The Defiance

The solid rock cracked under his fist, sending a shower of dust to the floor.

The force of it snapped something back into place inside my head. Raw, pure fear cut through the fever haze. I pulled my hand back, pressing it tightly against my chest.

What am I doing? I thought, panic cutting through the heat. He's the enemy. He called me a freak. He threw me in the cages.

I forced myself to sit up, my bruised ribs screaming in pain. I grabbed the edge of a thick, dark fur blanket that had fallen from the bed and dragged it around my shaking shoulders. I crawled backward, scraping my bare knees against the floor until my back hit the solid wood of his heavy desk.

I was trapped in a corner. And I was waking up.

Cillian slowly turned his head to look at me. His eyes were mostly silver now, cold and sharp, but the gold still bled around the edges. He took a slow, deep breath, forcing the Lycan back down into the dark.

"I made a promise," Cillian said, his voice dropping to that terrifying, flat rumble that silenced entire rooms. "When the rogues killed my mother, I swore that no Omega would ever hold power in my court again. They are weak. They are sneaky. And they bring nothing but ruin."

He stepped away from the fireplace, walking slowly toward the center of the room. His gaze shifted, looking at me like a huge problem he couldn't solve.

"My council expects me to take a Queen," Cillian went on, his boots heavy on the floorboards. "An Alpha female from a strong allied pack. Someone who can lead armies. If I walk out onto that balcony tomorrow and show a broken, scarred male Omega from a pack of traitors as my fated mate... they won't just laugh, Elian. They will challenge my right to rule. There will be a war."

My heart pounded against my ribs. "So kill me," I whispered, the words tasting like ash. "Tell them I died in the dungeons. Tell them I was nothing."

Cillian stopped. His jaw went tight. "I can't. You know I can't. The bond is set. If you die, I lose half my soul. The Lycan would tear me apart from the inside out."

He crouched down a few feet away from me. He didn't reach out to touch me, but his eyes pinned me to the floor.

"There is a way," Cillian said, his voice going quieter. "You don't have to go back to the kitchens. You don't have to freeze in the dark or scrub blood off the mats."

I tightened my grip on the fur blanket. "What way?"

"The East Tower," Cillian said softly. "It's completely cut off. Only my most trusted guards can get in. I can give you everything you never had. Warm clothes. Real food. A soft bed. You will never be beaten again. You will never have to swallow another one of those toxic pills."

It sounded like heaven. To a boy who had spent nineteen years eating scraps and sleeping in the freezing mud, it sounded like a dream come true.

"And all I have to do," I said, my voice shaking, "is be your secret."

Cillian didn't flinch. "You would be safe."

"I would be a prisoner," I fired back, the fever in my blood turning into hot, blinding rage. "A pet you keep locked in a high tower, hidden away so your precious council doesn't find out their big, scary King is mated to a piece of garbage!"

"Watch your mouth," Cillian warned, a dangerous rumble vibrating in his chest. "I am offering you a life you couldn't have dreamed of yesterday."

"You're offering me a nicer cage!" I screamed, using the desk to force myself to my feet. My legs shook so hard I could barely stand, but I refused to kneel in front of him anymore. "Thorne locked me in a cellar because he thought I was useless. You want to lock me in a tower because you're ashamed of me!"

Cillian stood up to his full, terrifying height. "I am trying to keep you alive! If they find out what you are, they will tear you apart to get to me!"

"Then let them!"

I stumbled backward, my foot hitting something hard. I looked down. The broken, jagged leg of the heavy wooden chair Cillian had smashed against the wall lay on the floor at a sharp angle.

I didn't even think. My will to survive, built up over nineteen years of pain, took over.

I dropped the fur blanket. I grabbed the broken piece of wood and lifted it fast, pressing the sharp, jagged point straight against the pulse on my own throat.

Cillian froze. All the color drained from his face.

"Elian," he said, his voice suddenly breathless. "Put that down."

"No," I gasped, my chest heaving, the air burning my lungs. I pressed the wood harder against my skin. A tiny drop of dark red blood welled up under the sharp point, running down my neck.

The smell of my own blood hit the air.

Cillian took a desperate step forward, his hands raised. "Stop. If you break the vein, I won't be able to heal you fast enough. Put it down."

"I survived the dark," I whispered, tears streaming down my face, but my hand holding the broken wood didn't move a single bit. "I survived the beatings. I survived the hunger. I survived nineteen years of swallowing poison just so men like you couldn't put a collar on me."

I looked the terrifying, monstrous Lycan King straight in his golden eyes.

"I won't be your dirty secret," I swore, my voice clear and strong and unbreakable. "I won't be your toy. Throw me back in the dungeons. Let me die in the mud. But if you try to lock me in that tower... I will finish the job right now."

The room went completely silent, except for the crackling of the fire.

Cillian stared at me. He looked at the blood on my neck. He looked at the scars covering my chest.

He looked into my eyes and saw someone who had absolutely nothing left to lose.

Slowly, Cillian lowered his hands. He dropped down onto one knee in the center of the room, bowing his head slightly, seeing a strength he had never expected to find.

"You want a war, little wolf?" Cillian whispered, a dark, dangerous promise sitting in his words. "Fine. You'll get it."

So far I'm highly infatuated! and I plan to read every word. the story line isn't just an as-per-usual rehashing of all the combined werewolf and vampire and lycan (etc) stories. You've created grit and substance and intrigue beyond the norm. thank you

  • The Lycan King’s Hidden Male Omega: MM Romance   The King doesnt know yet

[Selene’s POV]The silver mine was a tomb made of ice and solid rock, and I hated every single inch of it.There was no day or night down here. There was no sun to tell you when to wake up, and no moon to tell you when to sleep. There was only the endless, maddening sound of heavy iron pickaxes hitting the stone walls. The air was so brutally cold that it felt like swallowing glass every time I took a breath. Water dripped constantly from the jagged ceiling, falling into freezing puddles and turning into slick sheets of black ice on the floor.I gripped the wooden handle of my heavy iron pickaxe, pulled it back over my shoulder, and struck the rock wall with all the fury I had left. Sparks flew in the pitch-black tunnel. My arms were shaking violently, I was shaking with pure, unadulterated rage. I was starving. I was wearing nothing but a thin, filthy linen shift that was completely torn at the knees. The heavy iron cuffs clamped around my wrists had chafed my skin raw weeks ago. Th

"I said leave," Isolde snapped. The sultry warmth vanished from her tone, replaced by cold, sharp authority. "Stand outside the doors. Do not come back in unless I call for you."The captain clenched his jaw, but he bowed his head and backed out. The heavy doors clicked shut.I stood perfectly still in the center of the crimson rug, keeping my face entirely blank.Isolde didn't immediately walk up to me. She stayed by the fireplace, her amber eyes narrowing as she studied me like a predator circling a strange animal."The captain thinks I am foolish for bringing a stray into my private chambers," Isolde said, her voice echoing softly in the large room. She took a slow step closer, her eyes tracing the thick, silvery scars on my neck and face. "The overseer told me you are a feral rogue. A nameless beggar from the woods.""Is that what you think I am?" I asked, keeping my voice flat."No," she said, stopping a few feet away from me. Her eyes dragged up and down my armored frame. "A beg

[Kaelen’s POV]The boiling water scalded my skin, but I didn't flinch.I stood in a deep wooden tub in the center of the armory washroom, gripping a coarse bristle brush. For the first time in months, I wasn't shivering in a freezing river or scraping silver dust out of my hair with a dirty rag. I dug the rough soap into my skin, watching the water turn a murky, dark gray as the filth of the Warlord’s mines washed away. When I finally stepped onto the cold stone floor, a silent servant handed me a thick linen towel and pointed a shaking finger toward a wooden bench.A fresh set of royal guard armor waited for me. It wasn't the cheap, boiled leather the gate sentries wore. This was heavy, perfectly polished steel plated over thick black leather. I dried off and dragged it on. The familiar weight of the steel plates settled over my chest and shoulders, grounding me. I buckled a heavy iron broadsword to my waist, the leather belt pulling taut. Finally, I slid my feet into black leather b

Elian P.O.V"I am done with this room," I said. My voice wasn't loud, but everyone heard it. "Take me to our chambers."Cillian froze. The King of the North stared down at me, shock flashing across his face. A low, vibrating growl started deep in his throat, a sound he tried and failed to swallow. He just reached out and laced his thick fingers tightly through mine."The feast continues," Cillian told the silent room. His voice sounded like gravel. "But the King and Queen are leaving." I pulled him down the stone steps of the dais. My fur cloak dragged across the floor behind me. Guards slammed their fists over their hearts, bowing deeply as we passed, but I ignored them. The walk up the grand staircase felt endless. The castle corridors were freezing, yet my skin buzzed with nervous, electric energy. Cillian’s grip on my hand was like a vice. By the time the guards opened the thick wooden doors to our bedroom, my heart hammered hard against my ribs. The doors clicked shut. We were

For the next three hours, I chopped wood. I didn't talk to anyone. I just swung the axe and split the logs, building a massive pile of firewood in the snow. While I worked, I kept my eyes moving. I watched everything.I counted the guards walking the walls. I noticed they changed shifts every two hours, leaving the east wall blind for about three minutes during the swap. I saw that the iron hinges on the armory door were rusted and could easily be forced open. I memorized the layout of the place I was going to conquer.A few feet away from me, an old man was carrying a stack of split wood toward the kitchens. He slipped on a patch of black ice and fell hard on his back. The wood scattered across the snow."Get up, you lazy old dog!" a guard shouted. He walked over and kicked the old man hard in the ribs.I gripped my axe handle. The wood cracked under my fingers. I wanted to step forward and split the guard’s skull open. But I didn't move. I kept my eyes on the chopping block and swun

Kaelen P.O.VSnow hit my face hard as I stood at the edge of the trees.I looked at the gates of Oakhaven. It was my home, but it looked wrong. The last time I stood here, I was a child. I had hidden inside a wooden rain barrel and watched through a crack as the old King’s soldiers marched into the courtyard with torches. I watched them kill my father because he refused to give the King our land. I watched them kill the rest of my pack. The old King had wiped out my family and given my home to one of his loyal men. Now, red banners hung from the stone walls. They carried the crest of a snarling bear. Alpha Garrick. The man who sat on my father’s throne. The wolf in my chest wanted to run forward, break the iron gates, and tear the throats out of the guards standing watch. I forced the anger down. Killing two guards would just bring the whole castle down on my head. I needed to get inside. I needed to take the whole castle, the throne, and the people.I pulled my torn fur hood low over
