Just when I thought I was about to die, my head was pushed down, so close that I almost hit the steering wheel, the bullet pierced through the glass and into the chair behind me.

Then I heard a gunshot, a bullet straight through the man’s head, I raised my head fully to see Alfred standing beside me.

Lord knows how happy I was to see him again, “You’re alive” I gasped.

Beck crawled into the back seat and I pushed towards the seat on my right.

“I thought I was dead too but they missed my heart by five inches” he smiled, I don’t know if that was meant to be a joke but with the way he smiled, I could tell he didn’t fear death as much as I do.

I had the family doctor Robin waiting for us back at the house, we had lost most of our men at the shootout leaving the surviving ones injured.

I stormed into my room pissed off once we got to the house, “How dare they do that at my Grandfather’s burial.

This was why I pushed for a quiet event with barely any guest, to avoid this but that big mouth man ruined it all.

I suddenly paused from pacing back and forth, realizing he was missing when the shootout started, there was no trace of him or his family anywhere.

If this is how he wants to play then I am ready for him, next time he won’t have it that easy.

After being locked up in my room for almost a day, I finally stepped out in the night, Alfred had just stepped into the house, from his evening patrol.

He froze when he saw me, “I didn’t expect to see you until tomorrow morning”

The sound of my stomach grumbling answered him instead, I had been cooked up like I was a prisoner that I barely had anything to eat.

It made him nod.

He walked into the kitchen, rummaged through the cupboard for a sign, it was Sunday which meant the groceries had finished for the week, we had to wait until Monday morning for the steward to be back and restock the house again.

“Ah” he grunts.

He seemed to have found something as he turned on the glass, it was already too late to order take-out and I wasn’t in the mood for a full-five meal course.

“Perhaps I can fix you something” he said taking off his shirt, I could see blood stains on his shirt.

“You are bleeding” I informed him, he looked down at his stained shirt then let out a sigh.

I left him in the kitchen as I made my way to the first-aid box in the storage room.

“Come, sit” I ordered as he walked towards me.

I took the scissors and cut off the work he had so carelessly done, I could see why he was bleeding, this was the work of someone who was in a haste.

He didn’t head the instructions of the doctor.

“Is it always going to be like this?” I asked but he was quiet, maybe he didn’t understand what I meant.

“Will you always be risking your life for me” All my life in the US, I never needed anyone to protect me because nobody knew who I was. I was safe to walk on the streets but also smart enough to check my surroundings at each given time.

“That’s what I was paid for” he replied.

He had saved my life twice which made me feel responsible for him, I felt like I owed him my life.

“It must have been good money for you to risk your life each time” I added raising my head to me, he looked at me with sadness in his eyes, the kind I had never seen.

“Do you have a family?”

“No” he shook his head.

“Not even siblings”

“No”

I paused, I could understand if he was taking his job diligently because he needed to feed his family but that wasn’t the case.

He lets out a fake smile, we have been together enough to know that he wasn’t a man of many words and that his lips curled up when he smiled fully and not downwards. “You don’t need to feel bad for me, it would have sad if they had abandoned me willingly but they didn’t”

“And that brings you joy” I inquired.

“It’s better than knowing they were alive and didn’t want me. They died in a accident and I was the only one who survived”

Getting to know Alfred, I realized that we had more things in common, our parents both died in a ghastly accident and we were the only survivor, and also we were the only child.

“I guess you can say that”

I don’t want to bore him with the misfortune of my family, I am certain he knew about that, it must have been one of the things he investigated before accepting the job.

I was done with patching him as I arranged the box and cleaned the things I had used. “Grandfather really picked a good one”

“And I promise to do my best”

“You are already doing that” I answered with a smile.

The smell of something burning caught my attention, “the noodles” I reminded him. He rushed towards the pot, opened it and then lowered his head.

Turning off the gas, he grabbed it and turned towards me, the noodles were already burnt and black. I could barely see anything.

We had been so occupied by our conversation that we completely forgot about it.

“Well” he murmured.

I began laughing before he could think of words to say, perhaps this was just what I needed to let myself loose after my second near death experience, I laughed so hard that I fell off the chair, he couldn’t help but laugh with me.

I woke to a set of eyes on me, a possessive kind, with not even a blink. Alfred had placed a chair by my bed, his hands between his legs, holding the chair like it was too little for him, I could see his vein streaking out of his arm while he devoured me with his eyes. It felt so intense that I thought I might have done something wrong. “Good morning” I rubbed my eyes, his eyes followed me so intensely as I sat up. I wanted to ask how I got back home but I knew he brought me home, I don’t just remember the details of what happened. Then I felt a sharp pain in my head, like my head was about to fall off my neck, it was so painful that I held my head in my palm. “How much did I drink?” I questioned my actions, regretting it already. I raised my head to him, running my fingers through my hair, noticing that he hadn’t responded to my greeting. His facial expression had changed to anger, I could tell from how tight his jaw knitted together. I remember bits of what ha

I don’t feel like going home after the ordeal I had with the Gretes family, I had some steam to cool off. “Benny” I called the driver. “Yes ma’am” “What clubs are the best here?” I could see Alfred staring at me from the rear mirror, I ignored his stare as I fiddled through my phone. “Club kite” Benny recommended. “Let’s go there, you can clock out when we get there” he nodded his head. When we got to the club, it was as unique as he had said, It had twin entrance with a long line for each. “How do I get in?” “Give me a minute” Benny answered and stepped out of the car, he walked towards the bouncer in the front and gave him handshake, the man gave him two cards. Then he walked back to us, I can assume he gave him money for our passes. “These are the vip cards” he gave them to me and Alfred, I could hear Alfred grunt but he took the card anyways. Benny drove to the back giving us a better entrance. We walked in through the back door, the loud music began ec

It’s noon of the next day, weekend to be precise. We arrived at the Gretes Mansion, smaller than our estate but big enough to see how powerful they were. We walked past five guards on our way in, until we finally got to the house. Mr Gretes was seated in the front, two of his sons were seared on the right while one of them stood behind, leaning on the wall. Gretes has five children, Three boys and two girls. Yet there wasn’t a sign of a female in the room except my presence. I found him seated high and mighty in his chair, a displeased look on his face, the moment he saw me. “Mr Gretes, it’s nice to finally meet you” I greeted, he just let out a grunt and gestured for me to sit. I could feel the disrespect but ignored it, when you are new to the world, you always have to prove yourself, and I definitely don’t mind that. I sat on the couch to my left while Alfred stood behind me, “What brings you to my home?” He asked tapping his half lit cigarette down the glass

I woke up expecting it to bright outside but it was still dark, I picked up my watch to see that it was past 9pm. I already knew how I winded up in bed after dozing off in the car, Alfred carried me. The smell of food filtered into my room, immediately my stomach began to grumble. I stepped out of my room and towards the kitchen where I found him. He had on grey sweatpants and a brown fitted top, clinging to his muscles. His arms bulged as he flipped over the frying pan, the fire from the gas flares. I know he had always looked good but this was a different kind of good, the kind that makes you want to strip him just to see what he has to offer. I leaned against the door watching him, my lips dry as I try to swallow what’s left of my tongue. I could feel the room getting hot, not just from the heat of his cooking but from… you know what I mean. Concentrate Liliac, I warned myself. “What are you making?” I picked an apple from the basket and threw my ass over the c

“You should watch the way you speak to me Mr Wyatt” I boldly faced him, I had enough of him acting like he was on top of me. For the sake of family I hadn’t thrown him out of the meeting but he keeps pushing for it. He wouldn’t even be considered as family if Grandfather was seated here today. “You must be crazy to think that I would let you do that, our family has a long tradition of donating for charity” he expelled my words to remind me of family. Family! “Our family, last I remember you were disowned, you no longer bear the family name. What right do you have to say our family?” I asked him. His mouth was sealed, he hadn’t expected me to air his personal matters in front of the board but since he chose to disrespect repeatedly, it was my duty to put him in his place. The meeting had turned into a full blown fight between me and my uncle, eyes widened at us. Neither of us wanted to submit to the other. I had every right because I was the heir and he claims to have

It was my first day at the office since I came back, I had been putting it off or days but it had finally caught up with me. I knew the perks of running a company, I have a Bsc in Business management but I still couldn’t shake off the nervousness I was feeling. I am a beautiful white gown that stops at my knee, I had combed my hair to the back while I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I stepped down the stairs until I got to the door, I found Alfred standing by the car. His eyes sparkled once he saw me, “You…look beautiful” he said. “Thank you” I replied. Since he hadn’t fully healed, I hired a driver that would be taking me to work until Alfred was okay, he may have insisted to drive me but I didn’t want to pressure him with that. We finally arrived at the office, it was just as big as the estate but with three more floors, the staffs had all gathered by the lobby to greet their new CEO. “Welcome ma’am” a woman in her mid thirties, wearing a brown shirt and black
