LOGINNICHOLAS
I glanced at Ashley as she managed to get that baby to shut up. I could feel my driver staring at us through the rearview mirror. He knew better than to say anything. I remember nothing of the night that baby's mother was talking about. I would never sleep with a girl without protection. I was definitely not the father, even though she had most of my features. Looks could be deceiving. I wasn’t her father. I couldn't wait to get to the hospital and get the test over with. And to return her back to whoever her mother was. The driver pulled up in the car park of the hospital. Ashley was about to get down, but I held her hand back. She froze, and her eyes looked down where our hands touched. I cleared my throat. I retracted my hand. "He would send someone to come get us." She nodded in understanding. The paparazzi could be lurking in the shadow. The last thing I needed was a baby scandal. One I had no relationship with. Someone knocked on the door. "Unlock the doors," I told the driver. He did as instructed. My personal doctor entered the front seat. He was a few years older than me, but we were cool. His eyes scanned every person in the car before meeting mine. "Hey Nick," he finally said. "Hey. I need to conduct a DNA test. Her mother thinks she is mine." His eyes narrowed on Ashley, and she shook her head quickly. "I am not the mother." Her voice raising to an higher octave. He looked more confused after her answer. "Before you ask, I don't know who the mother is. She just dropped her off in front of my gate," I explained. "Can we just get the test over with?" "I just need a strand of your hair." He gave me a small nylon. He handed one to Ashley, too. "Okay baby, I will be needing one strand of your hair," Ashley cooed. The girl smiled at her. She's beautiful. She gently plucked one strand and put it in the nylon. She then kissed her cheek. I would have thought she was her mother if I didn't know better. I plucked one from my hair, too. We handed both nylons to him. "How long would it take?" I asked. He checked his wristwatch before replying. "Few hours. You can leave, I will email you the result." "What if I want to wait to get it? I want to be done with it once and for all." He nodded in understanding. "There’s a small coffee shop after the hospital. You can get something there. Staying here would raise suspicions." "Thanks, man," I said. He got down from the car, and the driver didn't need to be told twice. "Do you want anything?" I asked Ashley as he pulled up in front of the shop. "Coffee. Can you get Luciana any other drink and snacks? We don't know when her mom dropped her off." My eyes flickered to the kid before returning to Ashley. I nodded and stepped out from the car. The bell dinged open as I entered the shop. It's the cozy vibes to it. I adjusted my sunglass as I walked to the cashier. She gasped - my sunglasses doing nothing to hide my identity. And she had the familiar pink tint in cheeks that I was used to. Ashley doesn't blush around me. The best she had looked really embarrassed was today at the restaurant. I didn't know why I thought of it at that moment. I looked at the menu on the wall just behind the girl. They had pastries, but I wasn't sure what an one year old should have. I told the girl my order while noting the time. I still had the meeting in a few hours. I was tired. This was so surprising. Unplanned. In the back of my head, I could hear unspoken questions. 'What if she's mine?' 'What I would do if she was mine?' I didn't want to believe I could be so stupid to make such a mistake. Even in my drunk state. "You can go pick up your order from the other side." Her voice snapped me out of my trance. I handed my card as she purred at me. Either there was something wrong with my eyes, or her shirt got tighter. She was practically flashing me her asset. If it were other non-crazy nights, I would have definitely taken up her offer. Didn't mean my eyes couldn't appreciate the beauty in front of me. "Thank you..." I trailed off trying to read her name on her tag. "Lisa." She rushed out. I allowed myself to smirk and lean closer. Just enough to make her breath hitch. "I would definitely be coming back here. Hopefully, you will be the same person here." Her cheeks flushed, and I straightened up. I winked at her before strolling off to the other side. This was who I was - not a dad. I collected my order and headed out. I entered the car. The dread of what's to come clawed back at him. I took my coffee and handed the bag to Ashley. She turned to the child and beamed. The smile was beautiful. It's genuine. She whispered something into her ear before reaching into the paper bag. She pulled out the strawberry drink I got her. Before putting her in a sitting position on her lap. She put the straw in the kid's mouth, and she sucked like her life depended on it. I almost felt bad before remembering her mother's cheap tricks. What kind of a mother was that? She could have let us talk before dropping her child off. She knew the DNA test would expose her lies. And I could have sued her. I wanted to get the result before contacting my personal investigator involved. I busied myself to attending to mails on my laptop while waiting for my doctor to call back. I tuned out of Ashley's baby voice and the kid's babbling sounds. I almost jumped out of my seat in excitement when his text came in. It read: It's ready. I nodded at the driver through the rearview mirror, and he understood. He started the small drive back to the hospital. I rubbed my knuckles while anticipating what's to come. She couldn't be my child. I texted him that I was in the car park. The child stopped making sounds as if she realized this moment was important. The tension could be cut through with a knife. He took the shotgun again and handed me the envelope. I told the driver to excuse us, and he got down from the car. "There’s no match, right?" The look on his face said otherwise. "Unfortunately, it matched. The mother was telling the truth." My eyes widened. What the actual fuck? "Dada," the most angelic voice I ever heard said. I turned to the child who was looking at me with expectant eyes. I frowned at her instead. I was no father. No dad. And I was going to deny it for as long as it takes.NICHOLAS. "What did you find out?" I asked, leaning back in my seat.He mimicked my action. "The danger she speaks of isn't real."I wasn’t totally surprised. "I knew it," I started. "But why did she lie?""Her grandma did die. She's currently dating this actor. The guy posted something months ago. He cannot take care of another's man child or marry someone that has a child."It all made sense. "Her grandma died so she had to step up.""She doesn't want to tell him about the child.""That’s why she dropped the child in front of my house.""She was selfish," I mumbled. "She didn't care how that decision will affect my life."He hummed in response. She could met up with me first. We could have decided on something together. "What do you want to do, boss?"I ran a hand through my hair while thinking. "Send her message. Let her know that I know the real truth. She meets up with me and we find a solution together. Or I am going to ruin her relationship."He nodded in understanding. "I wi
NICHOLAS. We kissed. We fucking did. What do I say to her?Your lips are just as soft as imagined them to be. I don't regret kissing you but I couldn't figure out why I did that. She cleared her throat and I looked up at her.Her on my freaking laps... still straddling me. As if realizing that now, she jolted up and straight into her seat. "I_"My AI assistant interrupted whatever she's going to say. "The rain has reduced. The path is cleared. It's dark but the streets are well illuminated with street lights. The rain is predicted to start again soon. Heavier than the last. You need to start driving now."I cleared my throat before pressing the start button. The car roared to life. As I drove through the wet roads, I pondered on what to say to her. I blurred the fucking professional line between us. The kiss was amazing. The fact that she didn't pull back. Till we got home, she didn't say anything. I wished she did so I could know what was going through her head. Did she reg
ASHLEY. You do anything if I win. Those promises were reckless... dangerous. This night has been a lot. I will blame the alcohol on the dance and every word that spewed out of my mouth. The stupid dance. I still couldn't believe I danced with him like that. And now I wanted him to try out this burger. "We don't have all night," I groaned as he kept staring at it.Rich kids. I watched him bring it to his mouth and took the tiniest bite. I looked away as he chewed because I wasn't about to admit that the simple action was sexy.Like I said, it's the alcohol's fault. "So_" I trailed off. He didn't reply and took another bite. "It’s alright.""More than alright," I huffed. He shrugged. "So..."A smirk slowly curled up my lips. "You lost, boss.""You said you will do anything if I eat this," he smirked."And you will do anything if you finish it."Then he chuckled. "I haven't finished it."He took a bigger bite before tossing it into the trash bin at the corner. I gasped. "How
NICHOLAS. I extended my hand and waited for her to take it.I was going with the flow."You actually want to dance with me," she said."Even if you have two left feet," I smirked.I almost sighed in relief when she placed her hand in mine.Sparks flew through our hands and I pushed down the thoughts. I pulled her to the dance floor. We just stared at each other not wanting to take the lead.I chuckled lightly and she joined in. "Let’s actually do this."She nodded in agreement. "It’s just a dance with my boss."I gently wrapped my hands around her waist while trying not to stare down. The dress was still affecting some part of my mind."When you put it that way, it feels weird," I mumbled as her hand snaked around my neck. I glanced at Chris who's already smirking at me. I rolled my eyes at him as we continued slow dancing to the romantic song. The next song was sensual. It's supposed to be our cue to stop. But, we just kept staring at each other. "We_"She interrupted me by plac
ASHLEY. "How hard is it to get a guy to buy us drinks?" Molly groaned out."I have been the one buying them," I responded. She rolled her eyes at me and I did the same."But, this place is fire," Molly screamed over the loud music.I nodded in agreement. "Let’s go do more shots.""Woah! Easy tiger."I pouted. "It has been so long.""I love this version of you, babe."I smirked before leading the way to the bar. This place was packed. It’s difficult to walk around.Molly stopped abruptly and I turned around to face her. She showed me her phone screen and I saw Matt was calling."Get the shots," she shouted. "I will join you shortly.""No sexting," I teased She blushed hard before sauntering off. I continued the walk to the bar and was lucky to find an empty stool. A cute bartender approached me with a smile. "What can I get ya, beautiful?""Something strong," I replied with a smile."Be ready to be surprised."I nodded and watched him work his magic. He slid me a glass of a red dr
NICHOLAS. I scanned through my clothes, trying to decide on what to wear. I wanted something that screamed powerful in a subtle way. I swear it's not only girls that deal with this problem. Did the cold shower help? In a way, yes. It will only be effective if I get laid tonight. And don't see her until the Ashley Walker I was familiar with returned. I finally settled on a black Tom Ford jacket, tailored to perfection. Underneath was a white silk shirt with the top two buttons undone. I didn’t need a tie, or nnecessary accessories for my look. I chose a platinum Patek Philippe Calatrava. Quiet luxury. The kind of watch only a handful of people would recognize. Black tailored trousers completed the look, paired with matte Chelsea boots. No logos. No flashy designer prints. To complete the look, I wore an old signet ring on his right hand and hung my usual silver chain outside my shirt. Lastly, I sprayed my cologne before walking out. I found Chris easily in the living
ASHLEY. "Hey," I breathed out immediately I settled inside Molly's car.She raised an eyebrow. My cheeks were flushed.'Are you trying something, Ashley?' 'Don’t play with fire, Miss Walker.'How the tables managed to turn in just few minutes. I forgot I was dealing with certified cassanova. I w
NICHOLAS. I played with the pen between my fingers while Chris kept staring at me."What is the problem?" I asked when I couldn't ignore his eyes anymore. He leaned forward like he was waiting for me to say something. I closed the file that I was reading and gave him my attention. "You call her
ASHLEY.I listened to Nick's friend talk about a childhood story. One that had my boss giving him murderous glance across the table. "Imagine little Nick with Kat's red lipstick all over his face, Ash."Ludacris Smith. He was popular too. The media labelled them as the handsome duo. He was mor
NICHOLAS. "...the sales report for this month... SIR!"I looked up and saw my directors staring at me. "What?" I blurted."We are reviewing the sales for the month," one of them said. "I know."I ran a hand through my hair, frustrated.I couldn't concentrate. My thoughts were all over the place.
