LOGINThe Lycan Enforcer ~
ANNABETH'S POV~ "I can't be your mate. You're lying," I said, my voice cracking. I stumbled back toward the door, my mind racing. It can't be. I can't be. I will never accept it. "Annabeth, I know this is confusing for you. But let's not talk about it now you're still tensed. Come, sit on the bed. I'll find you something to wear, your dress is filthy." He went to his dresser, rifling through drawers. I didn't wait. I took the opportunity. I turned, threw the door open, and ran. I hit the hallway, my heart hammering rapidly. I heard him curse loudly when I reached the staircase and rushed down, missing a step toward the bottom, but the momentum only propelled me faster down. I raced to the front door, pulling it open only for it to be shut close back with full force by someone behind me. I rested my forehead on the door unwilling to turn back because I already knew it was him. He grabbed my arm. I begged him to let me go, but his grip was too strong like iron, bruising my freckled arm. He noticed my arm and quickly let go. My legs gave out, and I crumbled to the amber floor, burying my head in my arms. I wasn't a wolf. I couldn't run fast enough. I couldn't escape. There was nowhere for me to go. "Annabeth," The Enforcer whispered. He knelt on the floor next to me, his hands stroking my hair soothingly. I didn't move. He said my name again, more assertively this time. When I still didn't respond, he gathered me into his arms and brought me back upstairs. I hid my face with my hair as we passed by the other wolves who were watching us with mouth wide open. He brought me back to the room and sat me on the edge of the bed. I pushed his arms away, but he set them right back, forcing me to sit still. He knelt in front of me and began taking the dirty sandals off my feet, setting them by the nightstand. His thumb lingered on my skin, noticing a dark bruise his hand had created in the car. He looked physically pained. He gathered a pair of grey sweatpants and a large white t-shirt from the dresser and set them beside me. "Would you like a bath? It might help calm you down," he offered. I looked at him through my tears. He looked sad, genuinely sad. It was a contradiction I couldn't process. How dare he look sad, he did this to me. He led me to the bathroom as I didn't have the strength to fight anymore, a room of marble and glass with a large, soaking bathtub. He drew the water, adding oils that turned the water pink and foamy. "Do you need help?" He asked, noticing I was still visibly shaking. I shook my head no, and he nodded, leaving the room and shutting the door halfway. I stripped quickly, hiding my ruined dress and underwear, and shamelessly slid into the warm water. It felt like heaven in this cold place. I let the heat of the water soak into my bones, trying to pretend I was anywhere but here for now. I heard a knock once and the Enforcer came in, sitting on a small stool beside the tub. I flinched, curling over my knees. "Go away!" "Annabeth, please. I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to make sure you're okay." He grabbed a soft sponge, dipped it in the water, and came closer to me, "Don't touch me!" I warned angrily and glared at him hatefully. He forcefully started running the sponge down my spine. He was too strong, I couldn't fight his hands off with just one of my hand, as I covered my breasts with my other hand to prevent him from seeing all of me. He took a comb and brushed my curls aside to reach my shoulders, his touch steady and strangely gentle even with my nonstop resistance. He moved the stool so he could wash my arms, then moved to the end of the tub to scrub the dirt from my feet. I struggled to keep my body hidden from him but he seemed not to be interested in looking over that direction. He was only focused on what he was doing. Once he made sure I was clean, he massaged my scalp, washing the grime from my hair. I tried to stay rigid since I couldn't overpower him, but under his touch, I felt a treacherous wave of exhaustion. He wasn't acting like the monster who had dragged me into the SUV. He was acting like... a mate. Which made my skin crawl the more. He left the room to let me dress after leaving some clothes for me on the clothe stand. The clothes were huge on me, the sweatpants drooped over my feet and the t-shirt reached my mid thigh. I stepped out of the bathroom, stumbling like a newborn fawn. He met me at the door, immediately bending down to fold the sweatpants up so my feet were free. He stood up and scanned me. "Would you like to sleep? You must be exhausted now." I shook my head no. I didn't want to be unconscious around him. "No one will hurt you here," he promised. "It's not everyone else I'm worried about," I muttered giving him a glare. He looked crushed. "Annabeth..... I would never hurt you. Not on purpose." I held up my wrist, showing him the dark bruise he’d left earlier. It was a silent, ugly accusation. "Little one," he whispered, a low whimper escaping his chest. "I'm sorry. I didn't know how fragile you were earlier until later. I didn't mean to... I promise you." "I'm not fragile," I hissed. "You are, Annabeth," he insisted softly. "Come sleep. I won't touch you." My tired muscles eventually won the argument. I went to the side of the bed, and he reached over to pull back the covers. "Climb in." He commanded and I shook my head. "You are clearly tired, and you need some rest. Now climb in. Or do I have to force you again?" I quickly climbed in, laying on the very edge of the bed with my back turned to him. I thought this was the moment he would pounce and have his way with me but surprisingly he didn't get in. He simply pushed my hair back from my face, his fingers lingering for one last second. "I'll be in my study," he whispered. "If you need anything, just call. I would hear your voice from the next room." I didn't answer. I waited until I heard the door click shut before I let out a breath I’d been holding in. I must find a way to escape this place before it's too late. I will never accept the fact that it's over for me. ~ANNABETH’S POV The door clicked shut behind Kael, and I was left staring at the empty space where he had stood. My fingers flew to my lips before I even realized it. They were still swollen, still red and tingling from the way he’d kissed me like he was trying to brand me with his mouth and was terrified I’d disappear if he didn’t kiss me harder.Goddess, I Can't believe I attacked him like that.I pulled him down onto the bed and ground against him like I didn’t care who was listening. And he could have marked me and ended this war inside me in one bite. But he stopped. He had stopped when I didn't.I fell back onto the pillows with a shaky breath, pressing the heels of my hands to my eyes. I don't know why I felt ashamed of my actions. The room smelled like him now and My body still hummed from his touch, from the way his hands had slid into my hair like he owned it.“I’m an idiot, a big idiot.” I whispered to the ceiling. But even as I said it, I was smiling.I didn’t sleep f
ANNABETH'S POVThe footsteps didn’t stop at the door. They came straight through it.The door swung open without a knock or warning and Kael came through slowly. His face was gloomy. No sign of rage, just exhaustion. His dark hair was damp at the temples, like he’d run his hands through it too many times. His shirt was half-undone at the collar, and there was a smear of dirt across his knuckles. He stepped inside and closed the door behind him. The sound of the latch clicking making me jump a little. For a long moment he didn’t speak. He just looked at me. Like he was trying to think of what to say to me. I kept my face straight. The silence stretched until it hurt. My heartbeat speeding up by the tension that lingered. I wanted to say something. But I didn’t. Finally, he looked away from me. His jaw locked Then his eyes came back to mine, and when he spoke, his voice was low and firm.“Let’s get one thing clear.”He took a step closer. Then another. Until he was close enough that I
ANNABETH'S POVGasps rippled through the crowd when the words came out of my mouth. Some even muttered my name like it was a curse.Goddess, I didn’t know where all that bravery came from.I kept walking until I was standing in the center where they were, right between Kael and Tommy. I could feel Kael’s gaze burning into the side of my face, but I didn’t look at him. Not yet. I looked at Tommy instead. His eyes were glassy now. “Annabeth, you don't have to do....”“Shut up,” I whispered to him. Then louder, to Kael, “You don’t get to do this. You don't get to torture my friends this way.”Kael’s jaw ticked. “You don’t get to tell me what I don’t get to do in my own fortress.”“I’m not telling you,” I said. “I’m begging you.”That seemed to catch him off guard. His brows pulled together, just slightly.“You think I don’t know what they did?” I went on, my voice rising. “I know. I heard about the guards. I know people died. And I’m not saying Tommy shouldn’t pay for that. But this,” I
ANNABETH’S POVI moved forward, trying to squeeze my way to the front door so I could see clearly. My shoulder knocked into someone, but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t breathe right. My chest felt like it was caving in with every step.I held my breath all through, and once my eyes caught sight of the people that were caught, it felt like I was going to have a heart attack.Tommy. No.My breath hitched and tears pooled up in my eyes, hot and fast. He was kneeling on the cold stone with his hands bound behind him, blood smeared on the side of his jaw. His hair was messy, his shirt torn. But his back was straight. He didn’t look broken yet, He looked furious.I turned to look at Kael who already had his eyes on me. He had a distant look in his eyes and I couldn’t really guess what he was thinking at the moment. His face gave nothing away. It was Stone cold. Like he wasn’t the same man who’d brought me breakfast this morning and teased me about faking sleep. He looked away from me and focus
KAEL’S POV~The training hall still smelled like blood and sweat when I left it. I should have felt better after getting it out of my system but I didn’t. Lucien’s words followed me down the cold stone corridors.“Are you even sure she values you as much as you value her, Kael?”I told myself I didn’t care what he thought. But It was evidently getting to me.My feet moved on their own, carrying me back to the east wing. Back To her. I didn’t knock when I reached Annabeth’s door. I caught her, pretending to still be asleep while her pulse moved rapidly. She was very much awake. She lay on the bed, eyes closed, face turned toward the wall. The act was almost convincing. I chuckled under my breath and shut the door quietly behind me. “I'll just go take a quick shower. Feel free to join me instead of trying to take a sneak peek.” I murmured. No answer. I allowed her have her little fake sleep victory.First, I needed to wash this dry blood off my hands and face. The bath
KAEL’S POVI barely got a blink of sleep last night. It was impossible to sleep while she was lying this close to me. Every breath she took, every shift against the sheets, pulled me in. I lay there watching her, memorizing the way her lashes fanned across her cheeks, the way her lips parted slightly when she dreamed. Once the first light came up, I forced myself up, stretching out the tension in my shoulders. I checked in on Annabeth. She was still fast asleep, her face peaceful in a way it rarely was when she was awake. I smiled without meaning to and leaned down, pressing a kiss to her forehead. Soft. Barely there. I hoped it wouldn’t wake her. I dressed quickly in a simple grey top and sweatpants. I was free of palace duties today and planned on dealing with Lucien. The air outside was sharp with morning cold. I took a deep breath, letting the scent of damp snow clear my head. Then I caught it, Lucien's scent. Just who I was looking for. Sweat, steel, and that infur
The Lycan Enforcer ~ ~ANNABETH'S POV~He moved his hand to the buttons of his shirt, tearing them open in a haste. As he pressed his bare chest against mine, rubbing his lower body against me, the sensation was overwhelming. The heat of his skin against the thin fabric of my shirt was too much. I
The Lycan Enforcer ~~ANNABETH'S POV~The sun didn't just rise over the mountain peaks, it invaded the entire room.I woke up to a room flooded with a light so bright it felt sharp in my eyes. For a heartbeat, I forgot where I was. I reached out for the rough wool blanket of my bed in the old pack
The Lycan Enforcer ~~ANNABETH'S POV~ As the SUV door shut, a cool mountain wind whipped around the clearing, sending a fresh wave of shivers up my arms. It was so much more colder here than in the valley of Red moon park, the air felt thinner, sharper, smelling of fresh pine and something ancient
The Lycan Enforcer ~~ANNABETH'S POV~She walked towards me, her heels clicking against the floor like a countdown. She didn't just look at me, she analyzed me, her gaze lingering on the clothes on my body with a sneer of disgust and annoyance written all over her perfectly carved face."A Small. F
