LOGINTHE VOW
~TARA’S POV~ I fall on my knees, clutching my chest. My vision spins, but the truth’s clarity burns through my hazy mind. I wasn’t the maid… I shouldn’t be either. I’m Tara Jackson… Alexander’s wife. Emotions overwhelm me as I pull my knees close to my chest, hugging them as I sob. I was betrayed… and punished for a reason I didn’t know. One thing for sure, I don’t deserve this. Lea took advantage of my condition and stole my husband. She was the maid… the one I treated like family despite not knowing her origins. For me, her roots didn’t matter. I trusted and cared for her, but what did she do? As for Alexander… I couldn’t believe he hadn’t said anything. He probably laughed as he watched me suffering and humiliated by his mistress. “I didn’t even suspect a thing… Did they plan all this?” I close my eyes while shaking my head in denial. Alexander loved me… I felt it. He loved me… So, why? “Why?!” I cry, letting the tears fall freely as I empty my heart with pain that suffocates me. Thirty minutes passed. I try to pull myself together knowing that crying will not change everything that already happened. All I could do is prevent it from happening further. I can’t allow them to continue making a fool out of me. I close the safe, my once trembling hands are steady now. As the storm inside me found its purpose, I promise to reclaim what was mine. “Wait for me, Lea. I’ll be sure to pay you back more than you deserve,” I whisper, wiping the last drop of tear from my eye. Back at the servant’s quarter, I stare at my reflection in the mirror. The reflection that’s looking back at me is pale, tired, and worn from years of scrubbing floors and bowing my head. It doesn’t show, but I can tell that my heart is broken and wounded from humiliation. I press my palm against the mirror, meeting my own gaze as I hold back the tears from falling again. “You stole my life, Lea… And now, it’s time to take it back,” I whisper, my voice trembling in rage. For the first time in three years, I feel alive. There’s no longer a place for fear in my heart, because all I could think of now is revenge. I will reclaim my place and expose her lies. I will make her pay. As I turn away from the mirror, my heart feels at ease. The maid is gone… and the wife is back. ********** I said I want revenge, but it's as simple as slapping the hell out of Lea. Alexander seems to listen to her, too. So, even if I have recovered my memories, I still don't know what caused her to do this. I can’t figure out why Alexander didn’t do anything either knowing that I lost my memories. And most importantly… Was the crash really an accident? I didn’t want to get ahead of myself and assume the worst, but everything happened after the plane crash. But the plane is owned by the Jacksons, it’s unlikely to crash after getting hit by lightning, unless the plane’s made of cheap materials which is impossible. The Jackson is one of the wealthiest clans in the country. Money shouldn’t be a problem for them. “First, I need to find out why the plane crashed. But how do I do it?” I sat on my bed, thinking deep of a possible solution or anything that could help me. If only I’m getting paid for all the chores I did at this mansion. I can’t believe I’m cleaning my house and getting ordered around by someone unrelated. “Wait…” I clasp my hands together when I remembered having a separate account. “I should have some savings there. I can use it to investigate the plane crash,” I smile, relieving my weary thoughts. I need solid proof… I need to make sure Lea can’t get away the moment I confront her. And Alexander… I’ll have to observe him for now. “I’ll deal with him later,” I say, tying my hair in a ponytail. “For now, I’ll have to make sure Lea doesn’t notice. I’ll entertain her until the right time comes to reveal the truth.” “Hey, Tara. Is everything okay? You look like you’re in deep thoughts,” Eva asks while we’re having dinner together. The other staff already retired early while the two of us were left to finish our tasks. “A-Ah. It’s nothing,” I reply, smiling and taking a bite of my sandwich. There’s no good telling Eva about my worries. She might end up spreading it among the other staff. Wait… I don’t need to tell her. It’s the other way around. “Actually,” I swallow my food and take a sip of water. “Yes. Is something bothering you?” Eva, the ever-gossip loving staff alongside Sophia prompts. I smile wider after wiping my lips with a napkin. “I just remembered that you once mentioned tht you started working here three years ago. Is that the same for the other staff?” Eva looks at me strangely before nodding her head. “Well, yes. We’re all hired on the same day. I heard that the Jackson mansion needs people and scheduled an interview for all applicants. Those who passed were informed on the same day. Why do you ask, by the way?” “Oh… I see. I just thought that everyone here all started working at the same time, so maybe that’s why we don’t have any seniors. If the Master hires new staff, then it will make you their senior, Eva.” Eva’s eyes glint in excitement. “You’re right! Then I will not have to stay late at night and eat leftover dinners. I can just have the newbies do the hard tasks,” she laughs. “Kidding! Anyway, it will be nice if there will be new staff coming. The madam’s becoming more temperamental these days and it’s harder to handle her by the day.” “Hmm… Now that you mentioned the madam, didn’t you say that she used to be kind?” I continue, engaging Eva in topics she loves to talk about. She always shows her dislike toward Lea, and loves talking behind her back. She may know something that can be helpful to me. “Yeah, but that’s all a lie. You see how the madam treats us, she even loves harassing you,” Eva scoffs. “You know what, I won’t be surprised if we’re all fired altogether one day. It’s what she did three years ago. Alice told me,” Eva continues. Alice is Lea’s personal assistant. Just like Eva and everyone else, Lea hired her three years ago. She may not know much, but she’s the closest to Lea. “Just between you and me, Tara.” Eva leans forward while looking around. After securing that nobody’s listening, she whispers, “Alica said the madam is the master’s mistress. The real madam died in a plane crash three years ago.” W-What? I… died? The Adrenaline Crash~Alexander's POV~I lie perfectly still on my side of the bed, my back turned to Lea, staring into the dark.I listen to the beat of her breathing. I wait until it finally deepens and evens out, signaling that she has fallen into a restless, alcohol-induced sleep. The second I am sure she is out, I silently slide out from under the silk sheets. My bare feet make no sound against the hardwood floor as I step into the hallway. I am wearing nothing but a pair of gray sleep pants and a dark t-shirt I threw on after the shower. My hair is still wet, dripping cold water down the back of my neck. I walk straight down the hall to my study, locking the door behind me.I walk over to my desk, pull my encrypted burner phone from the locked drawer, and dial Collins Reid."Alexander," Collins answers on the first ring. He doesn't sound calm. He sounds scared and out of breath."Have you figured out what Tara is planning?" I demand, pouring myself a glass of scotch in the dar
The Loose End~Lea's POV~The bathroom door is shut, but I can hear the strong sound of the shower running.I sit on the edge of the big, special bed, looking at my nicely done nails. Alexander has been in the shower for twenty minutes. He barely spoke a word to me when he came to bed.The gap between us is getting wider, and trying to act like everything is okay is wearing me down. It's starting to drive me a little crazy.A loud buzzing noise shakes my bedside table. I jump, my heart leaping into my throat. It's the secret phone hidden in the drawer. Only one person knows this number.I pull the drawer open, snatch the phone, and accept the call."Where the hell have you been?!" I hiss, keeping my voice to a disturbed whisper, my eyes glancing toward the bathroom door. "You missed three radio checks yesterday! I have been terrified that Alexander—""Shut your mouth, you stupid, arrogant bitch."The voice on the other end stops the breath in my lungs. It's Victor. But he doesn't so
The Ghost in the Wind~Tara's POV~The burner phone vibrates under my bed at 3:17 AM.I bolt upright in the dark, my heart slamming against my ribs. I pull the phone out, the harsh backlight blinding my sleep-deprived eyes. It's Daniel."Is it done?" I whisper into the receiver, my voice shaking with tiredness and expectation. "Is he in federal custody?""Tara," Daniel says. His voice is tight, breathless, and laced with absolute panic. "He's gone."The air leaves my lungs. The dark walls of my basement cell feel like they are shrinking inward."What do you mean, he's gone?" I choke out. "James had a gun to his head!""He had a hidden blade in his boot," Daniel explains, the panic clear over the line. "When James was transferring him from the service elevator to the extraction car, Victor cut the zip-ties. He overpowered James. He got away, Tara. He ghosted into the city. I'm so sorry."A wave of pure, freezing fear washes over my entire body."Tara, listen to me," Daniel urges. "We
Daniel's Patience~Daniel's POV~I have been in love with Tara Smith since we were fifteen years old.It is a pathetic, tolerating truth. When my family moved away sophomore year, I tried to forget her. I went to college. I dated other women. I built a private investigation firm from the ground up and convinced myself that the bright, smiling girl with the hazel eyes was just a childhood crush. A ghost from a simpler time. Then, she called my office from a payphone, and my heart literally stopped beating. She was alive. She had been suffering in ways I couldn't even stomach, and she needed my help.I told myself I would just be a professional. I would hack the accounts, trace the money, and be the shield she needed to survive. I promised myself I would keep my feelings completely separate. But watching her now—brilliant, fierce, and completely consumed by a cold, reasoning need for revenge—I am hopelessly lost all over again. The problem is, she doesn't see me. Not really. She
The Missing Dog~Tara's POV~I walk down the grand staircase, the door of the bridal suite locked safely behind me with James and a bound Victor inside.I reach the marble floor of the foyer. The reception is in full swing behind doors. Before my hand can even touch the brass handle to re-enter the party, hurried footsteps echo down the corridor.Alexander is practically running toward me from the direction of his study. He isn't wearing his tuxedo jacket. His bowtie is ripped loose, hanging around his neck. His face is pale, his chest heaving, and his blue eyes are wide with pure, unfiltered terror. He expected to find my dead body. He expected to see Victor standing over me.Instead, he skids to a halt, staring at me perfectly unharmed in my gray uniform.Alexander doesn't say a word. He doesn't ask what happened. He lunges forward and crushes me against his chest. His arms wrap around me like steel bands, pulling me so tight the air leaves my lungs. He buries his face in the croo
The Confession~Tara's POV~"The last time anyone saw Victor," Alice says, her eyes narrowing into cold, deadly slits, "he was walking right behind you."I look down at the crystal glass in the sink, forcing my hands to tremble just a bit. I let my shoulders slump, dropping perfectly back into the role of the broken, foggy maid."He... he was," I stammer, my voice hesitating with fake fear. "He followed me into the hallway. He yelled at me for walking too slowly. He said I was in the way of the photographers.""And then?" Alice snaps, stepping closer."And then he told me to get out of his sight," I whisper, looking up at her with wide, terrified eyes. "He walked toward the service exit. I swear, Alice. I came straight back here. Did... did I do something wrong?"Alice stares at me, searching my face for a lie. But my disguise is flawless. I am a masterclass in submission."Useless," Alice mutters, rolling her eyes in disgust. She turns away, pulling a small radio from her belt. "Peri

The Warden and the Ghost~Tara's POV~The rules changed overnight.I am no longer allowed in the dining room. I am banned from the second floor. My entire existence has been confined to the basement, the laundry room, and the servants' corridors. Lea's paranoia has locked the house down like a max
The Cracks in the Glass~Lea's POV~I keep my breathing perfectly even, my eyes slitted just enough to see through the darkness of the master bedroom. The door clicks shut.It is nearly four in the morning. Alexander doesn't turn on the lamps. He doesn't take off his clothes. He walks slowly to th
The Breaking Point~Alexander's POV~I am losing control.I can feel it slipping through my fingers like water. Every time I see Tara in the hallway, every time I have to speak to her coldly while my chest caves in, every time Lea touches my arm while Tara is in the room....a new, twisted crack fo
