Chapter 4

Author: Anonymous
Adeline moved fast.

Within a day, my younger sister was bound and dumped in a deserted outskirts area. Around her lay piles of wood, drenched in pungent gasoline.

My sister struggled frantically, but the ropes held her tight.

Then Adeline appeared, dressed in a striking red gown.

For a brief moment, my sister's eyes lit up with recognition—then quickly shifted to terrified concern. "Adeline! What are you doing here? You have to run—it's dangerous here!"

Her first instinct was to protect Adeline.

She had no idea that the woman standing before her was no longer the sister-in-law who once doted on her, but the architect of her nightmare.

Their eyes met. Adeline pulled out a lighter and spoke, her voice flat and cold.

"Spare me the tearful act. I'll give you one chance. Tell me where Samuel is..."

My sister was sharp. The color drained from her face as the truth hit her. She'd already gotten the news about our parents that afternoon.

"Adeline... did you do that to Mom and Dad? How could you? Why?!"

Adeline let out a contemptuous laugh.

"Why? You can thank your dear brother for that. But I can see you're the type who won't believe it until you've got no choice left. Fine then. Let's see if Samuel can stand by and watch his precious little sister burn alive."

She flicked her wrist.

The lighter arced through the air and landed on the kindling.

At the same time, she pulled out her phone and went live—broadcasting what she called a "punishment execution."

Surrounded by flames, my sister screamed in despair.

"Adeline, my brother loved you so much! How could you do this to our parents?!"

But all she got in return was a cold, mocking smirk.

The fire consumed her.

I watched it all, clawing desperately at the flames like a madman—

But I was just a ghost. I couldn't do a thing.

Soon, the livestream was cut off due to graphic content. I could still hear my sister's screams echoing in my ears.

Adeline smiled—a victorious, satisfied smile.

She finally called it off.

Her men dragged my sister from the inferno. Adeline grabbed her by the chin, gripping her burnt, reddened face.

"Let's see if your heartless brother shows up now.

"But my patience is wearing thin. He'd better surface before Nicky and I tie the knot—or the three of you can reunite in the ground."

Nicky...

The wedding...

So they were getting married.

Adeline knelt before my sister, her face streaked with tears, her voice trembling with desperation. "Nellie... please, give me Samuel's remains. He loved me so much..."My sister glared down at her, unmoved. "Adeline, stop daydreaming. Samuel loved you—and what did he get in return?"He gave you his heart, and you repaid him with hatred. You murdered our parents. And now you have the nerve to crawl here and beg for forgiveness?"Adeline's face went even paler. She struggled to speak. "I was deceived...""So what? So that means we deserved to suffer for no reason? If I had any say in it, I'd wish my brother had never met you."My sister's eyes burned with fury as she watched the light slowly drain from Adeline's face.A bitter, satisfied smile curled on her lips. She pulled out the wedding announcement Adeline and Nicky had posted online and tossed it right in Adeline's face."Feels awful, doesn't it? Being betrayed by the one you love most."Take a good look at yourself, Adelin

Adeline couldn't believe it. The man she'd held in her heart for over a decade had just struck her—for another woman. She stood frozen, tears welling in her eyes."Nicky... you said you'd love me forever."Nicky let out a mocking laugh."Come on, you're not some naive little girl anymore. You actually bought that?"Adeline sank to the floor, looking up at him with dazed desperation."Nicky... what happened to my shares?"She stared at him, searching for any hint of a reasonable explanation. But Nicky just pulled the other woman closer, smug and triumphant."I did it all. I'm tired of playing pretend with you. It's exhausting.""Then what was all of this? What did your promises even mean?!" Adeline grabbed the hem of his shirt, pleading. "Nicky, I gave up everything for you! You can't do this to me—I'm your fiancee!""You were just a rich, gullible woman. There are plenty of those out there. And now? You're broke. You really think I'd still grovel at your feet? Try again in y

I watched Adeline with a bitter ache in my chest. At some point, I'd lost count of the moments I regretted my decision.Go ahead, Adeline. Dig. Find out the truth. She had just reached the parking lot and was catching her breath, about to get into her car, when a woman tapped her on the shoulder.Adeline turned, confused, and studied the woman's face—she looked vaguely familiar. Before Adeline could speak, the woman beamed and said, "You don't recognize me? I was a nurse in Dr. Samuel Newell's department! I've since quit, though."You know, Dr. Newell really loved you. He gave up his heart for you. Such a shame, really—his cancer could actually have been treated."With that, the woman's husband pulled up in their car, and she waved goodbye and left. But those few sentences had already sent Adeline's world into a tailspin. She steadied herself, her palms cold with clammy sweat, her mind churning in chaos. What did that mean...?Nicky had always told her that Samuel was doing w

A few days later, Nicky had a medical episode and was rushed to the hospital.Adeline hovered over him, tending to his every need."Adeline, my condition is getting worse," he said weakly. "Does Samuel really not want to save me?"Watching Nicky put on this pathetic act, I felt nothing but disgust.Sure, his illness was rare—and there weren't many doctors in the country who could treat it besides me. But it was never this severe. He was just putting on a show, playing up his symptoms because he'd realized Adeline still couldn't fully let go of me.And it worked. Adeline's hatred for me burned even hotter. Her voice cracked with desperation as she said, "Don't worry, I will find Samuel. I swear it."For Nicky's sake, Adeline stormed into my mother's hospital room. She yanked my mother—still in critical care—straight off the bed and onto the floor. My sister, who had been dozing nearby, jolted awake. She'd dropped out of school to work multiple part-time jobs just to cover our mo

After having my sister dumped at the hospital, Adeline returned to what used to be our home. The cozy little place where we'd spent three happy years together. My eyes landed on the wedding photo sitting on the cabinet, and I couldn't look away.I remembered every single detail of this house. Adeline and I had picked out everything together, piece by piece. The deed was in Adeline's name because she once told me she'd never had a home of her own. So I promised her—emotionally and financially—that I'd give her one.I could still see the look of surprise and joy on her face back then, as clear as if it were yesterday. Now, all I saw was coldness and hatred.Nicky was by her side this time.He looked at her and asked, "Are you still not over Samuel?"Adeline froze for a moment at his words. Then her eyes flickered with venom."Even if I can't forget him, it's only because I can't forget how he abandoned me when I was at my lowest, most desperate point. If I don't make him pay with
