LOGINASHLEY.
I walked out of the organization as my phone rang again. Incessant this time so I couldn't ignore it. 'What do you want this time, mom?' I said the last part with so much venom. Not like the woman deserved any good from me. 'That’s no way to greet your mom, daughter. Or should I say step-mom?' She giggled. I continued walking, needing to get to the bus stop. I had another interview for a waitresimg job. It's a plan B in case I don't get this job. I didn't reply to her, just wanting to get over with this conversation. “Money. I want money.” she finally said. “I told you that I got fired.” “Lily would suffer for it,” she said sweetly. I stopped walking and clenched my fist. "Don't you dare do anything to her,” I seethed out. She chuckled. “I want it before the end of today.” With that, she hung up on me. She was my dad's worst mistake. My actual mom died when I was a toddler. It's my dad and I until I turned eight. He met her and decided she was his second chance at love. They got married a few months after they met. I thought she was going to be my mom - my chance of experiencing a mother's love. Melissa was a cunning two-faced bitch. Acted sweetly anytime my dad was around and the opposite when he wasn't. Memory of her getting a call from the hospital played in my head. Her teary face and one year old Lily's loud wails. It's the longest drive of my life. I could remember the doctor’s actual words. "Sorry, we couldn't save him. He suffered serious injuries from the car crash.” It felt like the world came crashing down on me. Life after that wasn't normal. I was saddled with the responsibility of taking care of Lily since her mom was busy drowning herself in drugs and alcohol. She did love my dad, that's clear. But she's never a good mom to Lily. She hated her because she looked exactly like my dad. She never missed a chance to tell her that Just like me, Lily couldn't get the love of her mother. I studied hard to get a full scholarship ride to study at NYU. I couldn't leave this city because of Lily. I worked so many jobs to take care of myself. I have tried taking custody of her many times, but she's always one step ahead. Playing the role of a perfect mother anytime I send officials over. She needed my money to get high. My life truly sucked. I headed back to the bus stop and entered the available bus. I had less than an hour to get to the restaurant. I plugged in my AirPods while staring out at the bustling streets of the city that ‘never sleeps.’ Even though I had a lot of bad memories surrounding this city but I couldn't imagine myself leaving. It's a beautiful city. I straightened my dress when I reached my destination. Most of the seats were occupied. I walked around until I spotted a girl sitting behind a desk. I sauntered off to her, and she looked up at me. "Cash or card? Where's your bill?" I shook my head quickly. "I am here for the interview." She nodded in understanding while asking for my name. "Ashley Walker." She typed away on her computer before giving me the direction to the manager's office. "Thank you," I said. She smiled. I strode off in the direction and stopped in front of the office. I knocked softly on the door and waited for the usual response. I entered the office and saw a middle-aged woman sitting there. "Hello, ma'am," I said as she gestured for me to sit. "Ashley Walker?" I nodded in response. "Have you ever waited a table before?" I nodded. "I waited tables in both high school and college." "Good. You can start immediately." My eyes widened at her words. "Now? Like right now?" Her eyes narrowed at me. She definitely wasn't going to win the best boss of the year. "Yes, do you have a problem with that? We're short of staff as it is. We pay our staff weekly. You will work five days in a week," she paused while handing me a paper. "Those are the available shifts left. You can choose your five days and time you want to work there." I couldn't help the smile as I stared at the times available. If I got his personal assistant, I could do both. Most of the available shifts were in the evening, so I should be retiring for the night as his personal assistant. I took up the weekend shifts, too, so I can have two days of rest during the week. I handed the paper back to her, and she typed into her computer. She handed me another paper. It contained the rules and regulations. One was written in bold letters : CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT! I was used to bitchy customers so that wasn't going to be a problem. "Meet with the girl behind the desk outside and tell her to direct you to Rose. She would show you around and explain how things go around here. You can start your job after that." "Thank you, ma'am." "Don't make me regret this," she deadpanned. "You wouldn't." She gestured to the door and I walked to it. I stepped out and did as instructed. Rose's a bubbly personality. She showed me around and handed me my uniform. A white short sleeve shirt and blue skirt that reached inches above my knee. I was glad that it wasn't slutty or anything. Time passed in a blur. Waitressing was hard, and I was just getting used to it again. Rose was the only friend I made today. I got a few tips. I sent some money to Melissa from the little savings I had. I couldn't let anything happen to Lily. I started the long walk to our cramped apartment in the unsafest part of New York. It's the best we can find. I kept glancing over my back to be sure no one was following me. My pepper spray in one hand and my taser in the other. They always helped whenever someone tried to mob me. I took the staircase up to our apartment after greeting our landlord downstairs. Our apartment was small. It's something the landlord put together when she needed another type of income. My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I took it out after slamming the door shut. I settled on the only available sofa in our living room. It's a mail from Bianchi Inc. I bit my lips as I tapped the message. It read: We're pleased to inform you that you were chosen to be the personal assistant to the CEO. Work starts tomorrow. Report to the office at 8 am sharp. There are attached documents containing all you need to know. Congratulations, Miss Walker. Best regards, Bianchi Inc. I screamed into the pillow, and my face broke into the hugest smile. This's going to change my life for the better. I knew it. Bonus Chapter! Thanks for choosing my story. Xoxo -Aridah.NICHOLAS. "What did you find out?" I asked, leaning back in my seat.He mimicked my action. "The danger she speaks of isn't real."I wasn’t totally surprised. "I knew it," I started. "But why did she lie?""Her grandma did die. She's currently dating this actor. The guy posted something months ago. He cannot take care of another's man child or marry someone that has a child."It all made sense. "Her grandma died so she had to step up.""She doesn't want to tell him about the child.""That’s why she dropped the child in front of my house.""She was selfish," I mumbled. "She didn't care how that decision will affect my life."He hummed in response. She could met up with me first. We could have decided on something together. "What do you want to do, boss?"I ran a hand through my hair while thinking. "Send her message. Let her know that I know the real truth. She meets up with me and we find a solution together. Or I am going to ruin her relationship."He nodded in understanding. "I wi
NICHOLAS. We kissed. We fucking did. What do I say to her?Your lips are just as soft as imagined them to be. I don't regret kissing you but I couldn't figure out why I did that. She cleared her throat and I looked up at her.Her on my freaking laps... still straddling me. As if realizing that now, she jolted up and straight into her seat. "I_"My AI assistant interrupted whatever she's going to say. "The rain has reduced. The path is cleared. It's dark but the streets are well illuminated with street lights. The rain is predicted to start again soon. Heavier than the last. You need to start driving now."I cleared my throat before pressing the start button. The car roared to life. As I drove through the wet roads, I pondered on what to say to her. I blurred the fucking professional line between us. The kiss was amazing. The fact that she didn't pull back. Till we got home, she didn't say anything. I wished she did so I could know what was going through her head. Did she reg
ASHLEY. You do anything if I win. Those promises were reckless... dangerous. This night has been a lot. I will blame the alcohol on the dance and every word that spewed out of my mouth. The stupid dance. I still couldn't believe I danced with him like that. And now I wanted him to try out this burger. "We don't have all night," I groaned as he kept staring at it.Rich kids. I watched him bring it to his mouth and took the tiniest bite. I looked away as he chewed because I wasn't about to admit that the simple action was sexy.Like I said, it's the alcohol's fault. "So_" I trailed off. He didn't reply and took another bite. "It’s alright.""More than alright," I huffed. He shrugged. "So..."A smirk slowly curled up my lips. "You lost, boss.""You said you will do anything if I eat this," he smirked."And you will do anything if you finish it."Then he chuckled. "I haven't finished it."He took a bigger bite before tossing it into the trash bin at the corner. I gasped. "How
NICHOLAS. I extended my hand and waited for her to take it.I was going with the flow."You actually want to dance with me," she said."Even if you have two left feet," I smirked.I almost sighed in relief when she placed her hand in mine.Sparks flew through our hands and I pushed down the thoughts. I pulled her to the dance floor. We just stared at each other not wanting to take the lead.I chuckled lightly and she joined in. "Let’s actually do this."She nodded in agreement. "It’s just a dance with my boss."I gently wrapped my hands around her waist while trying not to stare down. The dress was still affecting some part of my mind."When you put it that way, it feels weird," I mumbled as her hand snaked around my neck. I glanced at Chris who's already smirking at me. I rolled my eyes at him as we continued slow dancing to the romantic song. The next song was sensual. It's supposed to be our cue to stop. But, we just kept staring at each other. "We_"She interrupted me by plac
ASHLEY. "How hard is it to get a guy to buy us drinks?" Molly groaned out."I have been the one buying them," I responded. She rolled her eyes at me and I did the same."But, this place is fire," Molly screamed over the loud music.I nodded in agreement. "Let’s go do more shots.""Woah! Easy tiger."I pouted. "It has been so long.""I love this version of you, babe."I smirked before leading the way to the bar. This place was packed. It’s difficult to walk around.Molly stopped abruptly and I turned around to face her. She showed me her phone screen and I saw Matt was calling."Get the shots," she shouted. "I will join you shortly.""No sexting," I teased She blushed hard before sauntering off. I continued the walk to the bar and was lucky to find an empty stool. A cute bartender approached me with a smile. "What can I get ya, beautiful?""Something strong," I replied with a smile."Be ready to be surprised."I nodded and watched him work his magic. He slid me a glass of a red dr
NICHOLAS. I scanned through my clothes, trying to decide on what to wear. I wanted something that screamed powerful in a subtle way. I swear it's not only girls that deal with this problem. Did the cold shower help? In a way, yes. It will only be effective if I get laid tonight. And don't see her until the Ashley Walker I was familiar with returned. I finally settled on a black Tom Ford jacket, tailored to perfection. Underneath was a white silk shirt with the top two buttons undone. I didn’t need a tie, or nnecessary accessories for my look. I chose a platinum Patek Philippe Calatrava. Quiet luxury. The kind of watch only a handful of people would recognize. Black tailored trousers completed the look, paired with matte Chelsea boots. No logos. No flashy designer prints. To complete the look, I wore an old signet ring on his right hand and hung my usual silver chain outside my shirt. Lastly, I sprayed my cologne before walking out. I found Chris easily in the living
After spending three hours at the beauty shop, we headed to the mall beside it.My little sister had always been pretty. But now...She was breathtaking.I smirked. "We’re really serious about getting you that boyfriend."She blushed hard as I pushed open the door to a clothing store."Let’s do the
ASHLEY.She had already taken her sauna bath before coming to get me. Don’t ask me how it took an hour.We were given pink robes and led to the hair station.Lily sat stiffly in the chair, her face blank as the stylist stood behind her.The stylist tapped her shoulder. She flinched.I understood i
ASHLEY. "Can we negotiate the beating too?" I asked shyly. She laughed. "How do you know I hit her?"I shrugged. "Because I know you."She nodded before puffing out a stream of smoke. "Do you have a thousand dollars more?"I looked down at my shoes, showing just how 'dejected' I was.She scoffed.
ASHLEY I watched him frown at her, and I almost snorted. She didn't ask to be brought into this world.I looked down at her. She looked really sad, like she understood what that single look meant. That, she just got rejected by her own father.I ran a hand through her hair, and she looked up at
