NARAYA

I didn't want to call her. I didn't want to have my best friend straining to find my bail. She barely keeps up with her mother's expenses, and being another burden wasn't something I wanted, but it has been three days already, and it doesn't seem like help would come from my family, either.

So... I resolved to plead with the head enforcer for one last phone call, when he arrived and broke the news to me.

“Anonymous bail?” My heart lurched, fingers tightening around the edge of the chair.

ROGERThe air conditioner hummed overhead. It should have been cold. Yet sweat gathered beneath my collar.I grabbed another bottle, gulped it and tossed it aside. The fifth one this morning.Contracts. Reports. Partnership proposals. They covered every inch of my desk. But none of the professionals here could map out anything worth showing to our clients.I slouched back into the chair. My hand reached for my tie and loosened it.Even Jasper had ceased to offer his advice. The day I publicly claimed Melissa as my Luna was the day he stopped standing beside me.Why wasn't she here? She was supposed to be back by now.“You are bound to get an ache if you continue like this.” Silas muttered, snapping me out of my thoughts, him twirling in the chair opposite me.I sighed, straightening. “Any news from Damon?” I asked, forcing the frustration out of my voice. He shook his head.My brows deepened. Claws clenched into my palm. “Are you sure he's getting the messages?”“Yep!” Silas announced

VEILS“Mhm… Yeah.” Betty's legs curled around a wolf. He thrust into her. “Mhm…” she bit her lip. “Just right there.”Her moans shamelessly filled the room as she urged the wolf buried deep between her thighs. It's been over two decades since Betty and I went our separate ways, but seeing her in this position stung. Every sound she made reminded me that once upon a time... those sounds belonged to me.She caught my eyes and jolted, pushing the man who looked young enough to be her son off her body.“What're you doing here, Veils?” She snarled, her hand stretching for the robe on the other side of the bed.I swallowed the lump in my throat. “I just want a minute of your time.”“The old man just ruined the mood.” The guy hissed, yanking the shirt that lay idly on the floor, bumping into my shoulder as he strode out.Betty strutted past me out of the room. “You should have called.”“I needed to speak to you in person.”She leaned back into a couch, legs crossed on the surface of the maho

NARAYA“It's about your Mother.” Dad’s voice lowered. “She told me what happened.”“And?” He picked his gaze up at me.“I know she might have pushed you. But what you did was disrespectful.”“And what exactly did she tell you I did?” I folded my arms across my chest.“You slapped her.”A bitter laugh escaped me. “Because she went too far.” My fingers dragged through my hair. “You know what, Dad? If the real reason you came here was to defend Mother, then you should try again another day. I am not ready to hear anything about her.”“What about Roger?” Dad asked quietly. “He called to say he’s unable to get to you. He misses you, Sweetheart. Please give him a chance.”My jaw locked.“A chance to do what exactly?” The words left my mouth sharper than I intended. “Give him another opportunity to destroy me?”“Naraya, that's not—”“You and Mother are very much alike, Dad,” I spat. “But do you know what I like more about Mother?”He lowered his gaze.“At least she doesn't hide her contempt

NARAYAFor some reason, Zach's words refused to depart from my heart. I held onto that fragile faith, pulling my phone out of the bag.I scrolled through my mail, searching until I found CRESCENT’S office line. I was scheduled for an interview with them today. The phone rang once. Twice. Thrice. All unanswered.“It's useless.” I muttered, tossing the phone onto the bed.“Try again.” Ava said within me.It's funny how Zach's daughter's name matched my wolf. Ava.He had loved her deeply. I could hear it in the way he spoke about her.A painful thought slipped into my mind.If only my parents had spared me even a fraction of that affection. I quickly shook my head, refusing to let the thought settle.“Call them!” Ava growled louder. “This is not the time to give up.”She's right. Besides, it was my fault I lost the first job I got.Ding ding. Ding ding.“Hi, this is CRESCENT FINANCIAL COOPERATION.” A song-like voice muttered.“Uhm… I…” I jabbed, my claws biting into my palm.“Speak!” Ava

NARAYALike some sort of ill luck, the old man who dropped me off still waited beside his car.He beamed the moment he sighted me.“Did you get the job?”I walked past him with deaf ears, making to hail another cab, my whole body trembling. Eighteen minutes. Eighteen damn minutes cost me my job.My phone rang. I swiped it green at the second ring, pressing it against my ear.“So tell me,” Zilla's voice was bright. “Did you get an office of your own?” She chuckled. “Are there staff calling you ma’am? Are you already swamped with work?”“Zilla,” I whispered.“Do you have a personal coffee machine in your space?” Her voice grew louder and more insistent.“Zilla,” I mumbled.“Hope you didn't—”“Zilla!”She paused, her voice lowering. “What's wrong? Did I call at the wrong time?”I bit my lip, trying to keep my cracked voice from slipping out. But in the end, it won.“I lost the job.”“What?”“I was late.”She chuckled. “Raya… What are you saying? I don't understand.”“RAVEN terminated my

We fucking did it.”She snatched the phone from me, her eyes racing across the screen. Her mouth slowly fell open. “Raya...” She looked up at me. “You got in.”Her voice cracked. “You actually got into RAVEN.”I stared back at her, then at my phone. Then back again. It still didn't feel real. I refreshed the email.
