KAYLA

The air in the dining room felt heavy and still. I tried to focus on my plate, pushing a piece of steak around with my fork, but my appetite was gone. Every time Corvin moved next to me, a jolt went through my body. I kept my eyes on the white cloth on the table, pretending to listen to my sister and Jordan talk. Everything sounded far away. I was only aware of him–the smell of his skin and the heat coming from his seat.

Then, I felt his hand.

It landed on my thigh with a firm weight.

  • The Tycoon's Leading Lady   50. Unsure Feelings

KAYLAThe rumor caused so much chaos for me, my family, and even my team. After Casey confirmed that she had already told the truth to Jordan, my team quickly released a statement explaining the photo before things got even worse.Thankfully, most people believed it.Corvin and I still had dinner that night. It went better than I expected. He was quieter than usual, though. I could tell the news surprised him. Maybe it even scared him a little. I wasn't really sure.I wanted to ask him what he was thinking, but I decided not to.We both needed a normal night after everything that had happened. So instead, we talked about random things, laughed over dinner, and pretended the internet wasn't trying to create another story about us.Now I was back on set, and almost everyone looked at me the moment I arrived. Some tried to hide it, while others didn't even bother. I knew exactly what they were thinking. The rumor.Even the director called me over before filming started."No more scandals

  • The Tycoon's Leading Lady   49. An Unforgettable Evening

KAYLA Corvin took me to a fancy restaurant. I'm usually very conscious whenever I go out, especially when I'm with someone who isn't Derek. Most people still don't know about our breakup, so there's always a part of me that worries about being seen. But Corvin assured me that no word about tonight would get out. Apparently, the restaurant belonged to one of his friends. He told me he was one of the investors, and the owner gladly agreed to his request to close the restaurant for the evening. That gesture alone sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach. No one had ever done something like that for me before. Derek was never the grand type when it came to surprises. He was thoughtful in his own way, but he never went all out. Corvin was different. Closing an entire restaurant just so we could have privacy and enjoy the night without interruptions felt unreal. It reminded me that maybe I shouldn't settle for the bare minimum. Because somewhere out there, there is someone willing t

  • The Tycoon's Leading Lady   48. His Thoughts

CORVINI watched her back disappear into the bathroom. For a second, I just sat there on her sofa, my hands resting on my knees, staring at the door. The silence of Kayla’s apartment felt heavy, a sharp contrast to the ringing in my ears that had been there for the last hour.I let out a breath I felt like I’d been holding since I left my office. My heart was still thumping against my ribs–not with the panic from before, but with a strange ache I couldn't quite name."Not pregnant," I whispered to the empty living room.I should have felt like I’d just dodged a bullet. I should have been jumping for joy, ready to celebrate my freedom and the fact that my life wasn't about to change. But as I leaned back into the cushions, I felt... weird. Disappointed? No, that was a crazy thought. Why would I be disappointed? My mind drifted back to how this chaos started.I had been at my office, scrolling through my feed while waiting for the time when I had to leave, when I saw the headline and a

KAYLAMy back was against the door as my tears continued to fall. This day was just too overwhelming. It was supposed to be a chill day for me, but because of one photo, everything was ruined. My mood was ruined. My career was almost ruined. At this point, I don’t know how to explain it to Corvin. I’m afraid he’s already seen it, and I’m scared of how he might react. I know I said whatever is going on between us is just for fun, but I still care about his feelings. He’s a friend now, and he’s been so considerate of me.I picked up my phone, still sitting on the floor, and dialed Casey’s number. It rang for a long time, but she didn’t answer. She must be busy. Maybe she isn’t on her phone, or maybe she hasn’t seen the article yet.I was about to dial Corvin’s number when my mom’s name flashed on the screen. I closed my eyes tightly, inhaling and exhaling to prepare myself for whatever she was about to say. When I felt ready, I answered. The first words out of her mouth were, “Are you p

  • The Tycoon's Leading Lady   46. The Rumor and The Outburst

KAYLA“What are you doing here?” I asked the moment I recovered from the shock. I wanted to ignore him and just go inside my apartment, but he was blocking my way, so I couldn’t even open the door.He looked at me, and there was something in his expression–curiosity, anger, shock… I couldn’t even distinguish it.“Are you pregnant?” he questioned, and my brows instantly knitted together.I tried walking past him, even bumping him a little in my quest to open my door. “What are you talking about?”I inserted my keys and pushed open the door, pausing before entering, contemplating whether I should invite him inside or not. Of course, I didn't want to, but I don't think we should be talking in the hallway.“People are talking about it online,” he replied.I went in anyway, and he followed.“What?!”I got my phone and turned on the Wi-Fi. The moment I did, notifications flooded in.“Oh God,” I murmured as I took my seat on the sofa.I tried to check each notification, but there were just t

  • The Tycoon's Leading Lady   45. Two Surprises

KAYLAI’ve never been this excited to get up in the morning. Even though I had a very late night on set for a photo shoot and barely got any sleep, I feel strangely energetic. I feel as refreshed as if I had just woken up from a perfect, eight-hour sleep without any interruptions. I feel as satisfied as if I had just eaten the most delicious meal in the entire world. For the first time in a long time, it feels like I don’t have a single problem to deal with. I reached over to my bedside table, grabbed my phone, and saw a message from Corvin. It was just a simple "good morning," but it was enough to make a smile spread across my face instantly. My day was already off to a great start, and that message made it even better. I have to be honest: when I first met Corvin, I was intimidated. It’s hard not to be when you’re talking to the heir of a multi-billion dollar corporation. But as I’ve spent more time with him, I’ve realized that he is so much more than just a fancy title or a big b

CORVIN“I’ve already sent all the documents and contracts that need your attention to your email, Sir,” Michelle said, her eyes flicking down to her iPad one last time to confirm. KAYLAThe camera lights finally dimmed, signaling the end of another long day on set. • The Tycoon's Leading Lady   17. A Desperate Move

CORVIN The sun hadn't even come up yet when I pulled into my reserved spot at the office the next morning. My eyes were burning from lack of sleep, and my skin felt tight, but I didn't care. I had a schedule to keep. If I stopped moving, the memory of last night–the sounds from my laptop and the a
