“Vera Nightsahde! You got selected for the Luna Survival Games for this year, and you will represent our Shadow Vale Pack. It is really an honour for our pack to take part in the royal games,” Luna Candice announced proudly, and I sneered with disdain. Her lips twitched for a second, but she quickly fixed her happy luna mask before anyone could notice.
“The car will take you to the Royal Palace, and here is your invitation,” She handed me that invitation, which was really unique. It was made of royal blue velvet and a golden color. I accepted the notification without a word and headed towards the car. They gave me a few pieces of clothing and shoes with some other necessities because now, I was representing their pack. I was nothing for them from the start. I was just an abandoned pup who got accepted into this pack due to Luna Candice’s generosity. I have to serve this pack for over 12 years to pay back their generosity, but they thought it wasn’t enough, so they are sending me to a death arena named Luna Survival Games.
I don’t know much about them, but I have heard about it a lot. It is the deadliest game in the history of werewolves. Where almost 15 to 20 Lunas from different packs take part to fight for the Luna Queen position. They have to pass several rounds of tests to prove their capability, and in the end, only three survivors got the prize. The first one got the Luna Queen position, and the second and third ones got high-power positions in the werewolf council, so they think all the bloodshed is worth the power. Rumors said all the contestants who got eliminated never came back because elimination means death in these games.
I felt a shudder of fear run down my spine after thinking about all this. I never wanted to take part in all these games, nor did I want to become the Luna Queen, because, unlike all the others, I have no hunger for power and money like them. All I want from the start is to have a small family with which I can live a happy life, but this simple goal became an ultimate luxury for a Hybrid outcast like me.
A few tears rolled down my cheeks, and I quickly wiped them away. No one cares about my tears here and now; I have to fight with all my might just to stay alive. Huh! Life isn’t fair at all. I sobbed hard a few times, but the driver didn’t dare to turn his face to check on me. I couldn’t even run away from here because they had already cuffed my ankles and wrists with silver cuffs. Well! I guess they knew about my plans of running away from this damn*d pack, that’s why they did this. Bloody f*ckers!!!
“No need to waste your energy on crying, Little girl. The world always rewards the predators, not the prey. So, either learn to be a predator, or you will become prey without any effort,” The driver added his two pennies, and I scoffed him under my breath before closing my eyes.
I was so stressed about the games that I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night, so I drifted into a deep slumber after a few minutes. Well! I can enjoy the last few moments of my peace before entering the Royal Palace.
***********
“We are here, Vera! Wake up!” I jolted awake after hearing the driver’s voice and took a deep breath when I saw the Royal Palace gates from afar. His voice scared the sh*t out of me. I put my hand on my heart to calm it down a bit.
“Thanks for waking me up like this,” I said in a dry tone.
“You are welcome,” His answer was also stiff. Two big golden brown gates opened, and I saw the magnificent palace in front of me. Several groups of guards were present in front of me, and my mouth dropped open after witnessing the protocols of the palace.
“Close your mouth, or you will catch a fly,” the driver taunted after opening the door of my side. He quickly uncuffed me, and I rubbed my wrists, which turned red with silver. But due to my fae blood, I wasn’t much affected by silver, but it still hurt like a b*tch. I stepped out of the car, and he was already collecting my luggage.
“Here is your luggage. Now you have to continue your journey on your own. You will show your invitation letter on the main door on the left side, and they will give you every detail, okay?” He asked, and I gave him a curt nod, and he patted my head with a fatherly smile.
“Don’t worry, Vera. You are stronger than you thought, and you came here to fulfill your destiny, not to just play this game but to win it.” For the time, I saw his face with a sincere look. I thought he wanted to pull my leg with all this, but he was all serious with a no-nonsense look etched on his face.
“But everyone hates me and avoids me like I am cursed. How can I win this game against all the best candidates from different packs?” I asked him in a serious tone.
“Because you have something they didn’t,” He answered with sincerity.
“What?”
“Hybrid blood in your veins. They didn’t hate you because you are different. They avoid you and hate you because you are more powerful than them. You can easily challenge an alpha with your power and strip off his title, that’s why,” He answered and turned on his heels to leave. I was still wrapping my head around his words when our car disappeared in the road ahead.
After a few more minutes, I finally moved from my place and headed towards the door. I showed them my invitation, and they handed me a small box with a booklet and opened the door for me.
“Line up and charge,” I heard a deep, authoritative voice of a man, and I turned to see his face, but as soon as I noticed his face, my face paled with fear, and my hands started trembling.
(Vera POV)“Vera! Can I talk to you for a second?” I turned to look at the girl who was looking at me with a pale face and helpless eyes. I wanted to say no to her, but couldn’t. I took a deep breath and nodded my head in yes. “Sure! What is it?” I answered, and she showed me a tattoo. “I belong to the Vega tribe of the northern pack, and we specialize in plant toxins and other things.” I furrowed my brow in confusion after hearing her words. “Can you please come to the point?” I looked towards our building. Something about her felt unsettling to me, so I wanted to end this conversation as soon as possible. “I-i… I didn’t know who to tell, but Prince Kael… he tried to m-mis-mistreat me,” She hiccuped, and my eyes widened in shock. “What? What are you talking about?” My body went rigid after hearing her words, and I wasn’t in the position to ignore her words and her tears. “Calm down first, please! Wa-water,” She hiccuped, and I turned to fetch water for her when something shar
(Vera POV)I quickly entered the training hall where Rafael had invited me, and my mouth hung open when I saw the amazing gym spread in front of me. I didn’t expect it to be well-equipped with modern equipment, but I guess he wasn’t only bragging about the training; he genuinely wanted to train me. As far as I know, all the gyms were exclusive to the royal members. Maybe, He made an exception for me. “Do you like it, My lady?” He entered with grace, and his lean build took me aback. He was looking totally different from his usual self because he wasn’t dressed in a royal outfit at the moment. He was in gym wear and looking like a heartthrob at the moment. “Don’t look at me like that, or else you will fall in love with me.” I laughed after hearing his words. “You are looking good, Young Prince. But let’s talk about the training,” I answered, and he sighed like I genuinely hurt his feelings. “Sure, sure! Have you received the first challenge?” He asked, and I nodded before tellin
(Unknown POV)“Rafael! What were you talking about?” Kael asked him, and his cheerful smile changed into a sinister one in a single second. “Why? Are you getting jealous, Big Brother?” Rafael taunted, and he clenched his fists in anger. “Don’t… Don’t mess with her, Rafael. Stay away from her or else… It will not be good for you.” He warned, and Rafael’s dark chuckle echoed in the garden. “Soooo… My big brother is getting possessive of someone, right?” Kael didn’t answer his question, but clearly understood the intent behind his words. “Don’t let me catch you with her again, or else… You have to bear the consequences of your actions, Rafe,” Kael said and left the garden while Rafael was seething in anger. He decided to help Vera at any cost, and no one could stop him, not even Prince Kael. ***“So, I have to start my practice with Prince Rafael, and he will teach me about all the tactics, but why?” Vera asked her reflection, and my eyes changed color for a second, and then I s
(Vera POV)He quickly dodged my attack, but I didn’t stop. I quickly punched him, and he blocked my punch skillfully. My rage blinded me, so I kept throwing punches at him again and again until all my rage subsided, and I fell to my knees. I was panting from exerting all my energy when someone showed up in front of me. I looked at his face, and he gave me his signature dimpled smile. “You were fierce… Lord knows what you wanted to do with this charming boy! My gosh! I didn’t expect you to show off your strength like that.” I accepted his hand, and he pulled me up. I laughed after hearing his dramatic response. “You blocked my attacks successfully, Prince Rafael. And judging by your quick response, I can easily tell that you are a well-trained prince, so stop feigning timidity,” I shot back. “Oh my! That’s so harsh, my lady. I was just defending myself. I didn’t know that you would take that ‘Hecate’ compliment this seriously. Pardon my ignorance,” He stepped back and bo
(Vera POV)“What the hell! Why does this palace have so many rooms?” I mumbled under my breath while trying to find the hall where our welcome dinner was arranged. I wasted almost 20 minutes wandering through the halls and rooms in search of that perfect hall. F*ck! I wanted to save my face by arriving there on time, but my fate decided to play with me this time. “Please, Goddess! Please let it be this one.” I pushed open the last door of the hallway, and my jaw dropped to the floor when I realized it was someone’s personal room. “Who the hell dares to open a prince’s room?” I was about to apologize when I noticed a tribal tattoo on his glistening chest, which made me stop. It seemed oddly familiar, and it was a grave mistake. “Oh, so you are here to seduce a prince, right?” He asked and gave me a dimpled smile. “I am sorry, but I opened the wrong door… By mistake,” I added begrudgingly, and he laughed after hearing my apology. “You are probably searching the hall for a welcome
(Vera POV)I tried to move, but it seemed like I had turned into a statue, with all the memories that came rushing back into my mind. “Roll and roll, bat and ball’If we kick Vera’s head, it will roll on the floor like a ball.”All the kids started singing, and my eyes welled up with tears. I looked towards the three boys, who made it their life’s mission to turn my life into a living hell. “Weepy weepy kid, Creepy creepy kid,” They started singing, and I ran towards the back garden of school. It was my favourite spot to cry my heart out. They started pushing me around and stealing my things since the moment the Trio of Rian, Lucien, and Kael announced me as their enemy. I was 7 years old when they started targeting me and announcing me as their enemy, and it continued for almost 8 years. I hated my life for all these years and started punishing myself for being different, even though I had nothing to do with it. Later on, their bullying turned worse, and I used to pray to the Moo
(Vera POV)"It has to be a joke, right? How can The Moon Goddess pair us with something like... her... We didn't deserve a cow in the name of mate for f*ck sake," Lucien threw his hands in the air while Rian was looking at me like he was feeling disgusted with this bond. All the hope and happi
