophia couldn't answer right away. She remained standing in the middle of the living room, still holding the divorce papers. She didn't even know whether she wanted to tear them apart or keep holding on to them.A few steps away from her, Adrian stood in silence. He didn't say another word after pouring out everything that had been weighing on his heart. Neither of them spoke. Yet the silence between them was louder than any argument.It was the kind of silence no one would ever want to experience. Sophia's mind was filled with countless thoughts. She wanted to beg him. She wanted to tell him to fight for their marriage. She wanted to tell him not to let her go. She wanted him to hold her and tell her that divorce wasn't the answer to all the pain they had been through.Yes, she had been deeply hurt before and maybe she had also made mistakes. Maybe she should have fought harder for their marriage instead of giving up. Maybe it shouldn't have taken something this painful for them to f
    Adrian didn't speak right away. He remained standing near the front door, silent and motionless. It was as if he was terrified that one wrong word would completely destroy whatever was left between them.Sophia stayed on the sofa. The divorce papers were still resting on her lap. Her hands were still trembling. No matter how hard she tried to calm herself, she couldn't. It felt as though the life she had grown used to was slowly slipping through her fingers.At last, Adrian took a deep breath and gave a small nod. It looked like he was forcing himself to accept something. Like he was trying to swallow a pain that refused to go away."Have you signed them?" he asked quietly, his voice empty and lifeless.Sophia didn't answer and she only looked at him. There wasn't even the slightest smile on his face. His eyes had no warmth and no emotion but somehow, that hurt even more.She knew Adrian. And she knew that whenever he spoke like this, it meant he was desperately holding back his true
    It was already noon that day, and the entire house was silent.Sophia was sitting in the living room with a pocketbook in her hands. It was open, but she hadn't turned a single page for almost ten minutes. Her eyes stayed on the same line over and over again, unable to move forward.She couldn't focus. Her mind was restless, filled with too many thoughts that she could no longer understand.A few moments later, her phone rang.She looked at the screen, and for some reason, the sound made her heart skip a beat. She picked it up and saw that the message was from Adrian's secretary.Good afternoon, Ma'am Sophia. Sir Adrian asked me to personally deliver something to you.Sophia frowned. Deliver something? Why didn't Adrian just give it to her himself?Before she could reply, the doorbell rang. Her heartbeat became a little faster. She didn't know why, but a strange chill slowly crawled down the back of her neck.She slowly stood up and walked toward the front door. When she opened it, Ad
