Mag-log inEmily’s POV
A crescent-shaped mark that hadn’t been there before glowed faintly on my skin, looking like a birthmark. “What in the Goddess’ name is this?” I whispered, unable to touch it. Then Adrian’s voice boomed from outside the door. “Emily! Come out here, now!” Panic shot through me. I quickly put on my clothes and wiped my face. When I opened the door, he stood there, sniffing the air. His eyes met mine, then widened in horror as if someone had hit him with a sledgehammer. “What?” he barked, stepping back. “You're my mate?!...No! That’s not fucking happening.” I stood there, numb, my brain slow to catch up. “Not happening? Are you saying the goddess made a mistake by binding us together?” “She made a terrible mistake,” a sharp voice snapped behind him. Ruth. Adrian’s mother. “My son can never be mated to you!” She marched forward, grabbed me by my clothes and dragged me toward the main building where the party was still going on. Before I could process anything, she shoved me to my knees in front of the guests. Turning to the crowd with a dramatic breath, she announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, Adrian—my son, the future Alpha of this great pack—has found his mate.” Cheers erupted, but they died instantly when she began to cry fake tears. “But… unfortunately, she cannot be my son’s mate. She's a thief.” She pointed at a screen where footage began playing. “This is how this ingrate kneeling here has been stealing from us. My son cannot be mated to a thief. Or, do you want the future Luna of this pack to be a thief who ruins our legacy?” “No!” murmurs spread through the crowd. Insults began flying. I lowered my head as shame and pain crawled up my spine. I couldn’t defend myself. Adrian’s parents’ words carried more weight than mine. No one would believe me, even if I told my side of the story. Then Adrian’s voice cut through the noise. “Hey, Emily.” His tone was filled with pure disdain. The crowd quieted. “Aren’t you supposed to shift today? Go on, show us your wolf.” The crowd roared their agreement. My stomach sank. What do I say? I hadn’t been able to shift earlier… could I really have no wolf? What did the mark on my back mean? “Are you deaf?” Adrian snapped. “Show us your wolf.” My hands trembled as I lifted my head. “I… I couldn’t shift.” Murmurs rippled through the hall, rising into a chant. “She’s cursed! She’s cursed!” In the werewolf world, not being able to shift meant being cursed by the Moon Goddess. Such a person was not guaranteed safety, protection, or rights in the pack. Next thing, bottles, leftovers began to hit me from different directions. I kept my face down. I couldn’t protest. Maybe I deserved the pain. Maybe this was punishment for not taking the money in time to save my mother. “Please have mercy! Her mother just died!” Sophie cried from somewhere in the crowd. Everything went still for a moment. “Is that true?” someone asked. I couldn’t answer. “She’s lying,” Ruth said quickly. “A thief will always lie.” Another leftover hit my shoulder. “Liar!” “She’s not lying!” Sophie sobbed. “Her mother died this evening.” Ruth faltered for a second before recovering. “Regardless, Emily is not worthy to be my son’s mate!” I lifted my head toward Adrian. His expression softened for a flicker, then he looked away. For the first time since I’d been dragged here, Adrian’s father spoke. The man who would become Alpha tomorrow. “Sorry for your loss, Emily. The pack sympathizes with you,” he said. A small relief washed over me, at least he showed some concern. He continued, “In honor of your mother, who served as my head chef for years, we will not give you severe punishment for your theft. But you will be auctioned at my coronation tomorrow. We believe in second chances. Under new ownership, you may finally be useful.” Auctioned? My throat tightened. That's a fate worse than death. Auctioning of she-wolves was considered legal in werewolf kingdoms. They called it a ‘second chance’ for useless she-wolves. But it was a lie. I would be used as a breeder by any Alpha who bid the highest. “Please… I will face any punishment you give me. Don’t auction me off,” I pleaded. “See this ingrate!” Ruth snapped. “Adrian, reject her now!” “No. No, Adrian, please. You can't reject me, I'm your mate. We're bound by the red thread of the moongoddess.” My plea fell on deaf ears. “Shut up! I don't care what the moongoddess thinks!” Adrian snapped, stepping in front of me, eyes cold. “I, Adrian Ravenwood, Alpha heir of the Moonfang Pack, reject you, Emily Harpar, as my mate.” A sharp pain slammed into me like my already broken soul had been crushed to powder. I let out a loud cry, louder than any I’d cried that day. Sophie sobbed quietly at the back. She couldn’t help, she was just an omega. And Omegas have no say in the pack. But I still felt her fate was better than mine. At least she had a wolf, even if it was weak. I had nothing. No wolf. No mate now. No place. I fit nowhere. “Guards! Lock her in the dungeon until the auction tomorrow,” Adrian’s father ordered. “Please… let me bury my mother first,” I begged as they dragged me away. “The pack will do that for you.” The father's voice trailed behind me. They hauled me into a dark, foul-smelling basement. My stomach sank. My fate was sealed. Tomorrow, I would be used as a breeder—a body for some shameless Alpha to own. I couldn’t hold back anymore. I cried until my nose was blocked. My head throbbed, and my body burned with fever. Still, I didn’t stop. Didn’t care. Memories of my mother flooded in. I wouldn’t even get to send her off properly. I clenched my fists. If I had power—true power—I would make Adrian and his parents pay. But I knew it would never happen. I was going to be sold off. I cried more. And when the first rays of light seeped into the dungeon, the clang of keys echoed in the hall. Two guards appeared at the bars. “Stand up,” one said coldly. “It’s time.” My stomach twisted violently.Lucien’s POV I knew summoning the Shadow Guards came with a price. I had always known. But I never expected the price to be losing control of them. The wolfbane coursing through my veins was spreading faster than I had calculated. Every movement burned. Every command drained more strength from my body. The more I pushed myself, the faster the poison consumed me.And I could feel it.I was running out of time.“Get every maid...” I pushed the command through the mindlink, my voice barely holding together. “Every servant still inside the palace... move them–”The connection flickered as a sharp pain tore through my skull. The wolfbane was eating away at my strength faster than I expected.“Dammit!”I rasped through clenched teeth before opening the mindlink again. “Get everyone to a safe location,” I paused, forcing myself to breathe. “Lock the doors. Do not let anyone out until I give the order.”“Yes, Your Majesty.”I closed my eyes briefly.I couldn't risk more lives. Not the serva
Emily's POV"Malric...""My King..."Voices rose all around me.Then the room fell deathly silent again.A crimson-and-blue lightning began swirling around Malric's body, wrapping him in dancing arcs of light. My breath caught. Before my eyes, the deep gash across his throat slowly sealed itself. Then the countless wounds covering the rest of his body began to disappear one after another, as though they had never existed."...That's..." Sarah gasped behind me. "...Only a Healer can do that."I couldn't look away. My entire world was Malric.Did...Did I just bring him back?Or was I witnessing a miracle? The lightning gradually faded until only a faint glow remained. His torn flesh had become flawless. Not even a scar remained. His skin looked untouched, as though he'd never been wounded at all.Then...He dragged in a harsh, ragged breath and his eyes flew open.My breath stopped. For one endless heartbeat...Nobody moved."Malric..."His name slipped from my lips like a prayer. He l
Emily's POV I squeezed my eyes shut as pain exploded through my body. It started in my bones first. Every bone cracked, every muscle tore apart before knitting itself back together.A scream ripped from my throat.No...Not a scream.A howl. When I opened my eyes again...The world had changed.Colors were brighter. Every heartbeat inside the room thundered in my ears. The scent of blood was overwhelming.I looked down at myself.White fur covered my body. My hands… no, they were paws. Long claws dug into the blood-soaked ground beneath me.I… I was a wolf.Gasps echoed around the room, their eyes fixed on mine."Crimson..." one of them breathed. "Crimson eyes…”“How is that possible?”The horror on their faces told me they hadn't expected this.Neither had I.I was just as shocked. Just as terrified."Hunt her down!" Darius roared.Almost instantly, bones cracked throughout the room as wolves shifted one after another.I moved backward on instinct, but my balance was wrong on the fo
Emily's POVIt felt like a nightmare I couldn't wake from. One moment, Malric was still on his knees before them, his body barely holding itself together, yet his eyes still carried the same defiance of the Lycan King I knew. The next...Adrian's claws sank into his throat. My breath stopped.Blood spilled.Too much blood.A scream tore through me, but the cloth stuffed inside my mouth swallowed the sound, leaving only a broken, helpless noise.I fought against the hands holding me.I pulled.I struggled.I begged with my eyes. With tears. But they didn't budge. They were too strong for my weak body.Malric's gaze found mine.Even now, covered in his own blood… he refused to look afraid. But I knew the reason he kept his eyes on me wasn't because he wasn't suffering. It was because he didn't want me to see how much pain he was in.He was still trying to protect me.Even when he was the one dying.More tears slipped down my face as my eyes silently pleaded with him not to give up.I ca
Malric’s POV My body refused to move. Not because I had surrendered. But because Adrian's claws hovered dangerously close to Emily's throat. One attempt to fight back…And my mate would pay the price.I froze. My heart shattered at the sight of her standing there, looking far too fragile in his grasp. For the first time in years, my pride meant nothing. My title meant nothing. The only thing that mattered was her.I lowered my head and obeyed.I wanted to beg.I wanted to tell Darius to release her and take me instead. I wanted to promise him anything if it meant Emily would be safe. But I couldn't.Every time I tried to speak, only blood spilled from my mouth. Not words.Whatever they had coated those needles with was no ordinary poison.I had endured countless poisons throughout my life. Some designed to weaken my wolf. Some meant to kill me slowly. But this was different. This wasn't just attacking my body.It felt like something had sealed my voice itself, preventing me from form
Lucien’s POV Fighting off the assassins who had invaded the palace seemed manageable at first. Then more of them kept pouring in.Wave after wave. Some of the palace guards, still dressed in royal uniforms, turned their weapons on us as well. That was when Sarah and Theodore finally realized everything I'd been telling them was true."Their numbers keep growing," Sarah said, blocking a strike before looking my way. "They're armed with silver bullets. We can't hold them off forever. We need another plan."Theodore fired a shot from the pistol he'd taken off one of the assassins before turning to me."I just received a mind-link from the Beta Warriors," he said. "They've infiltrated every wing of the palace. We're losing ground. What's your command, my prince?""The Shadow Guards," I reminded him grimly.Sarah ripped her claws across an attacker's chest before shoving the body aside."We'll hold them off," she said. "Get to the tomb. Now."I cut down another assassin and shook my head.
Emily’s POV “I’m not hiding anything.”Her response came too quickly.I narrowed my eyes.“Fine. Maybe you’d prefer telling the Lycan Prince instead.”I made a move like I was about to call Lucien, who was still speaking to someone at the door.Irene’s head snapped up.“No…please. I’m not hiding a
Emily’s POV Irene shook her head quickly, confusion flashing across her face.“No… I don’t know him. I’ve never seen him before.”I studied her, she didn’t look like she was lying. And if she was, then she was very good at it.Adrian chuckled.I turned to him.“Of course she doesn’t know me,” he s
Emily’s POV I staggered back, the room tilting for a few seconds. When the dizziness faded, I didn't hesitate. I picked up my phone and fled the hall. Students gasped behind me, but I didn’t look back. I grabbed the first cab I saw the moment I got outside.“Miss, you haven’t paid me!” the driver
Emily's POV.Never say it can’t happen to you until it actually does, Em.One of my mother’s advice echoed through my head as I stepped in front of Adrian, my hands trembling as I lifted them to block his path. “Adrian, please… let me explain.”“Explain what?” His tone was flat. “That you stole?
